It’s hard to believe it but we are already half way through 2009! It feels like it was just yesterday we announced the winners of our 2008 Year-End Awards but here we are, July already. And as we acclimatise ourselves to the summer weather, I’m feeling a tad reminiscent of the first six months of the year.
Please note: These awards are not ‘real’, they are just the opinion of Melanie and do not reflect the views of Diva Dirt as a whole. This is just a bit of light, fluffy fun to get everyone talking and find out what you think. We’ll be hosting our annual Year-End Awards in December!
Top Diva: This award is both for personal and on-screen accomplishments for me. I think Melina has been the standout Diva for me, so far this year. She came back from an injury last year and went into 2009 as the #1 Contender for the Women’s Championship, looked to be on incredible form and took the title for her third reign. That’s definitely a comeback fairytale if there ever was one. Melina has consistently performed in every match she’s had this year and has excelled despite curveballs being thrown at her i.e. drafting to SmackDown. There she has shone even more.
Top Knockout: 2009 has been the year of the Beautiful People, in particular Angelina Love, who finally realised her goal of becoming the Knockouts Champion. Ang and Velvet have worked really hard to get their gimmick to the top of the card and Angelina has worked really hard to get to the top of the division. She was definitely due the Knockouts Championship and earned it in April.
Top Match: I really enjoyed the match on Raw, the night after WrestleMania which saw 10 Divas from Raw and SmackDown go at it and give it their all, after an extremely disappointing match at ‘Mania.
Top Brand: This brand has been extremely consistent since the Draft in April, SmackDown. With solid booking and good in-ring work from the likes of Melina, Michelle, Maryse, Natalya, Victoria, Gail, Alicia, Eve and Layla since January.
Breakout Star: No question about it, I doubt it’ll come as a shock to many of you, it’s got to be Alicia Fox. Since moving over to SmackDown in the Draft in April, A-Fox has been on fire.
What do you think? How would you have voted for in each category?

Top Diva-Definatly Melina she has done great and probably a lot better on Smackdown.
Top Knockout- Angelina Love has definatly been on top of the game. She’s pulled tons of upsets, won the Knockouts title, and is now the Top Knockout despite Tara’s debut.
Top Match-I would have to say Melina vs Michelle although that match could’ve gona a bit longer.
Top Brand-No Doubt about it Smackdown has been the place to be for the Divas Division. Raw’s booking has been chosen without thought and the in-ring work is lacking effort.
Breakout Star-I agree, the greates thing that ever happened to Alicia was being moved to Smackdown. She has been on a roll but now the question is, will her fire be put out once she debuts on the Raw Roster?

I really hope Alicia doesn’t become another Jillian Hall. But I have very high hopes for her. I think that the RAW creative team looks to book her as the third main heel behind Beth & Maryse as Rosa isn’t very useful in the ring and it even looks like Rosa and Beth might get their own program. I can only hope that during the tag matches involving Maryse & Kelly Kelly, she could show everyone else just how much more polished she’s in the ring than both of them and deserves to be in that role.
I also hope with the signing of Serena and 2 other female wrestlers, that WWE is finally ready to treat their female wrestlers right on all three brands and not just Smackdown, which has showed the best treatment of the women so far.

Top Diva-Melina of course 2009 started off good for her.
Top Knockout:Of course the sexy Angelina Love.I was so damn happy when she won that Knockouts ChampionShip.
Top Match:I agree with Meliane on that 10 Diva Raw & SD match. Mickie,Gail,Melina,Natalya did there best in that match it was the best in a while.
Top Brand-ECW of course LOL JK.Smackdown with the Gain of Alicia and Gail it was looking good.Melina cane and took SD to a whole new level.
Breakout Star-Is Alicia Fox of course, she is a good seller great on the Mic,has awesome in ring, very sexy, whats wrong with her nothing.Alicia is the type of Divas we need in wwe today not fashion divas who come to the ring dress for a RunWay walk (Maria)

Top Diva – Deffiently Melina, Returning Straight Into The Title Picture & Now Her Move To Smackdown
Top Knockout – I Would Say Daffney But Has Got To Ben Angelina Love. Won The Title, Then Pinned Kong .. Incredible!
Top Match – From WWE, Melina vs Michelle At The Bash Without A Doubt. From TNA, The Mix Tag Monsters Ball.
Top Brand – SMACKDOWN! With The Addition Of Melina, It Went Incredible! But Now Gail & Alicia On Raw & Smackdown Has Lost Two Of It’s Most Used People (Not Gail Actually), RAW Could Be The Better Brand
Breakout Star – Ermmm .. I Agree, Alicia Fox. Started On ECW As A Manger & Dancer To Being On Smackown As Michelle’s Protege & Having A Great Role & Improving SOOO Much As A Wrestler & Now On Raw .. Who Knows, She Could Be Diva’s Champion.

Top Diva: Melina, end of story.
Top Knockout: Angelina Love, end of story
Top Match: The 10-Diva match on the Raw after Wrestlemania 25
Top Brand: Smackdown…no contest.
Breakout Star…Here’s where I know I’m gonna get chewed out by all of you here (but hell, that’s what having a mind of your own is all about), but I’m going with Eve by a VERY SMALL margin over Alicia Fox. Yeah, she’s not been involved as much as Alicia, but I don’t know. She’s grown quite a bit without getting a rub. I can’t put my finger on it, but there’s something about Eve. But for Alicia to go from a simple manager into a bad-ass wrestler in a short amount of time is beyond impressive. Can someone say…”Black Trish?!”
Again, I’m not saying this to purposely go against everyone here. I’m just stating my own opinion.

I agree with Melina. She has really shown her skills since her return.
I don’t agree with Angelina being the best Knockout. She’s boring and bland and over-rated. She is TNA’s version of Maryse. The best Knockout in TNA at the moment is Taylor, she has been in some of the best matches in TNA
Top Match has got to go with Melina vs Michelle at The Bash. Both women were great and deserved to be the winners.
Top brand belongs to Smackdown. The women there have brought dignity and respect back to the women’s division
A-Fox is defiantly the break out star as she has not had a bad match since her wrestling debut
