In a sign that WWE is really PG, a thing that would have been encouraged a few years ago is now taboo in WWE. SmackDown Diva, Maria, reveals to the LA Times:
The wrestling attire for the ladies has become more conservative as well. Maria Kanellis, one of the WWE’s “diva” wrestlers, used to perform in lingerie but these days tries to dress “a little more sophisticated” for her matches.
“The guys miss it, but that’s how it goes,” she said.
Her costumes now consist of leggings, lots of “fringe outfits and things that are sparkly.” It’s not unusual, she said, for some of the girls to get reprimanded for “showing too much cleavage,” something that would’ve never happened a few years ago.
I find this really funny considering Slash’s comments. It seems like today is ‘Diva Conduct Day’ or something. I’m all for less cleavage, it’s one less thing the girls have to contend with when they want to show off their wrestling ability. Now if we could do something about the piss-poor writing, 3 minute matches and general disdain for women’s wrestling…
Random Observation: I love how they put ‘Diva’ in quotation marks. It’s like they thought, “Nah, that’s not a real occupation…” And for most of the girls it’s not.

Thats dumb. Another reason I stopped watching WWE. Stupid PG crap, they should start coming on Disney.

I really don’t mind–I can’t say I was watching wrestling for the cleavage anyways.
But I’d really like to know what warped definition Maria has for “sophisticated”. I have a feeling it involves a bedazzler and tons of faux feathers.

im against tht pg thingy too…let every diva dress the way she want…seeing maria in lingerie is way better than those dc universe attires she uses now

While I have never been much of a Maria fan, at least she never stuck feathers onto her lingerie…at least not the ones she wore in public at least.
Especially after seeing that picture of her in the Slash article I say take away her bedazzling privileges and hand her a bra and pantie set. Or at least just take away her bedazzling privileges.

I don’t really mind the PG rating, but when it gets to the point that WWE loses complete interest in the Divas, then we have a problem…
Which is what’s happening right now.

I’m happy about the PG rating when it comes to the Divas. I personally don’t want to see the Divas with cleavage hanging out and them wearing outfits that are too revealing. That’s one of the things that turns me off about the Knockouts, alot of them are so trashy and come off pretty skanky. I like my women wrestlers to have some class

@Sasha Really? I like my women wrestlers to have talent. Which is exactly why I prefer the knockouts.

I’m a straight guy, and I really don’t mind them dressing more conservatively (I did at first, now I’m used to it), I just wished they ATLEAST get new outfits, every once in awhile, jeez its the same thing every week, just in a different color. See, you notice in TNA, every person has there own unique style, and in TNA (being TV14 and all) has more to work with/changes outfit into something new the next week, but come on most of the divas have the same exact outfit…case an point Rosa Mendez/Katie Lee Burchill along with others.

I’d hesitantly agree with you palaceofwisdom. If the WWE doesn’t even see fit to push the Divas as eye candy anymore I worry about how much further the division could sink into the background going into the future.

I’m sorry. I’m still stuck on the Maria dressing ‘a little more sophisticated’ part…
