We may have just put one pay per view behind us but the trail rolls on, because in just three weeks we get WWE’s next pay per view: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. Now before y’all get excited about a Divas stipulation match, may I remind you about the Hell in a Cell pay per view? Like that, it’s likely that only the main events will be contested in those matches.
With three weeks to go, we have two clear feuds on Raw & SmackDown. The Divas Championship race narrowed last night when Maryse made her return and targeted Melina, while there’s been ongoing animosity between Michelle McCool and Mickie James which could lead to a Women’s Title match. Which brand should get the match? Your Raw & SmackDown Redux writers argue for their show:
Raw (Argument by Erin)
Maryse’s return brings a feeling of immediacy to this pay-per-view opportunity. Whatever heat she has built up from her return (even though I doubt returning while wearing a turkey costume builds much heat) will evaporate soon, and the WWE needs to capitalize on this (relatively) fresh feud ASAP. To pass up this opportunity for a big-scale Divas Championship match would be a mistake; They already blew a similar shot with Alicia and Melina by rushing to have the match before Survivor Series. Though Melina and Maryse won’t have enough time for a proper and full build-up, this match could serve as a formal kick-start to their feud. And, to be honest, I’d much rather see this light the fire under the feud than a bloody Gobbledy Gooker attack. Whether or not a Divas Championship match at TLC would result in a Maryse win, I feel that a worthy feud could be built off of it–Maryse could flaunt her quick win in Melina’s face and start a babyface title chase, or Melina could simply frustrate the arrogant Maryse by batting her away in her first title shot. Either way, it could make for an entertaining feud.
The alternative–a Mickie/Michelle match–has been in the works for much longer, but with the high school mentality that feud has had, is it worthy of the “big time” just yet? What kind of feud can be built off of fat jokes and clothes-cutting? I think those two need to build something more legitimate before they have what is destined to be their “blow off” match. Besides, they just had a big PPV match in the form of the Survivor Series tag team match; I mean, it was literally branded “Mickie vs. Michelle”, wasn’t it? Does SmackDown deserve another PPV match so soon? I think if they were to have another PPV match this soon after the “Team Mickie vs. Team Michelle” match, it might put the brakes on the feud altogether (PPV matches signal the end of feuds, quite often), and they need more room to grow before they reach that endpoint and shift to something else. It would be a case of “too much too soon” in my book. I think it’s time that Raw get the spotlight.
For SmackDown follow the cut:
SmackDown (Argument by Melanie)
I guess Survivor Series was a SmackDown-led match, but in the end it still involved Divas from both brands and that isn’t really a ‘SmackDown match’. The feud between Mickie & Michelle has been brewing for a short while now, longer than Maryse & Melina, so it’s probably easier to give the opportunity to the blue brand Divas who have more depth going into the pay per view. The storyline, granted, may not be the best so far with Mickie being reduced to tears — but they have had more time and effort put into their storyline than the Raw feud likely will and it seems the gradual build up to a pay per view match is perfect timing with the TLC PPV. It’s not too early for a title match and it’s not too late either, which is the danger for most of these Diva bouts. The timing is just right for these two to go at it, and if we think about it timing is key — this is a fresh matchup that we haven’t seen before. We’ve already seen Melina vs Maryse once before this year, while Mickie vs Michelle in a singles match is still fresh for the fans.
With Mickie’s team gaining a win over Team Michelle, it makes the perfect catalyst to give Mickie a title shot [as she was team captain for the winning team] and use the next few weeks to build towards the match, announcing it this week on SmackDown. After the way she’s been treated lately, we could see Mickie begin fighting back and slowly but surely standing up to Michelle before their match at TLC. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s the right time for Mickie to win the title so you could have her gain the upper hand, only to lose at the event. In comparison on Raw, it seems like they’ll just rush into a title switch for the management favourite [Maryse] without really considering where to go beyond that. That match needs to be held off till at least January to mean anything. Mickie & Michelle have made more progress and could easily make enough more in the coming weeks to warrant a PPV slot.
Which argument do you agree with and which match would you rather see? Vote below:

I want to see Michelle v Mickie for the Women’s Title. This’ll be a great way to cap off all the weeks & weeks of talk and build-up. They’ve squared up 1-on-1 in Mexico & in Europe but I think it’s time they take this to the PPV for the Women’s Title.

As much as I really really REALLY want to see Mickie VS McCool, I say have Melina & Maryse for TLC cause this match will most likely suck ,and this PPV sucks, so it all matches up! =P xD

I would rather see Michelle McCool vs Mickie James at TLC. But the divas is doing great they been on the PPVs since HITC but the sad part about it the crowd is dead.
But the best PPV match so far was with Melina and Michelle I doubt Maryse can pull of that match like Michelle DID.
November 24, 2009 at 11:03 pm
They might just do both matches.
I hope Michelle McCool vs Mickie James be longer. Because last time Mickie James vs Maryse was longer and that was just awful.

I also forgot to add, I’d prefer to see the Mickie/McCool title match at the Royal Rumble rather than TLC. Royal Rumble is a big PPV and having this (reletively) big fued on a big PPV would be perfect, much like the Beth/Melina Womans Title match warlier this year. =) And maybe, JUST MAYBE … that match could stretch into Wrestlemania … maybe. =)

Why not both matches on the PPV? The diva matches are short enough to fit 2 matches on the card, and NOC was a big success. But its probably too soon for a Melina-Maryse ppv match, that feud needs to buildup first.

i really wanna see Michelle vs Beth vs Mickie in a Triple Threat for the title.

I’d like to see Michelle/Mickie since it’s been building for a bit longer time.
But the question is: Would WWE as a PG product, taking less risks with the Divas, even have a women’s match on an all TLC PPV?! We’ve seen how TNA have booked the Knockouts into all kinds of crazy matches (most recently the cage match), but WWE hasn’t done one since the Trish/Victoria street fights and the Lita/Victoria cage match. And they wonder why the Divas can’t garner much crowd reaction.
Really hope they give the Divas a chance here!

The match will most likely be Mickie & Melina vs Michelle & Maryse. The WWE has connected the two feuds with Melina pinning Michelle at SS. At the moment it’s too soon for Maryse and Melina to have a title match together with her just returning from injury. At the soonest will be at the PPV after TLC.
Though odds are slim it could be Mickie vs Michelle. The WWE amped up the feud with the horrible “Piggy James” segment, so it’s possible to at least see a Tables match. All that really is is a standard match with a wrestler going through a table for a win and I think the two can handle it.

I would rather see Mickie and Michelle just because I think the quality of the match will be better than their counterparts on Raw. As much as I like the personality (particularly from Maryse) the Raw feud is going to have, I’m not sure how Maryse is going to be in the ring, and as good as Melina is (and she’s GOOD), I don’t think even her ability can make Maryse look good. Michelle has been very consistent in her pay per view contests and Mickie is, well, Mickie! I see very good chemistry between them.

Okay I watched the Survivor Series and was impressed. Now I want to say I am a Beth Phoneix fan and was happy how she played her character once in the ring.Even thou she didn’t get to wind up the
Sole survivor she did her part and elimanited 2 Diva’s before getting elimanited her self by Mickie
James.I thought it was a good Diva match, and still Beth maintained her dominance while she was in the
ring..Since SmackDown won the Bragging Rights PPV I figured the faces would win Survivor Series and Beth left her presence felt in the ring.

The Maryse/Melina fued have to be built! I think Mickie vs Michelle should go in this PPV but why such of good match in such of crappy PPV…Why not in the Royal Rumble????? Even though it is to far!

I know, i’m gonna get disagreed with by all of you. But… can’t the give kellykelly & Eve a storyline? I’m sick of the same diva’s getting the big lead storyline. If they want those two, to improve.. why don’t they use them? I haven’t even been seeing Kelly lately, the girl who was getting every.. single… storyline…they…had!!!! You can’t give Maryse a rival with two of the best diva’s in the wwe. Mickie & Melina.
I know, i’m gonna get disagreed with even more.
But….. GIVE KELLYKELLY & EVE A STORYLINE! NO MORE MARYSE & MICKIE & MELINA! OH AND GIVE GAIL ONE TOO!
November 25, 2009 at 4:05 am
@wwedivamadness: I agree with you about more divas should get storylines. But I would rather have a Gail Kim and Alicia Fox storyline/feud than an Eve/Kelly Kelly.
But Eve is supposed to have a storyline with Jack Swagger( that could help her, but it seem like they drop it) and Kelly Kelly I don’t know. But why would they have both faces together what type of storyline can get with Eve and Kelly Kelly?
Does Kelly Kelly still play the dumb blonde like she did when she first came to RAW because I haven’t heard her talk in a long time?
But I agree they focus on two divas on a brand and the others have to take a backseat. If WWE want ALL the divas to get over with the fans they have to put them in storyline to get their voice heard and the character development.
Just like Trish Stratus said.

I’d like to see Michelle beat Mickie to retain, and then for Beth to get involved in the feud leading to a triple threat
November 25, 2009 at 7:56 am
I’d rather see Melina vs Maryse for now, I agree with Erin that perhaps a title shot is the way to elongate the feud.
I want to see more build-up to Mickie vs Michelle, like in the Michelle/Melina feud, they didn’t just give Michelle a title shot straight away, they waited a while. This could be a similiar situation.
November 25, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Even though I voted Michelle x Mickie (because I’m tired of that lame feud) I actually think, both brands should get a match. If the WWE Championship and World Championship can be defended at the same paper view, I can’t the Divas and Women’s title be defended to?
But I’ve got a feeling they’re going to do a winner takes it all. Michelle and Maryse vs. Melina and Mickie and that Michelle and Maryse will win due to Layla’s interference.
November 25, 2009 at 9:48 pm
i would actually prefer to see maryse vs melina
November 26, 2009 at 2:00 am
Melina v Maryse. I’m biased, but I just can’t bring myself to have any interest in any Womens title match until there is finally one that doesn’t involve Michelle McCool.
