After last week‘s number one contender Battle Royal match, there was much speculation as to whether Ember Moon would be able to compete at TakeOver: Chicago after she took a nasty fall off the barricade.

WWE.com is now confirming that Ember Moon has been pulled from the NXT Women’s Title match at TakeOver, citing that she has been sidelined due to a sprain shoulder and will be out of action for  four to five weeks.

Read the breaking news below:

Ember Moon’s title opportunity against NXT Women’s Champion Asuka will have to wait. Moon suffered a grade one shoulder sprain as a result of Asuka’s ambush during last week’s No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal and will not be able to compete at NXT TakeOver: Chicago on May 20, WWE.com has learned. Doctors estimate that Moon will require four to five weeks to recover from the injury. Along with Ruby Riot and Nikki Cross, Moon was scheduled to challenge Asuka in an NXT Women’s Championship Fatal 4-Way Match in Chicago. NXT General Manager William Regal announced the title bout after Asuka crashed last week’s No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royaland brutalized the three finalists: Moon, Riot and Cross. During the turmoil, The Empress of Tomorrow pushed Moon off the top turnbuckle before launching her through the ropes, causing Moon to fall hard on the floor. More details are expected to be released this Wednesday on NXT.

Watch Ember discuss her injury below:

As of now, it appears the the NXT Women’s Title match at TakeOver: Chicago will be a triple threat match featuring Asuka, Nikki Cross and Ruby Riot.

What are our thoughts Ember’s injury? How do you think this will change the NXT Women’s Title match? Who do you think will win at TakeOver: Chicago? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Charlie Flickinger

So Asuka retains and then they build Asuka v ember out of the shoulder injury. This gives them time to build up asuka’s reign to make it legitimately beat Goldberg’s and then Ember makes her grand return and dethrones the Empress of Tomorrow.

  • Shame but was expected and I guess it’s a good thing as i doubt she was going to win there anyway

  • Ugh, they’re just finding ways to extend Asuka’s reign when it’s not needed AT ALL. This is ridiculous. Just take the title off her already. She won’t gain anything by retaining again, nor will other girls. By the time Ember wins the title everyone will be over the whole thing.

    • #BrieForPeace ?

tbh i’m already over it. It didn’t make sense for Ember to lose the first time around, hell it didn’t even make sense for her to be placed right away as the number 1 contender with no build-up. It was merely to ride the coattails the fan enthusiasm around the dream match which completely flopped.

      • They’ve had 8 months to make something out of it and they did nothing. Now when Ember returns she’ll just challenge and that will be it. And it’s worse that Asuka already retained so the outcome is gonna be so predictable.

      • howie_ruhl

Still better than any match Brie has ever put on in her–what?–100 years in the company?

    • Wrestling.fan.from.France

It’s not as if they wanted Ember to get injured…

      • It’s a storyline.

        • Wrestling.fan.from.France

Is it? Because it doesn’t seem like that… The bump was quite big and it seemed legit here.

          • It is, they never do this stuff about injuries unless they’re scripted. She even got that video to explain what’s coming next.

          • Gabriella Panajotova

It can be real and they are just trying to keep face. Honestly, Ember seeking revenge for her injury is a great story so I’m not surprised they did the interview and everything.

          • It could be, but they wouldn’t let Ember bump like that for no reason. And they would’ve helped her immediately after the battle royal, instead everyone was waiting for 5 minutes for Regal to announce the match.

          • Gabriella Panajotova

From what we got to see it really can be either way. I don’t think her injury is serious, I think she just can’t make it for the PPV, but I do think it was legit.
If its not legit I don’t see the need for it.

          • As I said, they would’ve rushed her backstage to see if it was fine or not, they wouldn’t have let her lay in pain for no reason. But it is what it is, we get a triple threat now.

          • Gabriella Panajotova

And as I said I see no need for this not being legit. It’s just an odd booking idea if it was worked.

          • Well, they’re probably gonna have Asuka pin Ruby, making Nikki mad that she cost her title win, and they’ll continue their feud, while Ember will return and claim her title match she never got. There you go.

          • Gabriella Panajotova

Okay but that’ll be fine if Ember is actually injured because it makes no sense for Asuka as character to purposefully injure Ember. She already beat her, it was never translated through the shows that Asuka was shaken by the possibility of Ember winning the shot.
The only time she seemed a bit worried was after Regal announced the 4 way.
If it’s a worked injury the storytelling is terrible so far.

          • Asuka didn’t really ”injure her”, Ember just flew the wrong way, and into the barricade. And she was shaken that Ember or other 3 could win the match so she came out to destroy them all. They’re a mess at following it up overall tho.

          • Gabriella Panajotova

Okay, if we’re gonna talk about a worked injury as you are doing, clearly Asuka must have had that as her plan all along otherwise Ember wouldn’t have hot enough and motivated enough comeback.

          • Well she just cleaned the house and Ember happened to get injured. Now the comeback is starting

          • Gabriella Panajotova

Nah. If this is a planned spot it must be more than just “Ember being stupid and flying over” imo. Eh, it’s just so eh. I’m done with NXT at this point.

          • You don’t get it, Asuka threw her out, but she flew into the barricade ”by accident”, and it turns out to work that way better for Asuka. And I agree, mess after a mess

          • Gabriella Panajotova

No, I understand what you were saying I just don’t think it makes sense and would much rather them selling it as Asuka’s doing rather than accidental result.

          • Wrestling.fan.from.France

I have seen the video and the fact that she didn’t mention Asuka makes me believe that it is legit. She just said that she will come back better than ever without necessarily saying that she will go after Asuka directly.

          • Just see what they did after the battle royal, they let Ember lay there for minutes only to hear Regal’s announcement instead of helping her and rushing her backstage to get help.

          • Wrestling.fan.from.France

I don’t know… Maybe you’re right but for some reasons, it doesn’t entirely feel planed in my view but you may be right.

  • #BrieForPeace ?

I feel sorry for Ember, she did take a nasty fall and it sucks she has to be sidelined but i’m not gonna lie this might be a miracle in disguise for her. The match itself is totally lackluster but while some may argue that she could’ve gotten the title at TO I say this leaves more space for interesting things to happen leading to the eventual Ember Moon title reign as opposed to the lackluster Ember vs Asuka interaction only. We will get to see more from Ruby and Nikki as wrestlers and what they can do and it will be interesting to see how they fair against Asuka seeing they’re rivals but have one common target. Asuka most surely won’t lose and while i’m not here for predictable Asuka vs Ember it does give them time to build something interesting and turn this whole division around.

  • Troy Rochester

Gutted for Ember I really do think this Fatal Four Way was meant for her to win . I’m rooting for Nikki to pull a shocker and win the title now but it will probably be Asuka retaining now ….

  • Organization XIII
    • Memo Soto

    • Gabriella Panajotova

I see this staying a 3 way tbh.

      • Organization XIII

Rather it not be. Not invested in Ruby. Nikki just started to appeal to me

        • Gabriella Panajotova

I just don’t see a way to introduce Peyton. She was eliminated. Why would she get a chance? But this is NXT and NXT doesn’t make much sense these days so all is possible :D

          • Organization XIII

Billie & Peyton could demand another shot to be #1 contender. Regal could deny it. Peyton & Billie can attack Ruby & Nikki backstage making Regal make a either a tag or fatal four way where if the iconic duo wins which gets the pin gets put in the TO match

          • Gabriella Panajotova

When is the Takeover match? Do they actually have time for tapings to pull the match?

          • Organization XIII

Hmm now that you mention it….nope. TO is May 20th

      • Miguel Orona Rodríguez

I agree, this will be a 3 way and I’m ok with it.

  • Jorge Hernandez Moran

I honestly never want to see a title reign as long as Asuka’s

  • Gabriella Panajotova

Well then, Riot all the way (even tho I think Asuka will retain sadly)

  • Luiz Giem

What a bad timing for Ember but this might be a blessing in disguise. Asuka is probably going to retain by pinning Ruby Riot who is the newbie on the match and Asuka will reign supreme once more until Ember comes back looking for some revenge and that will only fuel Ember’s character since she’s going after the woman who injured her and that will happen at the Pre-SummerSlam Takeover.

Anyway, I hope Ember has a speedy recovery.

  • A?.

Welp, there goes the chance of Asuka losing. Hope she gets well soon.

  • Don ?

If the Creative Team were smart they’d turn this negative into a positive. They could very easily turn Ember’s injury into a comeback storyline that leads to her challenging and defeating Asuka for the women’s championship. Weekly vignettes showcasing Ember’s recovery while giving slight character development could be implemented in the meantime. I’m hoping Asuka wins the Triple Threat match now (was originally rooting for Moon or Cross when it was a F4W) so the feud between Asuka and Ember may continue. I hope Ember has a speedy recovery!!

  • A?.

I honestly don’t know why some of you find this exciting, y’all said the build up for Ember vs Asuka for this Takeover was going to be even better since Asuka cheated, but it was bland, plain and basic. I’m not expecting anything good from NXT creative team.

    • Gabriella Panajotova

I agree even if they try and go the route of “Asuka was scared of Ember so that’s why she injured her”, why would Asuka bother to do it? Why would she be scared? She already beat her. At this point the only way I see Asuka losing is a surprise win or her saying “Fuck yall, yall are boring I’m going bananas on the main roster.”

      • Darren C. #Anti-Marks ?

Asuka defeated Ember by cheating. So yes, she’s afraid of Ember.

        • Gabriella Panajotova

But my point is it never got translated. That’s my issue. Nothing is being told, this is as random as it gets. NXT should try and be more consistent in telling a story instead of leaving this for 2 weeks before a TakeOver.

          • Crazy. #RIPMae

They have the entire Summer to build this feud for Brooklyn. If done right, it could be good.

          • Gabriella Panajotova

Sigh….I’m talking about the booking so far…

      • #Pray4Emma

Omgggg I love the “fuck y’all, I’m going to the main roster” that would be hilarious but yet so shady LMAOOO

  • Are they really doing the same injury-> return-> title match storyline for Brooklyn for the third year in a row?

  • B J

It seems to be a work. She’ll be ready come Take Over

  • Ollie Roche

Slightly off topic but I miss seeing Daria Berenato and to a lesser extent Mandy Rose. Please put them back on my screen.

  • -V

This sounds exactly like the Naomi injury to me before Wrestlemania which I still believe was all part of storyline but anyways it doesn’t matter.

I believe Asuka is gonna retain in Chicago which is gonna lead to a match (hopefully it’ll be something like title vs career) in Brooklyn in August where Ember can finally have her moment. That way, not only will Asuka’s reing be more than 500+ days but she’ll be able to surpass Goldberg’s winning streak which is fab.

    • Crazy. #RIPMae

Title vs career will be great. It’ll get the fans on Ember’s side, hoping she don’t lose. It’ll definitely be a great underdog story.

  • Darren C. #Anti-Marks ?

Thanks God. I hope this serves as a lesson for all the idiots from indies who put their lives at risk with unnecessary spots.

  • Kvngbalor

Without Ember this match seems so random and wtf ish this should of been Ruby vs Nikki in a no holds barred match or Chicago Street Fight and let them beat the shit out of one another i don’t believe Ember is injured i think this is just adding to her character and stalling for Ember vs Asuka NXT Brooklyn where Ember wins …. They’re stalling this so bad

  • A triple threat is less intriguing with these women but I’m sure they’re capable of a good match. Please let Asuka retain. Ruby & Nikki haven’t earned it yet. Ember has.

  • 3???????

Well askua will retain . I think this was ember moons moment

  • 3???????

Ember will defeat asuka at the take over before summer slam , bookmark me .

    • Crazy. #RIPMae

Brooklyn? Of course she will. That’s the only Takeover after this one.

  • conan_kun

I hope Nikki Cross wins the title at Takeover, like after Asuka kicks Ruby, Nikki steals the pin while Sanity member Eric Young hold Asuka’s leg to stop her breaking the pin.

  • Aye Mate

Disappointing, but not without opportunity: turn it into a work, which informs Ember Moon’s character to return hungrier and more ferocious in her campaign to dethrone Asuka. Meanwhile, let the triple threat be all out urban warfare: three women committing to beating the holy shit out of each other.

  • I was thinking that this was part of a storyline, shame that isn’t the case, because was Ember Moon’s fault, she failed to deliver the second rope throw. Hope she recovers, returns and finally conquer the title. In the other hand I’m praying for Nikki to dethrone her pinning Riot.

  • Crazy. #RIPMae

The Iconic Duo should cost Asuka the match. Have them hold her back or something while Nikki and Ruby fight. Then let Nikki pin Ruby to win the title. But knowing NXT, we’ll probably get Asuka retaining and Asuka vs Ember Part II in Brooklyn…

  • George

Maybe it’s just a storyline to make a surprise return for the match lmao

  • Vito

im SO MAD…. why is she the next sasha, queen of being extra and injuring herself while selling

  • ?K . A . T ?

Feel bad for Ember but I kind of feel like this is a blessing in disguise. They could use this injury as an angle where Ember believes Asuka purposely hurt her because she is afraid of getting beat by her, leading to Ember being even more determined to beat Asuka.

  • Ronnieboi_M

I always get scared when female superstars get storyline injuries. I’m not sure if it was kayfabe or not, but Candice Michelle got injured during a battle royal and came back with a new nose. So these storylines always make me wonder ? And personally I think Ember is gorgeous.

    • MK126

That’s cause her nose was legit broken and needed to be fixed. I don’t think WWE would do an injury storyline so someone can get a nose job lol

      • Ronnieboi_M

Yeah I didn’t know if it was real or not. I just thought maybe Candice was selling it brilliantly. But nonetheless I hope Ember is okay. She’s so exciting to watch. I totally buy her promos.

      • JP

They did it with Alundra Blayze, though that was the mid ’90s.

        • MK126

I didn’t know that but Blayze > Michelle in terms of star power and name so she definitely could have gotten away with it

  • vdcvt

tbh with Ember out I don’t really see Asuka losing at Chicago. Another Ember vs Asuka match? But tbh the build up in NXT shows is really lacking nowadays

  • Miguel Orona Rodríguez

There’s always this periods where tons of wrestlers are injured.

    Braun Strowman
    Ember Moon
    Roman Reigns

I’m sure there’s more to come.

I feel sorry for Ember because this was her night to win it. I’m almost sure Asuka is retaining here.

  • Benjamin Magnes

I see Asuka retaining. WWE has been obsesed with breaking long standing records and asuka is a sneeze away from breaking Goldberg`s 173 undefeated streak. If Asuka losses before 174 wins it throws her booking out the window. Asuka will win in chicago.

  • MK126

Well tbh it was kind of her fault… who the hell told her to fly out of the ring like that? it sucks to see her injured but itll definitely be a blessing in disguise cause maybe now within the next 4-5+ weeks we could see character development for her
