Say what you will about the Women’s Champion, Michelle McCool, but there is no denying that she has a good head on her shoulders. Despite being chalked up as a hate figure by Internet wrestling fans and even some ‘newz’ sites, McCool is quick to address and laugh off insults and criticism thrown her way. That’s my kinda gal!

In an interview with our friends at MichelleMcCool.net, the history-making Diva talks about all sorts of topics including picking her Night of Champions match with Melina as her favourite match so far. And we are inclined to agree:

Melina has been great to work with and our NOC match is by far my all time favorite. I am very proud of that match and what we were able to do….work wise, psychology wise, everything! :) It was great to put our minds together and go, “What could we do that hasn’t been done before?” It was actually nice because even a few of the guys said, “Man, I wish I would have thought of that!” :) We don’t always get opportunities, so we wanted to take full advantage of it.

The Women’s Champ continues about what she’d like to see in the women’s division, validating what fans would like to see too:

Things have definitely changed, and continue to, as far as the role of divas in wrestling. It’s just refreshing when you receive a lot of praise and appreciation for an actual wresting match. I would give anything to have a no DQ match, a street fight, something. I can promise you this….it’d be one you wouldn’t forget! Blood sweat and tears…it’d all be left in the arena!!!

Things turn a little darker, as McCool turns her attention to the whirlpool of criticism, not least extending to claims that she stole AJ Styles’ [though he isn't named] finisher, the Styles Clash — known as the ‘Faith Breaker’ in WWE:

Yeah, that seems to be the hot topic with some Twitter “fans!” 99% of the time I move on. Sometimes, and normally only when people are out of line with their message, I answer to entertain myself. Regardless, the answer is always the same. From headlocks to rollups, it’s all been done before – yadayadayada. Plus, it works! Why would I not want to do it?

It’s not as though Ms McCool isn’t aware of her ‘status’, shall we say, on the Internet and I find it even more heartening that she’s able to brush it off. Never has there been a Diva quite as Boleyn-esque in fans’ attempts to plot her downfall. Most recently ‘reports’ of the situation Michelle touches on above, with the implication that she has heat in a company that she doesn’t even work for. Considering the source’s history [Victoria-Benoit], it’s not something that we were in a rush to report. I’m glad to see the Champ has a tougher skin than most & rolls with the punches — even throwing some of her own. She’s certainly gonna need that thick hide with people jumping at the opportunity to proverbiabally behead her, a la Anne Boleyn.

  1. She’s becoming quite underrated in the WWE Universe! Not in WWE, but outside people just hate her!

You can clearly see when someone really loves wrestling, if a person says how she loves Ashley, Maria and Candice and than say how he/she hates Michelle or Jillian, you can see that person doesn’t give a sweet about wrestling, they just like to watch women in “cute” outfits and “keepin it real”

And there are those that are all about “real wrestling” and “TNA RULEZZZ” and “Diva Search Rejects SUCKZZ”, so yeah, those are idiotic too, divas like, Layla, Michelle, Maryse, Eve, Tiffany, Bellas, Angela Fong…showed average-to-good wrestling abilities and some [McCool and Layla] showed great promises with their in-ring skills! :D

  2. Michelle McCool has EASILY been Diva of the year, in my eyes. She handles her haters and detractors classily. I like how she strongly defends her territory against naysayers who are constantly finding an excuse to bash her. Quite frankly I’ve been sickened by this blind, IWC hate of her. She has developed into a very talented wrestler and works very effectively as a heel.

I agree on the NOC match with Melina being her best. While she was a face I enjoyed her matches against Maryse too. Also liked her in Victoria’s last WWE singles match in January. I hope she gets to work with Mickie as well as Beth and Gail again (two she’s already had matches against).

She seems like a nice person who’s loving life. Hope to see her back in the ring really soon.

  3. Divas of the year are by far MELINA and MICHELLE!! PWI must be blind by their winner choice! Mickie??? Really?! I love Mickie, but Melina and Michelle owned in 2009!

  4. Michelle has really been growing on me and has recently become on of my All-Time favorite Divas.
I just adore how she handles the hatred directed towards her & realises its just silly.
I really hope her WWE career continues to be extraordnary. And by the way why is everyone Talking about the year? I mean its obvious that 2009 has been Michelle’s & Melina’s year, But it isnt over yet :).

  5. Yes, Michelle is a good wrestler and she knows how to handle all those people who hate her, but we can’t forget she stole that move. I’m pretty sure that everyone already read the reports about the subject. AJ started to use it first. When a wrestler inventes/makes popular a move, you can’t start using it without ask him first.

I’m sorry if I offended someone!

  6. If we’re talking about Slammy Diva of the year candidates, my predictions would be Melina, Michelle McCool, Maryse, and possibly Mickie James (There’s usually four, isn’t there?).
Those are the divas that have had great title acheivements over the year (all four of them), or shown great improvement (in Michelle and Maryse’s case)

I like Michelle. She comes across as being a great person that knows that you can’t take this wrestling world too seriously, and just have to take rude comments on the chin.

  7. Crash Holly was using the Styles Clash before AJ.

  8. Yes, I know it, but Crash Holly is dead (RIP). After his death, AJ was the first using the move. Michelle started using it after him. She should have asked permission to use it. Once again, I’m sorry if I offended someone.

  9. Thannya – Michelle doesn’t need permission from someone whose not even the first person to use the Styles Clash, so basically his opinion if he even cared about Michelle using the move does not matter, because he wasn’t the first to use it. RIP Crash, and thank you for making one sick move, I love it.

  10. Oh, I love how Michelle handles situations. She’s definitely classy when it comes to handling situations like that, because I can name a handful of Divas that would act extremely immature over that.

  11. thannya – if michelle copied aj, then 1/3 of the divas copied, jake the snake roberts, and melina copied, amazing red, and all the divas probbally never created there finisher, so why does, everyone say michelle steals finishers, and not any of the other divas???

  12. I’m not trying to insult Michelle or something like that. As I can’t publish here the link, write “Heat, TNA, Michelle” on your search engine and you will understand about waht I’m talking about. Maybe I didn’t explain it well.

  13. I don’t like her because she’s good at her job. I’ve put aside all of the supposed Taker/Pull backstage stuff. She’s got an immense amount of respect in my eyes because she works hard and loves her job. It was apparent when she completely shined in her interview with mm.net.

  14. Thannya – We all understand the accusation of Michelle McCool stealing AJ Styles move, even though it was never his move to begin with since he didn’t make the move, he just used it like Michelle. Therefore, the argument that she’d need to ask AJ Styles if she can use the move is irrelevant since he too, didn’t create the move, and he isn’t bashing McCool for using it. Some of the internet fans are bashing her for using it, which seems foolish since they aren’t Styles, and clearly Styles does not give two cents about whether another wrestler is using the same move as him.

McCool handled the situation respectfully, and she shouldn’t, plus I’m glad that she didn’t ask to use the move since it’s not a rule to ask it’s just proper etiquette, and Styles was not the first wrestler to ever use the move, so moving on.

I’d love to see a match-up involving McCool in something that we’re not using to like a street fight, but I doubt we’ll ever see it, and I doubt she’ll ever have a match-up like that working for the WWE.
