Welcome to Diva Debates, the biggest battle since David and Goliath, Buffy and vampires, Trish and Lita… we present to you, Erin vs Melanie! In Diva Debates, we will battle it out for your vote - giving you two sides to a Diva argument. Once you’ve read both of our arguments, you can vote for who you agree with the most, the blogger with the most votes wins!
Last time on Diva Debates, Erin scored a victory over Melanie in the WrestleMania edition. The current score is:
Erin: 1
Melanie: 0
This time, our Diva Debate is: Tyra Banks recently celebrated 600 episodes of her talk show, but which Diva (past or present) could follow in the footsteps of Oprah, Ellen and Tyra as the next queen of daytime?
Erin: My idea departs from the “Oprah” mentality and ventures more into “Jerry Springer” land. So, less heart-to-heart and more chair –tossing; But doesn’t that sounds more like wrestling to you?
My host would be none other than controversial wrestling manager Missy Hyatt. Yes, the one who has slept with many a wrestler and opened a website where patrons could pay to see her and Tammy Sytch ‘nekkid’. Needless to say, she’s not the picture of class, but that would be a perfect fit for my vision of a talk show.
Basically, Missy could bring on scorned lovers and broken families and attempt to aid them in their domestic problems. Of course, the issues would often spar some physical and verbal confrontations, but that’s what the people watch for! Missy could use her many, many years of experience as an indy wrestling manager to oversee the action – no need for the “bodyguards” like on Jerry Springer.
Honestly, who watches daytime talk shows these days for the heartwarming stories about lost dogs and reunited families? We watch for the morbid curiosity factor! Missy’s talk show would deliver all of this and more – scratch your freak itch! It would be more entertaining and exciting than your average talk show – no tired makeovers and diet tips. Come on, admit it - you know what you’d prefer..
Melanie: I’m going to go with the legendary, seven-time Women’s Champion, Trish Stratus. As proven by her long WWE career, Trish is a fan favourite and not just with wrestling fans, during her career she’s done lots of promotional work and always appeared friendly and gracious. What better Diva is there that you’d want to invite into your home on a daily basis? Just like Oprah, Trish would send out that “homely” vibe that would make you want to sit on the couch and watch an episode of “Trish.”
The key to having a daytime talk show is being extremely likable and that’s exactly what Trish is. Oprah, Ellen and Tyra are all likable and after all, it’s mainly women who watch these shows – Trish has appeal for both men and women. Not to mention, the built in wrestling fanbase who’d tune in just for her! Trish’s humour and fun personality would drive the show forward, making an hour pass by breezily and make you want more. The former Women’s Champ is a natural comedienne, like Ellen, whose success with her talk show over the past four years has been huge. In fact, she recently overtook the Queen herself, Oprah as America’s favourite daytime talk show host.
Trish has what it takes to make a daytime show fun, adventurous and challenging. Trish has always risen to the challenge – just look at her WWE career, as well as that she’s currently filming her own travel show and was even up for being tasered on the short-lived CBS reality show “Armed and Famous.” Just imagine the segments she could do on her own show, tackling her fears etc. As well as that, Trish has an instant likeability factor; she’s like everyone’s best friend! So of course she’d be a natural at interacting with the audience and celebrity guests, adding humour to her interviews.
Let’s face it, Trish has the makings of the next queen of daytime, in fact I’m not sure why she hasn’t pursued her own show already! She’s likable, has a great personality and sense of humour, has many a story to tell and like her predecessors is a successful, inspirational female that the mainly female audience can relate to. After all, Ellen is an Emmy winner, Tyra is a supermodel, Oprah is Oscar-nominated and Trish is a seven-time Women’s Champion! It’s a winning formula… stratusfaction guaranteed!

I went with Melanie. Trish would be a bigger draw.
