Lita recently appeared on Lilian Garcia‘s  “Making Their Way to the Ring” podcast where she opened up deeply about her former relationships with Team Extreme member Matt Hardy and the Rated R Superstar Edge. In the interview, she also talks about how her absentee father affects her and her relationships. She also discusses her impact in wrestling, her love of traveling, redefining life goals, and more.

Highlights below courtesy of Wrestle Zone:

On realizing her relationship with Matt Hardy was coming to an end in 2005:

“We were slightly disconnected while I was at home recuperating because he was still 100% into his career and I was 100% out of it at the moment because I had to be. And I remember thinking ‘Yeah we’re not gonna be together after our careers are over because of that, that is our bond. The way we view life, our interests, they don’t really align you know? I can’t see myself growing old with this person.”

On her relationship with Edge:

“I know both of us were kind of like, ‘Oh sh*t’ you know once we started to-to realize we were more than just two bros just hanging out. And so the hard thing that has always been with this time period is, you know, we realized we were going down a path that we shouldn’t and what I mean by that is mentally, mentally.”

“We’d kissed finally and freaked out.”

She adds, “Adam was on the road and I said ‘Hey, you know what? Let’s take this as an opportunity. We need to be in our own worlds and evaluate and don’t do anything because you know, like don’t do anything for me, I’m not gonna do anything for you. I need to figure out what is right for my world. You need to figure out what’s right for your world. If we meet up on the other side, cool. If not, I support and respect whatever your decisions are. He’s like ‘Okay that seems like the mature adult thing to do’.”

Her thoughts on the whole thing being turned into a storyline:

“It became such a hot story and they said ‘They want to turn this into a story, but you guys have been professional, he hasn’t, there is money involved in this storyline, but it’s your call’.

“You know we felt terrible he lost his job over it so we’re like ’Yeah, we made our bed we’ll lie in it.’

What she learned about the whole ordeal:

“I think just acceptance of me with all my flaws and acceptance of everyone else and all their flaws as well.”

On her relationship with her father:

“My dad never came to a soccer game, a swim meet, anything. So I just never … it was odd I never knew him, but I didn’t know that I didn’t know him, because I saw him everyday. And the moment my parents split up, we pretty much never talked. Because I didn’t have anything to talk to him about now that he’s not under the same roof.”

How her relationship with her father has affected her:

“I know that it’s affected my relationship with men because it makes me keep a wall up and never really give in, because I’m like I don’t want the rejection. You know? And I just never felt accepted by my dad. He was just never interested in me, you know? And I do feel like I’ve always just leaned on ‘Oh I’m a tomboy, I’m into like you know, cool dude stuff, I’m into skateboarding, I’m into hardcore, I’m into martial arts’, because it’s like, yeah I wanted approval from guys. I wanted to be around things that the guys were doing and I wanted them to be like ‘Wow you can do this as good as me, high-five’. And realizing that, that’s why I was gravitating towards that was a little hard to swallow.”

Wow this is a great interview. I totally understand her in the father situation. I like how she did give us some insight on the whole love triangle storyline. I commend all three parties for them being professional enough to pull it off. Cause idk how I would.

Yer I never really understood how that storyline came about or why they accepted but now I know.

After hearing the interview I definitely feel like it was blown WAY out of proportion when news first broke of it. Since no one really talked about the situation no one was really explained what ACTUALLY happened and I feel like Amy did a good job in explaining the story. She realized that the only thing holding Matt and her together was work and that wasn’t enough for her to stay. She found more of a connection with Edge but also realized that she screwed up by kissing him AND managed to basically be like “hey lets not do this right now. If it happens to work out later great if not then oh well.” I guess when word got out that she cheated (it’s always seen as the woman’s fault more than the guy she cheated with) and no one really said their side of the story everyone ran with the idea that Lita was a cheating slut cause Matt was such a fan favorite. As for making it an angle I felt like it could have ended when Matt lost the “Loser leaves WWE” match (if I remember that was part of the storyline) but the idea of bringing their personal life and making it into a feud crosses lines that WWE shouldn’t have crossed. Although it did help elevate Edge into “The Rated R SuperStar” it made Lita look worse than she probably felt so it really backfired on her and her career

Lita’s final chapter in WWE is a heartbreaker. On the one hand, her injuries had regressed her abilities to the point a heel turn was arguably the only direction to go. And while Lita rendered a sensational performance in playing the heel, like a sceptre to lightning, the real-life controversy which inspired it created a genuine volatility in the way crowds reacted to her. As a fan, it was quite horrible to see just how far WWE capitalised on slut shaming her – uncomfortable might be a better word, actually. When Lita retired I felt more relief than sadness.

Same here; ESPECIALLY after she got dissed, hissed and dismissed by Cryme Tyme @ Survivor Series ’06. In my opinion she should not have come back unless Vince McMahon personally apologized to her for all that in the ring, in front of the whole world.

Lillian keeps coming with amazing interviews. Lita & Mickie’s are my top because there is something we never knew about and they got so personal in there.

  • Booking 101

Lillian has been doing an awesome job with these interviews. She knows exactly how to approach these more delicate situations and ask some big questions.

My personal favorite thus far has been the one with Sasha. It’s an absolute heartbreak to hear her story. The Mickie one was amazing as well

Loved this interview, Lilian is doing a great job! I hate how much the storyline was blown out of proportion, and how much hate she got because of it.
I’ve seen on other news boards people post various names such as HHH, SCSA, Sting & Batista who have all done similar things and it was never as bad.

Amy’s career certainly suffered because of the way this situation was dealt with. I’m glad she has a positive look on it though, life lessons and what have you.

She’ll always be my favourite. Loved her as both face and heel. I really do hope she comes back one day for a final program as she really does deserve a better ending to her in ring career than that hoe-sale.

I’ve made $84,000 so far this year working online and I’m a full time student. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great money. It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. The potential with this is endless. Here’s what I do

I hope she asks her about CM Punk! I am currently listening to it and I feel like that’s a big point of interest to me.

  • #VindictiveBitch

I can’t handle Lita crying omg

  • Jo9834

This interview was amazing. I really wanted them to touch more on moments during her career IE the Raw main event etc BUT I am so glad they talked about her as a person more than anything.

I kind of get that Lita is really a free spirit, she seems really detached from the business in a lot of ways and it almost seems as though being a celebrity kind of goes against who she is naturally. A new appreciation for who she is and I hope she finds her way back to the WWE in a better role in future.

    • John Finnie

Amy seems like the person who once a chapter is over that’s it over for good

With age comes wisdom’ this was about Amy the woman not lita the character it was great the best by far

As Lillian said she knows more Amy today than she did during her wwe days

  • Randall

This was such a good interview. I don’t ever recall Lita crying before doing an interview lol. This interview and Sasha has been my favorite so far. Lilian does a great job at approaching these questions.

  • John Finnie

I just love this woman I honestly don’t know what kept me loving her after wwe but I still follow her at this point iv accepted that another wwe run is not happening & I thank Mickie james for that because I see how MJs second run so far is a disappointment so far

I really want the next interview to be with Melina
