We’ve previously reported the news that Mickie James is set to embark on a country music career, and it now looks like she’s off to a good start. Today news broke that Mickie has been signed by Nashville producer Kent Wells, the man behind such country music acts as Dolly Parton, Michael Peterson, and Neal McCoy. Wells will produce Mickie’s debut album, which is due in stores this spring.
Do you think Mickie’s got what it takes to cut it as a country star, or should she stick with wrestling? Are you wary that this may lead to her leaving wrestling behind? Sing your song in the comments!

I hope she takes the time to call up Jillian for help! They’d sing a lovely country duet!
Honestly, I’m not a country fan, but I wish her the best!

Being a country fan and a Mickie James fan, I can’t wait for this!! Hopefully she’ll stay in wrestling for a bit longer. I wish her the best either way.

Good for her!

I was wary of Mickie leaving ever since she said she wasn’t (last week’s smackdown). It wouldn’t surprise me if her feud with McCool is to end with a career vs title match with Michelle “forcing” Mickie to retire.
Whether this means she is or isn’t leaving though, I’d take a stab at WWE not being happy with her pursuing a non-WWE interest.

Im supporting Mickie all the way….Yes she has what its takes and no Mickie dosent have to devote her whole life to wwe….There is other fish in the sea if wwe cant expect the fact that mickie is finding another hobby to do besides wrestling then they dont deserve her anymore. You cant try to be the best wrestling company out there and then try to sour on your employess and bury them b cuz they found something else to do besides get in the ring and kisss Vince’s asss.

I’m glad mickie signed, now WWE creative can cry over it:D

@darkmarvel- Good!! I’m sick of Taylor Swift. Anyone she does sound like???

Im really happy for her. BUT vince on the other hand…… i can just see him getting the release papers fresh out the printer.

I’m personally happy for her either way she decides to go. I mean if she stays, she could play the role of a true diva [pun intended] and think she’s above and beyond every other diva in WWE or it could be like Kaledrina said. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out. As long as she is happy, it’s all good.

i have a feeling she’s be gone in a year i can see eve or kelly kelly heading to smackdown soon to be the top faces put some character those girls and the heels on smackdown could easily carry them to some pretty good matches
December 4, 2009 at 3:10 am
I like Mickie James. She’s a good actress(Psych, USA network) But she can’t sing worth a damn!
December 4, 2009 at 3:14 am
@Paparazzi808– Your extremely right, i can imagine him doing that. And i bet by next year, Eve & Kellykelly will be on smackdown as a top diva.

Mickie is not a prisoner i suppport her endeavors and pursuing another project
Mickie has basically paid her dues what else more does she have to prove in WWE she has been wrestling for 10+ years so she is entitled for a career change and she has been the most hardworking diva she has not once taken eight months like Trish did.
She is a hard worker so i support her
Wrestling fans sometime have a problem grapsping that wrestlers can’t stay in the same thing forever so i am glad she is looking for something to fall back on.

Ask Lita and Lillian how their secondary music careers panned out.

Wrestling fans are often extremely selfish and consider a wrestler doing anything other than wrestling as a betrayal. Well take a look at wrestling look at the people who eat sleep and breath wrestling they either end up dead, murderers, old and broke or suffer from such chronic pain that they depend of pain killers. It’s healthy for them to have something else. This may be Mickies undoing but at the same time if it does take off WWE will likely switch their view on the subject for some advertisement.

Looks like TLC could be a fond, messy WWE Farewell.
Couple sites reported that Mickie was shown one video during pre-show production, then got hit with a much worse “Piggy” video live in the ring.
All this stuff about her “weight” has been bull, getting run off Raw and humiliated on Smackdown has been about Vince not being able to control her (and profit off her) outside the WWE.
Vince believes he makes stars, believes he made Mickie a star, and she goes outside the company on him for a management team.
VERY unhappy Vince.
Spring release…………what else happens in the Spring ? WrestleMania.
Put an album out you do the interview circuit and go on tour to support the album, dont see how she stays.
For Mickie’s sake, hope the interest from Nashville is sincere.
Management company doesnt even have a website, only a MySpace, and the PR firm has a “limited” clientele.
(Jerry Lawler is featured prominently on their web site)
Hope they arent using Mickie’s name and the WWE high profile for some easy publicity.
Best of luck to her, after 10 years in the ring she’s earned the right to open a new chapter in her life.

IM NOT OK WITH THIS
if you know that your 4 years company sent you a message telling you
FOCUS ON ME, and you get signed by nashville
well, i would not be sorry for you when you become the joke of Country Music and
have no wrestling career!

When all the flap started a few weeks ago about WWE being unhappy with her weight and outside interests, the real issue was her pursuing a career, not her weight. As was said earlier it would piss Vinnie Mac off to no end to take a virtually unknown girl named Alexis Laree, turn her into a superstar named Mickie James then use that fame to capitalize on a new career that Vince won’t be able to get a piece of. And since when is not being able to sing a hinderance to a music career (hello Jennifer Lopez)??
Her future could depend on the success of her music career. The Rock left because his movies were financially successful. I think one of the reasons Cena is still around his because most of his movies have bombed. He actually NEEDS his WWE career to promote his movies as opposed to the other way around. WWE has a lot of fans among the country music crowd, so it’s possible with the proper promotion she could make it in Nashville. I just think nowadays girls don’t get into the sport thinking they’ll do this for 25 years like the old days. Look at someone like Alexa Thatcher, one of the hottest upcoming stars and someone I thought was destined for the big leagues ( remember her squash vs. Kong in TNA). For whatever reason she decided she had had enough of wrestling and retired. In any event I believe that Vince and the powers that be aren’t happy about this, and this probably will be the beginning of the end. Other than Trish when was the last time a WWE Diva left on HER terms NOT Vince’s.

I hope that she continues to wrestle, but if this is Mickie’s cue to leave, they should let her go in a dignified way, instead of a release. Not saying a release is undignified, but a diva with the credentials of Mickie James deserves a good send off.
Perhaps a Trish-style ending would be nice, and if this release were iminant, winning the title off Michelle on her exit.

I am the kind of person who has ALWAYS believed that you should have a backup plan and that’s how I’ve lived by adult life. I go to university now and am getting a degree when what I really want to do doesn’t even require one–point is, it’s always good to have options. I hope that Mickie’s option works for her, because there is hardly ever as long a run for a female wrestler as there is for a male (in a way, understandably). There is no 100% job security (or close to it) in the WWE unless you’re a HHH or John Cena. Good luck, I say. It’d be nice to see someone largely successful outside the WWE, especially a woman.
December 4, 2009 at 9:46 pm
I’d actually need to hear her music before making a judgement
December 6, 2009 at 12:52 am
I’ve watched Mickie many times in the ring and does a good job.I believe that you only get one chance in life at that so when opportunity knocks the best thing Mickie can do is jump and go for it.
She’ll never know if she could do it until she does and make a nice career in music if the doesn’t take the risk. She’s
now 30 yrs old.And no time like the present to put being a WWE Diva behind at once and going for it.
She’s gonna have to spend a lot of time in the studio just to get the first album out.And hope the
public and her wwe fans like it enough to buy a lof of them.I already intend to.And I would suspect
that many of her fellow diva’s would be buying them off the shelf too/I say GO FOR IT “Mickie” you’ve only got one chance at everything. GOOD LUCK!!!
