The brand we usually overlook had a surprise dose of Diva goodness last night, as Savannah debuted as the new ring announcer for the brand.
It looks like the move will be a permanent switch after Lauren Mayhew parted ways with the company last month. Savannah had previously worked as a backstage interviewer for all of a few weeks before disappearing off screens. Prior to being called up, she had shown a lot of promise in the ring in FCW where she was the first Queen of FCW.
A waste of a talent if you ask me. I’d have personally moved her over to SmackDown where the talent pool is a little shallow and had her team up with Mickie and Maria.
Though it has to be said, all that ‘ring announcer’ training on the FCW TV series has paid off as Savannah sounded confident and believable in her new role. Watch her debut below:

oh, wow. i guess it’s a promotion of sorts, but really, wwe? she’s probably better than half of your roster that do get to wrestle.
well now i know what happened to Katie lea
shes still on ECW, wearing a dumb mask.
because its not like smackdown needs anymore divas or anything ¬_¬
Yeah…more underused talent. Seriously, put the girls in smackdown and move the Bellas to ECW. The Bellas are the only one that are needed there as eye candy.
What makes me mad is they could easily start a feud with her and rosa they work pretty well together in fcw and it would most likely get more of a reaction form the crowd then the hurricane. I used to watch ecw just in case a diva was shown but now its like why bother its the same thing every week promo, squash match for new talent, the evil that is the abe show (has wwe ever let Tony hear his fake laugh or his voice), main even so its like 17 minutes of wrestling so sorry for the rant and go Ms. Fong for more air time
I’m all for Angela having a year or so as an announcer, then transitioning into wrestler. She’s not as great as everyone makes her out to be, in my opinion, so if they give her a while longer to train then good for her. Besides, with the dreaded ‘Mania-time releases coming up, her being a ring announcer secures her job more than being a backstage interviewer or jobber. ;)
She really did good with her announcing. My only complains, which is something I seen Lillian do a few times, is I wish Savannah would sell people’s gimmicks more. She just stands there with a huge smile on her face, when Kane enters the ring. I remember when a few people like Kane entered the ring, Lillian got the hell out of dodge! But I guess she’ll learn the “small things” in time.
Great. So WWE gets a great wrestler and they make her an announcer. She is NEEDED on Smackdown to allign with Mickie and Maria.
Savannah (ie: Angela Fong) spent most of the past summer season with WWE announcing at one live event after another all over the country. Although she has shown prowess in the ring as a wrestler I guess she will continue her announcing role full time for ECW. At least it gets her national exposure too, and she is good at it. I wonder if she is still working for FCW? She was this past week. Congratulations. :)
“So WWE gets a great wrestler and they make her an announcer.”
They made Natalya and Katie Lea valets, so that really doesnt come as a surprise to me ;-)
This yet again doesn’t surprise me! But I suppose WWE are probably now trying to get her more known by the fans and trying to build her popularity up, then when she eventually starts to wrestle, she will have more charisma! But I agree with everyone else she would be so much better on Smackdown aligning herself with Mickie and Maria!
Well if rumours are true and ECW is set to close in 2010, Savannah could very likely be on SD or Raw, though they might even rename ECW and keep Savannah in her usual role. Then again, its speculated with the brand changes that there are gonna be some cuts also throughout the whole of WWE, not just ECW, SmackDown could be at risk also as reports say that it hasn’t found its niche yet and needs to do so as Raw has the guest host theme keeping it ‘entertaining’ and making it stand out.
I don’t care for her as an announcer yet (something about her voice–the cheerful cadence, I don’t know). Hmm…
