Legendary Hall of Famer, Bret Hart has called one of the WWE Divas ‘the best wrestler in the world right now’. Sorry niece Natalya, he’s not talking about you — rather three time Women’s Champion and current Divas Champion, Melina. Speaking to Ministry of Slam, Hart says:
“I think there’s some great wrestlers in the WWE. I think Melina is, you know to me is really creative and imaginative, and she’s an innovator and she comes up with some great matches, I love watching her wrestle. In a lot of ways I think she’s the best wrestler in the world right now.”

Bret has been very complimentary of the Divas in the past, including Melina, but his latest statement is just incredible. While it’s open for argument, bear in mind that it is Bret’s opinion, not that that will stop people bitching. Nonetheless, I can definitely see what he’s referring to — Melina, in my opinion, is the most exciting Diva to see wrestle. Her matches capture your attention and are creative and imaginative, as Bret says.
I can almost guarantee that word of Bret’s comments has reached Melina by now, so if you see her grinning ear-to-ear [moreso than usual] tonight on Raw, you’ll know why!

It’s always great when wrestling legends speak so highly of the ‘little old’ divas divison, and to receive a compliment off of Bret Hart must be amazing for her.
Melina deserves the ackolades (sp?)… You only have to watch her in the ring to see it.

None of the WWE divas are the best in the world right now, thats including Melina. She hasn’t been on her A game since coming over to RAW. Her matches with Jillian were sloppy and botched. There are even reports from the last house show that she botched like five spots and hurt Alicia Fox.
I certainly don’t believe she is one of the best in the world (considering her encounters with Jillian) , but she is certainly one of the better divas in the WWE…
Even the best have their off moments and it’s not Melina’s fault Jillian and Alicia can’t sell her moves! Honestly, Melina has been doing her last call finisher and split leg pin for over a year now and no one else screwed them up. So don’t dog on Melina for other wrestlers impotency. Just my opinion. :)
Bret meant she’s one of the BEST WOMEN WRESTLERS in the world and I have to agree,I just love melina,she’s so sweet to everyone,she has a great unique look,when she messes up,she’s always trying to correct herself,and she is so FIERCE in the ring,she’s a total package

It’s a wonderful compliment and well earned, if you ask me. Melina is certainly an innovative performer and provided an excellent summer for women’s wrestling with Michelle McCool. What I personally get from watching Melina is her undeniable passion for the art that is wrestling. She genuinely loves wrestling and it shows with every fibre of her being. Bret Hart is a gifted performer himself, so it’s definitely not a statement to be sniffed at.

Wow, there a compliment. What i really respected about Brett is the fact he said she was ‘the best wrestler in the world right now’ not the best diva, or female athlete but WRESTLER, showing that Brett seeing male and female wrestlers as equal :)
Such a shame that a topic that began as an honoured wrestler paying a compliment towards an underappreciated division descended into porno jibes. Even if Melina has done porn, what exactly does it have to do with her wrestling ability?

i think you’re confusing mickie james and melina…mickie did a few nude photoshoots (not hardcore porn)…melina hasn’t done porn and has expressed a distaste towards the idea of posing nude…
I’m really happy for Melina, that’s an awesome compliment from a legend like Bret Hart. However, I think to prove you’re a good wrestler you have to compete with other good wrestlers, and Melina just isn’t getting that right now. I mean yeah, Alicia Fox can wrestle, and she’s doing amazingly well so far, but she’s by no means one of the best in the company, and they keep matching them up. I would love to see Melina in a match with someone like Katie-Lea or Natalya and see how she fares then. That, for me, would be how I would rate her- can she perform with the best? Not that I’m trying to detract anything from this, I really am proud of her :D

also if she was the best she would have used a move which she invented or which not a known women’s wrestler uses. not saying wrestlers arent allowed to use others moves. but that doesnt makes you the best. Als MsChif ftw. she does the last call better.
I cannot believe the people here who are discrediting Bret Hart. Bret Hart is arguably one of the best technical wrestlers in the world who worked his way up and devoted his life to wrestling. Read his book – its an amazing book for any wrestling fan and shows what really goes on in the backgrounds.
On to my point, he never said she was the best wrestler, he said in several ways she is,specifically regarding her ability to be innovative and creative and I completely agree.
Its nice seeing someone of Bret Hart’s caliber to give such a high compliment to someone in a division that no one seems to care about. I hope Melina has heard it and she continues to be innovative.

Well, Bret’s speaking in an “all around” way–her charisma, style, and how she’s always putting thought into every aspect of her character–in addition to her wrestling skills. I don’t think he’s insinuating that she’d wrestle the pants off of some of those Japanese girls. You have to take it in the right context. I think it’s an awesome compliment either way.
In response to the “Melina porn” discussion, if you’re referring to those Christmas bodypaint photos, those aren’t porn. If you’re talking about more hardcore stuff, it simply doesn’t exist. If it did, they would have leaked a long time ago.

Regardless of how much people want to take away from the comment,its a great comment from Bret to Melina,and he’s praised her before in the past as well.Melina definitely has many great traits in her arsenal,and she can put on some damn good matches,especially when she has to conform to the new ‘diva style’ of wrestling.Congratulations,Melina,you deserve that praise and so much more!
Melina is “innovative” ? To earn that name you actually have to come up with your own moves, and as far as i know Melina has never invented her own moves, but she definately watched some Shimmer dvd ;-)
And i get the feeling Bret Hart only watches WWE/TNA, which would be more accurate if you put the emphasis on “best all-round”. There are dozens of indy wrestlers who are better than Melina when it comes to the technical aspect of wrestling, but many of them are lacking in promos, interviews, or just dont have charisma.

I knew by reading this everyone was either going to say she isnt the best or that Natalya or Beth are better. No Melina isnt the “best” wrestler ever but neither is Natalya. For a wrestler to be truly successful one must be at the top of their game and have that spark. Natalya is quite boring and Melina is very innovative. No she hasnt come up with her own moves but unlike James, oNatalya r Beth she has brought those moves to the WWE. She is a very creative woman and has everything, not just wrestling ability liek Natalya.

I HAVE to comment on this! Melina is one of my favorite divas & i think shes amazing,beautiful and passionate but I think Bret has some sort of crush on her or something lol. I think there are better wrestlers then her out there but every match she goes into you can see her passion & her will to wrestle as if it was her last match. You can hear the emotion pouring out of her lungs when she does her primal scream & i love her innovations and how unique she is in the ring. Melina is also one of the few superstars to change or add something to her moveset EVERYTIME shes in the ring.She’s amazing! but the ‘best in the world’ is a stretch Bret.
Why can’t we just stay focused on the positive side of things?! A legend just praised a female wrestler for her work, we as women wrestling fans should be happy for that and not complain!
Of course other divas like Beth, Natalya, Gail and, in my opinion, Michelle and Jillian have a better in-ring work, but we just should stay happy for the praise he gave Melina!

I agree with PedroPedroso17. We may have differing opinions, but no one can deny Bret Hart is a legend in wrestling period. And for him to come out and say Melina is, in HIS opinion mind you, the best wrestler in the world…that’s an honor. I can’t imagine higher praise coming from anyone else. She has a fire, a passion she brings to each of her matches and maybe she has pulled off some moves that other women have done – what move is honestly unique any more? Maybe her wrestling has inspired fans to look for other types of women’s wrestling, or even inspired women to try their hand at it. She’s certainly an inspiring person, having worked her way up to become one of the finest workers in the WWE, male or female.
If it were me that Bret Hart had said that about, I’d be amazed and honored. Not to mention speechless. You don’t see any other ‘legends’ praising women wrestlers, WWE or not. (Minus Hogan, giving props to Awesome Kong – equally cool!)
