Raw celebrity guest, Maria Menounos has spoken on her stint on Monday night. The former One Tree Hill actress reveals to Boston.com that she requested a chance to wrestle:
“They agreed,’’ Maria told us yesterday, “so I took six training sessions and learned the different moves – the leg drop, the arm drag, the sunset flip.’’
Maria also reveals that she suffered a small injury during her in-ring debut & reveals her idea to team with the ‘real’ Maria, SmackDown’s Maria Kanellis:
“I kind of smashed my tailbone on that flip, but I got some ice on it and I’m fine,’’ she said. “I told Vince I want to come back with (wrestler) Maria Kanellis as ‘The Golden Greeks’ and come out to ‘Zorba the Greek’ music.’’
It really looks like Maria took the opportunity and made the best of it. I surprisingly enjoyed her stint. As a lifelong fan of WWE, Menounos really respected the opportunity given to her by taking the appropriate crash course beforehand, which I think is commendable. As I mentioned in the Redux yesterday, I thought she looked good in the ring and had a great presence. I most certainly wouldn’t mind to see her come back and do a match here & there and the word is that WWE was very happy with her performance and plan to offer her more appearances in the future. Perhaps she could be the ‘celebrity involvement’ for WrestleMania 26?

the only disappointing thing about that match, was highlighting just how rubbish the diva trainers must be in fcw. having some tv presenter come in and outshine some divas who have been doing it for years? ouch.

WWE should really handle training their own divas to their full potential. I have nothing against Maria Menounos. I actually like her ” a little ” better than the other Maria. But, WWE is pining in on how good she did and this is true! But she still suffered injuries during that training. And looking at this realistically, her size (yes, even the thinnest divas are somewhat meatier than she is) would probably make her injury prone. So besides the special occasion celebrity involvements – please, just focus on your current Divas.

@Kalendra: She learned a FEW moves, and in this match she didnt have to improvise, she knew exactly what to do. When she would go 1 on 1 against a diva in a 5 minute match, then the match would probably end up like Gayda’s first match. You need lots of training before you can work a real match. And you cant really blame the FCW trainers, just take a look at the male wrestlers that they trained, thats a very impressive list. But this maria had the advantage that she is an experienced actress, so unlike the rookie FCW divas she knows how to make herself look good.

well the only trainers down at FCW are Steve Keirn, Tom Pritchard, Billy Kidman, and Norman Smiley

but Mikas, can you honestly say any of the fcw trained divas are really any good other than angela? alicia was lucky enough to learn the basics elsewhere, same with maryse. i miss the days of ovw and dsw. developmental territories actually developing talented women would be a nice change.
i’m glad maria went elsewhere for what little training she did do.

The Bella Twins, Tiffany, Angela and Courtney are the only divas that were only trained by FCW, the others (Alicia, Rosa, Eve etc all started in OVW). When a diva has a background in dancing (Angela, Alicia, Layla, Eve), gymnastics (Kelly, Eve) or martial arts (Eve, Maryse) the trainers can use that in the training. But for the models without any athletic background (bellas, tiffany and courtney) there isnt much the trainers can do. Those models just arent psysically build to wrestle, so you cant really blame it on the trainers. You can let them push the girls harder in training, but that will only injure them. Although i do think it would be a good thing for FCW to hire a female trainer like Molly or Jazz to prepare the FCW divas better.

Maria did great and she has a respect for the business, if she really wanted to train and learn she obviously could. I mean seriously, how much smaller is she than Kelly Kelly, Maria, Alicia, or the Bellas? She could easily be a WWE Diva, she’s gorgeous and a pretty decent actress. She trained for eight days and was pretty impressive, I think she could do a lenghty match with a good opponent if she did the work. But I agree that they need a female trainer to work with the girls or hell, just get Finlay back in there, that was awesome.
