Get out your pitchforks, people, ’cause Michelle McCool‘s talking. Surely that fact alone would be enough to send certain fans into a raging frenzy, but this instance is a bit more meaningful. In a new WWE.com article, she’s making sure everyone’s aware of her history-making Women’s Championship win and becoming the WWE’s first Diva Grand Slam Champion (as we’ve lovingly dubbed it). Of course, the comments are in character, but it’s nice to see them paying attention to the distinction. Michelle says:
“Being the first to win both the WWE Women’s Title and WWE Divas Championship is just the latest reason why I am better than all of the so-called ‘Divas’ who preceded me,†McCool said.
“Making history is difficult, almost impossible, for those without my athletic ability and intelligence,†the champion said. “I’m a collegiate All-American athlete and earned a master’s degree in education from Florida State University.â€
WWE.com also listed a few record-setting Divas who paved the way for Michelle:
• The Fabulous Moolah (First title reign lasted nearly 34 years; WWE Hall of Famer)
• “Sensational” Sherri Martel (AWA and WWE Women’s Champion; WWE Hall of Famer)
• Madusa/Alundra Blayze (All Japan, AWA and WWE Women’s Champion)
• Trish Stratus (Record-setting seven-time Women’s Champion; retired as Champion at Unforgiven 2006 in her hometown of Toronto)
How do you think Michelle and her history-making win stacks up next to the likes of those girls? Do you think, in 10 years time, we’ll be saying the name McCool in the same breath as Moolah and Trish Stratus, or is that nothing but a pipe dream? Is being the Grand Slam Champ as momentous as Michelle says? Sound off, because we know you’re itching to!

As much as I am a fan of Michelle McCool, I don’t think she’ll be the next Trish Stratus for a very long time. She still needs to be a fan favorite and to appear likable on screen until she can call herself the next Trish Stratus. She also needs to work on her mic skills, as Trish Stratus was great on the mic. Her wrestling skills are, probably, a bit better than Trish as she has variety in her matches. You never know what’s going to come in her matches, whereas for Trish Stratus, it’s the chick kick, the Matrish, the Stratusfaction, and then the Strausfear (sp).
I’m not hating on Trish at all, I find her a very likable person and I love watching her wrestle. I just think Michelle has a long way to go until she can be the next Trish Stratus. Have her work on her mic skills and get over the crowd, and at least lose a few matches on television for a while … I kinda hate how WWE shoves her down our throats by winning all the time.
On paper maybe/probably, but I don’t know about how she’ll hold up in the grand scheme of things.
No I dont think she will be in that class of divas.
Shes forgettable.
As a heel I kinda understand that she makes such a cocky comment on the official wwe page.
But so what, she made history by becoming the first divas champion and the first to have held both titles… That for me doesn’t mean too much.
She is a good athlete, her mic skills suck, she is agressive, her personality is probably playing hide and seek. She is a mix of good and bad things, so I don’t think she would EVER be well remembered like Trish or Moolah.
I mean she is almost like Candice, who was the first diva search to win the women’s title, most people loved her, now she got released, and people will just forget her. And Candice at least had some charisma to be remembered.
So as for Michelle Mccool… She is boring. Way too boring. I must say that I actually never liked her, and that’s probably why I don’t think that she will be a legend in the future (as she can probably will be)
But once Undertaker gets tired of her… Well let’s just be patient for that to happen
I don’t think it is really all that significant or history-making, but that isn’t really Michelle’s fault. WWE has not done a good job of making the Diva’s Championship mean anything what-so-ever. I mean, it’s shaped like a butterfly and looks like something that would come with a Barbie! Because the belt has been made to seem so weak, I can’t really see any significance in having held it and the Women’s Championship.
I don’t want to take anything away from Michelle, though. She’s not my favorite Diva, but she has come a long way and does not really deserve a lot of the hate that she gets.
If u think of the “Diva legends” like Trish, Moolah, and Sherri, they each had that special charisma to them that made them special. Unfortunately, Michelle is blah. I think she is great in the ring, but her personality will prevent her from becoming truly memorable.
agree with dunk20 she is sayin tht cause she is a heel
i dont she will be just herself all others got charisma like knockout12 said but my only problem is when i see all this i feel sorry for my fav diva torrie…she is a legend on her own way i guess :(
No one remembers the first, they remember the best. Trish was the all around BEST Diva, and established herself with casual fans as being more than a pretty face.
The Divas title will be lucky to last another year, then Michelle can be proud of being the first champion of a defunct title.
Michelle will never be remembered in the same class as Trish or Madusa. The latter two were over huge with the fans. People cared about them, and they were charismatic. Michelle is a blackhole of charisma. She doesn’t know how to draw heat from a crowd, and she sucks in every aspect outside of wrestling. She has no charisma, she doesn’t know how to cut a promo, and the crowd couldn’t care less about her. Even her voice sucks! Plus, there’s the alleged relationship with the Undertaker. The relationship will hurt Michelle’s legacy because no one will truly know if Michelle earned her push, or if it was handed to her. Much like Triple H isn’t seen as being in the same league as Austin or the Rock because of his relationship with Stephanie, Michelle will not be remembered in the same league as Trish, Lita, and Madusa because of her alleged relationship. That, and the fact that she has a negative amount of charisma.
“The Divas title will be lucky to last another year, then Michelle can be proud of being the first champion of a defunct title.”
I wouldn’t be so sure of that, mostly due to WWE practically painting a big neon sign with the Gail and Alicia trade that said, “Raw will be the main show for Divas”.
No Michelle will never be remebered 10 yrs from now.I mean like every one has said she has no Mic skills, yeah she is agressive but what heel diva hasnt been.(Jazz)
Michelle will never be remebered in the same class as Moolah & Trish. She hasnt done enough yet to be classified as a a Trish or Moolah. Being the first diva to be WC & DC ismaking History but it pales in comparsion to being a 7x Champion & Holding the title for 34 yrs.
To be honest Michelle is boring always has and always will be.She still cant get around to as many fans.Unlike Michelle Trish was cheered when she was a heel.Point blank Michelle will never be in the same class as Moolah & Trish.
People often compare them I dont know why Trush & Michelle r nothing alike.
If people forgot Candice what makes you think they wont forget Michelle after a while.
I think anyone who says Michelle doesn’t deserve what she’s got today is insane. Even before the “relationship” with Undertaker, (because no one knows for sure if they are dating, or ever were dating for that matter) Michelle was climbing the ladder. She may have lost the Diva Search, but if you think about it, she’s done better than Christy Hemme. Winning that “Rookie Diva of the Year” award was just the beginning of her soon to be illustrious career. Michelle has worked hard for all she’s done and I am proud to say I think in a few years and a couple more, she will be among the names of my favorite Diva Trish Stratus, and Lita. But notice I didn’t say more from “The Golden Age.” Reason being, the Diva’s from that time period are just, incomparable. (Ivory, Molly, Victoria, Lita, etc.) But not before Mickie James and Beth Phoenix. Those two women have worked their asses off and have done more work than Michelle and most of the pushed Divas in the roster. But no doubt Michelle McCool is destined for greatness. She’s got the right attitude, and skills to last her for years to come. And she’s only gonna get better, we ALL know that. Can’t wait to watch her grow like I’ve done all the Divas of today…..except SMELLY SMELLY. -__- SHE HASN’T “GROWN” AT ALL.
And all of the people saying she won’t be remembered 10 years from now, B****, WHO MADE YOU GOD AND RULER OVER EVERYONE’S MINDS AND MEMORIES!?!??!?!?!?! You do NOT know where Michelle will be 10 years from now.
Dude this is an opinion piece and we were asked to give our opinion on if she would be remembered. people speculating was the point of this blog. am i right?
UberFan jeez kid calm down its just a freaking blog everyone is entitled to their on opinion.
The Divas today will never be on the same level as the past Divas (any Diva that was with the company before 04) like Lita, Trish Stratus, Sable, The Fabulous Moolah, Madusa, Chyna, and the rest. It just isn’t possible for the Divas today to even compare to the past Divas, during an era where all of the characters no matter how bad they sucked in that ring had the best charisma. It was called the attitude era for a reason, however I feel as though a lot of the Divas in the company today are extremely talented wrestling wise. I believe that Michelle McCool is one of the many Divas that I can honestly say is talented in the ring, however McCool like many of the other Divas lacks charisma. Even the Divas that receive big pops like Mickie James and Maryse will never compare to the past female wrestlers and it ain’t because they aren’t as talented as the past Divas, but it’s because in this day and age of professional wrestling nothing matters to the WWE other than their precious main event superstars. The Divas today can receive the biggest pops in the world, however the Divas today will never be on the same level as the past Divas when they rarely ever receive microphone time. It’s a joke in my opinion to even bash McCool for not having charisma whenever she is on the microphone when that is literally a once and a lifetime thing. The WWE today doesn’t give their Divas any mic time when mic time is the key to stirring up feuds… not booking the Divas in matches and having one of the Divas do a heel taunt or something of that nature.
McCool is talented, however she sadly like the rest of the Divas today will never amount to the past Divas of the attitude era.
I really don’t have anything against Michelle McCool, but I can see how she can get under people’s skin. In all of her matches, she dominates her opponent. I completely understand if she dominates when she’s facing the likes of Maria, or Maryse for that matter, but when she faces the likes of Gail or Melina, women who are capable of holding their own, then that’s when I begin to question if there’s an actual veracity to people’s claims of WWE politics. I’ve seen Melina go up against Beth Phoenix (point case: the “I Quit” match), and Gail Kim’s matches with Awesome Kong. I think the body language when they wrestle says it all: it appears as if Michelle refuses to give any other woman the spotlight.
I’ve been a wrestling fan all of my life, and Gail Kim’s finisher, “the Flying Dragon,” is a standard submission hold in Mexico’s lucha libre. If you look when Gail applied the hold on Michelle in the #1 Contender’s Match, Michelle didn’t extend her arm like she’s supposed to. Compare how Gail locks the hold on McCool vs Victoria in their previous matches in 2003/2004. Victoria did extend her arm so when Gail applied the Flying Dragon, Gail was using the hold’s maximum power. McCool was supposed to extend her arm. She didn’t. What’s the difference? If McCool had her arm outstreched like Victoria did, the pain would be even more unbearable. Again, I could perhaps be reading more into this than I really should, but considering all the bickering and rumors within the WWE fandom, small little details like this make me question if in fact there are backdoor politics going around.
Also, I remember back in 2000, when Lita was just getting started in the WWE, especially after she left Essa Rios and went with the Hardy Boys, whenever her entrance music came on, all of the fans would rise to their feet. The camera would pan out across the arena and the people would rise like a massive tidal wave, screaming and cheering for a female wrestler. Who could ever forget the fact that Lita was the first woman ever to hold a Main Event on RAW for the WWF/WWE Women’s Championship, not only once, but TWICE? The massive human wave of excitement proved that a female wrestler could be just as good as any male wrestler. At that time, only the Rock and Austin got those kind of standing ovations. Lita proved that woman could do it as well. Three years after her retirement, regardless of the personal baggage that was brought into light, people remember and see how Lita revolutionized the Women’s Division. Though she only held the title 4 times, three years later, I–as a fan–still remember Lita as an integral part of the whole WWE company.
It’s great the Michelle Mccool is making history with the titles, but at the end of the day, people don’t really remember how many times the Rock or Austin held the championship–what they remember is the excitement and electricity they brought every night to their matches. We remember the anticipation that built up week after week as we looked foward to seeing the next saga unfold of a wrestler’s storyline. At the end of the day, the WWE titles are just tools to elecit that excitement and entertainment for us fans.
Will Michelle McCool be remembered? For me, the jury’s still out. However, considering the fact that Lita made people give her a standing ovation, even when she had only one title reign under her belt, proves to me that that’s what Michelle McCool needs to accomplish if she truly expects to be remembered. As of yet, I don’t see standing ovations for Michelle McCool.
If history serves any purpose, Ivory, after all, had many WWF/WWE title reigns, and though she was a great and technically sound wrestler, nobody really recalls her tenure in the WWE in the same breadth as Lita, Trish, or for that matter, Chyna. At the moment, I feel Michelle McCool is headed towards Ivory’s path than Lita/Trish/Moolah/or Alundra Blayze.
^ I agree. While some of things are a first for this generation of women’s wrestlers, there’s a certain something about the new Divas that isn’t quite stand-out-ish in my opinion. Of course, I can be wrong, as we are living in the present, and things are yet to come. I can’t predict right of the bat that this generation is nothing, and will be nothing. Because if I have said that during the first Diva search, I would have eaten my words, as WWE gained several new talents over the years. Of course, it wasn’t like the days when Trish, Lita, Victoria, Molly, and Jacqueline where wrestling from the start. But what these new Divas offer is the ability to see them grow as a whole. Michelle made major improvements since her first match. She could barely hit a handspring elbow back then, and now she’s tossing Divas around like a pro. And this whole bullcrap about her relationship…it’s none of our business, and you can’t learn how to wrestle by kissing the Undertaker, come on guys! Give her at least that much! She’s learned her craft and paid her dues. People give Michelle so much slack because of this, and I think its unfair to judge her simply on that alone. Batista was dating half the women’s division, and none of those Divas got any heat.
5 years from now will people remember Michelle’s accomplishment? Not as much. But when the title gains respect, and Michelle finally becomes accepted amongst haters, I believe people will remember.
i am not going to write a huge paragraph because to be honest, i dont think that michelle is anything special, i dont think she will ever hold a scratch to trish or madusa or sherri or moolah….or any of them divas, in my opinion.
I, think someday, shell be in the history books, and maybe even get a standing ovation, but IMO, not as big as trish or lita got, and maybe not even be in the same leauge as trish or lita, but shell get very close, thats all i can say…..
nope. what she needs to realize is that the divas championship is a new title so it only accounts for women who have won it and were even around to win it. anyways MARYSE<33 has beaten her reign as champ, and if Gail Kim wins the divas title she will beat every women in wwe an tna. michelle isnt all that great at all an will NEVER BE, LITA/TRISH/MOOLAH/SHERRI/VICTORIA/MOLLY OR ANY OTHER WOMEN. :p
as much as i am a Mccool fan, i have to say Michelle wont be a legend, yes she made history but 10years from now she isnt going to be history…., she will be remembered as a great in ring performer from this era but other then that, she wont be in the catogory: greatest of all time, i personally think that goes for all of the girls from this ‘era’.
but i seriously dont understand the hatefull comments on here right now? it’s so childish, you’re making it all look like Michelle said she is going to be a legend or something + she is still talking in charachter, calm down internethero’s.
I agree with Benjy with them making Michelle Mccool look so powerful when she is facing Melina & Gail.It does make it seem like she dosent wanna give anybody else the spot light.
I think the reason why Michelle isnt as popular as she think she is,well because she is broing wwe never did anything to build her chracter nothing that she can be remebered 4.They just threw her in the ring week after week.therefor not giving her the attention she needed to let the fans now.
Look at Mickie James bak in 06 that storyline with Trish made her popular as hell. What other heel diva do any of you know that got cheered at WM. Usually its the faces.10yrs from now Mickie wont be remeberd as being a 4x WC she wont be remebered for being overrtaed she will be rembered for her being a PHYSCO.The role that made her who she is today.
Sorry, but in my opinion she will not be a legend…Sure she was the first diva to held both titles, but the Divas’ Championship was created after divas as Trish, Lita, Molly and other from the Golden Era left WWE (only Gail stills around and when Victoria was in there they didn’t give her a run for the title)…If they continued on WWE, Michelle wouldn’t be the first diva to held both titles…It would be one of them!
To “Lee” and “Goodnightddtmnm” I know its an opinion but saying “SHE WON’T BE” is what boils my blood. If its an opinion, say “In my opinion, she won’t be a legend like Trish.” Don’t be so sure because no one knows what’s going to happen.
I don’t think she is anything Special. I honestly don’t think she will be remebered, or even mentioned in the same sentence as Sherri, Mooloh, Lita, Trish, Molly, Madusa and so on. She hasn’t yet gotten over on the crowd, her mic skills are horrible, and she’s a boring character.
I like her moveset and in-ring personality, but I think she needs more years in the WWE and more championship reigns to be even near the Trish-Fame. For me, Michelle McCool just catched my eye when she turned heel by attacking Maria, and a good diva should be on WWE for a long time to be remembered after, I never heard people remembering Carmella DeCesare or Lena Yada, and not even deserving divas like Cherry and Nidia, yet you get people saying how they miss Ashley, that tells a lot. It’s a fact, people LOVE circus freaks, characters with friendly personalities, big boobs and run-to-the-bathroom-disease. Why isn’t Michelle categorized as a strong, powerful diva?! One, she’s a diva search reject, and for many (stupid as hell) fans, that’s the devil’s curse. Two, she has poor charisma, it’s true, as much as I like her, she has VERY poor charisma. So I do think McCool will not be remembered or talked about by our grandsons, but I think she deserves to be respected AND categorized as a strong, powerful, well-rounded diva!!
At the moment, the divas that I think will be remembered are Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Melina, Maria, Beth and possibly Natalya (not that I agree with the Maria, Kelly part, but it’s realistic).
