Tara & Couture: How Long It’s Been Planned, Where It’s Going

The angle [and yes, it is an angle despite comments made otherwise by both] between Tara and Kim Couture has reportedly been in the works for a good few months, reports Wrestling Observer. The inspiration? That game-changing Strikeforce Women’s Championship match between Gina Carano and Cris Cyborg.

The plan at the current time is for Couture and Tara to face off in a pro wrestling match as opposed to an MMA fight… and Melanie loses interest in 10 seconds flat. As Dave Meltzer rightly points out, in a pro wrestling match, what’s the difference between booking Couture and Jenna Morasca? Instead of doing something different and daring [a shoot MMA fight], this ‘feud’ , which hasn’t gotten much buzz anyway, has already fallen at the first hurdle.

Couture has been doing interviews in MMA saying it was a shoot and she wants the match in Strikeforce. But it’s gotten virtually no attention in the MMA world nor the pro wrestling world because Couture isn’t any kind of a name fighter, and is actually less known than the women TNA already has under contract. Couture is fighting Kerry Vera (Brandon’s wife) on the 11/20 Strikeforce Showtime event from Kansas City. I’m not sure when this became an angle, but it was very early on. A few weeks back, when it was mentioned in passing on Impact about Tara challenging Kim Couture, at that point it was definitely an angle and they had an agreement it would lead to a match in TNA.

I wouldn’t have been opposed to say, an MMA fight, but if I wanted to watch Tara wrestle anyone… the last person on my list would be Kim Couture. Hey, here’s an idea — why not finally give us a pay-off on that Tara-Kong feud? Thanks, but no thanks.
