This week’s SmackDown saw more of the same tag team action we saw last week, minus two members (though one was at ringisde). Women’s Champion Melina teamed up with Eve Torres to take on the Diva who pinned her last week, Layla and the #1 Contender for her title, Michelle McCool. Check it out below:
First of all, no Gail Kim this week makes me sad. But onto the Divas who were on the show, Layla finally ditched the fug outfit she’s been wearing but I’m still not loving the hair, leave the big hair for Alicia and go back to the straighteners! Really liking Michelle’s hair tied up though.
This one is very interesting as it combines the two Divas feuds going on right now, with the more experienced Melina & Michelle leading their partners. Eve and Layla start things out with Layla taking the lead, though she may not be the best wrestler, Layla knows how to take control and carry her opponent already and that’s an invaluable ability. Layla throws Eve into the corner, goes for a clothesline but Eve elbows her. Then here’s some weird ish, Eve climbs up to the top rope only to jump off into a forward roll? Honey, you’re supposed to hit your opponent, not roll around them. Anyway, Eve’s jumping roll manages to give her an advantage and she hits one of her awkward dropkicks on Layla. And following an awkward dropkick, an awkward rollup. Eve is definitely the weakest link in this match. Once again, Layla throws Eve into the corner, she manages to counter by setting up a leg-scissors but Layla slams her down front first.
Time for Michelle to come into the match and pick things up! The very talented and aggressive Michelle, drives her knee into Eve’s back several times before hitting a really botchy legsweep, seriously Eve is not on her game tonight, her selling is awful. Fast forward a lil bit and Melina tags in and we get a little taste of the future… Melina hits a few forearms from the outside before getting in the ring and taking care of business with her usual fast paced style. Melina hits a really nice leg-scissors into a kick. Later she goes for her patented Matrish-into-kick, but Michelle manages to counter and Melina does a backflip. Great athleticism and exciting to watch too. Then another Melina patented move, the hair-smash. Layla breaks up the three count and gets dropkicked [awkwardly] out of the ring by Eve, and they do the usual catfight on the outside shtick.
Meanwhile in the ring, Melina sets up her Last Call but Alicia interferes and Michelle reverses into the Faith Breaker, which is executed just perfectly. Very, very nice finish to the match with the exchange of finishers.
Another great effort from SmackDown and I am definitely now ready for a one-on-one match between Melina and Michelle. I really hope they get thrown out there for a good ten minutes for their Women’s Championship match.

see i would have liked for gail kim to come out and remove the assisting Alicia Fox, Melina is distracted inadvertently by Gail and loses the match. setting up a small disagreement between the two, then have gail kim beat michelle next week and (finally) get on the mic and call ou melina and ask for a title shot, Teddy Long then agrees to it and its a triple threat match for the bash!!
i swear some of us shld be employed in wwe
I TOTALLY agree megagary, well, with the triple threat thing anyways. That’s a match I think could go down in women’s wrestling history!Even though I HATE when Melina is beaten, I loved the way the match ended.Truthfully, I don’t want Michelle to win the title, and no, not only because Melina’s my favorite diva.I have two reasons.I don’t want her to be the first double-champ (It’s too big an honor for someone like her) and she lacks WAY too much charisma. She’s one of the best wrestlers in the women’s division today, but she needs to work on her mic skills.I want Melina, Gail, or even someday Natalya to be the first double-champ.They’re all-around great performers.
This match sucked. I feel bad for Melina as she deseves better than a feud with McCool and for Gail for not even making it onto the show.
chrisP- Seriously, your bad attitude is starting to get sickening, how about you get off the site, drive 50 miles from where you are, and never come back?Or at least say SOMETHING good about at least SOMEONE.
TrishMelinaFan, the effort was certainly there. I can’t say they weren’t trying hard. However, I did not like this match, and there is no point in me saying I thought it was good when I really thought it wasn’t.
I love how Eve trying to make her entrance more unique, but it seemed kind of awkward, did’nt it? Still not feeling Layla’s look. It seems she lost her fashion sense in the draft as well as her spot on Raw.
I thought Melina and Michelle had great Chemistry in the ring, and wait to see them one on one. I have a feeling that Alicia is going to ensure McCool victory WHEN they finally have a title match.
Chris P shut up im so tired of seeing you and ur comments on how everything suks, What dosent suk to you ?.
Anyway this match was good every one did good. I think it was best that Michelle pinned Melina although she kinda botch her faith breaker when she was trying to roll melina over for the pin.BUt other than that great match. It looks like the Heels had a great week
@TrishMelinaFan: It really isn’t to get upset at ChrisP for giving hos opinion. He’s entitled to that just like you and me. The fact that it is always a negative opinion is neither here nor there. Why can’t we all get along? :P
*isn’t Fair. Damn typos!
I’ve certainly disagreed with chrisP in the past, but he’s entitled to his opinion, so don’t jump all over him guys. At least he is able to come back, respond and give his reasons. You can debate but there’s no need to tell someone to ‘never come back’ or ‘shut up’.
so wow pretty good match all the Divas looked great
too bad Gail wasnt around, it would of at least been nice to see her in a backstage segment cuz honestly i forgot what her voice sounds like =]
Michelle and Melina have great chemistry the finish was amazing also
the only problem i have with there fued is that its pretty…dull
i mean yea Michelle is the #1 contender and she owns a victory over Melina but thats it.
no promos or anything eh idk im not really feeling it

oops i wonder how that happened…
Really liked the finish to this match, Melina took it very well. Id just love some promos for the divas even if its just for a minute or two. And I would have to disagree with chrisP, I think Michelle is definitely worthy of her feud with Melina, both share great chemistry, and its because of this feud that Melina has become fresh as she was getting stale over on Raw.
Obviously someone made the decision NOT to use Gail Kim as she has posted that she is in Toronto this week visiting family and friends. We are assuming that she went off to Canada before Tuesday nights taping, and we will see if she shows up this Saturday for the House Show in Binghampton, New York and Sunday night in Hershey, Pa (as she mentioned) … and most importantly the continuation of these Diva feuds on Tuesday. Gail in her message said … “catch me on Friday nights on Smackdown!” So I would presume that is where she will be.
The faithbreaker was SICK! Loved it… Michelle used to be so boring to me. I loathed her character, but I am really digging the new heel McCool. When she does meet Melina for the gold, she’s walking away the new champion.
Alicia Fox was fierce as always. Melina was on her game, and Layla straddling the top rope has been a bit much… but I still love her.
is it just me or does it seem like Melina is going to keep the women’s championship!? (For some reason I have that feeling)
But anyway, I am not a fan of Layla’s attire lately it just seems so NOT HER.
For some reason smackdown does feel a little off, Kinda wish Layla got the Pin but GO LAYLA :D
Thank you, Steven. I have never said and will never say somebody is wrong for liking something I didn’t or for hating something that I liked.
I like the current Divas title deal on Raw with Maryse, Mickie, and Kelly. Others here do not and are not shy about saying so, nor should they be. If someone isn’t enjoying Smackdown or likes Smackdown but not at the level others here do, it shouldn’t be any different.
the ending was sick….looked like she was trying the widows peak at first….lol….and eve was the only diva who looked off i n the ring…..
wish layla would str810 her hair again……and michelle looked good with her hair up…
i hope melina retains in their title match……
Awesome ending to a pretty good match. Speaking as an Eve fan, she WAS off tonight. Not bad, just off.
Besides Tara’s TNA in-ring debut, this was my favorite women’s wrestling match this week. Good job once again, Smackdown Divas! :)
if you go to the wwe.com website and click on “superstars” under the TV shows section there is a poll asking which match you enjoyed most on superstars. i encourage everyone to vote the divas tag match ..currently they are in 2nd place, and hopefully if more people vote perhaps wwe will be inclined to have more divas matches on the show..just a thought! :)
lol i agree maybe well get to see jillian vs gail…..oh i would love to see that on superstars…..
Another great match for the SD Divas. Was a shame that Gail wasn’t there. I am loving this Melina/Michelle rivalry. It seems that Michelle has been getting the one up on Melina and I think that this will lead to Melina retaining.
well sorry for being rude to Chrisp…
Ne way Meliane I have a new thread for u in case u dont know yet or u do and ur just waiting Roxxi is intrested in the wwe she handed them her resume and her AAA Mexio resume or whatever. I just thought you would like to know
I think the match was pretty good, except for when Eve was in the ring which is a shame because she’s usually quite solid; not great but solid. The ending to the match was awesome, I marked hard. :D
I think that this match was good.
Where is Gail Kim when you need her?
Eve was slacking this week but she did her part, and I like her entrance, it fits her..she just needs to tweak it.
Layla looked good in her outfit this week, she should straighten her hair though.
I am sooo loving the Melina/McCool rivalry! McCool and Melina have great chemistry and that goes all the way back to their first match. Melina is so innovative with her moveset and I love it. The faithbreaker on Melina was sick! Can’t wait for the title match!
very solid match…i don’t know if this was a case of audio sweetening, but it sure sounded to me like the crowd was more into this match than past SD Diva match that were even more solid…if this is the case then it’s a promising sign anyways onto my thoughts:
Eve….showing some personality…me likey….i totally get what she’s attempting with the whole jump on the turnbuckle roll over opponent thing…she just needs a better transitional move, cause her weak ass one-legged dropkick just ain’t cuttin’ it…she’s still green but i feel sticking with Melina will help her improve…the whole teacher/student dynamic would be a nice little side element to the story, she’s still very green but to me she wasn’t as winded this week
Michelle….she has continued to make a believer out of me….i really thought like a few others that she was gonna go all Widow’s Peak on Melina or at least do some kind of sick slam…countering the MaTrish kick with a simple grab of the leg…nice bit of logic to the booking, makes sense…unlike in most men’s matches (Cena, MVP, Kofi…etc) you know the damn move’s coming and you don’t try and block?!!
Melina…awesome…her selling is top notch, her karate stance is cool but i wish she’d do something more with it rather than wait for her opponent to run into the spinning face slam
Layla…for someone with not a lot of experience she’s got good fundamentals and shows she can lead in a match, as much as a love a black woman with natural hair..i’m in agreement with everyone else, Layla straighten your hair again please!!!!
Alicia….I still feel like feeding you girl…i’m scared she’s gonna snap in two..she so thin…she did her job well….and i rather liked the little botchy through the ropes drop kick…adds some realism to the proceedings, no one who’s a wrestling fan likes or wants to see a botchfest…but a few blown moves here and there makes it seem that much more real in my opinion, cause in the eyes of the viewer you can chalk it up to nerves and the fact that things don’t always go as planned.
@ Andre: I don’t think the crowd was that into the match, at least not until Melina made the hot tag and started cleaning house. Before then, the crowd was pretty dead during the match.
It was an ok match i think it was sorta on par with the tag match on superstars, they should’ve given Melina and Michelle more time in the ring – that would make it better. I agree mostly with mel here, it seems that Eve wasn’t on the top of her game for some reason, her past performances have been pretty good but not tonight. Bit slow with Eve and Layla in the ring. Layla straighten your hair! u just look like another a-fox.
If it’s not completely edited, then Melina is definitely one of the most over Divas right now. They crowd gets loud when she comes out, and when she entered the ring was the only time they seemes to be the least bit interested in the match.
On to the actual match, it was okay in my opinion. I do agree that Eve seemed off for one reason or another. I liked the ending, and Melina sold it perfectly. So, I wonder when this Women’s Championship match will actually happen? I agree with Melanie, I would love to see a nice ten minute or so match between the two of them. They are both talented enough to actually work a ten minute match and look good throughout the whole thing.
i dont really like michelle bt the matches she has hand with gail kim and melina have shown she deserves a title shot, she works brilliantly with them. i dnt think she will be the first ever divas champion, she needs a tad more charisma, bt shes working it i feel and wldnt be annoyed at all ifshe did win the title, jst feel tht THAT honour belongs to someone else.
Layla PLEASE straighten your hair! and her attire reminded me of something Michelle wore a while ago…idk y. bt i liked it. i LOVE Layla, so id like to see her in more matches lol.
Alicia, hot as ever, working the attitude and fulfilled her purpose. PERFECT! I wonder if anything WILL happen between Michelle and Alicia? Im slightly miffed that there was no promo or nothing to explain their pairing.
wonder if wwe will hire Roxxi? hope so, she was my fave when she was in her voodoo gimmick
i thought this was a really good match, despite some dodgy moves from Eve Torres.
as good a competitor as Michelle is, i don’t want her to be the double champion. i thought it should be melina, but seeing as she’s holding the womens title, then mickie james.
