Diva of the Year, Maria has revealed how she believes her 32,000+ Twitter followers helped her to her shocking Slammy win a week ago today.

Speaking in a behind the scenes interview with G4′s Attack of the Show, Maria says she was shocked by the win because she had been away ‘working on a charity’ [The Celebrity Apprentice] and thought that the WWE Universe had forgotten her. Watch the interview below:

Kanellis also reveals how she would have loved to have worked with Ivory as well as worked with Trish and Lita some more. She also says the worst bump she’s taken is from the recently demised Umaga.

Among Maria’s ambitions include her own television show and she also plans to release an album next spring. It seems as though Maria is using her WWE career as a launching pad for other projects in the entertainment industry like Mickie James and Stacy Keibler, both of whom are on WWE’s proverbial ‘shit list’. I find it surprising that part of the reason WWE is riding Mickie is because she’s working on a project outside of WWE using her celebrity [which WWE no doubt thinks they gave her], but Maria has also noted several times on Twitter that she’s working on her own CD — yet no backlash there. In fact, it seems Maria is getting a push going into the premiere of The Celebrity Apprentice next March. I guess you only get ragged on if you’re ‘fat’ and working on an outside project?

  1. I think the reason they are riding mickie harder is because mickie is more important to the show than maria is

  2. Pretty much what mffl413 said.
With a little more time, Mickie could be a future diva Hall of Famer (and we know how rare those are!) She is a multi-time champ, and probably one of their top 21st century divas, whereas if they released Maria, people would be upset at first, but they’d get over it.

  3. It’s stupid is sh!t that Mickie is getting heat for making an ablum and Maria isn’t. Shame Mickie didn’t have as many twitters as Maria, then WWE would have been eating their own words. =( Well I’ve complaint to them, and I’ll keep re-posting the same message daily until they do something. Doubt they will mind you but it’s worth a damn good try. >=)

Fun interview anyway, its cool Maria looked up to Ivory, what a woman to look up to. :D

  4. She does have the most followers on twitter out all the divas Maryse is 2nd with 31,000+ and Eve is 3rd with 27,000=+. But I don’t think her wining had anything to do with with how many followers she has lol she would say something like that.

  5. This is just speculation, but Maria could be getting less heat because her album is somehow tied to the WWE. Like John Cena and Jillian Hall, WWE could be making a profit off of her CD. It seems as if Mickie is playing to do it on her own and the WWE won’t be involved or taking a chunk of the money.

Either way, it’s completely unfair that they punish the woman who has given so much more to the company. Hopefully Mickie will be sucessful enough to leave them all in her dust ;)

  6. I love when Maria is real. She’s much more confident sounding in real life and I wish she would bring that out more on the show. I wasn’t a fan of Maria at all when I first started watching Smackdown, but every time I see her do something like this, I like her more and more.

  7. I think it’s really unfair that Mickie is getting punished like she is. I mean, plenty of TV time, a push as number one contender and the number one face, a pretty much undefeated streak (minus the PPV). That’s just so mean.

Oh wait, evil WWE is making fun of her weight by having the heels who no-one is supposed to like or listen to make fun of her. That will get everyone making fun of Mickie! It doesn’t matter that the face commentators, the people you are supposed to like and listen to, stick up for her (Jerry Lawler- “If you think Mickie James is fat you need to go to a seeing eye doctor”). It also doesn’t matter that Beth (who is still technically a heel) got angry at Michelle/Lalya for their treatment of Mickie.

I’m sorry, the whole storyline of Mickie vs Michelle is so crystal clear; its basically the plot of every bitchy girl highschool film/show. If WWE wanted to punish Mickie James, she wouldn’t have been given number one contendership, a PPV match and more TV than she’s had the past few years while having insults thrown at her character by people the audience isn’t supposed to like or respect. She would have been off TV, or she would ACTUALLY be embarrassed. As it is, this storyline is actually a pretty good way of making a comment about all the weight issues that dominate the media these days.

All the hostility towards this storyline is from the internet reports which ALWAYS have to be taken with a pinch of salt- and I can’t believe people still don’t remember to do this. When you look at the facts (the TV time, the undefeated streak, the PPV match, the number one contendership) this is the best punishment ever. All the insults do is get people behind her even more. Are any of the kids in the audience laughing at her and joining in with Michelle/Layla? No, because they don’t like them because they’re not supposed to and they’re not supposed to listen to them.

I cannot understand why people don’t understand this. This is the best push Mickie has had in years.

  8. she’s so lovely

  9. That would have been cool if Ivory could have stayed around the WWE longer and worked with Maria, she could helped improve her game a lot. Looking back at Maria, I was amazed to learn that even though she’s been in the company for 5 years, she’s been wrestling a little over two as an actual “wrestler”. Though I like her as a person, I have come to appreciate the fact she’s still trying to learn her craft (though, admittedly, less time doing shows and more time training like Candice did could help a little).

  10. I have to say that I like Maria as a person and I’m glad she cleared up the speculation about how long she’s been training. Most go off because she’s been in the company for so long but it seems they just taught her how to take bumps at first which was more common a few years ago with Diva training, teaching them how to take bumps before teaching them actual moves. I remember Trish said something about learning to take bumps very early in her career with no focus on her learning wrestling moves. I wonder what Maria’s music will sound like…that’s scary to think about.

  11. “I find it surprising that part of the reason WWE is riding Mickie is because she’s working on a project outside of WWE using her celebrity [which WWE no doubt thinks they gave her], but Maria has also noted several times on Twitter that she’s working on her own CD — yet no backlash there. …or they just know that Maria will never be a carrier of the women’s division like Mickie is, so it’s no real loss to them if she leaves. I guess that’s why WWE is bitter towards Mickie and not Maria.

  12. She is so sweet.

  13. I really don’t think Maria is usingthe WWE as “a launching pad”. She’s been with the company for over 5 years. Not every Diva stays with company as long as Ivory or Jackie Moore. 5-6 years seems like the standard. I think Maria is thinking about her career after the WWE. You don’t want to graduate college without a job waiting for ya.
