Awesome Kong Punches Bubba the Love Sponge?

Controversial radio host and TNA personality, Bubba the Love Sponge revealed on his radio show this morning that Knockout Awesome Kong punched him in the face after his disgusting comments about the tragedy in Haiti. The incident took place at yesterday’s Impact taping and resulted in Bubba being sent home.

As has been well documented here at Diva Dirt, Kong has been a driving force in the wrestling community in raising funds for Haiti. transcribes Bubba as saying:

She was wearing wrestling gear, and she came in on me and sucker punched me right on my left cheek, and I was like, what’s going on… then she came out me again, hit me again in the mouth, and she goes, ‘This if for Haiti! This is for Haiti!’ and I’m like ‘What is going on?’ Finally I put my left hand out and push her away from me, and she comes at me again and I just cover up, because I cannot fight back on a woman. Not only will I be fired from TNA, which I probably am, but my radio career is gone if I take a woman out!

We’ve been working with Kong over the weekend and I can’t tell you enough just how amazing and kind-hearted this woman is, she worked tirelessly for days to put Wrestlers 4 Haiti together and then someone in her own company shits all over it. I don’t condone ‘real’ violence but I can’t say I don’t blame her knowing what she’s done for Haiti on top of continuing her busy wrestling schedule with TNA house shows.

UPDATE: It appears that new TNA head honcho [kinda], Hulk Hogan was on the show with Bubba and had the following to say — suggesting that some people backstage thought Kong should have been fired immediately after the incident:

I tell you what, after what happened, if you had clocked her you’d have got away with it. What nobody knows, and this is the real truth, that there were certain people there… she should get off the property, she should be fired immediately, that’s it. It was so violent. You could have actually lost an eye, you could have had your teeth knocked out. But, to give you your creedo, you are the one who said not to fire her.

UPDATE #2: is reporting that Kong, as well as Bubba, was sent home from the taping yesterday. TNA had pencilled in a six Knockout tag team match between Kong, Hamada and Tara vs The Beautiful People but the match was later scrapped and they filmed a different match instead. For spoilers for the show click here.

We have nothing but the utmost love and respect for Kong and hope this matter is resolved quickly so she can going back to what she does best, entertaining fans.

    Kong rules xD

  • Tee

If she really punched him, than she’s even more awesome than I thought!

  • Matt

I’d lol if they fired Awesome Kong to keep such an unsavory, repulsive slimeball on board. Just one more rotation around the bowl for TNA.

  • Kaledrina

he’s probably over exaggerating a bit, he seems that type, but it’s no less than he deserves i guess.

i think that kong not getting sent home says a lot. perhaps she can punch dixie next and say the majority of fans want the old ring back or not to call the fans “cast members”??

  • theregoeskitty

good he’s a right A hole, i would have punched him too, its not like hes that great or anything i didn’t even realize 3D were both still in the company till this all appeared

  • PedroPedroso17

Kong is one fierce lady, she quickly became my favourite personality in the wrestling industry, there’s something that screams kindness about her and I just love to watch women in control of a situation, this was obviously not the case and I don’t think reacting like she did was a good idea, but she’s fighting for a cause and that dick had it comming.

  • deltaqueen

I don’t normally condone violence & I doubt he was gonna lose an eye, a tooth maybe, but after his comments on Haiti I feel no sympathy for him whatsoever. He’s got a bruised face while tens of thousands of people are dead or dying. He’s a prick & as for his “apology”, I guess he could have sounded less sincere if he’d tried. I think he said it to keep his job.

  • SweetSanny

I’m on Kong’s side! He deserved it!

  • nala310

I hope this is not just another dumb angle, as Bubba really deserved it. If they fire Kong over this, I hope the rest of the Knockouts walk out in protest, along with some of the guys. TNA is just falling apart so fast, and it’s sad. I think Kong did, what so many others wanted to do.

  • Matt reporting that Kong got sent home as well.

This screams work to me. Though I’d guess it comes from a real place. Bubba screwed up royally with his hateful comments on Twitter about Haiti. TNA can either fire him, ignore it or make it an angle. I think they chose angle.

Yesterday on his Twitter, Bubba stated that he was called and not to come to the production meeting at 11am. He further wrote that he was heading home and his agent was going to handle this mess. So by his own Twitter words, he shouldn’t have been at the taping to get punched.

Also having read the Impact spoilers, Awesome Kong didn’t wrestle. If she was there, why would she have been in her wrestling gear?

Hogan is supposed to be a fan of Awesome Kong as he stated when he first signed with TNA. Now he is saying she is lucky not to be fired. This is Hogan putting one of his favourite in the spotlight and doing damage control from Bubba’s stupid comments.

If it’s somehow real and she did punch him, I think like most situations in wrestling, the immediate thought was how can we turn this into an angle? So either way I don’t believe a word coming from Bubba. He’s already doing an angle on his Twitter acting like Jeremy Borash really got fired so he’s not reliable to me at all.

  • MrMiracle

Although I loathe Bubba and am a great fan of Kong, IF it happened like he says, physical violence like this should lead to Kong getting fired.

  • Ryo Saeba

what do you say mr miracle?.Bubba deserved that.

  • Cyndi

why fire someone who been a big contribution to the company

who the fuck wants to listen to that Bloated fat slob

and the only reason why Hogan said all that is Bubba is a pal

lol i think we need to all come to the conclusion that Hogan doesn’t have that much swing in the company as were led to believe

  • Ana_Nattie_rules

Even though Bubba is an ass, he shouldn’t be fired for giving his opinion on Twitter, As far as i know everybody as freedom of speech and he didn’t say that on a live show.

Anyways, he’s still a jerk and Kong still rules. Lets just hope she doesn’t get punished or whatever for punching an asshole

  • Looking Glass

A lot of people have said this is a work angle, working in with the current Borash storyline. However, Bubba needs to be fired, okay he has his opinion, but really the Haiti disaster isn’t one of those things which there’s two sides to, he has a right to an opinion, but when he is representing a company that relies on trying to gain good rep, then he’s really not the man for the job. Then Hogan wants her fired? You have to look at it from the basics, would she have done it if he hadnt said it? No, it was him who loaded the gun and shot it himself, Kong shouldn’t be punished for standing up for thousands who have lost their lives.

  • Lita-Sault-666

You are all wrong, he has his own opinion on the matter just like everyone does, and everyone has the rite to voice their them too. I’m not going to both donating towards Haiti and yes i can aford it – Does that make me a bad person? Nope.
From a young age, children are raised to learn to respect other peoples views and not to bash people for their beliefs but to try and understand them. So I suggest a lot of you go back Infant School/Kindergarden & start all over again.

    • Melanie

Lita-Sault-666 — It’s one thing to have an opinion and it’s another to make offensive comments such as ‘Fuck Haiti’. He could have easily said his opinion without the blatant offense. It stops being an opinion and becomes hate speech.

To be so indifferent to other people’s suffering is disgusting.

  • Mikas

“Even though Bubba is an ass, he shouldn’t be fired for giving his opinion on Twitter, As far as i know everybody as freedom of speech and he didn’t say that on a live show.”

He shouldnt be fired for giving his opinion, but he does need to be fired for giving TNA a bad name. TNA has lots of ambitions, and you cant have a second rate shockjock say things like that when your company is actively organising some support for Haiti.

I’m curious where this goes. Remember the Roxxi-Rhaka Khan incident? Both were suspended for awhile. But i dont think they will go that far, that would destroy the tagteam division.

  • Ana_Nattie_rules

Btw, the punch had its effects. He already apologized for what he said.

  • Ana_Nattie_rules

Mikas: Yeah I understand your point. I said that, because its one right granted to everyone.

  • rosarocks

kong is amazing and i respect her but i dont think her actions were called for. i really hope she doesnt get fired for the fans’ sake but she had to have known there’d be consequences to what she did :( i feel sorry for her more than anything.

as for bubba he is a tool and like melanie said his words are hate speech. @lita-sault-666 frankly ur comment offends me & who are u to tell us what we should do? screw u.

  • KunindSingh

I don’t care what bubba said Kong had no right to hit him

  • JuicyJuiceBox

We don’t know if it/how much is true so there’s little point in assuming. I will say that if the events went down as we read them here, it would’ve been more commendable for Kong to treat this situation with a little bit more class.

  • shannymac

Bubba is a talentless, insensitive hack who has deserved to get his teeth knocked out for years. Maybe it was wrong to physically attack someone at work, but I’m with Kong on this one. Take his stupid ass out, girl!
