WWE had plans for Melina to wrestle on Monday’s episode of Raw, losing her Divas Championship in a match against Maryse reports the Wrestling Observer.
The website says: “There was talk of her being attacked backstage and then going in the ring and losing the title to Maryse.”
Plans were obviously changed as Melina didn’t appear on the show and the title was vacated and put on the line in a tournament. I’m glad WWE nixed this plan because it’d be far too risky to have Melina get physical with such an injury, it’s baffling that they even contemplated it.
Looks like Maryse fans will have to wait a few more weeks to see her inevitable title win.

Maybe they won’t end up putting the title on Maryse. I’m sure they will but maybe there’s a possibility that they are looking into another female (Gail perhaps?) winning the title and having a feud with Maryse.
I’m probably reading too much into it, but they have had injured women in the ring to drop the title (Jazz) or finish out feuds (Tori) before. So by crossing my fingers, maybe they are second guessing the Maryse thing or at least using her to drive a Gail Kim(or Kelly Kelly) vehicle.
Wow. I’m glad they nixed that. I agree that it would have been too risky. I prefer the tournament, which will allow Melina plenty of time to rest and heal up.

I think it would’ve been a short one or two move match probably involving Maryse using cheat tactics. I’ll gonna give WWE the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn’t put her in a full fledged match. A TV sendoff would’ve been nice though.
MarBu13 I’m with you in not automatically assuming the winner of the tourney. It’s just why would WWE go to great lengths to produce a program that’ll last a few weeks long only for us to know exactly what’ll happen?
I want maryse to win the title (shes my favourite raw diva after Eve) however i honestly don’t think maryse will be champ. i think there’ll be some sort of swerve ball in there. if gail beats maryse in the semi’s, then i think alicia will be champ. and otherwise i fear itll be kelly
i’m not oposed to maryse being champion as i quite like her but i hope she continues to train in the ring more as people like katie lea, gail and jillian deserve a push at least because katie hasnt even wrestled in months and jillian has been made a fool out of long enough (even if she plays it to perfection) i think after this maryse push the wwe really need to start actually writing stories for the raw divas and not use the same girls over and over again

Speaking of WWE, Talent relations Jonny Ace was at OVW today scouting talent so maybe we will have some new feature divas like former TNA Knouckout Josie who is training down there, Epiphany who is like a miniture version of Awesome Kong and the Blossom Twins.
I think out of all of them Josie stands the best chance of getting signed since she has had two or three try outs with them before. Hopefully she will be lucky like Serena, after her 3rd try out she was signed. :)
i dont want gail to win it right now because if their original plans was maryse as champion and gail wins she will probably have a tara title regin(2 or 3 weeks) and then maryse will get it. i have no prob with her as champ but i would want to see how gail or kelly would be as divas champion.
If Maryse doesn’t win the diva belt I would be shock. But just like MarBu13 and JuicyJuiceBox said why waste all this time just to give the belt to Maryse.
Ughh…I don’t wany maryse to win..what they NEED to do is establish a top face…they need to make gail or kelly become respected by the fans so they can chase the title. I fear that until melina comes back…it will just be complete maryse dominance since apparently the other girls dont stand a chance against her.

I think Josie can end up in WWE. Despite what they say, WWE does look at someone’s work in TNA and Josie had strong showings there. On the mic and in the ring. Now, they *might* go the Mickie James weight route with her, and request her to lose it if she has any chances of signing a developmental deal. But whatever. I’m rooting for her.
@xxChristinaxx – well, I would like to see Kelly hold the title because I think she’s evolved from where she started to where she is now and could carry a good reign as a top babyface champion. I watch Kelly vs Maryse matches and Kelly is better in the ring than Maryse pretty much 90% of the time. As for Maryse, I do NOT want to see her win the title, at all.
I agree with MarBu13. I think they are at least thinking about going another direction. Maryse is a good character, but in the ring she has steadily gotten worse, probably peaking way back when she feuded with McCool. Now that I’ve seen a Bella outshine her, I’d have to say she is the weakest wrestler on the roster outside of Maria. If they didn’t want to risk Melina – which is commendable – they could have just had some stupid match where a bunch of divas try retrieve something off a pole to win the vacated title last week or this week. The options are limited, but I still think they are being weighed.

@xkellykiller: Okay I agree with you. I might talk about Kelly a lot but she becoming solid in the ring depends who the match is with. Her match with Gail Kim/Beth was great but her matches with Alicia and Maryse have been not so great. Kelly can be a top babyface since she over with the crowd.

WWE need to give the title to new people so Kelly,Alicia, and Gail Kim would be great. If Kelly do win the diva belt I would be mad but I would get over; I just don’t want to see a feud between Maryse and Kelly.
When this kind of news leaks out, it usually means the expected winner doesn’t win. Most likely they will first give the title to Kelly Kelly, Eve or Gail Kim for a few weeks, and THEN pass it to Maryse.

I don’t think the WWE even cares enough about the Diva title to worry about potential spoilers getting out. LOL! So, I fully expect Maryse to win and botches to reign! Woo! LOL

well, IMO i dont see why anyone would want Gail as champ right now. Maryse should get it & then fued with Gail to help Gail build her character & be a top babyface. Can’t rush this stuff !
I’m glad they didn’t do that because Melina could’ve been hurt more. Even though they are doing this tournament I still think Maryse is going to end up winning the whole thing. I personally would like to see Alicia, Gail, or Kelly win. Kelly would probably make more sense out of the rest though.
What makes me mad is when Trish Stratus was out for 6 months with an injury and she wasnt forced to vacate her title and what the difference between Melina’s knee injury and Victoria’s because doesn’t Victoria have a issue with her ACL, All what she has to do is wear a brace to protect it, Why can’t Melina do the same? Does anyone know when Melina’s surgury will be?
Yeah, what IS going on with Victoria’s knee? I doubt the severity of her ACL problem isn’t that bad for her to pull a Stone Cold and wear a knee brace for years. But what ever happened?
Regardless if WWE puts the belt on Maryse or not, I like the tournament because its so much more prestigious than a raw battle royale. I also am looking forward to seeing other divas wrestle who arent maryse. even an eve vs alicia match would be a treat for me.
Victoria was suppose to get surgrey on it but didnt want to be out of action for 6months so now shes stuck with that crap

Look at it this way, would you rather see Maryse as the title chaser? At the end of the day, you all know that if she is chasing it, they will give it to her….. Sooooo, if she wins it now, then other talents like Gail Kim, Alicia Fox, Kelly Kelly etc. would get to chase for the title and show more of what they can do in the ring, thus winning it at the end of the feud. Personally I want Maryse as the next champion cause she is my fav. Diva, then I would like Gail Kim to take it off of her, reign for a good while, then have A-FOX take it off of her and reign. After that idk who would take it, but its just my opinion based on observations. The WWE loves Maryse, so if she chases the belt, she has an 80-95% chance of winning it, so just let them have there fun with her now, and then Gail & A-FOX will get there go at the title (:

Maryse should be champion. If anything, she will get the face over.
True, Maryse doesn’t get “traditionally” booed. But when the Diva she is facing FINALLY shuts her up in matches, the crowd gets into it. The Belllas haven’t been anything outside of arm candy, but the crowd was interested in that match on Monday. Same thing when she faced Kelly and Gail.
Maryse does have the ability to help get someone over. You can’t say that about any of the other divas.. No matter how “good” you think they are in the wrestling department.
