Fastlane is seen as the last part of the track heading to the golden stage at WrestleMania 33! This year’s Fastlane was a twist of events to say the least, but whether those twists were a good or bad thing are up in the air. However, before we get to my thoughts, let’s have a look with the Fastlane review!

First up was the RAW women’s division’s answer to David VS Goliath with Sasha Banks taking her grudge match against the dominant Nia Jax. Pre-match, we’re treated to a history lesson, documenting that Nia has had Sasha’s number the last two times that they’ve faced each other. So will it be third time lucky?

I know I usually rag on about Nia’s repetitive offence, but she actually cracked out some new moves here – most notably a Torture Rack. Throughout the match she works on Sasha’s back, backbreakers, twisting her back against the ropes, multiple slams and pretty much ragdolling Sasha who is probably half her size.

In a similar fashion of trying new things, Sasha’s offence throughout is a little more luchadora-esque. Literally flipping and clambering across Nia’s limbs to bust out some new moves and attempt to lock in some submissions, which looked cool for Nia to power out of. The end of the match comes as Sasha hits a Tornado-DDT and locks in the Banks Statement! However, the ever-powerful Nia manages to lift herself out of the dreaded hold. Luckily, Sasha escapes before Nia can cause damage, but she can’t dodge the blow as Nia choke slams her down! Nia drops one of her signature leg drops on Sasha’s back, but she’s not finished… she attempts to lift Sasha up for one finishing maneuver!

The lucha-Banks manages to wriggle out of what looks like a Samoan Drop attempt and rolls up Nia into a bridged pin! She attempts to grab the rope… but misses… but still gets the 3 count! Three is the magic number for Sasha as she finally topples Nia Jax and ooh, she is not happy at all!

Now onto the match for the RAW Women’s Championship between everyone’s favourite Hugger, Bayley, taking on the PPV Queen herself, Charlotte Flair!

Charlotte makes her way to the ring first, initially accompanied by her protege (and Arnold Classic competitor) Dana Brooke… but there’s no love shown here as she dismisses her to the back – Charlotte wants to do this one on her own! The crowd are super hot for the Champ as she makes her way to the ring, will she be able to finally defeat the streak?

As we have seen since their battles in NXT, Bayley and Charlotte tend to be evenly matched throughout their matches. Similar height, similar ring-based technical moves and Charlotte’s gymnastic moves tend to be equaled out by Bayley’s speedy offence. This match was much of the same. The pace of this match is much more slower in comparison to the other match, with the two women seizing each other up. For every rest-lock Charlotte applies, Bayley counters with one of her own, for every running shoulder block, the other woman is up on her feet.

The tide of the match starts to change when Charlotte nails Bayley with a shoulder block on the outside of the ring. After tossing Bayley back into the ring, most of Charlotte’s focus is on Bayley’s neck. You name it, Charlotte does it – using the ropes, the buckles and even the apron, she continues the damage. She even hits a moonsault off the top rope, follows it up with a senton and can still only get a 2 count!

After reversing an attack in the corner, Bayley starts to gain the offence. Unfortunately, they can’t seem to pull off what looks like it may have been a cool spot in the corner with Charlotte semi-hung up in the Tree of Woe for what felt like years. After regaining control of the match, Bayley manages to take Charlotte off the top rope with a hurricanrana and follows it up with an elbow drop from the top rope! But again, it’s only a two count!

We reach the near-fall stage as the match reaches its end. After Bayley kicks out of the Natural Selection, Charlotte gets desperate and tosses her out the ring from the apron. She climbs up to the top rope and it seems like she’s going for another moonsault… until Sasha Banks runs down to the ring!

However, Charlotte catches her and thrusts her into the apron and into the ring. As Sasha rolls out, it seems the distraction has proved vital for Bayley who hits Charlotte with a Bayley-to-belly on the outside! She throws Charlotte into the ring one more time, but Charlotte attempts a roll-up and tries to grab Bayleys tights! Sasha yells at the referee who sees and refuses to count, in the mix up, Bayley’s timing is perfect one more time as she hits another Bayley-to-belly for the 3 count! Bayley retains the RAW Women’s Championship and the Queen’s PPV streak is over!

The Hug’n’Boss celebrate in the ring together while Charlotte is in tears on the outside! The streak is broken, so what’s next for the Queen?

Thoughts: Oh Fastlane… what a weird night for the women. I predicted it all wrong, which technically should be a good thing, since no one likes watching anything predictable… but this just seemed like a really odd direction for the women to go in. We heard rumblings of a 4-way, but this PPV has made both the heels quite irrelevant now with them both losing to the top faces and seemingly ending their simultaneous feuds.

Let’s also talk about the match quality, which for me made me feel quite short-changed. I feel that these women have all taken the bars so high that they almost can’t have any mediocre matches anymore – especially when SmackDown are out there killing it every week. Both matches had messy endings, which made their outcomes really fall flat.

I admit, that while Sasha’s botch seemed to make Nia look weak, it’s not like we’ve not seen her pinned cleanly before. Also, it just made it awkward for the ending of Charlotte/Bayley as it seemed they were meant to do a ropebreak spot too, but then they just shouted about the tights… which no one ever cares about…

And finally let’s address the streak ending… at Fastlane… what a waste is all I can say. 17 PPVs of predictable feuds, including killing most of Sasha Banks’ credibility as a long-term Champion. And what for? A third rate PPV before the grandest stage of them all. Sure Charlotte’s streak being broken at WrestleMania was predictable, but it’s the traditional fairytale ending that we wanted to see Bayley have. It’s why people fell in love with her in NXT – so while seeing her winning the title so soon gave that mixed reaction, breaking the streak has probably done even more damage.

I guess this all goes to show the development of her character, growing from being an underdog to actually becoming a well-accomplished competitor. Whether this will work or not is something we’ll have to wait to find out. So RAW will show what direction we’re heading into going to WrestleMania… I can’t say I’m too thrilled, unless there’s a real surprise there in the form of a certain Emma!

Did you enjoy the women’s matches at Fastlane? Do you think Nia looked too weak? Are you happy the streak is over? You know what to do in the comments section!

  • Shady

    Trash.

    • limfox

      yes sis yes

    • MyleneCruz

All of it. The entire show. Only highlight was Sashas new gear which I truly liked.

    • Seraphina Rosenhart

I disagree. Ending both the feuds right now could set up Bayley vs Sasha very nicely. Plus, the matches in terms of the wrestling/in-ring ability was great.

  • Nadia

I will say this watching Sasha climb all over Nia was fun. I think breaking the streak here, in a one on one match was the right call. At Mania in the rumored Fatal 4 Way, it doesn’t matter as much. Break it, get it over with. It’s had a stranglehold on the division for over a year and now things can progress normally. Now the way it was done was interesting and it almost felt like a double turn between Charlotte/Bayley.

Well what’s done is done. They should the route that Sasha Banks is manipulative and is corrupting naive Bayley by letting her think preemptive cheating is okay and that she is helping her win out of the goodness of her heart when in reality she knows she can’t challenge Charlotte for the title anymore but she can challenge Bayley.

    • Bryskers

It’s the perfect set-up for Sasha’s heel turn. I always thought their on-screen friendship didn’t make any kind of sense storywise. Knowing Sasha’s ego, becoming friend with the one who defeated her in the first ever Women’s Iron Man Match in history and in the match considered by many as the greatest women’s match in WWE always seemed fishy to me. The Bo$$ I love would be LIVID that Bayley beat her in those historical matches.
But what if she faked it all along, for the reasons you mentioned ? What if she only made sure to help Bayley keep the title only because she can’t challenge Charlotte anymore ? Now that would be genius character development. Sasha nevers forgives, Sasha never forgets.

  • Bryskers

    What I disliked :
    – WWE pathetic attempt to make us believe Charlotte ACTUALLY needed Dana to win, by having Bayley chalenging her to come alone, when all of her title defense since Summerslam have been clean. (except COC)
    – The finish of the match, Sasha coming out when Charlotte wasn’t about to cheat did not make any sense whatsoever. It also should have been a DQ. Oh and, let’s talk how it makes Bayley look REALLY bad that she had to rely on her bestie’s help when she’s supposed to be “the better champion”. Great look for your top babyface. Such counterproductive booking is really strange and frustrating, and it’s sad to see them damage Bayley’s character like that.
    – Bayley and Sasha acting like straight-up jerks on Raw Talk. Again, not a good look.
    – The end of the Streak, I already stated why several time. It should have been a bigger deal.

    What I liked :
    – Sasha needed the win more than Nia. Nia would not have gained more credibility from that win anyways, and Sasha’s PPV curse is finally broken.
    – The quality of the title match was fine to me. I enjoyed it. The botch didn’t hurt it and I was into it from start to finish.
    – Several possibilities coming out of this PPV.
    – It’s dumb that it’s over, but at least the streak is done, so people can shut up about it :-)

    • ralfikh

Just throw sasha in there to hype the crowd maybe?

      • Bryskers

I think it’s all part of the “Bayley is not a deserving champ” narrative and the intention was really to put a cloud on Bayley’s win. The way they did it did not make sens though, as Sasha had no reasons to interfere in the first place.

    • Seraphina Rosenhart

I think Sasha coming out and interfering to help Bayley was fine, because it could set up Sasha’s heel turn. But what bothered me is that Bayley seemed completely fine with it. If Bayley had been upset that Sasha interfered without reason, then it would have made much more sense.

      • Bryskers

I’m not against the idea of Sasha helping Bayley, the execution was just strange. Maybe they could have done it a better way. Like, Bayley trapped in the figure-8 for a long time, and Sasha coming out to distract Charlotte. That way, Sasha has a reason to come out. In the match, Bayley was about to receive a Moonsault but the timing didn’t feel right. IMO at least.

But I agree with your thought about Bayley’s attitude. She’s supposed to be about integrity, and this title defense was supposed to be a way for her to prove that she could defeat Charlotte on her own, but she didn’t gave a damn about how she won. This is so out of character.

  • I was actually impressed with both matches. Nia vs. Sasha was finally a good match because Sasha actually got some offense in. Nia looked especially strong tonight too.
Idk why Charlotte’s streak ended at the PPV before Wrestlemania. Something seems off here..

  • Loved Sasha vs Nia, didn’t like Bayley vs Charlotte, and neither did the crowd.

The streak was pointless after a year and a half only for this to happen, and Bayley cheating to win, while Charlotte didn’t have anyone by her side was not good either.

  • Melina mention was the highlight for me. #5x

Well… People would have complained if Charlotte won the title back and people are complaining how that her streak ended in a useless way. Lose-lose situation.

Both matches were very underwhelming for Raw’s standards…

Sasha needs to turn heel and save the division. All women used have been booked pretty strong… Fatal 4 Way for the belt at Mania. Please! Bayley defends after pinning Charlotte. Sasha gets back in the ring to raise Bayleys hand… Pulls her inward and BAM! Clothesline! Then locks in the Banks Statement! Ultimate heel turn on her bestie at the grandest stage of them all! Then monster heel Sasha can go into a program with ultra babyface Bayley

    • wwepassion

Sasha won’t save anything when she already flopped with the rest. Bookings is the only way to save them.

WWE NEED TO USE EMMA TO SAVE THIS DIVISION

      • Mark

        No plz

  • Montel Porter

This is what happens when you have too many PPVs and have a 3 hour show(plus an extra hour for the pre show) when you have a small roster.

I don’t like having a ppv before WM and after royal rumble I understand money has to be made but I just don’t like it.I rather WWE uses that 1 month of just building up storylines and then maybe have a live special like bringing back Saturday nights main event and have just a raw and Smackdown special like they did during mania 22 season.

Like during mania 22 season at Saturday night main event they have the raw main event vs the Smackdown main event in a tag match.Or when Mickie turned on Trish at the special no title changes just extra tv time to continue storylines without hot potatoing title runs Even if they are just basic tag matches.

  • Robert Guerra

WHAT. THE. FUCK. This PPV was soooooooo trash like even for RAW’s standards, everything and everyone from start to finish seemd off, who is booking this shit?? Monkeys??

I really think after last night the whole RAW women’s division is damaged, and all because they wanted to do all the big things right on the start just for the sake of making history and now everything is disconnected, even Charlotte character who was the most solid of the division is starting to get hurt on this mess.

It’s great that there are a lot of possibilities from now on but this trash booking will probably ruin it all, so I’m not excited at all, they should really fire the whole creative team and hire a new one with young people who watch the product and know what is need to be done, and also kill Vince McMahon.

    Favorite part of last night:

    • Gail-Rollins Fan

You know it was a bad PPV when the Cruiserweights had the best showing of the whole night. I’m calling it now Austin Aries & Neville will be this Wrestlemania’s “Charlotte, Sasha, & Becky”.

      • Miguel Orona Rodríguez

That Cruiserweights match was amazing. Then Roman vs Braun was good too. Bayley & Charlotte failed to delivery intensity and there was that botch, still it was a decent encounter. It also moved foward that feud. You guys look for the most irrelevant things to destroy people. Bayley, Charlotte, Sasha, Becky, Mickie, Natalya, Nikki, Alexa, Naomi, Foxy, Emma, Summer, Paige, Asuka & others are good wrestlers. The problem is not the talent, is the creative team.

    • Seraphina Rosenhart

I disagree. Ending both the feuds right now could set up Bayley vs Sasha very nicely. Plus, the matches in terms of the wrestling/in-ring ability was great, although that tree of woe botch was terrible.

    • ThePaigeturner

This spot annoyed the crap out of me. Not because it was one long botch but because Bayley didn’t even try to cover it up she just looked really mad.

  • Cathy Kelley.

Emma, Summer, idk anyone, just save us and this division!

  • ralfikh

I know sasha could be next in line.. But i really want Dana , Emma or Alicia on the next titles feud.. Just need something fresh for the raw women champion ..

    • Thiago Oliveira

Just give up on Alicia Fox. She is already destined as a fixed jobber (or filler) until the end of her career in WWE. unfortunately.

      • Sad truth

      • Gail-Rollins Fan

Agreed. She keeps re signing though, so I don’t feel TOO bad for her. She’s Gail’s best friend so she could have had a contract in TNA at any time. I think she’s complacent just being there and collecting her check. Which is fine I guess, but I’d love to see what she could do with no limitations set on her..

        • Don Prima

I think so too. I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t care about winning championships anymore. She seems content with her valet role. She may find enjoyment with WWE out of the ring than in. The backstage atmosphere doesn’t look as toxic for the women than the men.

        • glassjaw

Hopefully Alicia is building a nice little empire for herself with the coins WWE give her.

      • ralfikh

Yes but still.. It’ll be cool if Alicia been given a chance at the title when Charlotte is the champ.. Both tall n very athletic.. That could be a memorable feud/match imo..

      • mckenzie

Don’t ever give up on Alicia. She’s a veteran along with Nattie. After 10 years she’s still a beautiful fresh face and fun personality. She’s makes great matches. She’s First Lady of 205. She’s loyal to the company. There’s a possibility of her being drafted to smackdown soon and taking that title.

  • limfox

Idk how I went from liking Bayley in 2015 to viewing her as a flop in 2017. time really is the ultimate truth teller

    • Gail-Rollins Fan

Being on unrehearsed TV every week really exposed the weaknesses that both Sasha & Bayley have. Everyone thought they were untouchable in NXT. Charlotte seems to be able to perform at a higher level on a more consistent basis than they other two.

      • Bryskers

Which is why Charlotte started getting more and more support where she was highly criticized after he call-up. She worked through her weaknesses to become the most consistant women on the brand while Sasha and Bayley stayed the same and mostly relied on the popularity they acquired in NXT.
Also, Charlotte seems like the kind of person who works better under pressure.

        • Gail-Rollins Fan

Completely agree. Your last statement said it all.

      • limfox

        !!!!! Sis READ TO ME!

It’s ironic because everyone was shitting on a Charlotte in the beginning but she ended up being the true MVP and most reliable of the 4HW tbh

        • Gail-Rollins Fan

Yep! Everybody was hating on her and calling her a “fridge”.

      • glassjaw

To be fair, however, more thought and development went into Charlotte’s character and performance level on creative’s side. Bayley and Sasha were sort of just chucked out in the typical vanilla babyface role. Bayley’s mic work since being called up has been shoddy at best, while Sasha just seems inhibited playing the good girl.

  • vdcvt

Still need to watch the matches but glad I’ve heard Sasha vs Nia was decent. I’m hoping this leads to an actual monster version of Nia leading up to Wrestlemania since she lost and wants revenge now. Charlotte losing was surprising but also really underwhelming like you said. Tbh inserting any of the other women into the main focus, Emma, Alicia, Dana, and PLEASE Summer would really make things interesting but it’s looking real meh atm.

  • LeBoss

Sasha vs Nia was the better match for me. The longer time allowed Nia to show that she has the endurance to withstand a long match. I didn’t like how she didn’t focus on the knee at all, since logically that would’ve made more sense. I do however love the finish because there’s no way in hell she could’ve kicked out of that. And it shows how Sasha had to use her experience to win.

Now onto the title match. Ugh.
I’ve said so many times Charlotte and Bayley just don’t click. Yes the match was good but just like all of their matches it never really seems to move out of 2nd gear and it’s just slow. Bayley is simply an average wrestler with an average move set and average mic skills. But she’s a damn good storyteller. Sadly, with this current women’s divisions it’s about the best of both worlds and I feel like Bayley is the weakest of the 4HW and the breaking of the streak should’ve went to Sasha and not her but I digress.

  • I cannot believe that they did the right thing! Now lets see if they use this to set up Bayley v Sasha like they should…

    WHERE THE FUCK IS EMMA!?!?

    • In her caccoon still re-transforming.

    • Gail-Rollins Fan

I bet Emma is in the doghouse right now for not making that stupid gimmick work.

  • Gail-Rollins Fan

After ALL of this time, if Bayley was to be the one who ended Charlotte’s streak then she should have either WON the belt last night, or won it at Wrestlemania. Doing it at a “C level” PPV like Fastlane was just stupid after all of this time.

Hell they could have used a DQ finish last night to keep Charlotte unpinned, then have someone else take the fall at Wrestlemania in the Fatal Fourway. So that way Charlottes streak could be saved for Asuka’s call up while Bayley/Sasha do their own thing in the title picture.

    • mckenzie

Charlottes going to take it back at Wrestlemania

I had a dream awhile ago, I still remember. There was Becky lynch(still face) vs Charlotte(face) vs Nia Jax(more monsterous and vicious, and got a lot of heat) and a surprise competitor, and then all of sudden her name showed up on the titantron with a new theme and came with her blonde hair and same attire she’s always had and the crowd went nuts, annnnd then I woke up. Best dream ever!

Melina is true Queen, she’s the reason why I started watching wwe, and hopsefully one day she’ll return. She’s also in the best shape of her life! Miss you Melina!

        • ILoveMelina(Real ILM)Yiorgos

I hope this is a psychic dream ??? she’s having great matches on the indies… I’d really love her to make a WWE return!! She’s also the reason I started watching wrestling as well!! I was in awe when I saw her with MNM when they debuted

This is out of topic but Jerry is disgusting, he made fun of Nia’s size and mentioned her car accident as a “joke”. I can’t stand him.

Best advice on here is to ignore the ones who enjoy arguing just for the sake of attention and boredum.

  • Gail-Rollins Fan

This booking for Bayley has me wondering if they are going to swerve us, and have her go heel on Sasha instead of the other way around.

    • Bryskers

That would be interesting tbh. Back in NXT, I was one of those thinking Bayley should NEVER turn heel, but seeing how they are handling her as opposed to Sasha, that’s not something I would reject.
Sasha is the better underdog of the two anyways, and has been for awhile. (Which is something I never thought i’d type…)

I do think it would be too soon and not the smartest idea (given Raw has too many heels and heel Boss is the bomb and would still make more sense storyline-wise), but maybe down the line, why not?

      • Gail-Rollins Fan

Yeah personally I think Sasha needs to turn heel, let her and Bayley have a small program until the rumored trade/draft in June and send Sasha off to Smackdown. Sasha needs to be separated from Charlotte (and to a lesser extent Bayley). And Smackdown also needs a heel like Sasha that can lead matches because they are severely lacking in that department right now.

        • TabbyK

After last night I’m starting to think Charlotte’s the one heading to Smackdown instead. Plus Sasha is rumoured to be working a feud with Bayley up until Summerslam.

  • Allyn

hmm I don’t know how I feel about the fatal 4way at mania idea yet, after last night I still don’t want any of them as champion….I like nia but no she is not ready….if I have to see someone as champion though I’ll settle for a heel Sasha, unless they let Bayley retain and then give it to Emma.

  • PYM #TheRoadTo5

Legitimate Trash. Bayley… Garbage. Sasha… Garbage. Nia… Garbage. Charlotte QUEEN! She should have won by DQ. The match itself wasn’t very good at all either. Nia vs Sasha was okay. Glad Nia is being kept out of Wrestlemania. I don’t buy Bayley as Champion and I can’t wait for Charlotte to capture her second Wrestlemania win and become a 5 time 5 TIME!!!! Women’s Champion!!!

  • conan_kun

Charlotte’s streak was never planned and Charlotte even mentioned in an interview that she didn’t realize that she was undefeated in championship PPV matches before someone brought it up in an interview. If you go and watch the road to SummerSlam, WWE clearly could not have cared less about the streak. But because of Sasha’s back injury changed everything, they thought Sasha may be out of action for a long time, so Sasha lost the title back to Charlotte at Summerslam but never expected Sasha managed to be back so early. Even so, they should let Sasha retain at HIAC, then ends Sasha/Charlotte feud, Sasha should hold the title and begin the slow heel turn, eventually set up heel Sasha vs Bayley at WM33.

  • Well Fastlane is always dissapointing, at leasr It wasn’t predictable like the others from the RAW brand. The highlights of the night; Sasha Flawless attire, Nia Jax a bit dominant moves and the end of Charlotte PPV streak .

  • Zayniac. #Emre

This PPV was utter garbage for a whole lot of reasons…

1.) Why was Samoa Joe vs. Sami Zayn so short?
2.) Why were there 2 filler matches?
3.) Why did KO lose to a lazy ass part timer and will now walk into WM as the champion?
4.) Why was Bayley vs. Charlotte so off considering they had numerous matches in the past, which were much better than the one from Fastlane?

The only good sides for me were…

1.) The cruiser weight title match!
    2.) Sasha’s new gear!
    3.) Roman Reigns’ new shoes!

    • ThePeaceVibe.

I enjoyed the CW title match as well. Typically I don’t care much about attires, but Sasha’s was pretty nice – probably my favorite she’s had.

Who ever upvoted this and you who wrote it obviously don’t know shit about wrestling. Take your trolling ass elsewhere. They are one of the best in the wrestling industry now, so you just saying this makes no sense.

        • Jesus’s brother

Loool, Sami is irrelevant and he is losing as he should! Kevin Owens was so boring and his feuds were comedy acts loool Jericho overshadowed KO

    • PYM #TheRoadTo5

Sasha’s color combo actually goes with her hair for once… I’m tired of her attires that are like 5 random colors that make her look like a clown. That should only be Bayley’s gimmick.

  • TabbyK

So they spent all this time building up Charlottes PPV streak (which only made the majority of her feud with Sasha predictable) so Bayley “the underdog” could end it in a standard match at, a B PPV, instead of letting Sasha beat Charlotte once and for all, in the first ever women’s Hell in a Cell match? Ok.

I just wish they didn’t spend all this time persevering a streak and weighing down what could’ve been a really amazing story between Sasha and Charlotte, just to end it in such a lacklustre way.

    • Crazy. #RIPMae

      Tell it!

  • ThePaigeturner

Bayley and Charlotte proved why people have been saying they have the least amount of chemistry out of all the 4HW. Almost their entire match was off and the crowd couldn’t have cared less about any of the spots they were trying to do.

Nia vs Sasha was fine but if they’re still planning on adding Nia to the match they have to do something to make her look credible because nothing these past few weeks have done that.

    • Gail-Rollins Fan

To be fair all of the matches last night (minus the CW match sucked). Bayley and Charlotte have had much better encounters.

    • Jesus’s brother

Next week on raw, Bayley w/Sasha Banks vs. Dana Brooke w/Charlotte, Nia comes to the ring mid match and lays everyone out with actual powerhouse moves like: powerbombs and powerslams. Nia holds the championship among Sasha, Dana, Bayley and Charlotte’s dead bodies.

that would make her a threat!

      • ThePaigeturner

That would which is exactly why there’s no way WWE will do any of that this with Nia.

  • conan_kun

I thought that Sasha may grab the rope for leverage but it could be too far away

I think this was how the finish was supposed to be- her grabbing the ropes but things didn’t work out.

But she grabbed the rope after the 3 though

Fast Lane was decidedly middle of the road. Far from bad, but nowhere near exciting either. While RAW has done a concentrated job of positioning the Women’s Championship as the No2 title on the brand, the tight scramble for power between the four talents only being used has created a tightrope for the women to cross each time they enter the ring.

Point in case Sasha Banks, a main eventer who’s astonishingly just won her first PPV match since, what, Battleground? Which comes at the expense of Nia Jax’s dominance potentially being sacrificed. She and Nia didn’t have a great match; they had a match which was fine for what it had to be – one that regained Banks some momentum without serving Nia a decisive loss.

By the way it’s true: Charlotte and Bayley do have tepid chemistry. It’s not that they don’t work well together – their RAW main event title match was stellar – it’s just that there isn’t much in the way of character dynamics between them. And so the match in which everyone widely speculated was to be yet another predictable title switch instead saw the deceptively underwhelming conclusion to Charlotte’s history making PPV streak. Fast Lane being the last pitstop before Wrestlemania might have been an odd choice to go with, but looking deeper perhaps not.

Obviously the cauldron is being brewed for Banks’ heel turn. It feels like a foregone conclusion that Banks vs Bayley is the ultimate destination this year, but things could be so much fun if WWE take the Machiavellian route. The following is everything I hope Banks’ derives when she’s asked to write her post-turn promo:

Banks was instrumental in providing Bayley her first main roster championship and also breaking the PPV streak of Charlotte. Not only has that tainted Bayley accomplishing her dreams, but it’s also subtly allowed Banks to exact revenge on the woman she herself could never eliminate from the equation. Banks has impetus to slowly but surely get into Bayley’s head in ambiguous ways.

Come the moment Banks digs the knife deep into poor Bayley’s back and snatches the title, we see a complete rebirth of the women’s division: Banks cuts a promo trashing Bayley, Charlotte, the women’s division, the WWE Universe, and celebrates her own underhand genius. Bayley adds the darker stripes she attained after winning the NXT title (more aggressive, less childlike) and Charlotte enters a downward spiral which leads to Dana (and later Emma) going heel and targeting her.

    • PoisonFelino#Watermelondrea

*Emmalina voice* “Your comment is sooooo good and it’s soooo looong”

I love your ideas for the women. It most of them something to do and Emma would benefit from a feud with Charlotte.

I wonder how Charlotte would do as a face now, I love her as a heel. I hope she stays cocky and keeps that Queen monicker.

I agree with you about both matches.
I also would’ve preferred for Charlotte’s streak to be ended at mania and not such a random PPV like Fastlane. It would’ve been such a big moment with huge reactions. And I think it should’ve been Bayley’s first title win at the same time.

And yes, Bayley getting more layers and being more aggressive after Sasha turns on her is what she needs eventually.

      • glassjaw

Charlotte turning heel won’t be such a huge problem if handled with a bit of common sense. For starters, she has that stunning athleticism which makes the crowd pop. Put her with someone who can malign the audience and you’re fine – which makes Dana such a huge fit. Although treated badly by Charlotte, Dana’s a natural trash talker and Emma’s a great in-ring heel. I’m fairly confident Charlotte can get the cheers by turning into a badass babyface.

        • PoisonFelino#Watermelondrea

Yeah, as long as they don’t strip Charlotte of what makes her Charlotte. Like when they turned Victoria into a dance X_x
She should be a cocky, bad ass baby face. She tweeted “16-1 is a battle scar” that’s actually a cool line/ attitude for a babyface.

I hope they don’t overdo it with using her athleticism. They should still book her as strong and intense as a face.

  • PoisonFelino#Watermelondrea

    I liked Sasha vs Nia
No it wasn’t one of the greatest matches of all time but it was enjoyable.
Finally Nia busted out a few more moves, although someone needs to teach her how to make that torture rack look painful. The way she did it looked like Sasha was just chillin’ on her shoulders, getting some beauty rest.
    While
I hope Nia keeps expanding her moveset.

With all the work on Sasha’s back I wished we had seen Nia go for the stretch muffler or the other submission move Nia used against Sasha on RAW.

I was fine with the finish as it protected Nia but a craftier looking roll up would’ve been better and more believable.

  • PoisonFelino#Watermelondrea

The match was good although I’m still waiting for Bayley to wow me.
She’s good but somehow I’m still not entirely connecting with her. Most of her offense looks dull to me. Although I love that she added that back suplex.
I hope she keeps getting more aggressive in the ring as her character develops. She already showed a few nice moves in this match.
I felt bad for her that her springboard elbow got botched twice due to the ref being in the way but it wasn’t that terrible.

Charlotte of course brought her A game once again. That Moonsault into the Senton was nice to look at.

Overall I enjoyed the match although it won’t go down as of of my all time faves in history.

Even though it would’ve been predictable, I wish that Charlotte’s streak got broken at WM as well as Bayley winning the title for the first time at WM.

  • superb match and show

  • Vince Martin

Bayley should turn heel to give us a twist.

    • Crazy. #RIPMae

Bayley turning heel? That’s like saying Cena will turn heel. It’ll never happen. Both make too much money for Vince as a babyface to turn heel.

      • Vince Martin

It’ll be such a good swerve though. I doubt it’ll happen. Heck even Becky has a bigger chance of turning heel before Bayley

  • Crazy. #RIPMae

Bayley and Charlotte’s match was a mess. Bayley was so sloppy last night. But if it was Dana Brooke being sloppy and botching, everyone would attack her.

  • Organization XIII

Worst PPV of 2017. Nia vs Sasha was a good match but the result I didn’t expect. Charlotte vs Bayley was exactly as I thought it would be. I’m just waiting new women to come up. This roster has been the worst booked roster I have witnessed in years.

    • PYM #TheRoadTo5

to be fair it’s only been the second one. lol but I do agree this was a very bad ppv.

      • Organization XIII

        I keep forgetting it’s only March ?

    • Lushluke

It’s not the worst booked roster in years come on. I’ve sat thru some shit in the 18 years I’ve been watching

  • mckenzie

Charlotte can still say she’s never lost the title on a pic hahahhaha

  • Miguel Orona Rodríguez

Fastlane was weird as a whole. The PPV felt like another RAW edition, it sucked. The only exception were Braun vs Roman. That was a good match and I don’t like neither of the guys. Nia vs Sasha got a good storytelling but the ending was weak. How did Sasha could hold Nia for the 3 count without knocking her? Then the real main event of the night (Bayley vs. Charlotte) lacked of intensity. It was a goot technical wrestling match (taking out Bayley’s botch) but even with Charlotte being such an intense persona in the ring, Bayley didn’t seemed to really get fans behind. The outcome it still makes total sense, this match was 100 steps foward in storytelling than anything Bayley & Charlotte or Sasha have done in a long time. This is already setting Bayley vs Charlotte vs Sasha to WM. It got them all involved, Bayley looks like the underdog since she was beated during the whole match only to be saved by Sasha. The Boss is on a grey area of turning heel, her involvement it only seems to be a set up for her to get the belt. Charlotte got a reason for revenge, she lost her undefeated streak, she was unable to recapture the belt and she was dominant in defeat.

  • Gabriella Panajotova

I think the finish to Nia vs Sasha was a tad botched. Sasha tried to get a hold of the ropes to secure her pin, and it would’ve worked since the ref was out of position to see but she was a bit late on that.

  • Lushluke

Bayley is everything I don’t like. She’s the opposite of what I like. I watch the women of WWE for their fierceness, sexy ways etc. Urgh she just so plain. But I appreciate how over with the universe she is
