FCW Watch: Mia Mancini vs. AJ Lee

Two of FCW’s standout Divas, Mia Mancini and AJ Lee locked horns on the company’s television series over a month ago — footage of which is now online. As well documented, both have previous wrestling experience; Mancini is particularly known for her work in SHIMMER while Lee has worked for WSU. On paper, this match should be better than some of the Divas matches from the main roster, right? Check it out below:

If I’m really honest, I can’t say the match captured my undivided attention. As talented as both girls may be, there’s something here that bordered into becoming boring. I’ve most definitely seen better work from Serena. I wonder if this was watered down to meet WWE’s standards? Not a bad match at all, don’t get me wrong, but not wholly exciting either.

Average match, some good spots, but overall, a bit boring!
And what the fack was with Aprils age comments?? Talk about awkward!

The reason why this match was so dry is because the crowd seemed like they were dead people in a cemetery, just glaring at the whole match *no sounds at all from them*

the match was a bit boring, the only thing that saved the match was the fact that 2 of the best FCW divas were in the match

serena botched aprils tilt-a-whirl headscissors and april had a hard time keeping her balance, she tripped a few times,i expected more form these 2

serena who I adored in shimmer has not impressed in any of her matches in FCW, but she does have a good look to her

oh yeah,if anyone wants to know, april lee is 22 years old and serena is 23,both very young girls with bright futures in WWE,i trade them to the main roster any second for kelly kelly and/or the bellas but right now,I think these 2 best belong in FCW,at least until they can have more experience wrestling WWE style

Serena spent most of her wrestling career in OVW, which was a farm territory for WWE. So Serena doesnt need to adapt to the “wwe style”. She should’ve been placed on the main roster already. I can understand they want to keep her in FCW for a few months to “fine-tune” her a little bit, but there is no reason to keep a wrestler with so many skills in FCW for TOO long.

To get a good view on Serena’s true skills: check out her feud against Sarah Del Ray in Shimmer, one of the MotY candidates.

The match was okay to me.

I can’t wait to see AJ Lee on the main roster I know it probably would be in 2 years for now but I like her so much.

God this match was so boring!I found myself falling asleep half way through the whole thing!I expected WAY more from these two,but it just goes to show that you shouldn’t be expecting much of anything in this day and age.

This is talent. Maria,Kelly,Rosa, and others do not deserve to have any TV time at all. Serena and April deserve to be on the main roster. I hope WWE realizes that we’re not watching their show just to see eye candy. We want to see WWE Divas rip each other apart. We only got about 5 or so good diva matches this year. WWE lost some viewers early this year because of the whole Santina crap. People such as Mickie,Beth,Melina,Gail,Jillian, and some more are setting a good example for this company. WWE needs to step up their game.

I’m always thankful for any FCW Divas contest I can see as living in the UK, these things seem to be about as easy to find as Amelia Earhart and her plane. First of all, I thought it was a pretty decent match, especially for six minutes. Unlike most main roster Diva matches today, they made it feel like they packed a lot into quite a short amount of time, it didn’t have the whole Diva fad of endless roll ups and it is an improvement in FCW Diva matches, thanks to some more experienced talent. The crowd couldn’t have been less active even if they held a seance, thats the way it always seems however especially in Diva matches (though the 4 Pack Challenge generated a bit of buzz) I didn’t pick up on too many botches, but then again I’m not always on the edge of my seat waiting for them, I just generally go with the match, AJ really seems to have brought out a bit of character in this match which is key as though she probably has an indy base, its likely that its not as well known as Serena/Mia’s. One thing I always hate about FCW is its nano-secondly change, this match must’ve been ages ago because as mentioned April is now AJ Lee and Serena is now Mia Mancini, which is a personal gripe of mine, another downfall was despite the solidarity in the match, it didn’t generate anything storyline wise- there wasn’t even any tension between Angela/Savannah or Mancini which I thought would’ve been in there. Another thing that confused me was commentary talking about how AJ had scored wins over Serena, it might’ve been because I haven’t seen them but television wise AJ hasnt had any victories- mind you commmentary in itself was pitiful this match and just added to the awkwardness generated by the crowd. I’d like to see both Divas on ECW, because they both feel niche enough to fit in with the young roster, I know there’s a few more newbies now who aren’t as experienced such as Naomi Night, Liviana and Aksana, but I’m overall looking forward to what FCW can produce.

I’m so sick of the fans using diva matches as toilet breaks and chances to text their friends to say ‘Hey! I’m at FCW!’ Rant over.
April/AJ Lee is so cute! She reminds me of a Mickie James or a Gail Kim.

the true is that i dont see serena in smackdown or raw,
only pretty girls go to the main roster, and she is not that pretty :S

am i the only one bothered by the fact that they are fighting for a tiara?

if you think about it, it is a perfect metaphor for what the womens division has turned into…instead of having trained wrestlers fighting for a title belt, we have models fighting for a tiara…(i’m not talking about these two women in particular…i’m talking about the womens division as a whole)

People keep saying they want these two to be on the main roster in WWE, and they’d rather see them than Kelly Kelly for example. Well at least Kelly has charisma, is over with the fans and is fun and entertaining. These two might be seen as “good wrestlers”, but they are both boring, huge yawn-factors and aren’t good looking either.

Everyone that says Serena is “boring”, obviously needs to watch some of her work in SHIMMER!
And Kelly is the living definition of boring, no charsima whatsoever, only reason fans love her is because, A)She’s cute. B)She’s the underdog, looks weak and all, fans love those! She’s still in WWE, only because her in-ring work is acceptably good and she looks amazing, no charisma, nothing too amazing in-ring wise. April and Serena are not only better wrestlers, they’re also more charismatic AND they aren’t as boring as Miss walking statue herself.

I’ve seen her work in SHIMMER, I still think she has no personality. She looks older than she is and will end up being given the same stereotypical gimmick they have given her in FCW, if she ends up in WWE. And who wants to see that? She will not get over with the fans and neither will AJ Lee aka Pencil Legs.

Fans love Kelly Kelly because she comes out with a beaming smile that lights the whole arena up every time she’s on RAW, she might come across as a “walking statue” in her photo shoots, but when she is on WWE TV, she is loads of fun and has a bubbly personality that people connect with.

We want to see good looking people on our TV screens, be it in wrestling or otherwise. I don’t want to see a walking twig who looks like she could be snapped in half like a cracker, or a flat nosed frumpy and dull as dishwater sub-par wrestler like Serena.

Serena only does well depending on her opponents, she can’t carry a match if her opponent is inexperienced, when she faced mischif and sara del rey in shimmer, she did very good because they helped her and made her look good but if you watch her matches with less talented women, you can she struggles to keep the match going

People need to remember that serena is not that experienced, she’s only been wrestling for 4 years, she made her start in OVW in mid-2005 and then she eventually moved to shimmer working her way up,while she does have a good handiful of experience, she’s still very young and has a lot to learn, same thing goes to arpil

Kelly is not good at all,all she does is cartwheels in her matches, thats not wrestling, she’s only over with the crowd because she hot and the underdog

when I asked my friends what they thought about kellys wrestling, they said “who cares, she HOT” which says a lot

if kelly actaully started improving in the ring and stoped being such a cartwheel spot monkey, then I would give her props

People seem to forget that road agents map out matches beforehand. Kelly Kelly will be told to do those moves as long as they inspire pops from the crowd (which they do, and they’re often some of the only pops the Diva matches get). However, that’s neither here nor there and I didn’t really like this match. I think Serena has a good look and she’s adequate in the ring, but there’s not really a place for her on the main roster right now. If the flack that Michelle McCool and Alicia Fox get is any indication, I can’t imagine the fire AJ Lee will come under for her weight when she gets called up.

Kelly Kelly only excites the crowd cause shes hot, we all know that. There are different roles for the divas in WWE Kelly is like a Torrie Wilson, popular with the crowd but not championship material, Serena Deeb/Mia Mancini is a 6 time OVW Women’s Champion she has talent and with a little bit of help she could easily have charisma and be a legend in Women’s wrestling. Just my opinion.

THETommyTommy-serena only won the title 6-times because the title was under 24/7 rules

I haven’t seen Serena’s past matches in Shimmer or OVW anywhere, but you do have to give credit where it’s due. So what it was contedsted under 24/7 rules, at the end of the day if you’ve won a title six times, you’ve won it six times, that’s all people will remember. Like I said, I don’t know how much of a personality she had elsewhere, but she does seem to be working well as a heel here and whilst it is stereotyped, its nowhere near along the stereotyping levels of Wrestlicious, plus FCW haven’t really done a lot of Diva segments in which they allow their Divas to talk for long, we’ve only seen one thing from her on her debut, so you can’t really say that she’s boring, because she’s not had the chance to. Plus, gimmicks change 9/10 when they are promoted up the roster. To call Serena sub par in the same sentence Kelly Kelly’s name is used is laughable, yeah Kelly’s bankable and popular, but I couldn’t see her pull of any moves Serena or AJ did in this match, plus to compare their personalities is a bit cloudy too seeing as Kellly’s bound to be bubbly as a face to a crowd that interact compared to a heel like Serena, in front of a crowd thats as alive as the crew of the Titanic.

For development, this is a pretty good match, the majority of people may like the pretty people, but WWE is slowly realising that this is turning its fans to the Knockouts. I dont really care to be honest, but they’ve pushed Kelly so down the underdog gimmick that she’s going to have a real hard time for herself gaining any credibility to win an actual title.

For the last several years y friends and I have been running a list of talent we see getting cut by WWE for the that year (I’ve been about 95% right). The other night we started talking about our 2010 list of talent cut by WWE and unfortunately both Serena Deeb (Mia Mancini) and April Jeanette (April Lee/AJ Lee) have both been listed. Everyone agreed that they just don’t think Serena or April are really “WWE material” and could last long in WWE. (On a personal side note, I also have Gail Kim listed as one of the superstars released by WWE in 2010).

  • THETommyTommy

24/7 rules or not she still won it 6 times and no one else even comes close to that record. She was trading blows with Beth Pheonix, ODB and Katie Lea Burchill, two of which are multi-time women’s champions in WWE and TNA respectively.
