Great article! I couldn’t agree more. I thinks it’s funny that Raw’s divas aren’t the best wrestlers; rather ECW and SmackDown’s divas are pulling out on top. I think RAW’s downfal is that they have more useless divas on the roster than they do talented ones. Send the “eye candy” to ECW, and take the talent to RAW and SmackDown. I do like Maris, but shes really worthless on RAW. the talented divas are too experienced for her to go against. It’s like playing “Advanced Mode” on a video game you’ve never played before. She needs to start small, then grow, like Kelly, Layla, and every other talented Diva on the roster has done.

Nice article as always but I wouldn’t put Kelly Layla and Michelle above Candice.
Sure they’ve improved and sure they’re getting better, but Candice is better, IMO.
She’s not the greatest, but Kelly still has yet to wrestle anyone outside of Victoria and Layla. Sure she had a match with Natalya and Beth, but she didn’t do anything. It takes more then bumping to be a good wrestler. Plus you’re well aware Kelly is booked to bump, right? It’s not like she bumps like that because she wants to.
Layla is still very green. I haven’t seen any stellar match with her. Sure her match with McCool was decent but I didn’t see anything that rates her above anybody. She has a great character, but what about when and if she turns face? It’s not that hard being a bitchy heel if you’ve got that personality.
McCool, need I explain? The fans could care less for her. Sure, she’s come a long way but she has nothing exciting to her. If she wins a title, the fans won’t care or buy it.
Now onto Candice. She still has many flaws about her, but last year, Candice really did shine. Her matches with Melina and Beth at house shows were really good. I think people need to watch those and not her two minute matches on RAW. Her PPV matches got better with each one, minus No Mercy, but that was both ladies faults that night. The fans did cheer for her. No, they’re not Mickie pops, but Mickie had ALOT of development in her by the time she turned face and she had one of the best diva feuds in a long time. Candice was given the title and she ran with it. She continued to develop and much like Trish, she got better with time. WWE knew she wasn’t the best and that’s why I think they didn’t book her that way with Beth. Beth was always made to look stronger and better then Candice. The WWE never tried putting Candice’s talents over anyone elses. What I’m saying is that while Candice lacked alot, she proved that she could handle being the womens champion. By the time she lost the title, she was over with the crowds, they began to like her and warm up to her. At first, people weren’t sure how she’d be but she eventually grew and showed people she was serious about being in the WWE.
I think alot of people expected way too much out of her during her first reign as champ. People in the IWC, were expecting this great wrestler who had everything. I’m sorry but it was never gonna happen during her first reign. That reign was used to elevate her first and then she’d get better as time went on, much like Trish’s first reign.
I guarentee you right now, if Kelly, Layla, or Michelle were to become a champion, they’d get their back turned on just like Candice last year. Plus since they didn’t do Playoby and since they weren’t FULL BLOWN T&A when they came in (well Kelly was), they have it easier. People automatically assume Candice cannot make it because of those things and it’s getting old. I’d like to see Layla fight Melina or Beth in a high profile match and actually make it decent. I’d like to see Kelly fight Beth and especially Melina (who sucks at carrying) to a math like what Candice had at the Bash last year. I’d love to see Michelle get a non computer generated pop from the crowd and I’d like to see her in a high profile PPV match that the fans won’t sleep on.
It may sound like marking, but there’s a reason why Candice is chosen over the overs. She hasn’t slept her way to the top either like others have, Michelle! I dare anyone say she has, because she’s married no reports have come out about her doing so like many others. Hell I’ve heard Mickie James has really slept with others to get her spot, but it could just be rumor.
Um actually, Mike, the fans are still very “eh” on Candice. You can’t see that because you’re a simple mark for her. (:
As for Michelle, I was at a house show and trust me, the cheers for her (there were A LOT) were not generated by a computer.
Also, as for the “wah wah wah, she slept with Undertaker to get her role in the WWE”.. actually look at when she became the top face sd diva, or was becoming it. The SD division was sparse in terms of faces and there honestly was no one else who could have filled the shoes Torrie was starting to leave behind. I’m not saying her hooking up with Taker didn’t help her, because it probably did, but I also think it’s incredibly stupid to think she only received a push for having a relationship with him.
I’m a mark, but I KNOW for a fact, Michelle is not better.
Michelle probably did get cheers at house shows. But there’s what? 500 to 1000 fans there? It’s easier to hear that many cheers over 14000 to 20000 at television tapings.
I know the fans are still “eh” on Candice, but before she got injured, she was getting cheers, that people could actually hear on tv. Her return though, pretty much sucked and IMO, ruined what she had going. Maybe with a better return, she gain some more fans back. Hell the casual wrestling fan probably didn’t even know she was back because WWE had to give Maria the spotlight.
I know in NO way that Candcie is the best or most popular diva. I’ve never said it before and I never will, because she’s not and anyone that does is crazy. But in looking at who was compared, she’s the most established and most over star. Well Kelly might get more cheers but her wrestling isn’t as up to par, even though Candice still has ALOT to learn.
Michelle’s tons better than Candice!
Sure, Michelle’s character is boring, but Candice’s isn’t better. And when it comes to wrestling, it’s pretty obvious who’s the one that doesn’t botch half her moves and can actually hold her own without needing carrying.
You say if Michelle would go against Melina or Beth, those matches would be worst than the ones Candice had with them… hello? Michelle’s matches with Layla on SD have been better than the ones Candice had with Melina at PPV’s!
And you say people cheer for Candice… since when getting cheered is a sign of talent? Beth barely gets a reaction, does that mean she’s worst than Candice?
