The final match for Night of Champions this Sunday was made official at last night’s SmackDown taping. Women’s Champion, Michelle McCool will defend against Melina in a rematch from The Bash.
The match, to me, is a thing of new in today’s women’s division where Divas can rarely get on the PPV cards let alone let their entire feud play out on PPV. When was the last time the same girls got to have back to back matches on pay per view? I believe it was in 2007 when Beth and Candice had a series of matches including Unforgiven and No Mercy that year. A small show of progression, I’d say.

Can’t. Wait.
Can’t wait for the match.
YESSSSSSSSSS! I honestly don’t care much for the Mickie/Maryse match. These two women had a really strong one at The Bash. Michelle McCool has easily been my favourite Diva all year and Melina has been more focused than ever in the ring, in the last few months since the draft to SmackDown.
sweeet now im just hopin they get enough time to truly shine in the ring.
I don’t think WWE could be any less interested in this feud anymore. It’s very unfair to the two women involved that WWE has hardly done anything to build to this re-match. They weren’t even on the show last week, and for no reason, WWE waited about as late as they could to announce the match. If WWE added this match to the show only because they had to due to the champion theme, they still shouldn’t treat it that way.
If these two go out there and wrestle for a totally dead crowd, management has no one but themselves to blame because they’ve done everything but tell the viewers that WWE doesn’t consider this match important.
With so many matches on the card, and the other diva feud having its first title match, I doubt this bout will be allocated with that much time. We’ll see…
I doubt this match will get much time. The WWE is obviously much more focused on Mickie/Maryse rightfully. Theyve been having a consistent long feud. Melina and Michelle really havent. Adding them on the very last day possible too gives no hype whatsoever
Anyone else find the setup of the women’s matches interesting?
The two go-to women of the new era (also the two most over), neither of whom is blonde, challenging (ugh) the two most pushed products of the Diva Search since 2007 Candice Michelle, both of whom *are* blonde, and considerably taller than their opponents. Also, Melina and Mickie had a rather intense rivalry going (and still do, in my eyes), as did Maryse and Skeletor (well, maybe not so intense, but they were feuding for ages). Oh, and the challengers also have more colourful attire, and despite the fact that the blondes are currently being pushed down our throats as the next Trish, Lita, Sable or whoever, the challengers were the last two women to feud with Trish (bar Lita).
Well, it’s interesting to me anyhow. :|
I’m extremely biased towards Melina/Mickie, as you can see.
If Michelle Wins give the title to Serena next
If Melina wins have michelle attack her afterwards “seriously injuring” her and give the title to Natalya or Michelle
or If Melina wins give the title to Natalya next
Not feeling this rivalry at all, on Raw the diva division seems fresh and exciting with the well built Maryse & Mickie rivalry and the arrivals of Gail Kim & Alicia Fox, while Smackdown is very medicore, if this wasn’t an all champion pay per view, this match wouldn’t even be on the show, there match last month was lackluster and the crowd didn’t care, hopefully this will be better but my hopes aren’t high.
i hope at the match natalya or katie run in and attacks melina that way the title doesnt change hands and they build up a triple threat for the belt……..meilna michelle and natalya/katie……or maybe even serena…..
Honestly I dont care for this match unless Melina wins the title bak.
Once again the Divas Search Divas Win again!
Notice how Melina & Mickie both are facing former diva search girls who didnt wake up at da age of 15-20 wanting to be a wrestler.
If Michelle wins then most likely she is gonna fued with eve next so.
Personally, I’m glad that there is gonna be not one…but two divas matches on the same PPV! I know, it’s only b/c its called “Night of Champions”.
I’m hoping that Melina & Mickie become champions but that’s me just wishing LOL.
Super stoked for Sunday!!!!!
If they *need* to keep this match short, then I say they take advantage of it. Having McCool squash and no-sell Melina’s offense for the duration of the match clearly didn’t work last month, so I say they build on the whole ‘McCool is intimidated’ thing by having Melina go all hellcat and crazy on her right from the beginning of the match, forcing McCool to retreat out of the ring (much like Beth last year during that tag match). McCool runs away, getting counted out, and fire is added to the feud, allowing for the feud to run a little bit longer, during which time WWE can build up a suitable challenger after McCool retains or Melina regains. It’s pretty much the only guaranteed way I can see them getting a reaction, because Melina’s attacks always fire up the crowd, and it means that they can keep it short but still give it a point, allowing for a longer match on SmackDown. Just a thought. :)
