Welcome the 2009 edition of Diva Draft! It feels like just yesterday when I was putting together last year’s Diva Draft and what a result! I successfully predicted both of the Diva Draft picks as Layla moved to Raw and Maria moved to SmackDown. So this year there’s the added pressure of keeping my streak intact! Unlike last year, the Draft has moved up to April 13th from it’s usual late-June slot meaning it comes just a week after WrestleMania. So over the next few days leading up to the big Draft show, I will be predicting my picks for this year’s Draft. Like last year, I’ll be making six picks but this time, in six consecutive days.
THE BELLA TWINS TO RAW
Last year, I predicted a possible move to Raw for then-ECW Diva, Layla. When I made that selection, I made it as a ‘wildcard pick’, a pick I felt was kind of ‘out there’ and would make people go “What?!” Lo and behold, Layla was drafted to Raw. So this year, I decided to bring back my wildcard pick and this is it.
In the fifth of my six picks, I’ve decided to go for the Bella Twins moving to Raw. The storyline idea I had for them was kinda ‘out there’ in itself, so there’s probably a slim-to-no chance of it ever happening. A little backstory: When I first made the decision to go with this Draft pick, the Bellas hadn’t miraculously reunited. That occurred over the weekend. My idea was that since they didn’t accompany their respective tag teams at WrestleMania or the next night on Raw, WWE had quietly dropped the Bella angle to this feud in preparation of the Draft where Miz & Morrison are rumoured to be split up. My feeling was that given WWE’s disregard for the Divas, you could just pair the Bellas back together on any given show and just have the announcers say “Oh they made up.” Well they did, which makes the next portion of my pick a lot easier to explain!
Since these two Divas hit the scene, I’ve always thought it would be cool to pair them up with a certain Diva who shares their Latin roots – Melina. There has never really been a Divas stable in WWE and I thought this would be a cool combination. When Melina was injured, I pondered the idea of having her return on SmackDown and team up with the Bellas. But with Melina back on Raw, I would suggest moving the newly-reunited Twins to that brand and become the A-List Diva’s entourage sort of like Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder were to Edge.
The Bella Twins have always been background characters so I wouldn’t think of it as a promotion per se, because they’d only really be supporting characters to the Women’s Champion and help her in her feud with Beth Phoenix, Santino and Rosa Mendes.
It would work well for them, giving them a little rub from the Women’s Champion and also play into Melina’s character of being the A-List Diva having an entourage etc. A long shot, but there is my annual wildcard pick…

I also want the Bellas to be used that way, but I would like to see them stay on Smackdown as Maryse’s back up.
This is your wildcard pick…not bad actually, I can see them on Raw,yet not progressing as there are much BETTER divas on that brand, but yet they could be actually used to their potential, but who knows WWE could probably screw this up, just like Miss Wrestlemania
Hey, ChrisP, if that happened, it would seem as copying or something like “The Beautiful People” which most people love. But we can also call it “Maryse and the twins”(LOL) thing so it wouldn’t reuse the trio or duo bad girls in wrestling from TNA’s idea. :D
I like that idea, Melanie. I could really see them as being Melina’s back up.
chrisP: I would also like that idea. They just really seem like they would do well as someone’s back up or “go to girls” I guess.

Ladies In Pink/Vince’s Devils (Candice/Torrie/Victoria) and PMS were both diva stables, with Vince’s Devils getting quite a lot of air time during their tenure against Trish & Ashley.
Eh…it’s not like TNA is the first promotion to ever do a Beautiful People Type women’s stable. WWE themselves have already did a similar thing with Torrie/Victoria/Candice back with the whole Vince’s Devils storyline a few years ago.
That said the Bella’s are much too bland to pull something like that off…they would be better off pairing Maryse with Jillian and Layla or something if they want to do something like that with her.
i just do not like them. they are a waste a space.

Vince’s Devils, Molly & Gail, Victoria & Nidia {sorta}
mpezza thats exactly what i thought when i read that. we also had chyna and the kat but i loved pms they were the shiz! wwe’s never really had a diva stable that was over though.(like dx)
anyway i had this idea in my head as well(the bellas being paired with melina) and i also had the idea that alicia fox and jillian could be paired up as singer and backup dancer
I don’t know, Rico, I’d say Vince’s Devils were pretty over – although for the wrong reasons. Torrie & Candice were cheered more often than not, simply because they were quick to lez it up and take their clothes off lol. That’s the only reason they were over though, because the men in the audience got a chubby whenever they came out lol. :D
Hell no keep them on SD,they have no buisness on raw all they ginna do is pin Jillian,Beth and layla ever two to 3 weeks please

I like the idea of the Bellas teaming up with Melina! Although, if what I read on PWPIX.NET is true then Melina should be moving to Smackdown and Maryse to Raw… I hope this isn’t true as I’d much rather Melina stay on Raw and Mickie moved to Smackdown.
As much as I’d love the Bellas to move to Raw and team up with Melina I don’t really see them being drafted this year.
I really hope we get a fair amount of Diva Drafts this year. If we don’t then it’ll pretty much just be the same Divas on the same brand for another year which wouldn’t give us many more feuds or storylines.
What I meant by there have never really been any stables is stables in the true sense like Evolution or DX. Most of those examples you’ve given were short lived or consisted of 2 people, which I don’t consider a stable.
