This week on Impact marked a Knockout Elimination tag team match and a Knockouts Title match.

First, Team Hamada/Christy Hemme/Sarita/Taylor Wilde take on Team Velvet Sky/Madison Rayne/Traci Brooks/Alissa Flash.

Hamada and Traci briefly lock up, but Hamada takes Traci down.  Hamada attempts a springboard moonsault, but Traci dodges in the nick of time.  When Traci goes for the Sunset Flip, Hamada rolls out, allowing Traci the opportunity to avoid a kick and attempt a school boy roll-up.  Hamada kicks out, ducks a clothesline, and finally connects with a kick.  Hamada goes for the cover, but Traci gets the shoulder up.

Christy Hemme gets tagged in.  She isn’t able to put up much of a fight before being eliminated ala a jawbreaker courtesy of Traci.  Taylor then enters the match on her team’s behalf and covers Traci following a dropkick.  Alissa Flash distracts Taylor for a moment, and Traci capitalizes with a clothesline before tagging in Alissa.  Alissa bestows the Curb Stomp upon Taylor, who gets the shoulder up at 2.  Taylor retaliates with a double knee backbreaker and a tag out to Hamada.  Hamada drops Alissa with a resounding front dropkick from the top turnbuckle.  With a bit of residual aggression from their bubbling feud, the fight between the two adversaries spill out to the back.

Meanwhile, Sarita takes Velvet to the limit with a series of armdrags.  Velvet kicks out.  Sarita tags in Taylor, and in a double team display, Velvet is taken down by a drop toehold and a dropkick.  Velvet kicks out yet again.  In yet another pinning predicament, Velvet kicks out of a double wrist clutch Northern Lights Suplex.  In somewhat of a surprise element at play here, Velvet Sky is able to ensure a victory over Taylor Wilde with a DDT.  It comes down to 3 on 1.

Sarita enters the match, attempting a dropkick but she misses.  Velvet tags in Traci, who is quickly eliminated by a belly-to-belly suplex.  The Beautiful People bum-rush Sarita and are able to get the upper hand for the majority of the remainder of the match.  That is, until Sarita is able to outsmart the duo and eliminate Velvet with the Small Package.  Madison Rayne goes for a suplex, but Sarita counters with yet another inside cradle.  Madison kicks out, and she kicks out again from a schoolboy attempt.

Alissa Flash seems to be making her way down the ramp onscreen, at the perturbation of the referee.  Back in the ring, Sarita takes Madison out with a powerbomb, however the referee is distracted long enough for Lacey Von Erich to approach the ring and plant Sarita with a lifting body slam.  Madison gets the win for her team.

With a few high spots, this was an overall decent match.  A few of the eliminations were just a tad weak, but it served its purpose – which was to sustain the feuds.  Velvet was made to look somewhat strong in this match, being able to kick out of a few predicaments and to score a pinfall the way she did.  That will be a rub going into the Tag Team title match. Lacey Von Erich also fulfilled her role rather fittingly.  That lifting body slam was eloquently executed, and to her credit Lacey is already differentiating herself by adopting a less Diva-oriented moveset.  Which, ideally, complements the whole “third generation” persona.  In the words of Roddy Piper “old school is cool!”  For what it’s worth, the Beautiful People now seem to work for the best interest of the team.  Looking back, that isn’t something we’ve seen often from them.  Definitely, a new side of Mi Pi Sexy in more ways than one.

Next, is the TNA Knockouts Championship competition between Tara and ODB.

ODB and Tara come to blows at the start of the match.  Tara is whipped into the corner, is caught mid-transition, but dodges the Running Powerslam.  After an exchange of pinning attempts, neither one is able to pick up a pinfall.  ODB goes back on the offense with a shot to the midsection.  ODB lifts Tara up for a vertical suplex, but Tara grounds herself.  She then lifts ODB in the same position, matching her strength, but ODB sandbags as well.  Tara lands a series of shots, runs the ropes, and attempts a crossbody, but ODB catches her in mid-air.  ODB seems to have trouble lifting Tara over, but she eventually succeeds with the Fallaway Slam and a kip-up for good measure.  ODB goes for the cover, but Tara gets the shoulder up before the count of 3.

At that moment, Awesome Kong makes her way into the Impact Zone with a sledgehammer in tow.  Tara looks on, but the distraction costs her.  Kong goes after So Cal Val just as Tara is able to turn her luck around with what seems like an armbar/gogoplata hybrid (don’t quote me on that).  Kong “coerces” Val to place Poison the Tarantula in the line of fire, but Tara stops Kong in her tracks.  This abstraction allows ODB to blindsight Tara with the TKO for the 3-count.

This was a weak match (especially for a title match), but that is the payoff for an overall weak feud.  I still struggle to realize just where ODB fits into the mix.  It’s safe to anticipate a triple-threat-match sometime in the future, most likely with the title on the line (preferably at the next PPV).  Hopefully, that will put an end to this already unsatisfactory ménage à trois.

i was impressed by LVE this week. She brought something diffrent to the table with that choke slam.

For a change for the better or worse, I see no senority within the beauitule people.

That elimination match was fun. Everyone looked really on point tonight. Even the weaker workers like Velvet, Christy and Traci were good in what they did. The brawl between Alissa and Hamada makes me want even more from them, they are just too good! I see they’re trying to build credibility with Velvet, she managed to kick out of several pin attempts by Taylor and she got a clean pinfall on her with the DDT.

Sarita was excellent going up against the remaining women. Fast and great moves. The fans really seem to get behind her, she wrestles almost like a female X-division wrestler. That tiger driver on Madison at the end was sick. Good to see Madison getting some offense in AND her first win. Lacey served her purpose effectively. If they make her an enforcer type, like Rob Terry is for the British Invasion, she could work out well with TBP.

Madison didnt really look comfortable shaking her ass on the ropes like Velvet/Angelina always do.

that elimination tag was possibly the best KO match they’ve had since hamada’s debut.

the singles match.. eh, i really can’t care for that belt right now and it sucks. tara vs kong should be a dream feud and i just can’t seem to get into it.

The elimination tag was good but underwhelming with the way they did some of the eliminations. And IDK how believeable it is to see Lacey VE doing a chokeslam. It wasn’t executed badly however.

Kong with the sledgehammer had me in giggles for some reason. I loved it!

“i was surprised there were no high spots in a match featuring the KO tag champs”

This match was to buildup TBP, so Sarita/Taylor had to tone down their style a little bit. If they would’ve been allowed to showcase all their stuff, it would humiliate TBP, and with the upcoming match at BFG thats not something you want.

that Tiger Driver on madison by sarita was SICK,the best tiger driver i’ve seen sarita do,Madison sold it very well.Lacey Von erich looked GORGEOUS like always, that chokeslam was perfect, nice job lacey

I’m really liking this whole ODB-Tara-Kong fued, they added ODB because the fued was to big not the have the KO title so yeah.I think when the match happens,i think it will be very good

the elimination match is one of my favorites,i watch it like 20 times on my DVR,the match is just great, the only quick elimination was christy,it really showed how weak she is IMO

Well, it probably is not believable for Lacey Von Erich to perform a chokeslam because… that was not what she did. Mike Tenay called it erratically, which might have brought up the confusion, but that was not the Chokeslam. More like a standing/lifting body slam, as there was no “choking” involved (Lacey braces her arm on Sarita’s shoulder). It’s gotten people riled up, however. Funny enough, it’s already earned Lacey some incongruous comparisons to Kane or even the Great Khali. When, that isn’t the case just yet.

I wouldn’t call it a Kane chokeslam as the arm was sort of hooked around Sarita, but for LVE to pull it off and with some OOMPH behind it, I say an improvement.

Chokeslam or not, it was definitely an improvement on her debut as well as the claw. Yes, the claw is iconic but it just doesn’t work in this day and age; not only has she got tiny hands but I doubt even that many of today’s wrestling watchers know who the Von erichs were.

I’d love for her to incorporate the claw into a finisher, though. Perhaps a claw-hold STO (similar to Salinas/Ariel’s chokehold STO) or, hell, even a “clawslam”.

I really hope some of the talent are helping her out backstage. Working on TNA yet receiving training backstage from the likes of Kong, Alissa etc? Must be a dream come true for her.

I love the stiff action between Hamada/Alissa Flash, because it adds something new to the Knockout’s Division. I really do think each wrestler brings something “different” to the Division.

Did anyone notice the little tease at the end with Alissa Flash and the Beautiful People? I wonder if TNA is thinking ahead and if something does happen with Lacey Von Erich, then they would be able to slide Alissa Flash into the Beautiful People as their hired hand.

I hate spiders, so I would carry a huge sledgehammer also if someone left a big hairy nasty spider in a box around me. Awesome Kong’s facial expressions were funny during the little segment with SoCal Val at ringside.

    Was thinking the same thing.

The Tag Team Elimination match was cool. And all the stuff Sarita did with Madison and Velvet was entertaining.

If Kong sledgehammered that spider, the animal services would’ve been all over TNA like a rash.

The elimination tag was entertaining and seemed to be designed as part of the set-up towards the Sarita/Taylor TBP rematch at BFG. Sarita and Taylor had strong moments, partic liked the taylow / Alissa exchanges however brief they were. Velvet looked more impressive than in many previous outings and TNA may be pushing here as the strong link as Madison although she had some moments and got a fall would have lost to but for interference initially from Alissa on the walkway then more strongly Lacey in ring. LVE certainly was responsible for the win. I was hoping that Madison would have been given a stronger role and a cleaner win.

No real disgrace for the champs to lose in this way, but the really interesting thing IMO was Alissa’s appearance at the end. Not too sure where this is going, is she going to be an enforcer, or is she still following the initial feud with Sarita. I want to see more of Alissa, TNA have a marvellous opportunity in the coming weeks if Alissa, Sarita, Hamada are booked well..

Sojo Bolt is the only knockout that isn’t on television that much. But how this girl keep her job? She can be valet for D’angelo Dinero.

I enjoyed the elimination match although i wish it could have been for PPV and lasted longer.
The ODB v Tara match was a bit sloppy in place but i’m looking forward to the 3 way now

    BTW

“what seems like an armbar/gogoplata hybrid (don’t quote me on that).”

    It’s called a triangle choke.

  • Tiffany
    October 11, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Eh…I’m not so sure about that. I considered that at first, but it does not seem like Tara is choking ODB in that hold. Tara has her legs wrapped around ODB’s arm in a quote-on-quote “armbar.” I’m not sure if there is any choking involved to render it a “triangle choke.” Again, don’t quote me on that.

  • xxQOXxx
    October 11, 2009 at 5:34 pm

She has her arm and head trapped between her legs

    Like this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3271896125850455644#
    And this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_choke

Sorry to get anal but from what i can see, it’s a Triangle Choke.

No need to apologize for being anal. You’re free to call the move a “Triangle Choke” if you’d like. From what I see, you wouldn’t be incorrect.
