The Tiffany Guide to Impact: A Beautiful Mess

This week on Impact, TNA finds new ways to bring the ratings lulz (SUPER 3 hour promo show… really?) while The Tiffany Guide finds its way into your hearts via a computer screen.  Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne, and Lacey Von Erich take on Awesome Kong, Tara, and ODB in tag team competition.

First off, let it be known – I’m not a fan of choreographed entrances in any capacity.  They just seem so unnatural, gratuitous, and rather lame.  So… I’m not really feeling this new Beautiful People entrance.  It just seems far too unrefined and hokey (not to mention homoerotic.  Come on, Taylorita had that market cornered first).  As relatively simple as it was, the original entrance was just fine.  I was hoping that Lacey would just take Angelina’s place in the original choreography.   Understandably, this new group will take some getting used to – the viewers need to get comfortable with the new lineup just as much as the members do.  Plus, it seems like they might’ve been pressed for time and might’ve thought to just throw something together on the fly.  That being said, the “Beautiful People” has slowly transformed into somewhat of a parody of itself.  This entrance is merely Exhibit A.  What was once comical and somewhat charming is now in-your-face and reminiscent of high school glory days.  I can almost see it in Madison Rayne’s face – poor girl looks distressed, and who wouldn’t be?  Though, Lacey (who has somehow managed to escape the notorious clown makeup and mini-skirt getup) looks pretty incredible.  Looking at her, I feel like I should have no room to complain.  Well, at least they all match right?

Tara makes her way to the ring (looking as stunning as ever), and Awesome Kong enters the Impact Zone with Raisha Saeed in tow.  Funny thing is, I completely forgot about ODB.  Her involvement in this match didn’t cross my mind until she made her entrance.  What could be a testament to my ailing memory, I’d rather blame on TNA’s booking inability.  The title holder and forefront of the division = forgettable?  That’s rather unfortunate.

At the start of the match, Awesome Kong quickly takes down her squabbling partners.  The Beautiful People fly in like vultures to pick at the leftovers.  The boiling rivalry between Kong and Tara comes to a head yet again.  Meanwhile, ODB endures the 3 on 1 onslaught.  The Beautiful People continue to cut the ring in half with the Knockouts Champion until Tara crawls back to her rightful corner.  ODB overpowers Madison Rayne (who has proven herself as the star of this match) which results in a near double count-out.  Both ladies make the tag out to their respective partners.  Tara hurries into the ring, bulldozing both Velvet and Madison down in her path.  She appoints a nice slap across Lacey’s face for good measure.  Tara sets Velvet up for a moonsault, but ODB makes a blind tag.  ODB sets Velvet on top of her shoulders for the apparent finish, but Tara disrupts in retaliation.  A staredown commences between the two Knockouts before Tara finally takes ODB down with a superkick.  Velvet quickly makes the pin and picks up the win for her team.  More gratuitous ass!

Somehow, I don’t feel so apologetic for discounting ODB’s presence.  The way she’s booked, it doesn’t seem like TNA could give much of a care either.  This three-way rivalry lost its purpose long ago; I’m just pulling for a conclusion come Bound for Glory.

On the other hand, Lacey did not get as much time in the ring – not that I expected her to, really.  Lacey has plenty of time to prove her in-ring ability, and it’s in TNA’s best interest to be patient.  At the very least, she has proven to have some amount of charisma thus far… right?  She seems very comfortable in the role of a Beautiful Person (as opposed to Madison) and doesn’t seem to have many inhibitions. If all else fails, let Madison be the muscle (so to speak).  She has already shown that she can work her way around a six-sided ring – at least with much more skill than her sorority sisters.

Next up: the Hamada vs. Alissa Flash grudgefest continues.

Alissa Flash blindsights Hamada as she makes her way to the ring.  Not wasting any time, Alissa monkey flips Hamada down the ramp and then fetches a table out from under the ring.  Hamada is able to counter and respond with a kick to Alissa’s face.  She attempts a springboard moonsault, but Alissa catches her by the ankle and drags her down from the ring apron.  Alissa Flash then bestows the Curbstomp upon Hamada.  The fight spills out toward the stage, and Alissa tries to scoop slam Hamada off of the ramp.  However, Hamada is able to power out and pushes Alissa off instead.  Hamada hits a senton on top of Alissa and goes for the cover.  Alissa Flash kicks out at 2, but just barely.

Hamada then leads Alissa toward the table.  Alissa resists but walks into a spinning kick for her efforts.  Hamada sets Alissa on top of the table and goes for a moonsault off of the top turnbuckle.  However, Alissa makes quite a speedy recovery and takes the fight to Hamada on the ring apron.  She alludes to a suplex onto the table, but Hamada sandbags and lands a DDT on the skirt of the ring.  Ouch.  Hamada leads Alissa onto the table once again, and this time there is no getting up for Alissa Flash.  Hamada hits the moonsault from the top and crashes her opponent into the table for the 3-count.

Pretty exciting match overall.  This was the highlight for the Knockouts this week, and it definitely trumps other Diva Anywhere Fall matches we’ve seen in the past.  It’s matches like these that put the Knockouts on the map in terms of female wrestling in the states.  Anything involving either Hamada or Alissa Flash almost always guarantees hardcore.  In that aspect, this match did not disappoint.  For the time limit of 10 minutes it was given, it was a bit brief.  However, they managed to fit a good handful of spots into the time that they did use.

So, Alissa Flash loses yet another match.  Too bad, too sad.  At least she looks great doing it.  Notice how her jacket doesn’t budge throughout the entire match.  That’s a fashionista right there.  Win or lose – this is a great showing for both of these immensely talented Knockouts.  This is one Knockout feud that won’t be getting stale any time soon.

Hopefuly this Alissa/Hamada rivalry does continue and it isn’t dropped like the Sarita one was (although it made sense due to the tag stuff).

ODB is definitely the most boring KO champion ever – moreso than Taylor was! Cannot wait until either Kong reclaims it or Tara finally gets a proper reign this weekend at Bound for Glory!

As for TBP.. eh, I mark no more. The Divas of TNA.

I agree LACEY IS HOT!!, I dont even care that she cant wrestle LOL.

I hope that Kong regains the title, and TNA have Tara chase her for it. Hamada/Flash was AWESOME, Love seeing the Knockouts completely tear eachother apart, and this was no exception, I think Hamada/Kong will be awesome when the time comes, and Sarita/Kong when it arises down the road too.

I’m pretty sure ODB is basically a transitional champion. Let Kong win the title at BFG so you can then set up a big feud between herself and Tara chasing. Once Tara does win put her over more meaningfully than that flukey win July. HOPEFULLY TNA has that on the cards.

Velvet and Madison are working better together. Lacey took a pretty nice bump off the apron when Tara hit her.

Overall I am looking forward to both Knockouts matches on the PPV. Just hope they’re given enough time.

Hamada/Flash FTW!!!! Damn seriously elevate these two in the coming months and carry on the feud. The only objections were that it was a bit on the short side and Alissa lost again. They seriously need to give her some wins now! Feed her a Sojo or a Christy or something, just to show people what she can do. This match should have gone to the 10-minute time limit, thus a draw.

Am I the only one here who doesn’t find Lacey even remotely sexy? She looks a bit Valley Girl to me. The constant “Did I remember to turn the iron off?” face.

Kaledrina, you need to know that Lacey calls L-A her home, though billed as being from Dallas, TX. Reason for LA, she runs an ad biz out there.

By the way, Hamada/Flash…EPIC YES! Aside from Kong, those two bring the power side in the K-O division. ODB, not so much. SariTaylor add the speed and finesse.

But back to the bimboest of the bimbos called The Beautiful People, Why she chooses California with all their f-ups and quakes, two leftist feminazis for Senators (Boxer Feinstein), a walking botox ad for a Speaker of The house (Pelosi) and lest i forget a has-been actor with Kennedy ties, whose father was a Nazi, for governor…IS BEYOND ME!

    But that’s just me!

hamada vs alissa could have been a bit better
    but it was still cool,

the tag match was ok, im a bit sick of kong hitting tara and running away
    its getting stale

While we always struggle to find any positive comments for Maria, we’ll always be able to compliment Lacey’s looks. She’s easily got that going for the time being. She’s still only 23. Hopefully it was just immaturity that lead to her release at WWE developmental.

Have to agree tough that ODB is the most boring Knockout Champ. Hasn’t she been using the same gimmick since OVW. I can understand if TNA wanted to reward her for her service, but she’s had the belt way too long. She’s just not over as a champion. TNA must know it too if they keep booking her in 3-ways with Tara & Kong.

Yes I agree ODB is the most boring Knockout Champion To Date. Its like I said before her gimmick is retarted to me…it dosent look Championship materiel. She was better off teaming up with Cody Deaner and winning every once in a while. How many matches have she lost since she has gotten the title every time i see a match she is loosing. That is a shame.

TBP….Angelina Love is and will always be my favorite TNA Knockout…but ever since she left Velvet & Madison r getting the Pinfalls and air time. Madison stands out to me more than she did when angleina was still there.B4 she was just like the thrid wheel.

Alissa looses again…now that we got Cheerleader Melissa out in the ring like we all wanted she losses….good match though

OMG,i’m loving the new beautiful people entrance,it’s sp perfectly done, especially the entrance stage one.Lacey is seriously dropdead GORGEOUS,Like what some others have said,I don’t care if she can’t wrestler but she did sell Taras hit on her perfectly.Madison gets her second win in TNA,YEAH BABY!!!!

the Tara/ODB/kong fued has been nicely set-up,i’m looking forward to there match at BFG

the hamada/alissa match was just GOLD,I was hoping alissa would win but I knew she wouldn’t,she’s basically been used to put over new talent.I was surprised that alissa could wrestler so well with that leather jacket on.I hope this fued continues so alissa gets to beat hamada at least once

seriously guys.. we’re applauding/excusing lacey’s in ring work (and lack thereof) JUST because she’s better than average looking? is this some sort of alternate reality?

The Hamada-Alissa match was great, although much too short. I do hope they make it a long feud, and not end it as soon as Hamada has 2 victories. The Sarita-Alissa feud was ended too quickly.

The ODB-Tara-Kong feud doesnt interest me. Basicly all matches these 3 knockouts had over the past month were under 4 minutes. And every match had interference by someone, not a single clean pin sofar. And we dont even know who the faces/heels are. I dont know if Vince Russo writes the storylines for the knockouts, but the ODB-Kong-Tara feud definately smells like the standard Russo-script. I hope ODB looses the title tomorrow at the PPV so that we can have a normal Kong-Tara feud, one with longer matches this time.

I trust that things will pick up for the KO’s singles title after BFG. I’d imagine TNA want to run a straight up Kong/Tara feud. Like I said in my previous post, I think she is only a transitional champion to set up the inevtible ‘main’ feud between her two opponents. I haven’t been particularly interested in ODB in over a year, though she has a better finisher now. She hasn’t done anything new outside of that.

Let Kong and Tara battle as it’d look a lot more serious.

“I don’t care if she can’t wrestler…” Honestly, how can you call yourself a wrestling fan when you don’t even care if a worker knows how to work?? Honey, people used the excuse of liking someone based on their looks (Carmen Electra, Megan Fox, Pussycat Dolls…) before, at the end of the day, they’re still extremely untalented women at what they’re famous for, kind of like Lacey, so, if you don’t care if someone is a bad worker, somethings wrong then…

In defense of the ODB thing, I think what happened was that they only gave her the title so Traci could take it from her and be the champion when her Playboy issue came out. But then Traci’s photoshoot didn’t make the cover and got shunted to the website instead which pretty much killed her push, so they were left with no plan for ODB.

This new version of the Beautiful People really isn’t doing it for me. Lacey sucks, plain and simple. Right now TNA is booking around her weaknesses like WWE does with a lot of the Divas to cover up how bad she actually is. I don’t expect to see much ring time for her in the future.

Frankly, I think TNA is just spinning their wheels with TBP 2.0. Madison’s the only one that can really wrestle and I don’t see them getting particularly over without Angelina. The only reason they’re getting a rematch for the tag titles is because they’re the only other tag team in the division right now. I don’t think anyone really expects them to go over at Bound for Glory.

Alissa vs. Hamada was great, but why do they keep jobbing out Alissa? She’s one of the best women they have and she’s being wasted as enhancement talent. She’s gotten over better than any of the other new girls they’ve brought in and she did it without having won a single match — doesn’t that tell these writers anything?! How is it that Velvet Sky of all people is a title contender and Alissa is a jobber? How the hell does that happen? Alissa should be in the hunt for the singles title or her and Daffney should be after the tag team titles instead of the Beautiful People.

I think the beautiful peoples choreographed entrance is such a small thing that it shouldnt really be given that much attention at all.
Something which should be getting attention is how much velvet sky has changed since Angerlina love went. Velvet, in my opinion, has inproved in leaps and bounds. For me she used to just be angerlinas shadow, someone who couldnt really do much in the ring.
Now i see her as the leader of the group and the most impressive, i havent seen her mess up a move or do something sloppy in quite a while.
Shes trying so much harder in my eyes.

The Beautiful People (even moreso now) are about image: from the attires to the backstage skits to the taunts to the entrance. TNA has expressed its interest in making this version of the Beautiful People more image-oriented (and it shows); hence the focus on that very aspect.

Now, I hesitate to acknowledge any progress until it becomes apparent to me. I have not seen much progress in Velvet in terms of character or in-ring ability since the departure of her “predecessor.” At least not enough to warrant it an improvement of “leaps and bounds” in such a brief amount of time. Moreover, I have yet to see this supposed increase in work ethic or leadership quality. Velvet will get her acclaims when she does something worthwhile – besides looking better in comparison because someone is no longer better than her. If anyone has shown that she is worth her salt lately, I think it’s Madison Rayne. Perhaps, Bound for Glory will do wonders for the team of Madison/Velvet.

Tiffany, totally just lost respect for you and your website. Did you really just put that you had a problem with an entrance because it seemed homoerotic?! I understand you may not like it because it’s too corny and choreographed, but to also add that you don’t like it because it seems “homoerotic” is extremely classless.

tna will push alissa after bound for glory
alissa has seen hamada wrestle or and she hasn’t wrestled her before
hamada is tough to bring because of her style.

i noticed two things wrong with lacey…

    1) after the match, she lost her footing when they all bent over…if you don’t have the coordination to drop it like its hot, you dont have the coordination to be a wrestler…

    2) who wrestles in a tube top? granted, she knew she wasnt really going to get in the ring…but that doesnt mean you should wear a tube top…that is a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen…

  • B_Fizzle
    October 18, 2009 at 12:35 am

Tiffany didn’t mean that she didn’t like the entrance because it was homoerotic. All she was saying is that they were doing it in a gratuitous girl on girl manner which made it very hokey and quite frankly, desperate. I can’t say that I disagree with her. These choreographed entrances are giving me bad flashbacks of the Nitro Girls.

Firstly, Tag Match was forgettable. And I’m saying this even as Tara is my all time favorite female wrestler. The whole ODB holding the belt thing? I forgot she was even champ. Enough said.

Secondly, HAMADA VS. ALISSA rocks!!!!!! I demand a rematch and more time! I demand more of them period!!!!

Thirdly, TNAFan80, read the whole post or at least the full paragraph before passing judgement. She’s poking fun at the fact that they’re “stealing” SariTaylor’s entrance gimmick and how TNA seems to have become more sex based recently… or at least alluded to girl on girl sexual tension. I could be wrong but that’s what I got. She was just making a joke.

People, I honestly don’t think that Tiffany meant anything homophobic by her comment about the entrance being homoerotic. Many lesbians find it extremely offensive and insensitive when straight girls try and draw attention to themselves by kissing one another.

LOL@ Lacey she looked so lost.

  • PedroPedroso17
    October 18, 2009 at 3:04 am

I did not lose respect for Tiffany for that comment AT ALL. She didn’t state that she disliked the entrance based on the hot-lezbo-action side of things, it does look tacky if you ask me, straight girls kissing other girls for TV is as lame and fake as that terrible Katy Perry song.

Stop beeing negative, Tiffany improved so much, I remember reading her first posts and thinking “Melanie should’ve stayed with the TNA stuff”, but now girl got her A-Game and she’s on fire during this stuff, I might add that she sounded comfortable talking with Shelly freakin Martinez! So yeah, kiss her feet and beg for more!

The Tag match was pointless. It was more centered in promoting the Triple Threat Match then the Tag Match. I loved the fact that Tara kicked ODB’s ass with one kick. I am hoping Tara wins the title at BFG. ODB is the most boring KO Champion in TNA. There is nothing diffrent about her. While she is a fan favourite she is an average wrestler at best. I would have liked it if Taylor & Sarita had come out and taken out TBP after the match because TBP basically have had the upper-hand on Sarita & Taylor.

Hamada is IMO one of the best new stars in TNA. She is defently KO Championship material as is Alissa. I’m looking forward to seeing them feud some more.

Now I will admit I was never an Angelina Love fan, in fact I was sort of glad she was fired but now I really regret it because Angelina was the star of that team. She was the glue that made it intresting and now I want her to come back ASAP

Choreographed entrances are the shizz. Well not when the TBP do it. It just looks nasty! Flash and Hamada! I love them!
