Armchair Creative Team is back! And this time we are booking this Friday’s SmackDown 10th anniversary special. Considered the ‘season premiere’ of SmackDown, the annual special usually features tri-branded matches and Superstars and Divas from all three brands. Last year, we had a champion vs champion match when then-Women’s Champ, Beth Phoenix defeated then-Divas Champ, Michelle McCool in a singles match. If this year’s main event is anything to go by, it looks like this year’s ‘season premiere’ will feature more of the same interpromotional goodness! As always, read our match ideas & vote for your favourite!
Melanie’s Ideas
Champion vs Champion: Michelle McCool vs Mickie James — Pretty much following the formula from last year’s SmackDown season premiere. SmackDown’s own, the Women’s Champion Michelle McCool would face the Divas Champion, Mickie James in a singles match. And perhaps like past champion vs champion matches, you could even have the entire Divas roster serving as lumberjacks. Unlike past champion vs champion matches, this one would be even more about brand pride than ever before! Both Mickie and Michelle are born-and-bred on their brands, Michelle has been with SmackDown for her entire career and Mickie, the same on Raw. The brand pride these two would be fighting for, therefore, would be that much more amplified. They have shared some good chemistry in the past and this would be a dream match of sorts.
Melina & Mickie James vs Alicia Fox & Michelle McCool — Perhaps my personal favourite idea is to see these two dream teams back together again! There’s storyline progression to be had here, plus also nostalgia to be served. Melina is pretty much the #1 Contender for McCool’s Women’s Championship and same for Fox to James’ Divas Championship. Thus, this match would be in keeping with storyline. However, there’s also some fun personal history here. Before being drafted to SmackDown, Melina & Mickie’s friendship on Raw was really cute to see and they worked so well as a tag team. Meanwhile, Alicia Fox has made good after that brief period as Michelle’s understudy on SmackDown — she is now the #1 Contender for the Divas Title! For old times sake, why not reunite mentor and student? Could be a great interpromotional match.
Beth Phoenix vs Michelle McCool — Arguably, the two top badass heels in WWE right now. This would be a rematch from last year, when these two faced off as Beth put Michelle out with the Glam Slam. This year however, times have changed — Michelle is now rivalling the Glamazon in the bad girl stakes. This could make for an interesting matchup and show much progression from their match last year as both are now on a more even playing field.

Alicia Fox vs. Layla — Alicia and Layla are arguably their brand’s fastest rising stars, getting more and more opportunities as of late to bask in the spotlight. They may both be heels, but that wouldn’t detract from the match–they’re both feisty and competitive, so it’s not like they’d consider it friendly competition just because they’re both “bad girls”. I’d love to see them go one-on-one and really show off the skills they’ve acquired and the characters they’re developing: one match showcasing the future of the WWE.
Melina vs. Mickie James — Sure, they’re both babyfaces, but haven’t you heard of friendly competition? They’ve got a good deal of history between them, and it would be exciting to see them face off again for the first time in a long time. Maybe the old animosity would resurface, but if not, their competitiveness would be enough to drive the match. Part of the draw would be the dilemma the fans would be under–who to root for? Both are their brand’s biggest babyfaces. Would it be merely a nostalgic trip or a 5-star match? With the unpredictability of these two, you never know..
RAW vs. SD: Jillian, Kelly Kelly, & Rosa Mendes vs. Eve Torres, Maria, & Natalya — This would be a bit of a “Strange Bedfellows” match, teaming babyfaces with heels. The mission would be to put your differences aside and fight for your respective brand. Girls who would otherwise be stuck backstage could get an opportunity to wrestle and compete against people they otherwise wouldn’t interact with. It would be pretty interesting to see if Natalya and Eve could coexist, or if Rosa could keep her attitude in check with happy-go-lucky Kelly. Those types of factors make the match worth booking.

I really like McFoxxy vs Melina James!
At the same time, I would love to see Mickie vs Michelle just because they’ve never gone one on one…the possibilities are endless. Hopefully someone from the ‘E is going to read this and maybe, just maybe we’ll get a great divas match!
The match I’d want to see is Champ vs. champ but I doubt it would happen. But if I was to book it, I’d have to put a match between Natalya and Beth Phoenix, I’d buy Wrestlemania alone just for that match.
Nice ideas. The Michelle McCool vs. Mickie James match-up definitely keeps my eyes open.
I’d love to see Fox/McCool teaming up once more, but as Survivor Series is quickly approaching, it’d be nice for them to plant the seeds for that with a Champ vs Champ match (considering the champions are likely to be the team captains). They can even have the other ladies as lumberjills, with the match culminating in an all out brand vs brand brawl.

I love the idea of Michelle vs Mickie, i’ve wanted to see that match ever since they clashed at survivor series last year. Theres been a few hints that the match could happen but nothing has come of it but fingers crossed.
All of them are great ideas, however I think everyone wants to see Michelle vs Mickie
Michelle v Mickie for sure. There exchange during the Survivor Series match a few months ago made me really excited for what the could do in a one on one match and they’re both the champs. Makes sense.
But please god not another multi diva tag match.
