I’m actually a little bit shocked with the way people have reacted to this. Over at the WWE Universe forums, Bret’s been called “someone who drank too much” and an “old fart who prefers Melina over his niece”, just because of his recent comments. Now I know saying a WWE Diva is “the best wrestler in the world” might be exaggerating it quite a bit, but calling The Hitman an old drunk just because he stated his opinion is sickening, especially considering this is one of the greatest technical wrestlers that ever lived. It’s rare of him to praise someone this much, especially a Diva.

Now I don’t know about you guys, but as far as I’m concerned, when The Hitman says someone can wrestle, they CAN; Melina has every right to be proud. Like it or not, Bret Hart knows a good wrestler when he sees one better than all of us.

I still cant believe ppl call Trish or melina the best wrestler. Its not an oppinion its a fact that Trish was and is the most overrated diva in history. Melina got really overrated since her face turn. Many divas such as Gail, beth or jillian deserve this push like Melina. and some people still dont know that WWE is fake and scripted.

When I read this quote elsewhere, I honestly figured either it was a typo or someone had misheard him. Cos, if he had made those comments about Melissa, they would have made perfect sense. But Melina? She’s alright, sure. But in the ‘E alone, Beth and Gail are better performers than her (when given the chance). And as for the indie circuit, Melina ain’t really in the same league as MsChif, Del Rey and the aforementioned Melissa, to name but a few.

Melina is a talented wrestler, but she is by no means the most talented diva and her in-ring work is rather sloppy. Natalya, Beth, Jillian, Gail and Mickie are as talented if not more talented. What puts Melina on the map is her ability to act, model, show character/personality and wrestle consistently, many other divas fall short in other categories.

i Agree with him, she may have had a few botches in some matches but they weren’t all on her behalf.
And come on Bret Hart is a legend! He know’s wrestling better than all you people who are disagreeing saying bla bla bla she botches. These are the words of a legend why question it?
Melina obvioulsy is one of the best right now, She’s extremely athletic, flexible and is in control when she’s in the ring. Honestly if she is not the best right now then who is?

I agree with PedroPedroso17. We may have differing opinions, but no one can deny Bret Hart is a legend in wrestling period. And for him to come out and say Melina is, in HIS opinion mind you, the best wrestler in the world…that’s an honor. I can’t imagine higher praise coming from anyone else. She has a fire, a passion she brings to each of her matches and maybe she has pulled off some moves that other women have done – what move is honestly unique any more? Maybe her wrestling has inspired fans to look for other types of women’s wrestling, or even inspired women to try their hand at it. She’s certainly an inspiring person, having worked her way up to become one of the finest workers in the WWE, male or female.

If it were me that Bret Hart had said that about, I’d be amazed and honored. Not to mention speechless. You don’t see any other ‘legends’ praising women wrestlers, WWE or not. (Minus Hogan, giving props to Awesome Kong – equally cool!)

Seriously, you guys? A legend in the industry actually singles out a female wrestler when asked who he thinks is talented, and we’re all going to bitch about it?! You can certainly disagree with Bret’s opinion. I love Melina, but I don’t know that she’s the best in the world right now. However, there’s no need for the claws to come out. Melina is extremely talented, as are many other women in the WWE. That goes unnoticed far too often. Let’s just all be happy that someone is finally giving a Diva some respect!

Why can’t we just stay focused on the positive side of things?! A legend just praised a female wrestler for her work, we as women wrestling fans should be happy for that and not complain!
Of course other divas like Beth, Natalya, Gail and, in my opinion, Michelle and Jillian have a better in-ring work, but we just should stay happy for the praise he gave Melina!

I HAVE to comment on this! Melina is one of my favorite divas & i think shes amazing,beautiful and passionate but I think Bret has some sort of crush on her or something lol. I think there are better wrestlers then her out there but every match she goes into you can see her passion & her will to wrestle as if it was her last match. You can hear the emotion pouring out of her lungs when she does her primal scream & i love her innovations and how unique she is in the ring. Melina is also one of the few superstars to change or add something to her moveset EVERYTIME shes in the ring.She’s amazing! but the ‘best in the world’ is a stretch Bret.

I knew by reading this everyone was either going to say she isnt the best or that Natalya or Beth are better. No Melina isnt the “best” wrestler ever but neither is Natalya. For a wrestler to be truly successful one must be at the top of their game and have that spark. Natalya is quite boring and Melina is very innovative. No she hasnt come up with her own moves but unlike James, oNatalya r Beth she has brought those moves to the WWE. She is a very creative woman and has everything, not just wrestling ability liek Natalya.

She is one of the better ones in the WWE, but not the best even in the wwe, let alone the world.

Melina is “innovative” ? To earn that name you actually have to come up with your own moves, and as far as i know Melina has never invented her own moves, but she definately watched some Shimmer dvd ;-)

And i get the feeling Bret Hart only watches WWE/TNA, which would be more accurate if you put the emphasis on “best all-round”. There are dozens of indy wrestlers who are better than Melina when it comes to the technical aspect of wrestling, but many of them are lacking in promos, interviews, or just dont have charisma.

LMFAO @ some of these comments.First of all,I don’t know where the hell this whole “porn” thing is coming from,but this isn’t exactly the place to discuss that.It makes me wonder how some of you were brought up.

Second of all,I listened to the rest of the interview,and Bret gave that compliment to like 5 or 10 other people,and to clarify,he said “In a lot of ways”,for those of you who can’t read or listen.He’s saying they have many great attributes that the best wrestler in the world would/should have,but is that just too hard to understand?

Regardless of how much people want to take away from the comment,its a great comment from Bret to Melina,and he’s praised her before in the past as well.Melina definitely has many great traits in her arsenal,and she can put on some damn good matches,especially when she has to conform to the new ‘diva style’ of wrestling.Congratulations,Melina,you deserve that praise and so much more!

Well, Bret’s speaking in an “all around” way–her charisma, style, and how she’s always putting thought into every aspect of her character–in addition to her wrestling skills. I don’t think he’s insinuating that she’d wrestle the pants off of some of those Japanese girls. You have to take it in the right context. I think it’s an awesome compliment either way.

In response to the “Melina porn” discussion, if you’re referring to those Christmas bodypaint photos, those aren’t porn. If you’re talking about more hardcore stuff, it simply doesn’t exist. If it did, they would have leaked a long time ago.

I cannot believe the people here who are discrediting Bret Hart. Bret Hart is arguably one of the best technical wrestlers in the world who worked his way up and devoted his life to wrestling. Read his book – its an amazing book for any wrestling fan and shows what really goes on in the backgrounds.

On to my point, he never said she was the best wrestler, he said in several ways she is,specifically regarding her ability to be innovative and creative and I completely agree.
Its nice seeing someone of Bret Hart’s caliber to give such a high compliment to someone in a division that no one seems to care about. I hope Melina has heard it and she continues to be innovative.

I’m really happy for Melina, that’s an awesome compliment from a legend like Bret Hart. However, I think to prove you’re a good wrestler you have to compete with other good wrestlers, and Melina just isn’t getting that right now. I mean yeah, Alicia Fox can wrestle, and she’s doing amazingly well so far, but she’s by no means one of the best in the company, and they keep matching them up. I would love to see Melina in a match with someone like Katie-Lea or Natalya and see how she fares then. That, for me, would be how I would rate her- can she perform with the best? Not that I’m trying to detract anything from this, I really am proud of her :D
