Tonight is the night for vengeance. It’s time for the women to take what was supposed to be theirs, and make it memorable. All five competitors

Before the night begins, some of the women are interviewed about the night’s main event.

Charlotte Flair is the first to be interviewed. The former RAW Women’s champion states that she is “confident” that “the right woman will walk out the winner” – and that woman is her.

Carmella is then interviewed next. The Princess of Staten Island reminds us of how she won the previous contest “fair and square”. She insists that just because the General Manager Daniel Bryan didn’t like the ending, it doesn’t mean that we need to redo the match. Carmella leaves us by stating that she will still get back what is “rightfully” hers, and thus will become the “undisputed Miss Money In The Bank.”

So now, onto the show!

Daniel Bryan takes to the ring to address the upcoming Money In The Bank match, but before he can get into it in detail, the F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S Carmella walks to the ring, with James Ellsworth by her side. Again, we see her go on about how unfair the rematch is, as she didn’t break any rules the first time. Bryan is persistent with his words as well, but it is Ellsworth that offers a bit of a turning point with the events. After insulting Bryan, claiming that he’s a “gutless, spineless, coward that has no grapefruits to cut it in the ring anymore so he made up some hooky injury,” the General Manager decides to take it one step further. As mentioned last week on Talking Smack, Ellsworth was banned from ringside during tonight’s Ladder match. So now, Bryan bans Ellsworth from the entire arena – bring in the security!

A cocky Ellsworth then tries to escape from the incoming security guards whom are made to drag him from the ropes. He manages to convince them to let go, and soon dashes away from them. Unfortunately his attempt of jumping over the barricade ends up with his stomach being hit, so he is soon carried away, kicking and screaming. Delightful.

So now let’s get on to the match we’ve been waiting for!

All five women enter the ring, and the bell rings. The women quickly attack one another, attempting to knock their opponents out to give themselves a chance at climbing the ladder.

The contest lasts for quite a while – though required adverts do take place. We see each woman get her shining moment, and it works perfectly for each.

Becky Lynch proves to be a sneaky member of the match as when Charlotte and Tamina are fighting over an unhooked ladder, the Lass Kicker climbs it. She soon finds herself falling with it, but does knock down Flair in the process. Lynch also spends the match offering Bexploders to pretty much all of her opponents.

Tamina ends up being quite the powerhouse in We see a ruthless spear from her, as well boots to people’s faces, as well as a Superfly Splash (from the top rope) and Samoan Drop onto Lynch.

Natalya and Charlotte spend the majority of the match fighting each other. At the top of the ladder, Neidhart is inches away from the briefcase, but after placing another ladder onto Natalya’s ladder, Flair climbs up. It is Carmella that knocks the two of them down however. Neidhart finds a few shining moments as she powerbombs Lynch to the ground aggressively, smashes a ladder into Charlotte, and inserts the Sharpshooter onto Carmella. Her downfall occurs however as she chases Flair into the crowd and the end up fighting there until the end of the match.

Charlotte is also a big star in the match. She boots Natalya in the face, inserts the Natural Selection onto Carmella and has a lot of heated exchanges with Tamina. After feeling the wrath of Snuka, she knocks her down and attempts to trap her between the ladder as she climbs. Carmella then climbs the ladder too, but Snuka gets the better of both of them by lifting up the prop and drops them both onto the ground.

Another poignant moment is when Charlotte, Becky, Tamina and Natalya all climb onto the ladder. However the aggression and weight gets the better of them and they all tip over onto the mat. Carmella soon climbs the ladder on her own, but each woman then returns to lift it up and place it on the side. They then have a quick brawl which knocks down Flair and Snuka. ‘Mella then takes advantage and jumps on both Neidhart and Lynch.

Towards the end of the match, we see Ellsworth run up to the ring as an attempt to get the briefcase down for Carmella, yet again. But unfortunately for him, Becky runs into the ring and tilts the ladder over, leaving Ellsworth landing on the ropes – right in his baby maker! Ouch!

However, despite having the momentum, Lynch finds herself being attacked by Carmella, with a focus on her leg. The Princess of Staten Island knocks a steel chair into her, leaving her knocked out. This then gives Carmella the chance to climb the ladder – which she does – and she ends up taking down the briefcase. Give it up for your Undisputed Miss Money In The Bank!

On Talking Smack, Carmella gloats to Bryan about taking home the briefcase. Despite demanding an apology however, Daniel refuses to give her one. She continues to brag and then insists that when her time to cash in the contract comes, she will become the next SmackDown Women’s champion. She also slates Naomi, saying that all she does is “glow in the dark”. But before anyone can comment on her words, ‘Mella leaves to go celebrate her win!

At another point in the night, we get our other Money In The Bank rematch as Naomi defends her SmackDown Women’s championship against Lana. Before the match begins, Lana attacks Naomi, looking to end the match as early as possible. Naomi insists that she is okay, so the match begins. This is then followed by Lana inserting her Spinebuster. And after a close call, Naomi manages to kick out. The champ then kicks Lana, knocking her down. She then drags her into the corner, inserts a Split-Legged-Moonsault, and takes home the win. Just like that.

Also, this incredible moment is found during the champ’s celebration and it is definitely the highlight:

After the match, Lana is confronted by Dasha Fuentes in the SmackDown Fallout where she is asked to vent her frustrations. However, we see a tearful version of the Ravishing Russian, with no words to share whatsoever.

Our other “segment” of the night is between Maria Kanellis and Mike Kanellis. The two attempt to remind us of their love and journey, but just as the “seven years ago” comment is brought up again, Sami Zayn enters to begin his match with Baron Corbin. Better luck next time, guys!

Thoughts: This is exactly what Money In The Bank should have been. Between a brilliant Ladder match to the champion looking unbeatable, the pay-per-view has pretty much been erased – good riddance!

The night has allowed a bit of redemption for the briefcase, as well as giving Naomi a better title reign. But let’s focus on the latter for the minute.

Naomi needed to look strong as her first few weeks as champ revolved around her getting beat down by and losing to the Welcoming Committee. So, she did need to win here, for her own benefit. Lana could have done with the win however, as she has now had three matches on WWE television and has lost all of them – two being in her rebranded era. This didn’t really do her an awful lot of favours and only made Naomi look strong, though. Which in the long run, may not be the best option, depending on where WWE wants to go with it.

If Lana is to play the role of the resident jobber, which with her green level of abilities would make sense, then this is fine. But if we’re supposed to take her seriously and be angered by her, then this wasn’t the right way to go about it. She also needs to look strong, and being defeated cleanly by Naomi two matches in a row – one of them not even lasting longer than two minutes – didn’t do her much good.

So this is a bit of a tough one to critique. It made the champ look great, meaning that the briefcase holder would have a tough battle later on. But it ended the momentum for a rising star. Personal opinion aside, every character deserves an opportunity. So unless this is a way of bringing in a spoilt brat kind of gimmick of Lana – one where she constantly demands rematches – then her chances of stardom may have crashed and burned. But we’ll see what’ll happen. Either way, I’m glad that the champion is looking strong.

Now onto the main event. What a match!

This contest wasn’t the spotfest we were expecting. We didn’t see the women jumping off of ladders to knock down their opponents as opposed to taking down the briefcase. Instead, they all took every opportunity they could to win the match. And that makes more sense than doing a Moonsault from the top of the ladder just to take one person down.

The point of the match was to exemplify just how desperate these women are to be champion. They saw earlier on how tough their leader is, so they all needed to give it their A-game in order to come out on top. They didn’t care to entertain fans, they cared about the briefcase too much. And so they should be.

Each time one woman climbed the ladder, another jumped into the ring, regardless of how hurt they may have been. And it did wonders for them all; in particular, Carmella.

Throughout the match we saw the Princess of Staten Island become the main target of her opponents. Whenever she would attempt to win, every woman would do what they could to take her down – even if it meant they all had to team together. She was one of the biggest threats here, and it made her look as tough as she needed to be. ‘Mella didn’t exactly come across as the Powerhouse (that was Miss Snuka!) but she came across as threatening. Her conniving ways were at the top of each woman’s mind, and they did all they could to try to take her down. Between running into the ring as soon as she climbed to the third step, to lifting up the ladder and placing it elsewhere. We should also note that they didn’t bother knocking her down here. And it’s because they’re not threatened by her strength, just her mindset. All the women had to do was remove Carmella from proximity of the briefcase and she was out of their hair. Whereas with anyone else, they all immediately tried to knock each other out. And this proved to be their biggest downfall. Every time the other women climbed the ladder, they were fatigued. But Carmella could climb quickly. She wasn’t in the best shape of course, but compared to everyone else she had more stamina.

I also want to point out that Tamina Snuka was – yet again – the star of the match. Her brutal spear, her excellent Superfly Splash, and the power of taking down each of her opponents was most definitely noted. We tend to only see a basic side to Snuka. During her Singles matches she’s only ever allowed to give a boot here and there, a Samoan Drop at one point, and then she’s made to lose. But here, despite losing, she went all out. She had some of the best spots and was definitely the star we always knew she was.

On top of all of this, what made this match so great was the storytelling, as well as the potential for more storytelling in the future. Becky got her comeuppance with Ellsworth, Carmella got to be the sneaky winner a briefcase holder needs to be, Tamina proved to be a Powerhouse, and Charlotte and Natalya gave room for another feud between the two.

Because of Natalya, Charlotte wasn’t able to stop Carmella from taking down the briefcase. Despite the initial objective of trying to take down the briefcase, Neidhart became infuriated with Flair constantly taking her down. Every time she would near the finish line, Charlotte would get in the way. She stopped her attack on Carmella, she climbed the ladder when Natalya was about to win, and she constantly attacked her throughout. So with all of this build, the Queen of Black Harts had enough of Flair, so decided to take her down. Of course this proved to be the wrong thing to do in the end, but it can easily give us another great feud between the two – let’s just hope that Natalya can finally come out on top this time.

Another feud that can follow this is Carmella facing Becky Lynch. If it weren’t for Carmella, Becky could have won the match, and if it weren’t for Becky, Carmella wouldn’t of had needed to struggle to win in the end. Also, I can appreciate the nod to the very first Money In The Bank match back at Wrestlemania 21 here. Just like Carmella did to Becky, Edge slammed a chair against the back of Chris Benoit’s back, allowing the Rated R Superstar to take home the briefcase. Storytelling!

And now, we finally have a clip of a woman at the top of the ladder grabbing the briefcase – hoorah!

All in all, this was a brilliant night for the women. They ruled the show, got (somewhat) redeeming writing, and gave us a classic Money In The Bank match. Of course, the first one will always be reduced to the silly finish, but in the end, we got a great contest and to me, this will always be the real first women’s Money In The Bank Ladder match.

What did you think of the night? Did the right women win? Where do we go from here? Let us know your views in the comments below!

Did you hear those crow chants? The pops for spots? The “this is awesome”? You can’t ignore that WWE. You have the women three main event slots this week, and they sure as hell delivered. They may not have been the best matches ever, but they were effective and they went out there and put it all on the line. Respect and love to each and every one of them!

Good week for Raw and SDL main event with Gauntlet match and MITB Ladder rematch. It’s okay for Carmella winning back the briefcase since Charlotte and Becky can get into title match anytime soon with their popularity without using briefcase to cash in, Carmella may brag with the briefcase for months before she cashes in.

By the way, I met some Raw superstars including Sasha, Alexa, Bayley, Nia, Emma coming out from the hotel in Singapore yesterday.

If they go for Sami Zayn and Mike Kanellis’ feud, Sami may need a woman against Maria, perhaps it’s Becky but I don’t like Becky losing to Maria, unless Becky is continued to feud with Carmella and Ellsworth.

  • DivaLicious?

This MITB match was way better than the first. They had way more time. They preformed great?? I’m never gonna forget that the first ever MITB was Ellsworth though. Nobody will ever forget that. But it was great seeing Carmella sitting at the top of the ladder.

Now I just hopes she hurry up and cash in on Naomi because she is just not cutting it for me at all????? She feels so unimportant to me. Her title reign is boring there is nothing memorable about it. Her mic skills are cringeworthy. Carmella is so on a roll. Mic skills, Ellsworth, controversy, crowd heat etc.. she feels more important than Naomi. And Naomi is the champ. It says a lot Carmella is being treated like the champion. While Naomi is just there.

    • BLKLTR05

Carmella is being built up. That’s the only reason she feels more important but Naomi is just getting started. This MITB match needed to be done with so the focus could once again be on the champ.

      • DivaLicious?

And when ever the focus is on Naomi she fails horribly. I just can’t get into her. She seems so corny to me. Promos are cringe ? The ghetto slang that she use “snatch you bold” is getting old and not relatable to WWE universe. They gotta write better stuff for her.

        • BLKLTR05

According to you she fails miserably. She has been killing it in her matches and get promos. Just because you don’t like her promos does not mean she’s failing. You’re right about the writers though, they do need to write better stuff for her not stereotypical hood girl slang but again, that’s not her fault. At least with Naomi we’ll be getting good matches as opposed to subpar wrestling from Carmella.

        • Crazy. #RIPMae

          Ghetto slang. ???

        • Organization XIII

Not relatable but the crowd pops almost every time ?

  • Rob G
    • BLKLTR05

What’s wrong with Natalya? I thought she did amazing!

      • Rob G

she stopped every 3 seconds to look at the briefcase, her climbing was weird and she did a submission hold on a ladder match? Like, really??

        • shumiley

it was to keep the opponent down. legs are useful in a ladder match and she targeted the legs with the sharpshooter.

        • BLKLTR05

The submission was to take Carmella’s legs out which was effective btw. It was a good cover for Carmella not doing much. As for the climbing, yeah that was weird but same could be said for the rest of the women.

        • John Finnie

Gail did the leg rap on taryn on the ladder its so the legs are hurt so they can’t climb the ladder

    • GOD STRATUS•

      Ok lol

  • BLKLTR05

That match was great! Most of the women did fantastic, Carmella being the one who didn’t. But in the end she won and that only adds to her heat. And if that was thebobjectibe all along then great! I still feel like Carmella needs to push further. She kind of held back in her attacks on Lynch with the chair and she should have gone full force with it. Becky, Charlotte and Mattie all did fucking amazing, as expected but TAMINA fucking sold me IT! She was amazing throughout and if she added just two or three more power moves, she could easily be the champ. Right now her moveset is too limited but man she looked PHENOMENAL! That superbly splash was nothing to write home about, she has performed this move much better in the past, but it was still impactful. All in all great fucking night for the women!

  • conan_kun
  • Rob G

Good match, Tamina showed out again and the right person won, even though there was no real ladder spots the match had its memorables moments, my only complainment is Natalya senseless sharpshooter and weird climbing.

    • BLKLTR05

The submission was to take Carmella’s legs out which was effective btw. It was a good cover for Carmella not doing much. As for the climbing, yeah that was weird but same could be said for the rest of the women.if they had had more spots, people would complain it was a spot fest and that that isn’t the purpose of a ladder match.

      • GOD STRATUS•

First of all the sharpshooter isn’t a leg submission…. For true wrestling fans … Dk why nattie even uses it in that way.

        • BLKLTR05

Really it isn’t? Then why do the girls sell it as such? Always grabbing their knees and legs as well as their backs. Better tell the girls so they can learn to sell the sharpshooter properly!

          • GOD STRATUS•

If nattie uses it as a leg submission they sell it as one.. but to illuminate the sharpshooter is a body/lower back submission… If you need further evidence than my word. Do some research from the Hart family simply by using the search engine on the WWE Network & if you don’t have it I’d suggest you get it to inform you of the stance you have as untrue… Or play as nattie in the 2k boo and tell me which body part it attacks…

          • BLKLTR05

Don’t have to do any of the things you told me because you basically agreed with what I am saying. “If Mattie uses it as a leg submission they sell it as one” which is what they did with it last night. Also, don’t use the game mechanics as evidence of anything. In 2k17, Trish’s Stratusfaction affects the chest rather than the neck and head.

          • GOD STRATUS•

As I stated … I DONT KNOW why nattie uses it that way.

          • BLKLTR05

You don’t have to know why she does anything. Stop overanalyzing it and enjoy it. She used her sharpshooter to incapacitate Carmella’s legs so that they could cover Carmella’s lack of ability and protect her. Simple as that.

          • GOD STRATUS•

Hb you stop harrassing me about my opinion.

          • BLKLTR05

Boom! Thanks for admitting it was just your OPINION… I don’t need to analyze shit because you did it for me.

          • GOD STRATUS•

No no no ma’am my stance on the sharpshooter is final. The only thing you’ve won is the participation award so consider this conversation retired. Much like inability to keep the language above board…

  • GOD STRATUS•

The woman. On raw got like double the ring time I honestly was surprised by that but then again once I saw the match ….. They had more ladder spots in the first one…. Like anyway … Congrats ladies on making history again …. Uhm and

    Naomi looked fantastic…..
Becky doesn’t do it for me….

    • shumiley

it makes sense for the raw women to get more time considering it’s a gauntlet. in the mitb, every woman is competing at once whereas the gauntlet is only two at a time.

      • GOD STRATUS•

They got 13 mins at the ppv and 17 mins last night….. Not enough time for ladder matches simple

        • BLKLTR05

They got way more than 17 minutes, What are toubtalkimg about? Just because it wasn’t all televised doesn’t mean that they just sat around waiting for the commercials to end. You’re just looking for something to complain about.

          • GOD STRATUS•

They got 17 mins boo. And I never complained about it …. I was just surprised as I stated furthermore I went onto say ” then I saw the match ” … Implying that hell even if they were given more time that really was the BEST they could do…. If you must know , know correct…

          • BLKLTR05

Oh honey, Take your own advice honey, from the beginning of the entrances which took up all of 5 minutes to the bell signaling the end of the match and the end of the show itself honey , it was 25-30 minutes including commercials honey. I watched it live honey, and I remember very vividly thinking that damn, this was a long ass match! I already knew Carmella was going to win because the mods on here don’t give a fuck about the West coast and out three hour delay and posted spoilers and I changed the channel to USA at 9:30 when Charlotte’s music hit and she walked out to the ring.

          • GOD STRATUS•

“in ring time” …. Honey ?

          • BLKLTR05

??? obviously somebody doesn’t know how to tell time. Its ok, go ask your mommy, maybe she’ll explain.

          • GOD STRATUS•

Tried it. But your tired and don’t even know it… Pity

          • BLKLTR05

Might also wanna ask her about punctuation and grammar. It’s “you’re” btw and yeah it is a pity

          • PYM #TakeoverSmackdown

According to Boris, it was 24 and some odd seconds. It was definitely more than 17 mins.

          • GOD STRATUS•

The segment was about 22 mins … With 17 mins & some change of ring work from bell to bell.

          • Yes, 24:30, 17 without commercials.

        • shumiley

fourth longest MITB match though, if i’m not mistaken. and there have been matches since mania 21…

          • GOD STRATUS•

I go on to explain why the time didn’t matter ?

        • The match was 24:30 minutes.

          • GOD STRATUS•

            Lol girl

  • PhiPhiBanks

    Carmella was the right choice.

Carmella was star of the night.

    Tamina star of the match.

Lana and Naomi’s match should be erased from the history books. Lana is terrible and it just made her look weaker.
Naomi as champion hasn’t been an enjoyable experience. The writers have made her an after thought.

    • :(( I hate that’s how I’ve felt about her title run too

      • PhiPhiBanks

Now that the MITB mess is out of the way they need to build Naomi up as a strong champion. Put the focus back on her. She does afterall have the very championship that these women were fighting tooth and nail to get an opportunity at.

Keep Lana away from her and the other women.

        • BLKLTR05

The MITB match was exactly why the focus wasn’t on Naomi so now that it’s over I’m sure it’ll be back on her. I agree about Lana though she needs a lot more time and more matches to get up to par.

    • Miguel Orona Rodríguez

Naomi hasn’t been the center of the division while being champion but her rise to the belt was enjoyable and her matches with Charlotte left me wanting more. The problem with SD is wanting to feature everyone. I hope that Carmella’s MITB storyline will put more focus on the champion as well. Thats the only way to really feel something when Naomi looses it.

  • BitchFit

I live for that girl clapping after Naomi’s match. Should have made it a bit longer and hard fought though..

  • i would want Char & Nattie to go into a little solo feud based off them fighting in the crowd. Carmella, yes! She is going to be a monster on the mic.
Naomi squashed Lana as she should lol but her reign has been blah but longest reigning doe :)

  • PYM #TakeoverSmackdown

Carmella hands down was the star of the match, night, my life (jk), but I’m so happy for her! She soooo deserves this, she’s basically the queen of the underdogs rn. Dana, Emma, hell, I’ll include Mickie even though she’s here to put over the newer talent, but they should all be treated the same way Carmella is being treated on Raw. First woman and the only person tied with CM Punk to win back-to-back MITB matches, also one of the only people to do it twice. That in itself is a huge accolade. Carmella has come such a long way and I’m so glad she was the one to do it. My queen Charlotte has accomplished a lot already so I’m not at all disappointed. Carmella also deserves to be SD Women’s champion so if Charlotte wins the title in the future and Carmella just so happens to cash in her title and pick up the pieces I will be okay with it when and if that happens. You deserve it, Carmella!!

  • Don ?

There’s something about Daniel Bryan that rubs me the wrong way. I don’t know what it is.

    • PoisonFelino#Watermelondrea

He’s supposed to be a face but he always is so smug that you can’t help but to sometimes feel sympathy for the heels he’s interacting with.

      • Don ?

I think that’s it. Plus now that he’s returned, I realize his presence wasn’t missed at all when he was gone.

SDL can make every woman including Carmella, Tamina looked great, but Raw failed to make Emma, Dana, Mickie, Alicia looked credible. Hope Lana won’t get any more title match but it seems like she’s getting 3rd title match considering this tweet, they should give her some matches against local competitors.

    • PYM #TakeoverSmackdown

I’m here for this! HER SHOULDER WAS UP!!!!!

    • Crazy. #RIPMae

She’s just being desperate like a normal heel. I’m sure that was just a mistake anyways. Hopefully we can get Naomi vs Tamina at BG in a long match.

    • BLKLTR05

Lana needs to become a stalker kind of character and stalk Naomi. Come down to ringside every match she gets. She needs to be in the locker room stalking her. Lana needs to get into Naomis head and either cost her the title or win it off her. This would allow Naomi to still feud with other women and put on good matches while Lana is built up as well.

      • PYM #TakeoverSmackdown

Oh, I like this. Lana could align herself with Carmella. Carmella could promise Lana that when/if she cashes in the briefcase and gets the title she’ll be number one contender or something like that. Even though we kinda just saw this with Nia and Alexa’s partnership, even Mickie and Alexa’s partnership involved this; I still think it could keep Lana relevant by doing something realistic to how WWE does their storylines.

        • BLKLTR05

IDK if Lana should be aligned with anyone to be honest. She should be kept as Naomi’s stalker on the hunt for Naomi’s destruction so she can get her hands on the title. Let other women feud with Naomi, wrestle Naomi, destroy her per se BUT never pin Naomi in a Championship match because in her eyes, that Championship belongs to her and she should be the one to take it from Naomi. At least that’s the way I see it.

      • John Finnie

Lana needs to stop Carmella cashing in because its naomi she wants the title from

  • Crazy. #RIPMae

Judging by the ending we’re gonna get Becky vs Carmella, Nattie vs Charlotte and hopefully we can get Tamina vs Naomi.

    • Tamina vs Naomi would write itself tbh; especially since they have history being a part of Team B.A.D. (and the fact that their related through marriage).

      • Crazy. #RIPMae

Exactly. They need to start a storyline between Tamina and Naomi. It’ll be cool maybe even involve The Usos. Naomi can question Jimmy and be like are you gonna choose your cousin or your wife? Jimmy as a heel chooses Tamina as Naomi looks on shook and that’s when The New Day can get incorporated to even the odds. It’ll definitely be a fun story tbh. In the end, I’ll have Naomi retain after a long battle with Tamina. Maybe even have Carmella TRY to cash in but Becky stops her.

  • Crazy. #RIPMae

Tamina was the star of the match last night.

  • Allyn

Ugh I love Naomi and Lana wish the program was longer but based on lanas tweet maybe this feud isn’t over……i don’t know I just don’t see Lana as bad as everyone else does I’m enjoying her, yes she needs improvement but she is not as terrible as some are saying. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4d39153ff839e81579f3e2c2bb7bdc53b33e0028b1fe5fcf1153a503c21395da.png

The MITB match was on par with the first one but this commercial breaks were killing me lol. and the finish was what should have happened the first time!!!! I’m glad Carmella still won she needs this.

    • PoisonFelino#Watermelondrea

I honestly think Lana is promising. Hating on Lana has just become the new “cool thing ” to do since before her in-ring return.
People just hate on her for the sake of it. For someone as inexperienced she’s doing well and I’m looking forward to see what she brings in the future. I’m already happy she doesn’t use “generic moveset #3”

As for the MITB match I liked this one more than the first one but it was basically the same match with different sequences. There are still not many memorable and unique ladder spots.
And yeah the outcome was what should’ve happened in the first place.

      • Allyn

Right!!! I’m still rooting for her ??

        • PoisonFelino#Watermelondrea

Same! Omg that’s the new official Lana emoji ?

          • Allyn

            Right!!! Haha so her!!

    • conan_kun

If Lana asked for title shot again, other women should intervene and say that Lana had 2 free title shots already but failed to win, so they want title shot too.

      • Allyn

yeah now that the other women are finished with the MITB storyline this could work, although it seems like there are already some other planned feuds brewing from the way the match ended this week, but we shall see

  • Maddox

It’s funny that everyone is saying the match was “brilliant” or “classic”. If the men had this exact match, it would be remembered as the weakest ladder match ever but I guess it okay since they are women huh? Yet you want the women to be equal to the men. Anyway am glad Carmella won

    • PYM #TakeoverSmackdown

That’s exactly why. Because they are women. The women can’t do the same spots as the men. Women’s bodies produce less muscle than men’s, that’s a fact. If they were to do the same spots the men do in ladder matches they could face injuries that would potentially put them on the shelf for a long time and I don’t think it would be a good idea for Smackdown to injure five of their women in one match. Even though Charlotte is indestructible, she’s still a woman and her body as well as anyone else involved has it’s limits.

      • Maddox

So basically, it was a great match by women’s standard. Haven’t seen the last man standing match between Nikki and Asuka but I heard it was great with crazy spots. That’s what I was hoping for the women’s MITB. Notmkilling themselves but some memorable moments

        • PYM #TakeoverSmackdown

Yes it did have a few crazy moments. It ended with Asuka suplexing Nikki off a ladder onto the onto the announcer’s table. But the ladder they used wasn’t as tall as the ones used on the MR.

        • Wrestling.fan.from.France

“it was a great match by women’s standard” Precisely and it’s kind of sad, thinking about it.

          • Sable’s Bumps

            sad but a reality.

        • John Finnie

Go watch it was great….. dare i say on par with the Sasha Bayley iron woman match But with more hardhitting stiff moves

    • It’s still a novelty for women. Once they do more of them the comparisons will be made and the hype of it will fade away.

    • #MirandaCosgroveVSAsukaWM34

They don’t have a high-flyer girl like Naomi or even a Gail Kim for nice spots, but the girls did great as they could.

  • Vid Trim

“Carmella wouldn’t of had needed to struggle to win in the end”… I know you’re not professional writers here but I think it’s fair to expect that there would be no grammar errors in your articles, especially ones that even non-native speakers (like me) can easily pick out.

    • shumiley

Where’s the grammatical error in that quote

      • Vid Trim

“Wouldn’t of had” doesn’t mean shit..

        • Sable’s Bumps

yes it does. it means she would not have had to do something.

          • Vid Trim

Heh, it’s still incorrect. Try writing “would of” on an essay and see how your English teacher would react.

  • Sarona

The writer for this article is horrible

    • If you don’t like it go to another website, and keep your shitty opinions to yourself. No one made you come to this site.

    • Aye Mate

      Constructive.

  • Sass.

Loved Smackdown this week. I like Naomi as the fighting Champion they’ve painted her as the last few weeks, wish it was like this throughout her reign. That little girl supporting Naomi brought a tear to my eye. What WWE superstars do is so important, especially to kids. Representation baby!

I really enjoyed the MITB ladder match, and the right woman won! I hope Carmella holds on to the briefcase for a number of months, teasing cash-ins. She needs to win the Smackdown Women’s Championship at the right moment, as the first woman to ever cash-in. Side-note: I might’ve said it after the MITB PPV, but this really is Carmella’s best look. She looks beautiful and it fits her character perfectly.

  • Wrestling.fan.from.France

    Lana vs Naomi happened. Next…

The MITB ladder match was much better than the first one largely due to them getting more time. However, it was a little above average MITB ladder match. Lacked extreme spots, memorable ones that will leave fans talking about them while thinking about this match. This lacked ladder spots essentially. One of the most “extreme” moment of the match was Carmella’s chair shot to Becky but I was so weak… It’s like she was afraid to hit hard. Not to say that match wasn’t entertaining because it was and got people involved but honestly, I wasn’t exactly blown away by the action and neither by the storytelling (but it was fine).
Plus, Carmella winning made it all stupid. Not to say that she wasn’t the best choice because she was but at the same time, why do it again? Should have kept it on her in first place. Made the first MITB ladder match pointless and this match pointless as well.

Now, one obvious feud after that would be Carmella vs Becky but now, they have to put the title back at the center of attention because it took a backseat for too long. They will have to established a new #1 contender even if, logically, the new one will be one of the losers from the MITB.

  • Victoria&Melina19

The mitb match was better than the first one since it got more time. But to me definitely lacked memorable moments, but that could just be me since I have always enjoyed watching ladder matches and tlc matches and they are my fabpvourite types of matches.
Carmella was obviously the right choice and hoping Naomi can now have a serious feud.

  • Rosanna

Carmella first win was better than the second win. The first match in my opinion was better than the second match.

I like Lana at least she has a moveset and a decent finisher and she was great ring awareness. Some of you guys don’t like her because of her actives outside of the ring so y’all don’t give her credit inside the ring. She wrestle fine to me and you know what dare I say it? Better than some of the old women’s wrestlers back in the day.

  • Organization XIII

That Superfly Splash was not excellent lol She literally just dropped from the turnbuckle lol But she was the MVP yet again. & it’s funny seeing ppl praise her when y’all have been tearing down for years. Glad Mella got the win. She’s the best option to hold that briefcase.

& Naomi really is showing the world thou can be agood champion thru perseverance & determination. All those comments of she’ll only be a flavor of the month. Or she’ll never get over. & here she is still getting consistent reactions & more importantly displaying the representation WWE so desperately lacked. Kudos to Naomi for being a part of that. I know it has to be gratifying for her

    • BLKLTR05

I tore Naomi down for years because she hadn’t proven how good she could be but in these two matches, she really impressed me so I have to give props where props are due. If she continues this upward trajectory in her wrestling then I would be happy about it but if she flounders back to what she was before these matches then I’m going to voice that opinion as well.

      • Organization XIII

She was doing great during her heel era.

  • Nadia

This was not very good. The ladies seem so hesitant to take bumps/spots and the biggest bump/spot came from Ellsworth. I thought at least Charlotte would do do something cool at least. It was just a let down honestly. Carmella was the right winner though. She is going to be an awesome Ms. Money In the Bank.

  • The opening segment was great and Carmella proved herself as a heel once again after the victory. She’s going to be even bigger heel now.

The ratings slightly increased as well so whatever they did was well planned.

  • I think they did title squash to show how Naomi can survive a possible cash in from Carmella. Lana’s attack represented the cash in very much and Naomi still overcame the odds, so it’s good that she’s looking strong at least.

  • Also Naomi is killing it with this reign even though she hasn’t got much shine
    – Longest reigning SD Women’s champion
    – Most title defenses in one reign
    – First SD WC to successfully defend the title in a PPV match
    – First to win the title at WM

    • BLKLTR05

      Loved that part!

  • Peta

I think if I will also base it to the fallout video interview (Lana not saying anything and just tearful), Lana losing is their route to make her face. Like a storyline of a woman trying to prove something by being tough and thought she could get away with what she wants but reality kicks in that she’s not yet ready and so on and so forth. This could lead to Lana losing singles match and creating her as a face who will soon prove her worth by working hard. So yeah, if making her Face is their route for her, then Naomi winning in a clean, fast fashion was the great idea. It builded a character profile for Lana as some point. But if they will keep Lana as Heel, then it was off to make her look weak.

    • GOD STRATUS•

      Second this

  • FANTASTIC SD Live this week Loved iiiiiiiit

  • Why was Lana crying? Where is that going to go?

  • Aye Mate

I actually thought the MITB redo was intelligently done. In many ways the significance of it set the women up for impossible scrutiny.

  • John Finnie

Can you all believe NOT ONCE but TWICE did the fans shout “this is awsome” after Tamina was MVPing both MITB match…… come on bitches who would have thought a year ago that chant was aimed at Tamina & Co
Now if mella is getting rewarded for her hard work then WWE better reward miss MVP with a title WIN
That spear Tamina girl i have yet to see anyone in the womans division do it so brutal….. keep it as a signature or a new finnisher
All woman did great but i liked this match better

Becky you have saved the world from a fate worse than death by killing Jame’s little swimmers

    • BLKLTR05

I have to admit, I have never been particularly fond of Tamina. Always seemed like she was there because of name power and thats it BUT she proved her worthiness in these matches. I just hope that she continues to show that aggressiveness in her one on one matches and adds more power moves. If Nia is using Samoan Drops then there really isn’t any reason why Tamina should be using them as well.

      • Raekon

Everyone with a samoan heritage is using the samoan drop in the wwe.
That’s why it’s not exclusive to one person but to all samoans hired there.
The main difference between Nia and the others is that Nia is using it as a finisher while Tamina and the Usos are using it only as a signature move. :)
What bothers me about Tamina is that she has a lot more moves under her sleeve, yet they are allowing her to do only like 4 moves in her regular matches and then Job to everyone clean or by rollup.
I really hope they change their ways with her now and let her shine instead of wasting her!

  • YonceLuvsDivas

Wow can you believe it? We had three women’s main event! All of them slayed! The MITB was good but this past Tuesday’s was much better!! I swear this is a great time be Women’s wrestling fan in WWE!

  • Bryskers

Considering these women never worked with ladders before MITB, I’d give them some slack for not doing more ladder spots. It would have been nice for sure, but maybe our expectations were too high on this one (thinking about it, a splash or a moonsault on top of a shaky ladder would have been extremely dangerous.)
I thought the redo was already way better than the first one, and they still managed to pull off some creative ways to use the ladders (like when then carried the ladder with Carmella on it, or what Becky did). For me it was a very good showing, and not even by women’s standards.

    • Aye Mate

Also, has anyone really taken into consideration that the women had worked a MITB only 9 days before? They’re not superhuman.

  • Miguel Orona Rodríguez

Ok, SmackDown did have another good show, specially for the women, however the MITB match re-match didn’t really do it for me.

    1. The women involved didn’t provided really big spots using the stipulation. If you have watched any MITB match that took place before, you know that usually the signature moves are used with the ladder to add more damage. The MITB match is usually a very dangerous, brutal match and this didn’t got there. I don’t think it was better than Gail Kim vs Tayrin Terrell and the whole division was involved there.

    2. For some reason, WWE main roster women keep playing this stupid roles where they can’t stand each other to the point they aren’t smart. The spot were Carmella did a cross body to Tamina & Charlotte was STUPID. Everyone looked dumb so Carmella could look crafty, the delivery was horrible. I was suprised nobody went outside of the ring from the ladder, that’s one of the cool spots of the match.

    3. Carmella is still the best choice to win, I don’t think anyone was more fit for the stipulation. Usually a sneaky heel wins.

    4. Naomi looking dominant over Lana is what MITB PPV needed to be. Lana not winning 2 matches in a roll against the champion doesn’t hurt her. She was being promoted as someone that lacks of experience and didn’t earned her shot because it is actually true. She can only grow from here, she can earn experience working with Becky, Charlotte, Natalya & Tamina.

  • Don’t let all of this distract you from the fact that Naomi holds both the shortest AND longest reigns for the SmackDown! Women’s Championship; as well as being tied for the most title reigns.

    • BLKLTR05

LOVE ME SOME NINA BONINA OSAMA BIN LADEN BROWN!!!! She is so magical! and Yeah, I have not forgotten that lil tid bit about Naomi.

  • SW

This match didnt make lana look weak. Tbh, she doesnt come from a wrestling background and she has only been wrestling for about a year and a half. People eat her up, she could come out there ina diaper and we would be like “lana, your leg is beautiful” ???

  • MK126

Slightly off topic but its reported that Mella is replacing Paige on TD. You guys think this season will show the MITB PPV/ this past match or nah?

  • Crazy. #RIPMae

Becky and Carmella should def feud and have Becky trying to stop Carmella from cashing in every chance she’s got. Carmella offers Lana to help her take down Becky so Carmella can successfully cash in without Becky trying to ruin her moment. Carmella finally cashes in as Lana attacks Becky. Carmella wins the title and celebrates with Lana as Becky looks on the outside pissed that another girl became champion and not her. This would start a feud between Lana and Becky while Carmella starts a storyline with Naomi.

  • A part of me kinda wants Becky to feud with Ellsworth. I know it probably won’t happen due to the whole PG thing, but that would be interesting to see; especially since it’d make sense for the storyline of getting rid of Ellsworth and stopping him for helping Carmella.

  • wwepassion

Good match and the right person won, Carmella I can see already is taking the ball and running. She is already getting nods from legends just imagine when she gets more experience in wwe. The Lana vs Naomi match was embarrassing, we have a weak non star champion and a opponent green AF who should have spent her time in NXT doing takeover matches to get that experience. Lana would make a better champ than Naomi because she has more charisma, mic skills and a bigger fanbase but she needs to earn her spot first and get more comfortable in her new role. The championship is weak AF, it should be held by a star but at the same time it’s not all Naomi’s fault. The writers clearly aren’t really behind her and don’t seem to wanna give her someone above her because they don’t want her to beat them so they throw her Lana? K….

    • BLKLTR05

That’s not the case at all. The focus was the MITB match and it has been that way for a while. They had all of their other women involved in that match so they used Lana as fodder for Naomi but now that that’s over, they’ll most likely be giving Naomi other challengers at her level. Naomi isn’t the problem, its the timing.

      • wwepassion

Naomi is part of the problem in terms of not being a star power house. The writer IMO aren’t trying hard with her and will not let her beat anyone clean who is considered a big star.

    • Naomi has fanbase and star power, what are you watching?

      • wwepassion

I said Lana has a bigger fanbase and no Naomi does not have star power what are you watching?

        • Where? Naomi has new merch coming out every other week and has great reactions all the time. She’s made it. Lana is not there at all.

          • wwepassion

Great reactions? Her reactions die each weak stop reaching. Lana had bigger pops than her and always has. Naomi had her deserved reign but she is not a star and you are delusional if you think she’s a huge star. Not everyone who is champ and has merch will become stars. Even jobbers of some men have merch so that doesn’t mean you are a mega star.

          • You’re watching the wrong shows because she CLEARLY gets huge pops, especially during the formal introductions. Naomi gets new merch EVERY other week, something jobbers don’t. She’s at the top, she’s over and popular, no need to deny it.

          • wwepassion

That reaction is your selective hearing, you know damn well her reaction dies each week. She has been an after thought so what exactly do you expect? She is not a star and that’s the truth. You have become delusional like the rest.

          • What I said were facts, the reactions nor new merch aren’t lying. Period.

          • wwepassion

Facts in your head. You know the truth but you are stubborn
