Some early match footage of new Diva, Naomi Night — real name Trinity McCray — has found it’s way onto YouTube. In the short clip below, Night is seen in the ring with the more experienced AJ Lee. Watch below:
Given that she’s just in the first few months of her career since reporting to FCW in August, she’s bound to be bad in the ring hence the flailing around, almost. That said, I think Naomi shows some promise, showing off her athleticism with that jump over Lee and she certainly carries herself confidently — you can see some fierceness and aggression at the start of the video. Though too soon to judge, not a terrible start and I’m curious to see how she progresses.
One thing I would pick up on is that maybe it’s time for a makeover, she looks more like a member of Kandy Rain than the part of a wrestler.

..Hmm, I didn’t think it was a problem, but it’s turning into one. Do WWE want their fans to cheer for their black divas? Or do they just think fans won’t? Someone get Al Sharpton on the phone.

I think it’s both, WWE might don’t won’t their fans to cheer for the black divas and they think the fans won’t. That’s probably why they just turn them a heel out of nowhere. But the fans cheer for the black superstars like MVP and more so I pretty sure they would cheer for the 2-3 black divas.
I also think that WWE doesn’t see black women attractive so that mean they don’t see them as marketable (MONEY).
Jazz and Jackie was most of a heel during their time on WWE. When Jackie became a face the fans got behind her a little bit.

I read somewhere couple mouths ago that Vince doesn’t like Layla because he doesn’t think she’s attractive. So, 8 out of 10 he doesn’t like Alicia Fox as well.
IMO, Lalya is the best looking diva right now. I think she’s the oldest or the second oldest but she looks younger than Beth Phoenix, Melina, Nattie, and sometimes Eve.

Yes, but not for the reasons many people think. It’s not that WWE is racist (except for Michael Hayes), it’s all about marketing and merchandise.
The people who actually buy merchandise are mostly kids, or sometimes young adults (if the merchandise fits the “cool” category). Female wrestlers in general sell few merchandise (compared to male wrestlers). Mickey James and Melina sell good so they are the faces. If Alicia Fox suddenly gets a huge fanbase and the WWE think she has the ability to sell lots of merchandise, they will instantly make her a face with a huge push, no matter what the color of her skin is.
People often forget that the sole “purpose” of a heel is: to make the faces look good. Because the faces are the ones who generate the money for the company. (although there are exceptions since the attitude era, see: NWO). John Cena and Rey Mysterio will probably always be face, simply because of their merchandise sales.

It’s that dancing background, you can see it especially with how she paces her self. It’s a little all over the place but you can see she’s not going to have a problem learning. I like the long hair on her, that’s right miss Naomi Night whip that hair every where!

@TrishMelinaFan, Angela Fong is on the main roster now. She’s called Savannah and is the backstage interviewer on ECW. Shame, she needs to be on one of the other brands.

@ Mikas – I agree, but you’ve covered why she’s a heel at the moment, and the purpose of heels in general. That still doesn’t explain as to why Vince or his writers doesn’t get behind black women to make them generate fan interest and support as faces. There’s some women who you know have that special something that’s obviously going to push merchandise (Melina, Mickie, Trish, etc) and some women who WWE cram down our throats to create into largely supported fan favorites (Kelly Kelly, Maria, Eve, etc). Layla and Alicia Fox are probably divas with tons of potential to sell merchandise had they gotten a fair chance of character growth/push as a face. But how would we know, when they are automatically put into the generic bitch heel role?

I can think of a ton of silly, stupid ideas that only the WWE team would be responsible of, that they could’ve given Layla if they wanted her to get crowd support. Michael Jackson parody rip-off and/or they could’ve just made her a sidekick to R Truth (in the same vain of DJ Gabriel/Alicia Fox dancing gimmick) that I bet would’ve gotten over more than Gabriel/Fox did. Or hell – valet to Cryme Tyme (since they like stereotypes). She probably could’ve done better than Eve in that aspect. But that’s ONLY if WWE wants their black divas as face. And I don’t think they do.
