Report: The Story Behind Last Night’s ‘Piggy James’ Segment

Posted by Melanie on November 21st, 2009
Categories: Rumour Has It

Last night’s segment which saw Mickie James as the subject of ‘fat’ jokes was reportedly to send a message to the former Women’s & Divas Champion, says PWInsider.

As previously reported during the Diva Trade, WWE has not been happy with Mickie’s weight and this was one of the reasons for last night’s segment.

The other reason for the segment has to do with the Diva’s outside endeavors including studying for a degree and pursuing a country music career; Mike Johnson reports there is some unease among WWE management that Mickie is putting herself before her WWE commitments and expect her to put the company first. There is supposedly a belief that like The Rock and Stacy Keibler, James may endeavor outside the company and find fame in other areas where WWE cannot control her.

The general feeling is the segment wasn’t used to gain heel heat for Michelle McCool but rather send a message to James.

As I wrote in yesterday’s Redux, there was no way that this segment was scripted solely to push a storyline. It’s an extremely touchy subject and this is WWE after all, they wouldn’t script something like this without an ulterior motive. Pathetic.

Pathetic WWE, and utterly childish of them too. I don’t blame Mickie for leaving after this, if anything, this is all the more reason for her to leave. They do something like this and they are only pushing Mickie more towards the door than they realise. -___-

WWE is pathetic,i hope Mickie does leave WWE so management can start crying over it,its mickies life and she can do whatever she wants, even if it means losing one of the best divas WWE has,Mickie should do what she wants

I knew it wasn’t all in the script but people just don’t listen, they think everythong WWE TV is fake, well it’s not, look at what they did with Lita, they destroyed her reputation and eventaully, she left because she fid up,I hope Mickie goes to TNA where she will be appreciated, her time with WWE is slowly coming to an end and everyone can tell

WWE just hates to see somebody who wants to do something else with there life other then wrestling shine. Okay now I didnt take this seriously b4, and I didnt care but this shit is really pissing me the fuk of now . Mickie James is not damn fat okay , so b cuz she wants to get a degree futher her education , and sing country music she has to be punished ?. R u freaking kidding me right now…You know what I hope Mickie James does leave wwe I know I will miss her ass like hell trust me i would but i rather have mickie doing something where I know she will be happy and dosent have to be punished b cuz she wants to be succesful…I can gurantee when she leaves they will try to get her bak…just like Gail Kim…WWE thinks that they are the shit look at Hulk Hogan where is he now ?. Not WWE where is Ric Flair not wwe…

that’s ridiculous! she’s still one of the best divas in the whole WWE. who cares if she has other interests? as long as she does her best in the ring (which she does). ridiculous, really ridiculous. I’m so disappointed.

WWE probably expects Mickie to be the next Trish,
they don’t realize that the divas need more story opportunities
IMO the only memorable story Mickie has ever really had was psycho Mickie vs Trish
(its also my favorite rivalry and story ever)

anyway WWE should be thinking more clearly on there actions,
Mickie is not fat at all
im sure they know losing Mickie would leave the divas division in a bad spot
as Mickie and Melina seem to be carrying the division right now

“WWE thinks that they are the shit look at Hulk Hogan where is he now ?. Not WWE where is Ric Flair not wwe…”

What?!? WWE should be upset they don’t have Hogan and Flair right now?? Everybody knows the key to success in this business is creating new stars and keeping the interest in your product. WWE is at least trying to do this (granted they still need more new stars) but I’m pretty sure they are OK with Hogan and Flair limping around the ring somewhere else.

I think it is great Mickie has other interests…but the last time I checked she is employed by the WWE and that requires a great deal of commitment. I work for a software company, and I’m pretty sure they don’t want me pursuing a music career on the side (ok, ok…I can’t sing, but you get the point) because it DOES detract from your focus and motivation. My company wants dedicated employees and to criticize WWE for wanting that level of commitment is wrong, especially since they are such a visible brand.

Well was that the best way to let her know?.I think she knew and that’s why she cried I think she would of cried anyways, because that segment was mean. But I think she’s trying to figure it out,and again she’s not fat but has gained weight.Wwe is a job that superstars/diva’s need to look a certain way.I just can’t believe that’s the way they handle things,a good conversation with her should of been enough. However ok she needs to focus on the business but Mickie is 1 of the best wwe diva’s/wrestler in the company amazing how they treat her!!.You could see that she was aware but still don’t know what that has to do with wrestling!.What if she was intersted in other things? lol some of the divas have something else they would like to do.Oh yeah but they weren’t the ones gaining weight.Intersting company!! awesome!..I just hope Mickie gets it together and shows them why she’s 1 of the best!.

Im truly disappointed with WWE, since I was expecting that to be just a storyline and even though we can be sure that PWinsider truly knows what is happening, I think they wouldn’t create randomly news. So, I honestly hope that Mickie succeeds in her musical career and say her goodbyes to the WWE, because even though I love to see her wrestling, she doesn’t need to be humiliated like this.

If it was a mere storyline I would be okay with it, like I said in other threads, but doing this as a “wake up” call is disrespectful to someone who did a lot for the company in the last few years. Mickie, you don’t need this.

If WWE loses you because of this, its their fault. After all, if PWI ranked you number 1 female wrestler of 2008 is because you have talent. So please WWE, stop discriminating your employees with more weight. The best wrestlers aren’t the stick ones and besides this is a wrestling company, not a fitness model one.

Mickie has dedicated nearly seven years of her life to the WWE (including her time in OVW + four years straight on the road with no break), so if that’s not commitment then I don’t know what is. What’s the big deal if she wants to pursue a music career outside of the business? They obviously don’t have a problem with Jericho doing it, who wants to take early 2010 off so he can tour with Fozzy last I heard. Meh. TNA’s door is always open for her, and I’m sure they’d kill to have her.

Even though I do think this is in bad taste, I’m not gonna go overboard criticising it until it’s fully played out, who knows maybe Mickie will get the last laugh and be the person to finally to take the title off Michelle…but if this is just another way to try and get Michelle over and she doesn’t get her comeuppance in the end, I’ll be pissed. You could make the argument that the treatment of Lita & Vickie Guerrero was kinda justified since they were heels and in storyline terms they deserved it, but Mickie is a popular babyface, if she doesn’t come through this and come out on top in the end, it’s ridiculous and sends a bad message, even if she does end up leaving the company.

This is also the reason why some indy wrestler doesnt wanna be in WWE or TNA. Like Mschif, She dont wanna give up her job as micro biologist but she can still find way to wrestle. I hope mickie pursue her other dreams and just wrestle in the indies if she really want to continue her wrestling career.

but the last time I checked she is employed by the WWE and that requires a great deal of commitment

Mr Glamazon yes I do understand that Mickie does have to commit to wwe…but then agian at the same time you must always have something to fall back on when plan A dosent work or u dont feel like doing that anymore . Mickie has been wrestling for like what 7yrs now…travling everyday from state to state busting her ass for wwe and just b cuz she wants to do something else she has to be punished ?. No thats not fair. So when Mickie does decided to retire from wrestling she can do her music carrer or whatever she is going to do with her degree . If Trish can do it then y cant Mickie ?.

    Also LOL
“Everybody knows the key to success in this business is creating new stars and keeping the interest in your product ”

Creating new stars wwe has a problem in that department…we see the same Champions all the time Cena,Orton,Punk,Taker Etc… We see the same main events with DX,cena,Orton…so wwe has no intrest in building up new stars if so Evan Bourne,Miz John etc should be Big Champions

At first I ignored this, but damn, how shady can WWE get?Now I’m not gonna go on a ‘Mickie is great’ rant like some others, saying she was PWI Female of the year, which she didn’t deserve and only got because she is most popular in WWE,or that she should come out on top against Michelle simply because she’s a face, which is just dumb to say because look at the Michelle-Melina fued, who came out on top there?BUT,I will say Mickie is actually one of the better divas WWE has.WWE is right to some degree, like Mickie slacking off for the past year, but they went about it ENTIRELY wrong!I mean, calling her “piggy” James? That’s just low….and Mickie is not fat!Seriously,Mickie’s hot.Plus, she has other interests so she has to only focus on her wrestling? That’s like saying you can’t have hobbies outside of school. So here’s what I’m basically trying to say:

Even though Mickie has sucked for the past year and a half or so,WWE is stupid and sad for calling her “piggy” JUST because she has other interests (hobbies) and has, according to them, gained too much weight. It’s so stupid!

Yesterday, I wrote that it may be a good lead up to a James/McCool match. But after reading this and in retrospect, the WWE is cruel and sadistic. WWE is using bullying intimidation tacits to embarrass their divas to comply with the WWE demands and not letting their divas to branch out and grow. This should be a lesson for any future females wrestlers that think the WWE is fame cause at the end of the day, how WWE treat their divas, is almost how a pimp treat his hoes.

    GO WWE!!

I mean you got a CONTRACT with ME, so I DONT CARE if you wanna be a movie star or A COUNTRY SINGER, YOU BETTER STAY FOCUS ON MY SHOW cause I PAY YOU..
And if you are going to GAIN WEIGHT, just cause you are a little distracted or whatever, you better start to drink diet coke CAUSE THAT WOULD TAKE YOU OUT!

and this weight problem comes time ago, they tell mickie that she was gainin weight but she didnt care
that is the reason why MICHELLE MCCOOL SAID “WE WARN YOU”

Actually, most indy stars (almost all) have at least once tried to get into WWE. The only exceptions are the ones who have a good job outside of wrestling (like Mschif). The best example is the old ECW. Basicly all those wrestlers claimed they would never go to WWF/WCW, but once WCW came along with a bag of money 1 by 1 they all jumped ship. It’s very simple, if you have the ambition to become a fulltime wrestler there isnt much choice other than WWE (or TNA when you are a topstar), you cant pay the bills with just indy shows (unless you are a big name star).

    “This is most likely bullshit.”

It probably is. It’s “working the marks”. Ever since people found out wrestling is fake, the promoters were looking for other means to work the marks. And they regularly use the internet dirtsheets to spread rumors. And naturally people instantly believe what Mike Johnson/Dave Meltzer write (both often called WWE shills in the past), with the result that they create a lot of commotion with it. And i’m pretty certain that everyone who hates WWE’s actions will now tune in every Friday to see how the Mickey-Michelle feuds develops. They all hate it, but wouldn’t want to miss a second of it! So once again they did a very good job.

I don’t want to believe that that’s true, but if it is, that’s disgusting. I get WWE not wanting Mickie to go onto ‘future endevours’, but that is the wrong way to go about making a point.
I also feel bad for Michelle, as all the ‘McCool-Haterzzz’ on these fansites are going to have a great time slagging her off, probably making up some bull that it was Michelle’s idea. Ha!

As a teenage girl, I think Mickie is a great role model for girls my age, as she isn’t some stick-thin model, but a healthy woman.

    November 21, 2009 at 6:03 pm

Isn’t she thinking about leaving anyway? How can anybody be surprised about this. Name one diva outside of Trish Stratus that got a nice sendoff. Lita, one of the most popular women in wrestling history, was practically run out of the company. And Mickie isn’t half as popular as she was. This is how WWE treats women on their way out the door. It’s not rocket science.

Mickie will be no more succesful than Lita is in her music career. But if that’s what makes her happy, than good for her. BTW, the most succesful woman since leaving wrestling is easily Trish. She runs her own business, is all over TV in Canada, still gets lots of magazine spreads and interviews, and continues to grow her brand name all the time. She’s getting her own Wii game for crying out loud!! And the WWE pretty much views her as the Stone Cold of the divas, and treat her like a queen.

Stacy Keibler is old news. Outside of her occasional Maxim apperances, what has she really done that is noteworthy since 2006? WWE doesn’t even want her to host Raw, and they will bring in just about anybody. That’s what happens when you suddenly trash the wrestling business when you get one TV gig and think you are “above” everything. I guess long legs, no talent, and an overrated face will only get you so far, right Stace?

Goodnightddtmnm – very good point about the future stars….and like I said, the WWE is getting mixed results from this. But your point about them missing Hogan and Flair is off the mark. They definitely have work to do in this department so they can find guys to take the place of Cena, ‘Taker, etc. Lately they have done a nice job with Miz, Morrison, Swagger, etc. You can’t just make them big stars overnight right?

I have no problem with Mickie having outside interests…we all should…but if the WWE would rather she not pursue it at this time they certainly have the right. And we don’t know if they in fact DID talk to Mickie and get her “ok” on this storyline. We all know Mickie isn’t fat. I’ve met her and she is really lovely…I’m sure anybody who had talked with her would agree she is great / friendly / etc. If her dedication is waning after 7+ years then she should take some time off and focus on her other pursuits. No problem with that.

Good point re: Jericho and his career…but there can’t be 1 person that questions his in-ring abilities / promos / work rate at this time…he’s sensational so as long as he is still a star the WWE will not say much right? Hasn’t there been a lot of talk about Mickie’s work rate and her lack of chemistry with other Divas? Couldn’t this be something she works on? (PS – I really like Mickie although she does seem to always beat Beth which drives me crazy. LOL)

im pretty sure a lot of that has to do with how trish was sent out of WWE. stacy was hardly acknowledged & we all know how Lita’s run with the WWE ended. this has nothing to do with trish, her name doesn’t need to be brought up anymore than it already is. this weight issue with mickie has been going on for quite some time already. maybe she should wear less revealing clothes ?

That is so pathetic and horrible! People are acting like she blew up to epic proportions. She only gained about 10 pounds and lost some muscle mass. Nothing that a bit of extra time in the gym couldn’t fix. At this point, I hope Mickie does leave the WWE for better things. She should get out before they break her down, like Stacey, Victoria, Trish, The Rock, etc. It’s not worth it to be treated that way.

  • faux.brit
    November 21, 2009 at 7:42 pm

Epic fail WWE, this is so not kosher! Its obvious that the fans are not impressed: did you notice the fans silence at the arena and the people shouting “we love you mickie”. The whole McCool vs James has been so childish; it’s like a cheap, elementary school, charicature of a wanna be mean girl.
This is right up there with the way the treated Lita and the current storyline with CM Punk; WWE is so arrogant and has no moral compass.

I agree with mpezza.. Sounds like bullshit posted to give the rumor sites something to post. Mickie, Michelle, and Vince are probably loving the attention.. Again if weight was the issue she would of been gone a year ago, and certainly not given the Divas Championship.. Shit’s weak.

Mr.Glamazon, I totally understand what you’re saying regarding my Jericho comparison and I fully agree, but at the same time, is it really wise for them to let Jericho take off for a couple weeks/months when he’s currently one of the top drawers of the company, where as Mickie can simply be seen as expendable? Because let’s face it, the Divas aren’t a top priority when it comes to selling pay-per-views or putting people in seats, so why wouldn’t they make a big deal about his music career? Jericho’s presence in the company is much more significant than any of the Divas’, so I don’t see why WWE would be coming down so hard on her for wanting to follow the likes of many other wrestlers when the Divas are seen as unimportant by the majority of fans anyway.

I forgot to comment about the weight thing earlier but I don’t want to waste my time with that. What a farce.

If this is true, is it really necessary to send a “message” so publicly? Why not pull her aside and talk to her? Jesus Christ, this is so unprofessional it’s ridiculous. But I suppose this is the WWE–they don’t have the best track record of treating their employees decently.

  • spiffy
    November 22, 2009 at 12:33 am

I’m not defending WWE, but keep in mind they send public messages to male wrestlers too. So don’t think it’s an isolated issue with Mickie. And who’s to say they didn’t pull her aside and she didn’t take it seriously?

And as gmosoto said, she’s under contract. She can’t just leave. I don’t even think she could sue since it’s technically a scripted storyline with her character. It’s definitely a cruel message WWE is sending because the touchiest subject for a woman is her weight. But like real sports, it’s a business.

  • SheamusNoKoibito
    November 22, 2009 at 12:42 am

I thought as much; I had a feeling that it may have had to do with something like that. What’s more, I think it’s disgusting to treat wrestlers because they want to have a life outside of the WWE, especially CONSIDERING how easily WWE just throws their wrestlers away. If I worked for them, I would ALWAYS make sure to have a backup plan. I don’t blame anybody for that; if you work for the WWE nothing is 100% certain. Look at the way they treat their past legends and how bitter they are (not all of them but too many). I wish all the best to Mickie, whether she goes or stays!

  • Kelsey
    November 22, 2009 at 12:55 am

I agree with what Erin said above my comment. It really wasn’t necessary at all to send a “message” on tv, but still why did they need to go that far and bring it to tv and have the whole public around the whole wide world need to know about it? Absolutely not. It wasn’t necessary at all. The best thing that they could have done was just pull her aside backstage and talk to her about the so called issue instead of doing that childish uncalled segment. But WWE could care less. They would just rather embrass her then do it in private. I still hate WWE for doing that to Mickie. What a way to drive away one of their biggest and top female wrestlers they have now. If Mickie leaves…then its their loss.

This is sick. Okay if you want her to put the company first. But the whole weight thing is another issue. It’s sick. Sure Mickie isn’t a stick, but she’s not obese. She is super adorable and looks great all the time. She knows how to look stylish. I look up to the Diva’s, especially Mickie. Why couldn’t they have a conference with her, why couldn’t they talk to her in private about it. Mickie did not deserve that. I agree with Kelsey. If Mickie does decide to leave the WWE, it’s their loss. Mickie has the what it takes to be up there with the likes of Trish and Lita. She is one of the few current Diva’s that actually have talent. I wish the best to Mickie no matter what she does. And I hope WWE gets their act together.

  • C-Ray
    November 22, 2009 at 5:50 am

I was gonna be quiet about this, but it’s become apparently clear that many are looking at this with only one eye open, one ear unclogged, and mouths (or in this case, keyboards) on full blast, and brains turned…OFF. As Internet critics, (or marks or smarks or whatever the heck people are called these days) we (yes, I’m including myself in this) take everything the Internet says and automatically believe it’s true. Do I think it was kinda mean-spirited? Hell yes. Do I think WWE was in the wrong? Hell yes. But these days, you have to send a message by any means neccesary. Just having a simple talking-to isn’t gonna cut it for most people. I know. Take it from me. Not fun. :(

Did anyone of you even considered the fact that they MAY have tried to speak to Mickie behind the scenes and she didn’t take the words to heart? This may sound crazy, but WWE actually does put SOME (even if it’s just a little) effort into not making their top Divas look awful. The one big example I can come up with is Lita. That fateful night in MSG when Trish and Lita were cutting a promo after the whole Edge/Matt Hardy/Lita incident. The fans (yes, the fans) actually began her heel turn. WWE tried to prevent it, and it got to the point where not only WWE was practically forced to hire Matt Hardy back but turn one of their top faces heel.

And the whole country music over WWE thing, in life (and especially in these times we’re in), it’s very important to have a backup (and even a second backup), but you’ve gotta remember wha your number one priority is. Don’t put your backup before your main job until the main job is over and done with. When she signed that contract, she made a committment to WWE, and (for now) that should be her number one priority. After her contract runs out, she can say “F*ck them!” and do something else.

Plus, it’s not like WWE is the only company to make a top star look bad leaving. Christian and Booker T were humiliated on their final appearances in TNA programming.

Trust me, I’m not defending them at the very least, but I see why (from a business standpoint) they did what they did. Sorry to upset some of you, but that’s how things are in the world of business. When you gotta make a point, you gotta make a point. From there, you have two options: either cry about it like a baby and complain to others or on the Internet like a two-year old when your feelings are hurt, or get your butt in gear and prove your employer wrong and wow the hell out of them. There’s an old saying: Success is the sweetest revenge. ;)

C-Ray, humiliating a person in front of millions doesn’t cause a them to get in line, it makes them do the exact opposite. What the WWE did put into Mickie’s head is that the company she works for doesn’t give a rat’s ass about her. Why should she give her all to somebody like that? They don’t respect her and she should cut her ties with the WWE immediately.

What I would like to see Mickie do to get revenge at Survivor Series. She could; a.) wrestle stiff, b.) pull out a TNA t-shirt, c.) strip naked and yell into a mic “DO I LOOK FAT!?” Okay, that last one is for me, but none the less piss the WWE off as much as possible.

Sofar Pwinsider was the only dirtsheet site that reported this “news”, and it wasnt even in their news-section, but in their membersection, which is basicly an opinion column. The mere fact that none of the other big dirtsheet sites have made any mention of it, kinda says it all on how reliable this “news” is.
Seems the Mickie James fans got upset over nothing ;-)

That ladies and gentlemen is from the highly respectful diva-dirt.com, the top women’s wrestling news site on the net. This article just absolutely shows what is wrong with the WWE. Vince McMahon, The Devil Incarnate, who likes to think with his penis most likely came up with this atrocious segment. Instead of focusing on the skill and talent that the Divas have, these ill-mannered pieces’ of sh*t want to focus on weight. Really? No wonder Tara (Victoria) and the majority of the knockouts left. Let’s get one thing straight, Mickie James is a beautiful woman. She has proven time and time again why she is the top star in the company. She’s obviously a fan favorite and to come up with a distasteful segment like that is wrong. I would like to think that those tears in here eyes were quite real. I applaud Michelle McCool for sleeping her way to the top and being apart of the segment along with Layla. Michelle is a very good wrestler but has no charisma at all.

McMahon has shown time and time again that he does not care about the Divas. He’s shown that he only cares about his son-in-law, his hooker Cena, and his own ego. He must hear the voices of how the Knockouts of TNA just put the divas to shame. Many of the Knockouts used to work for him. He’s shown that he doesn’t care about talent. The divas have been thrown time and time again into tag matches. There is no originality. There are no unique characters. The Knockouts have all that and then some. Look at each individual Knockout. Look at how unique they are and how much they care about what they do. Knockouts like Daffney, ODB and Kong wouldn’t last a day in the WWE because of Vince’s testosterone-fueled and bias ideas.

Let’s look at Survivor Series. Team Mickie (Mickie James, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, Melina and Kelly Kelly) vs. Team Taker Jr. (Michelle McCool, Jillian Hall, Beth Phoenix, Layla El and Alicia Fox). Do we really care about this match? I know I don’t. Why is Gail Kim buried in this? Why is Beth Phoenix pushed to the back? This match is meaningless and will not change anything. Look at Turning Point. You had all the Knockout titles on the line in SaritaWilde and ODB vs. The Beautiful People. It was enjoyable. Good but not great. Then we had a great matchup in Tara vs. Awesome Kong in the Six Sides of Steel. This match had it all. Intensity. Fire. Stories were told. Tara went from wearing a banana suit to being in a high profile feud. I know the Divas have to be jealous. Mind you Mickie James and Gail Kim used to be in TNA and Gail was the cornerstone of the division and now she’s doing diddlysquat for Vince.

He just doesn’t care. He cares more about a woman’s weight than the things that she can contribute to the show. Like I said earlier, Mickie James is absolutely beautiful. I’d get down on bended knee if I ever got the chance to meet her. I pray for the day that she along with Beth and Gail leave and head to the promised land.
