Every hour until the clock strikes midnight (Eastern time) and we usher in 2015, Diva Dirt will highlight – in no particular order – the women who made an impact in 2014.

Leva Bates

2014 started off with a bang for Leva Bates as she and Mia Yim, The Lucha Sisters, won a tournament in February to become the first ever SHINE Tag Team Champions, a title they would go on to defend three times before dropping them in a shock defeat to Malia Hosaka and Brandi Wine. Meanwhile, she continues to rise through the ranks in SHIMMER, and recently made her return to WSU after a lengthy hiatus to take on fellow cosplayer Brittany Blake.

And of course let’s not forget her exploits in NXT as everyone’s favourite superhero, “Ol’ Blue Pants“, coming to the Full Sail arena to no fanfare as an unnamed jobber and miraculously becoming one of the most over wrestlers on the show. A hilarious but compelling story of a woman’s determination to laugh in the face of the barriers put in her way, creating a great moment for unfamiliar fans and smug smarks alike.

I may not have any clue what her costumes are supposed to be, but 2014 has arguably been Leva Bates’ best year yet. With her return to solo action in SHINE underway (and with her best friend Mia Yim as the current champion), could 2015 be the year Leva takes her game up to that one last echelon and gets her hands on some big time singles gold?

Come back at the top of every hour to see who else has been crowned one of 2014’s Women of the Year.
