Good appeared to conquer all evil last Sunday night at Turning Point. First in Knockout action sought the Beautiful People (Madison Rayne/Velvet Sky/Lacey Von Erich) vs. ODB, Sarita, and Taylor Wilde with all titles at stake. Of course, what would a TNA match be without some complicated stipulations? If ODB is defeated she loses her title; if Saritaylor is defeated they lose their titles. Simple enough, right? I suppose this is the part where I go “TNA rulez! WWE droolz!” or something to that effect…
The Beautiful People make their way to the ring looking very shiny and, erm… accessible. Before the sound of the bell, we are treated to even more gratuitous ass shots courtesy of Mi Pi Sexy – to bring even more credibility to this bout, of course.
Taylor Wilde and Velvet Sky kick off the match with a lock-up. The referee tries his best to cop a feel while Velvet takes her aggression out on the Wilde one. The ever-confident Velvet is distracted long enough for Taylor to trip her and drag her to the opposing side. Tags alternate among the babyfaces as they all seem to take particular interest in Velvet’s nether regions. ODB mounts her opponent, but Velvet says neigh. Velvet powers out and leads ODB into her corner, tagging in her partner Madison Rayne.
Madison takes a break to indulge in a bit of self-admiration. As per usual, Madison proves her salt personality-wise. There is a way to be cleverly gimmicky without being overly gratuitous, and Madison masters that quite brilliantly. Her beautiful partners should take note.
Madison’s exhibition buys ODB enough time to recharge and tag in Sarita. Sarita outsmarts Madison with a series of flashy predicaments. She then makes the tag out to Taylor, who she then assists into a moonsault onto Madison (rather flawlessly, if I may add). However, Madison kicks out at 2. Taylor draws her into a clutch and sends her down with a springboard arm drag. Before she can even begin to capitalize on said move, Lacey Von Erich blindsights her with a clothesline. Cue a very convenient wide-angled shot of a fan in the front row holding a “Lacey Von Botch” sign.
Madison regains control of the match with a swinging neckbreaker onto Taylor Wilde, but Taylor kicks out at 2. Velvet Sky requests a tag and makes the assist into a double reverse DDT. Taylor attempts to escape, but Velvet mounts her with a few punches and a very suggestive cover. Taking a moment to tease her competition, Velvet flattens Taylor with a stiff kick to the back and a running front dropkick. Taylor kicks out yet again.
There it is: the moment we all awaited with bated breath… Lacey Von Erich gets tagged into the match. Less than 5 seconds transpire before Lacey is subjected to the thoughts of the mass majority of TNA fans (and perhaps that of even Lacey herself) in the form of “You can’t wrestle” chants. Lacey quickly exits the ring; the scent of defeat is almost too rancid to ignore.
Velvet gets her second chance in on the action by which she traps Taylor in an Octopus stretch. Meanwhile, she bites the trapped arm out of the referee’s line of sight. When Velvet attempts to shift the maneuver a sunset flip, Taylor runs (or rather trips) into Velvet’s face. Hilarity ensues.
Both ladies make the hot tag. ODB charges into the ring, taking out the legal woman Madison. She also takes down Lacey Von Erich, which gets a rather positive reception from the audience. Leading Velvet into the ropes, ODB catches her in mid-air and drops her with the fallaway slam followed by a kip-up. ODB goes for a cover, but Lacey breaks up the pin. Sarita and Taylor take exception. However, in their effort to clear the ring of the excess plastic, they are sent out to the floor. This gives the Beautiful People an opportunity to set ODB up for a potential double team move. Instead, ODB overpowers their advances and takes Madison Rayne out with the TKO for the 3-count.
Somewhere during the 3-on-1 attack against ODB, a few of Lacey’s hair extensions fall out. One piece even finds its way into the hand of a lucky fan in the front row, who takes the liberty of twirling it around like a prize. Lacey then does something that will possibly put her my good graces for all of eternity. She stuffs a piece of her lost extensions down her trousers and does a little hoe down. From what we’ve seen in the past, Lacey is a master at not taking herself too seriously and being able to laugh at herself. As embarrassing as weave-tragedies can be, that purely awesome act alone almost defuncts any and all of my criticisms of Miss Lacey. Key word: almost.
While the outcome was predictable, all in all, I thought this was an impressive match. If an MVP had to be chosen, my pick would definitely belong to Madison Rayne. Madison has come leaps and bounds since her first run with the Beautiful People. Ever since the departure of Angelina Love, Madison has been able to exude personality and charisma. Ever since Angelina left, people supposed the leader position would fall under Velvet Sky or even Lacey Von Erich. However, I think Madison stands out as the one with the best balance between wrestling ability and temperament. That being said, I don’t imagine it will be over between the Beautiful People and Saritaylor. Velvet and Madison don’t strike me as the type that will rest until the belts are finally around their “pretty little waists.” As for Lacey? Well… between the Kong hug attempt and the weave fiasco, it’s safe to say that she is entertaining in her own right. Just keep her in the background, and I will be content. After all, we’re overdue for another Botchamania.
Next up, in the long-awaited steel cage match, we see an end to World War III aka Tara vs. Awesome Kong.
In a lulz-worthy turn of events, Tara approaches the ring in a Kongbuster T-shirt. (I can only imagine the laughs Tara and Kong must’ve had backstage.) Kong enters the cage next and wastes no time charging into Tara and pinning her into the corner. Kong and Tara exchange blows, and Tara attempts to manipulate Kong with her speed. She succeeds when Kong tries to sit on her but misses. Tara begins to take the fight to Kong yet again, but Kong steps on the brakes before Tara can take advantage of their surroundings. Kong goes for a spinning backhand but receives a handful of steel instead. Tara takes advantage of this misstep by slamming the injured fist into the steel wall repeatedly.
Tara tries to find a way out of the cage, but is instead caught on top of Kong’s shoulders and is taken down with the Electric Chair. Awesome Kong then tries her hand at scaling the cage, but this time, Tara stops her in her tracks. Knocking Kong down onto the top rope, Tara goes for what could be a super hurricanrana, but she is shoved down. Tara begins to regain herself, but walks right into a front dropkick a la Awesome Kong from the second rope. This results in a near fall.
Kong, in minor disbelief, proceeds to toss Tara around like a ragdoll. She slams into Tara, using the steel wall as her vice. Tara endures even more abuse for a good portion of the match.
There appears to be a blown spot when Kong takes Tara into a suplex position against the steel fence, which we later discover is supposed to lead into a DDT counter. The two ladies attempt the spot again, this time successfully.
When both ladies make it to their feet, Kong tries for the Implant Buster, but Tara counters. The match seems to work in Tara’s favor as she lands a standing moonsault onto Kong, but Kong kicks out. Tara decides to scale the cage, but Kong is hot on her trail. They exchange blows on the ropes, but then both crumble onto the top rope. The exchange persists until Tara is knocked off onto the mat. Kong braces herself against the fence as she calculates her next plan of action. Tara promptly recovers, finding the strength to powerbomb the near 300 lb Knockout from the second rope. Tara appears to have this thing won, but Kong gets her shoulder up at the last second!
Awesome Kong stirs while Tara tries to find her best way out of the match. Tara scales the six sides of steel, yet this time, she stalls at the top. She awaits Kong’s arrival and then mounts her with a huge crossbody from the top and for the 3-count. Tara wins the match.
As long-winded as this Tara/Kong feud has been, this match was exciting for what it was. The crowd was into it. Not to mention, it’s always a treat to see talented female competitors get a chance at more hardcore male-oriented matches. In the grand scheme of things, the David-Goliath story never gets old. Though, Kong seems to always be at the losing end of it. Nonetheless, this was a mighty win for Tara – one that I hope will catapult her to finer things in TNA. And to think, just a few months ago she could barely get past Angelina Love.

i luv what u do wit diva-dirt i really hate when people say ur bad as u can see i think ur really good
November 17, 2009 at 1:54 am
At todays tapings Saritaylor were involved in 2 more random matchups.
- Taylor Wilde vs Hamada
- Sarita vs Alissa Flash
So probably the feud with TBP is finally over.

All things considered, the tag match wasn’t nearly as train wreckish as I pictured. Velvet Sky’s yelps are one of those things that are so annoying they eventually become funny. Out of all the Lacey pessimists, Taz seems to be the most passionate lol. Though, how anyone couldn’t help but love her after that jig is beyond me.
November 17, 2009 at 2:26 am
Mikas maybe that means Alissa and Hamada are going to form a tag team? Although i guess that wouldnt make much sence.

Nice job Tiff.
I think the Kong-Tara match could have used a little more detail in your Guide (but its all good and I’m just a picky baby like that).
Overall the tag team match was ok, better than I thought, but still not the best.
The Tara-Kong match I thought was one of the best matches in TNA’s Knockout History, third only to the Kim-Kong No DQ Match and the ODB-Kim-Kong Triple Threat match. It had a great ending and a nice length, and only a few botches.
I was watching the PPV online last night and after the PPV on the message board people were sounding off best and worst and Tara and Kong were in all of the top spots, along with Angle and Wolfe and Styles, Daniels and Joe, so Tara and Kong made people notice again.

though im no fan at all of lacey that’s pretty harsh for the crowd to chant like that at her and have someone bring a sign that says “Lacey Von Botch”…ouch..lol
November 17, 2009 at 2:57 am
what is up with the entrances? its like they’re being made to look like lesbians for the sake of being lesbians…
November 17, 2009 at 3:06 am
I think Lacey will be the kind of underdog fans eventually to come to love (or at least accept) in spite of whether she progresses to a level that transcends criticism of her wrestling ability. I like people who don’t take themselves too seriously and I can only imagine how it must have stung to face that crowd once they began those chants. Many would have lost their bottle. No, she isn’t good in the ring, but since the Beautiful People are mostly about personality, I don’t see why she can’t find a niche within the stable. Just minimise her in-ring role; she can enhance the group elsewhere. The attempt to hug Kong and now the self-deprecating jig with the weave is too endearing. From this point on I just can’t join the vitriol squad. She’s had a hard time since joining TNA and I only hope one day she can prove us detractors wrong.
Anyway, as for the match, surely a lot of people will be surprised that it was relatively botch free? In fact, I’d say apart from the shady finish (having ODB overpower all three was a bit lame — she doesn’t exude that much power) I would say it was a nice, fun little match. Velvet Sky’s shrieks are annoying funny, while Madison grows into her role more and more. My only criticism of Rayne is that she obviously has an abundance more to give as a wrestler and since she’s the only one who can get it done in the ring, TNA need to showcase her skills to qualify the Beautiful People as a legitimate threat.
All hail Lisa Marie Varon! Seriously, this, for me, was the most exciting women’s wrestling match of the year. It wasn’t technically perfect — Melina and Michelle McCool’s NOC’s bout takes that honour — but the energy and emotion put in by both Tara and Kong made up for that twice fold. Some of the spots were simply exhilarating. Anyone that knocks the athleticism of Awesome Kong is a fool. To pull off a missile dropkick at that size is incredible! I’m a huge mark for Tara, because I think her success in TNA really sticks two fingers up to WWE’s manifesto that great female wrestlers need to be young and peroxide treated. She deserves her spot as the company’s top face because she’s worked her arse off for it. The outcome of this match didn’t hurt Kong at all, because she’s one of those forces who is destined to be credible so long as she maintains that monster charisma. Gail Kim may be slightly more breathtaking, but TNA may have finally found a good replacement in Tara for establishing someone to revolve the division around. The reason? Like Gail, Tara strikes as someone who genuinely strives to perform at the best of her ability. Her love for performance is obvious. She is, in every sense, a true wrestler. Anyway, [/fanboydom] Haha.
Finally, I would like to commend Tiffany for putting together a great piece on this event. Given the amount of ignorance and derision women’s wrestling often receives from an editorial perspective, it’s nice to read someone who not only understands the product, but is able to form a proper critical analysis of it — rather than just sexist and spiteful drivel you get elsewhere on the net. A well devised, entertaining read. Great job, Tiffany!

Tara fuking Rocks! That Powerbomb was a moment to freaking remeber…..Tara kept her word …And she will be The Next TNA Knockouts Champion
November 17, 2009 at 3:12 am
One of the best women’s matches I have ever seen. Tara’s powerbomb of Kong…AWESOME, pardon the pun. And the finisher…shades of Superfly Snuka mixed with the Thesz Press. ODB, if i were you, look out! Come on Dixie Carter, DO THIS!
On the 6-ladies match, from the description, it seemed more to me that and here comes the G-word, GLOW could’ve made a better match than that, LVE’s comic antics aside. This section seemed to put it into perspective…
“Lacey then does something that will possibly put her my good graces for all of eternity. Key word: almost.”
Wonder if she was given that chance working for wrestlicious?
November 17, 2009 at 3:17 am
The 6-knockout tag was very good and very entertaining, lol I just love lacey, her suckiness in the ring and her goofiness is amazing,LMAO at 6:29 Laceys pose was hilarious and her dance at the end of the match made me almost piss my pants
I’m still pissed off that madison is always the one jobbing for her team,it’s a shame that Velvet and lacey are made to look like wrestling godesses while Madison who is clearly the best wrestler of the three, can’t win a match to save her life.If any member of the beautiful people deserves a title,it’s madison,i hate that she does all the work and then velvet comes in and takes the spotlight
November 17, 2009 at 3:19 am
hahahah oh man that ho-down thing lacey did at the end with her extention in her skirt was freaking hilarious! It’s cool she doesn’t take herself too seriously.
That was a harsh crowd tword Lacey for some reason…but atleast she didn’t buckle under that…with what little she did she didn’t mess up and it looked pretty good….hopefully she continues this.
Velvet and Lacey are so sexy!!!!! They should do playboy together like Torrie and Sable did…just an idea
That cage match was freaking awsome!! major props to both ladies….they had an awsome cage match not just for chicks but for anyone.
November 17, 2009 at 3:20 am
the tara/kong match was good but to slow for my taste, very Iimpresses with the missile dropkick by kong and the jump of the cage by Tara, props to both girls
November 17, 2009 at 3:25 am
LMAO at 6:28 Lacey clothlines taylor and the puts her arms up and does a cute/funny pose, hahaha XD
I wonder who will face saritaylor next for the tag titles, they don’t have any other teams and with the firing of sojo bolt, the only heel options are daffney/alissa but knowing TNA,TBP will get another shot
November 17, 2009 at 3:34 am
“That was a harsh crowd tword Lacey for some reason…but atleast she didn’t buckle under that…with what little she did she didn’t mess up and it looked pretty good….hopefully she continues this.”
We had characters like Debra, Miss Kitty and even an early Trish Stratus — women who weren’t ready made wrestlers but were popular figures within the wrestling community. Hell, the former two won gold without so much as knowing basic wrestling manoeuvres. Lacey Von Erich’s downfall is that, thus far, she resembles a patented formula that’s been thoroughly worn out in mainstream wrestling. That and the fact she belongs to “wrestling royalty” only makes it easier to cast stones at her. Perhaps the claws should be put away for now. All TNA have done is hire her. They haven’t poised her for greatness but so far done the smart thing and pair her with a group she, as a personality, slots into quite well. She hasn’t been booked to look tremendous in the ring and she hasn’t gone over any credible wrestlers in the company — unless people are heralding Christy Hemme these days? All I can see so far is that the company are trying to find ways to mask her shortcomings while she is most likely still training to improve on them. She shouldn’t take the harsh crowds to heart either, but look upon it as part of the learning curve.
November 17, 2009 at 3:44 am
Really enjoyed the Tara/Kong match. I still wish they had actually had a couple of matches leading up to a cage match and that this was for the title but the two do work well together and this is definitely a feud to revisit in the future.
November 17, 2009 at 8:20 am
after rewatching it, the cage match wasn’t as great as i thought it was. it wasn’t the first time we’d seen kong powerbombed in tna and the finish was too much like that of jackie/gail’s cage match a couple years ago. it was just a bit too.. slow for me. and to not be nitpicking, but i found it kind of odd how tara’s offence looks so weak on kong compared to, say, taylor or gail who are easily half her size build-wise.
November 17, 2009 at 8:52 am
without a doubt tara/kong match was awesome. tara gave her all, she proved why she deserves to be considered one of the best. parts of the match nearly had me in tears watching kong destroy tara, i felt the emotion and sacrafice. although it wasn’t the fastest match, i’m very happy with tara’s and kong’s showings
November 17, 2009 at 10:32 am
lve will be fired
November 17, 2009 at 1:41 pm
I cant really hate on lacey von erich! I love her soo much!!! TBP forever! Nice match tho! Tara vs kong is absolutely a 5 star match.
November 17, 2009 at 1:55 pm
OMG wow Tara vs Kong was awesome, i think thats a match of the year candidate.
i think they will fire lacey soon, or send her back 2 training, there doesn’t seem 2 be anyone routing 4 her in the crowds, eaven tazz seems 2 dislike her. they should bring back Angelina love or bring in a new beautiful person
……..maybe someone vain
November 17, 2009 at 1:58 pm
also i loved laceys dance with the hair extentions XD
but kongs was better
November 17, 2009 at 5:00 pm
i thought the beautiful people vs saritaylor and odb match was going to be much worse, but they suprised
me, not in the sense of it being good but at least watchable on the beautiful peoples half(excluding madison). And as for Tara vs kong, im very happy for tara that shes finally being treated good for her incredible wrestling ability, she really is a fantastic athlete and as for kong, the most dominant female ive seen in the wrestling industry EVER, that was an awesome match! and is a strong contender for womens match of the year. I do wish it was given 5 or so more minutes but im happy with the match they put on. lets just pray for some new contenders for the tag titles, although the chants to lacey von erich were a bit harsh. it is true and she didn’t deserve to be in the match. but hopefully the chants have got through to TNA.
November 17, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Man,I just can not believe the amount of comments that each post has been getting lately!Amazing! It all started after the last live blog I believe…
The first match was nice and fun.Lol @ Lacey sticking hair in her pants/booty shorts.
The Tara/Kong match was fantastic!Definitely a match of the year candidate,if not the match of the year!I would have liked for Victoria to finish the match with her patented moonsault off the top of the cage instead of a simple crossbody.Still, awesome match.
November 18, 2009 at 3:29 am
These matches were GREAT!!! Lacey most definitely needs to step her wrestling game up though. She’s entertaining at times but she botches big time moves. TNA needs to bring in Krissy Vaine to replace her in The Beautiful People. I would love to see a NC hometown hero show them how it should be done.
November 18, 2009 at 3:10 pm
I kinda felt bad for Lacey, but its kinda true. She can’t wrestle, and giving her an oportunity like this, because she’s a Von Erich and because she«s a pretty face, is unfair, especially because there are many indie circuit girls that are way better than her.
However, I hope she uses the criticism as an advantage, and starts to work her ass off. Right now, the best that TNA could do is disband TBP in order to make them improve themselves. As for Lacey, put her as a valet and make her go through HARD training, and only put her back in the ring, when she has improved herself to the point that she isn’t insulted everytime she enters in a match.
November 18, 2009 at 4:05 pm
i like how madison is workin on her character im sure she will prove herself more soon as heel n part of TBP
and for tara….should win an award she is the female westler of the year for sure
and tht missle dropkick from kong is just…awesome!!
November 19, 2009 at 12:54 am
This is why the Knockouts are cool.
November 20, 2009 at 9:40 pm
It’s a shame that Gail Kim and Trinity are no longer in TNA Wrestling. I’d love for TNA Wrestling to showcase their dives off the top of the cage along with Tara’s in Knockout video packages.
Trinity was the first ever Knockout to do a move off the top of the Six Sides of Steel. It was Lockdown 2005, and Trinity did a moonsault off the top of the cage onto several X Division wrestlers.
Then at Lockdown 2006, Gail Kim hit a crossbody off the top of the cage onto Jacqueline Moore. These moves should all be showcased in some form in TNA Wrestling, because you will NEVER see this in WWE.
