GLOW nominated for several awards

GLOW is riding a new wave of success after receiving not one, but several high profile award nominations.

The series is boasting a tie for most nominations for the 24th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

GLOW is receiving best comedy and stunt nominations for the ensemble, as well as comedy actress for Alison Brie and comedy actor for Marc Maron.

“The nominations are such a cherry on top of what has already been an incredible treat of being part of an outstanding cast and crew,” said Kia Stevens, aka Awesome Kong in the ring and Tammé “The Welfare Queen” Dawson in GLOW. “I’m especially proud of the Stunts nomination as 90% of our cast does 100% of their own stunts thanks to the care and wisdom of Chavo Guerrero, Jr. and Shauna Duggins.”

She’s also proud of Alison Brie for her Golden Globe nomination and Betty Gilpin’s Critic’s Choice nomination.

“Betty Gilpin, Betty Gilpin, Betty Gilpin, Betty Gilpin…. boy do I have an acting crush on one Betty Gilpin,” said Stevens. “There aren’t many things that intimidate me in life. However, working a scene with Betty would usually send butterflies in my tummy (yes, I, Kong just said tummy) because I’d flub my lines having been caught staring, mouth open, mesmerized by Betty’s performance. Throw in the fact that she’s one of the most humble and down to earth human beings I’ve ever met makes the nominations ever so sweet. I used to be skeptical of actors that said ‘It’s an honor just to be nominated’.. turns out it REALLY IS… who knew!”

Though previously nominated for two Satellite Awards one for Best Acress and another for Best Television Series, the major awards attention came for GLOW from the Broadcast Television Journalists Association on Dec. 6 when it nominated the show for four key Critics Choice Awards: comedy series, comedy actress (for Alison Brie), supporting comedy actress (for Betty Gilpin), and supporting comedy actor (for Marc Maron).

The series is also nominated for Writers Guild Awards for Best Comedy Series and New Series and a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Alison Brie.

The cast is currently in the midst of filming for Season 2 of the show.
