Over the past week, we’ve received thousands of votes in the first round of our Woman of the Decade poll. Today, we narrow 16 women down to just eight as the field narrows. Based on your votes, in our first vote count of the competition, we have cut the eight lowest polling women. That means just eight remain!
The women still in the competition and vying for your votes are: Candice Michelle, Lilian Garcia, Lita, Melina, Michelle McCool, Mickie James, Torrie Wilson and Trish Stratus.
Next Monday, the four lowest polling women will once again be eliminated leaving just four to battle in the semi-final!

Still voting for Lita.
However, I’m going to do a little critic in this: I think you guys should show us how much % of votes each contestant received.
what a joke:|, people like torrie and candice michelle and michelle mccool and melina are still there but awesome kong and tara iisnt:S. yeah theyre good wrestlers but what have they really done for womens wrestling, some of them have had title reigns but awesome kong brought something that nobody has done before.

Really suprised at the final 8 women! Really thought Molly Holly and Victoria would have been in there even though i voted for Stacy Keibler! Hope someone other than Trish wins actually, I know she’s amazing and that but would be good to see someone else win for a change!!

This is a joke… I really refuse to vote.. Candice Michelle? MICHELLE MCCOOL???? They cannot even be named wrestlers, their names should never appear in the same sentences with the word “wrestler”. And… how were they selected in the first place? Where are Cheerleader Melissa, MsChif, MATSUMI TOYOTA???- these are real strong, talented women, not those bomboes in WWE. Sorry if my opinion bother you, but that is what I think.

It’s not completely about wrestling people! its about how well they entertained us & how much they gave every time they stepped out from behind the curtain.Yes,Victoria/Tara is great & so is Awesome Kong but its legends like Trish & Lita that shaped women’s wrestling as we know it today. They made the biggest impacts to me and every wrestling fan knows their names.So with that being said, I would love for one of them to win but i wouldnt mind if Melina or Mickie took it home too. :)

This is a “woman of the decade” contest, not the “best wrestler of the decade”. Awesome Kong might’ve changed womens wrestling for those people who watch TNA, but the majority still doesnt watch TNA and probably never even heard about her. While Trish, Lita and Lillian are known to basicly everyone. Although i agree that Candice and Torrie really shouldnt be in there, no matter what criteria you use ;-)

i still find it pathetic.. and i do agree trish and lita did do a lot for wrestling but torrie or michelle mccool has done jack shit for wrestling, ring announcing whatever the hell yous are saying this is for.. you guys may as well of just put christy hemme in here.. im sure she’d make it far if your saying eye candys and jobbers can be ‘woman of the decade’;)..
I’m sorry, I registered on this site, believing that people here are able to appreciate REAL women’s wrestling, but I was wrong. I have been reading all the articles and comments around here, and I am fed up with you guys here praising the WWE Divas. I thought this website is about women wrestling in general. So speaking of bimboes like Candice, Maria and others is a slap in the face of REAL wrestlers.
If you really had been reading the site you’d realize that we aren’t that big on Candice or Maria. I don’t thik calling them bimboes just because they can’t wrestle is fair, though. Both seem like very nice people.
im not going to go into details, but i know candice personally and saying she’s a bimbo is an understatement…
Anca — As a previous person wrote, this site is called Diva Dirt. We make no apologies for being more inclined towards WWE or TNA because they are broadcast worldwide and are more easily accessible to the majority and therefore is the prevalent form of women’s wrestling.
We respect all women’s wrestlers but we can’t talk about things that aren’t as easily accessible to ourselves or the majority of our readers.
Your horizons may be broader but your attitude blows.
kirstygraham — We put in 4 past/present TNA Knockouts in the poll and we feel that is a good amount given that the division is 2 years old. The fact none of them have made it through to this round is because they haven’t received enough votes. Perhaps put more energy in voting for your favourites or rallying for your favourites. At the end of the day — it’s only the Internet and hardly life-changing.

people who are complaining should go create their own site and do this themselves. this is a free site that i go to everyday because i love the content. if you dont agree with it that is fine, you dont have to pay for it. i am not trying to steer readers away from diva dirt, (i am sure i am not anyway), but really, if you dont like it and are “fed up” why are you here? like really, this poll was created so the fans could vote. apparently more fans like candice michelle then tara. is the world coming to an end? no. it doesnt have to change your mind, its just a fun poll..
and no i dont think candice michelle was anything but an average wrestler at best.

remember i can’t vote hundreds of times;).. and i did try by giving an explanation over why awesome kong did deserve it. it’s not just the fact the knockouts deserved it.. i think there were more deserving people instead of michelle or torrie, like chyna and ivory and maybe even jazz. all three of them are far more deserving than torrie and michelle.. the knockout division may only be two years old but theyve made a hell of an impact.
as much as i may agree or disagree with some of the choices, if you really don’t like it perhaps set-up a poll of your own? i mean no offence, but it’s not as if a diva dirt award is going in the lifetime acheivements part of the winning woman’s biography or anything. it’s just a bit of fun.
Bit annoyed to be honest, people can say its ‘woman of the decade’ but at the end of the day this is women in relation to wrestling companies/sports entertainement, not Playmate of the year. Sure, Torrie was entertaining in her hey day but she never achieved that much whilst she was there other than being the poster girl and valet, if it hadn’t been for her stint in WCW she’d just been along the lines of Joy Giovanni and numerous others. To see Kong go is a bit of a shame, not that I wanted her to win, but Gail I’m disappointed in not making it- obviously people aren’t that fussed by women’s contribution to wrestling of which Gail broke records, but people just still seem interested in Lita and Trish which seems a bit pointless even voting now. Can’t really see why Lilian made it, she was good at her job and she was there for an impressive 10 years, but still…Oh well, as much as people disagree with it, I’m going Michelle McCool, I think underneath the monotone voice she’s being sculpted into a futureproof great. Melina can have her same old, same old, with her banshee screams, but Michelle scored both Diva and Womens title so early on in her career and really sprouted from nothing (Teachers Pets anyone?) It shows if you really set out to impress and put effort in, you can actually go somewhere.

i think a lot of life is about first loves and many diva fans these days seem to have started watching during the reign of lita and trish. for me i’ll always remember sunny as being my first “diva” and even though i’d hate myself for it, if she were on a list like this i’d probably vote for her just for that reason.

Totally disagree with Looking Glass’s defense for Michelle McCool, to be honest. Sure, she’s accomplished a lot, and she’s improved as a wrestler, but her winning those two belts isn’t exactly a reaction of her popularity or ability to entertain a crowd, is it? WWE have insisted on pushing her since day one, hence her not being fired alongside Joy Giovanni, Lauren Jones and the rest of them. She’s had numerous failed gimmicks, yet they’ve still managed to craft her into their top diva, despite a complete lack of fan response.
On the other hand, you have Melina, who – despite not fitting the ideal mould of ‘Diva’ – has accomplished more than any other women since Trish and Lita left, bar Mickie James. Say what you will about them being overhyped, overrated or w/e, but fans have responded to them in a big say since debuting, be it as faces or as heels. They’re the only two believable female wrestlers who can get a response from the fans under any circumstance, and they’ve established themselves as the only strong cornerstones of a seemingly dying division. So yeah, I’d say their placing is justified. McCool? Candice? No. And I’m surprised Steph didn’t make the cut.

What is all this stuff with Melina ‘not fitting the Diva mould’? She’s one of the best looking women in the WWE, it’s not like she#s had a tough time as Mickie Knuckles or Hamada would face trying to become a Diva. Michelle’s failed gimmicks? I’m pretty sure only her Teacher gimmick was a failure because when she first won the title she was pretty well recieved by the fans who deemed her SD’s top Diva (Following Ashley’s absence) What I’m trying to say is we should be thinkingh about voting for women that are current, I mean how many awards do Lita and Trish win on these things by hanging off of accomplishments they’ve achieved five years ago? I’m not slating Melina, but since she’s become face she’s just boring, I tend to concentrate on which Divas are breaking the mould compared to who has already broken it. Melina? No. Michelle? Yes and its not like you can debate with it because at the end of the day Michelle was the FIRST Divas title and FIRST to win both titles, Melina is the third to do both and the fifth Divas title. I respect your opinion, but its the way I’m voting. I agree Candice shouldn’t be there though. Would like to see Natalya up there next year, hopefully 2010 is a good year for her.
