I don’t know what has left me more aghast, the shocking end of this week’s Doctor Who or the Layla news I’ve just read. The latest rumour making rounds is that Layla was moved to Raw in anticipation of her posing for Playboy next year. *Dramatic pause* Allow me to be the first to scream “Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo” in an overdramatic fashion. It’s no secret that we have championed Layla on this site from Day 1, but I cannot condone her posing for Playboy. The annual “Playboy push” is so superficial and does nothing for your career in the long run, just look at Maria. Layla has proven that she is a Diva with substance, look how far she’s come in the past two years - she is above Playboy and the pathetic “push” that comes with it. Layla has the makings of a true Diva success story; a girl that came into the company with no experience and went onto learn the ropes and become a great wrestler and future Women’s Champion. She has so much more going for her and does not need Playboy to add meaning to her career. Please Layla, if you just so happen to read this, DON’T DO IT! We must stop the Playboy curse from taking Layla as another victim, who’s with me? |

Sable- unemployed
Chyna-unemployed and gets dumped for Steph
Torrie-can never wrestle again
Candice-injured
Ashley-injured and probably about to get fired
Maria- does nothing to further her Diva status.

Haha Brittany! That’s great. It has to be the “Playboy Curse’ that Santino was talking about. Torrie posed twice, so it ended her career.
Candice posed once and broke her nose once and her shoulder twice.
Maria probably still has her fate coming to her, we’ll see. Maybe Natalya will break her legs when she tries doing the “Seeing Stars” move, lmao.
And, Layla will probably… hmm, is there much more that can happen? Maybe she’ll get a mixture of all the injuries =/
Not a good idea Layla, plus, for a “newbie” it makes her look a little trashy. Of course Ashley did it early in her career, but trash is Ashleys middle name. Maybe in a few years, but now Layla seems like a lady of class, and I really couldn’t see her doing it. Let’s cross our fingers, and hope to never hear about this idea again!
(I’m not saying Torrie, Sable, Candice etc. (excluding Ashley) are trash, because they all did it somewhat late in their careers. Well, Christy practically did it her first day with a WWE contract, but we know how that all turned out.)

How people’s careers end up has nothing to do if they posed or not.
Whoever thinks Playboy helped Candice is crazy. She didn’t become champion because of Playboy. She had to improve her ring skills to get the title and Playboy had nothing to do with it.
Anyways, Layla might be fine. If she does it at a stage where her skills aren’t great (and they aren’t) then when she’s done with Playboy, she can continue to improve her in ring skills and maybe go for the title.
About the Playboy curse, it’s BS. Candice and Torrie got “cursed” long after posing for Playboy. Plus Candice is set to come back and go back to the top of the division again. How is that a curse? Every wrestler gets cursed.
Torrie stayed with the business 5 years after posing for Playboy and it’s not what hurt her back. Wrestling all those years did (even though most was just T&A contests).
Maria, WWE noticed she sucked and wasn’t doing much on RAW so they moved her.
Ashley, she’s been a train wreck FAR before she ever posed for Playboy.
Sable, her and WWE just had a disagreement. Plus I’d expect her to be out of the business by now anyways, same as Chyna. It wouldn’t have mattered if they posed for Playboy or not, the same would’ve happened.
Christy still has a job with TNA and seems to be doing fine.
Many women in the wrestling business don’t last as long as the men these days, I’m talking about in the WWE. Most have families and move on.
When I speak of the Playboy curse, I’m not speaking about injuries, I’m speaking metaphorically. I don’t think Playboy does anything to enhance these Divas careers, because right afterwards they’re right back where they started. I think in recent years, Divas are simply posing for Playboy for the chance to appear on WrestleMania and have a title shot and get a push, but right back after they just rejoin the chorus and barely prosper in the long run. It’s not worth it, it’s a temporary high that hurts your credibility to be taken seriously. I fear that it will do just that for Layla, who has worked so hard and is beginning to win over the critics, I’d prefer her to continue to work hard and train as a wrestler and not be another name added to the Playboy list. I would love Layla to be known as a girl who started out with nothing and became a great worker, not as a Playboy covergirl.
Why do the playboy girls have to go to RAW? Smackdown now has a divas title so they can push that angle. smackdown also has more of the t&a women.
Also, with Triple H moving to Smackdown, I feel it has now become the major brand in the eyes of the WWE. I still think it will be Kelly Kelly this coming year.
Why no WWE in Playgirl PS? (and vito and hbk dont count, as they did partial nudity).

I Mean, Ive Lost Respect For The Divas Who’ve Posed For It (Except Torrie!) & The Lil Push They Get From Doing It Isnt Worth It! Layla’s Smooth Magazine Was Hot Enough To Keep People Wondering Whats Under There.. Honestly, Layla’s Hot, But Doing Playboy Is Tooo Much!
Yeah, Melanie, it does hurt their cred when they eventually decide they don’t want to be just T&A. That’s the reason why so many people (myself included) had such a problem with Candice becoming women’s champion (especially since in the PPV before her title win, she was in a f’in pudding match -.-).
I know it’s more than just injuries. They get pushed for six weeks, and go on to do nothing. Maria isn’t exactly setting the world on fire. Look at poor Torrie, WWE never saw her as anything more than eye candy(her doing PB probably didn’t help matters) and never gave her the title, which is a shame. There’s a reason Trish or Lita never did it. They wanted to be remembered as WRESTLERS, not that chick that took it all off for a few weeks of cheap publicity. I don’t think any Diva should do it.
Ugh, this is real bad. Ashley, Maria & Candice all ended up really trashy after their shoots.
I agree with you Melanie, it does not enhance their careers and I was speaking about the Playboy curse in general since it gets brought up alot.
I’ll take Candice for example, alot of people feel Playboy got her the Women’s title and it didn’t. Alot think it helped her and it didn’t. Playboy had nothing to do with her getting the belt. She wasn’t handed the title because she got naked. So I agree, Playboy does nothing for your career but bring you down in the fact that now you’ve done what you can do and there’s no need for you. But hopefully Layla can continue to improve and show WWE that she can do more.
I wouldn’t mind a Candice vs. Layla feud over the title going into WM with Layla acting like how Candice did and say how she’s the hottest covergirl, etc. If Layla and Candice continue to improve, it could work.

Just end the Playboy schtick already. It doesn’t get either side much publicity and in the end all you have is a chick’s boobs to stare at. That’s probably the point to some people, but it seems pointless to me.
Playboy’s not that great anymore anyways.. It used to be a much bigger deal - now it’s just ex-reality show stars and other 15-minutes-of-fame chicks. I personally wouldn’t be lobbying for a spot on the cover, it’s just not that prestigious anymore.

after the michael hayes’ racism mess, wwe wants to show the media that they will put a black woman in playboy just as much as they will put a black woman.
ashley is not trash and she is not getting fired. she is returning to raw now that the whole escort story has died down in the media. actually rolling stones was the only outlet besides tmz that covered it back in may.
honestly i really don’t like the idea of divas being in playboy
it makes WWE focus on the diva boobs and butt instead of them actually putting them as main events in shows or giving them more then one match in a show or actually letting them improve in their in ring skills
i can take my favorite diva for example on this Torrie Wilson. After she posed for playboy WWE just focused on her wearing skimpy bikinis rather then letting her improve. if they let het improve i totally saw potential to be a multi-time womens champion. You can tell if you really focus on her in one of her matches that torrie is a great fighter
So yea i really think i proved my point. Some one should make some kind of petition or something to WWE that like they should take their womens division more seriously and all the people on diva dirt can sign it

i hate the whole Playboy thing that happens around WM. All it does is stop there being a proper womens title match. Last year Melina had to put up with Ashley and this year we get a tag match instead of a title match.

Tbh, who cares if she does it. Taking her clothes off doesn’t make her a lesser wrestler. Layla’s got talent - PB doesn’t change that. & Yeah, its JUNE, PB doesn’t come around again for another 10 months, ALOT changes in that time span.
Layla CAN NOT pose for playboy. I really want her to go down in WWE history as a legend and a great WWE Diva who never fell through with playboy! Please don’t do it layla!!
