The Knockouts Tag Team Championship match on Monday night’s live episode of Impact saw a somewhat scary drop of viewers. The 9.15pm quarter, which the match was part of, lost 840,000 viewers though not necessarily to WWE’s Raw over on USA Network. The loss is the biggest drop for a segment in the company’s history.

It should be noted that the previous quarter [9pm] was the highest rated quarter for the three-hour show so while a significant drop, the rating was still high with 2,062,000 viewers watching — that’s more than an average episode of Impact which airs on Thursday nights.

Over on Raw, the Maryse vs Brie Bella watch which aired in the same quarter garnered 5,580,000 viewers which outdrew the opening segment with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.

It’s a shame that the segment lost as many viewers as it did given that it was easily one of the best matches of the night on either of the two shows. I guess it’s not necessarily down to the women either, as many people tuned in to watch Hulk Hogan and perhaps tuned out after he appeared. Meanwhile great news for the Divas!

  1. Ugh. Sad to hear about the Knockouts. I think the diva’s numbers could be attributed to the fact that most knew the match would only be but so long anyway. LOL

  2. That’s what they get for not showing Angelina (yeah.. I’m still not over it)

  3. I was sad to read this a few days ago. Some sexist pricks on one wrestling board claimed it was because no one wanted to see ‘ugly chicks’ (specifically Kong and Hamada wrestle). But let’s put it this way…they followed up HULK HOGAN!! Unless it was something involving NWO or Jeff Hardy following his segment up, it’d have been difficult for anyone else who aren’t household names who worked for either WWE or WCW. Any TNA original like AJ, Daniels or the X-Division (which draws much lower than the Knockouts Division, on average) would have probably suffered the same fate. Plus some folks may have switched over right after Hogan finished his appearance, thus unaware of what would follow it.

  4. But the beautiful people segment after the tagteam match, actually gained viewers (who then left again after TBP was done). That shows that people rather watch women play strippoker than a quality wrestling match with some of the best female wrestlers in the country.

  5. Cont…

If the match was in the first hour or NOT following up right after Hogan, they’d have probably not suffered this kind of drop. As I said, if an X-Division match came right after Hogan it too would have seen a huge drop in ratings.

So, Maryse not only outdrew everything knockout related like WWE joked about supposedly, but also Hulk Hogan & Bret Hart’s returns as well? God bless her. Lol. I guess Bella Twin A & B also deserve some credit.

    LOL good point, Burke211.

I read that after the knockouts tag match, the ratings went up when the strip poker segment with TBP showed.. idk how true that is.

  9. yayyy MARYSE!!

The divas match was JUST AFTER Bret’s return, what do they expect? xD

This is probably a sign of more, more AND MOOOOR…YSE. xD Honestly if she beats Gail Kim BEFORE the finals (and she probably will) then I’m done with RAW, even though that means no more Air Bourne, I’ll pay that sacrifice. xP

they were one of three sgements that got over 2 million viewers. i think that’s impressive. obviously, if they were on in the first hour, or even not on right after the hogan promo, they’d have had more.

i wouldn’t read too much into the maryse match getting a raise in viewers, either. not only was it on just after the hogan promo (curious viewers, turning back to raw) but it was also on during a commercial in tna (people turning over to wwe during the break). hell, i wouldn’t be surprised if there were commercials on raw when the numbers went up for the strip poker segment/s.

regardless of the numbers, it was still a massive win for wrestling overall and it makes me proud.

either way, it still says a lot that the knockouts get more viewers than jarrett himself ;)

Ha WWE was right!!!!! Maryse can get more ratings than KO Together!!! JK! I thought they were the highest segement on TNA. I am scare they are gonna end up like the divas.

I wish all of you would stop ragging on the divas, you guys should be praising for doing something noteworthy, just because of one botch you guys are all over them, and they also botched in the knockout tag match but no ones talks about that

In a related note about TNA’s rating, Dave Meltzer reported today that the show actually did a 1.4, not 1.5 like originally reported as the 1.5 came from not including the 5-minute overrun at the end when figuring out the overall rating.

I highly doubt it was Maryse that got people to tune into WWE since Bret Hart was on right before the match.

I dont think its no ones fault…. Come on PPL what do you expect here. YOu have Hulk Hogan in TNA who many thought he woudnt return to a wrestling company for as along as he lived. Then you have Bret Hart who got screwed 12 yrs ago and swore never to return 2 wwe. PPl wasnt worried abt Knockouts & Divas they were 2 busy worried about Hart & Hogan making an impact.

Then again If I were to say…Dixie should learn from this what happened to the old TNA knockouts action….so many talent so much going to waste. (Alissa Flash , Traci , Daffeny) Nope Instead you have 2 Knockouts fight over a belt like they r in preschool fighting over the last Cookie at Snack time.

Its also sad that TNA let some Blondie who flips her hair and runs around the ring beat them at ratings.
Well what can you say Maryse brought entertainment while the knockouts dissapointment. If I was chairmen of TNA or WWE I would have top matches nvr b4 done or seen to get the highest ratings

“I highly doubt it was Maryse that got people to tune into WWE since Bret Hart was on right before the match.”

The point was that Maryse’s match actually added viewers. The people who watched Bret and Shawn stayed for Maryse’s match rather than tuning out, plus viewers who didn’t watch the Bret-Shawn segment tuned into Maryse’s match.

you can’t tell people what to watch,if they would rather want to watch a non-talented blond like maryse that can’t wrestler to save her life over real womens wrestling, then thats there decision. Remember, womens wrestling doesn’t appeal to everyone, most men just care about the HOT girls shaking there asses

at the end of the day, the KNOCKOUT Tag match beat maryse vs. brie bella by 100000 miles and we all know that

chrisP- Or they just left their tv’s on and went to go take a piss break, thats what I did lol

I”m honestly not looking too much into the ratings drop or the rise. I don’t think it’s really fair to say that either of these matchs made that big of a difference in the ratings since Hogan and Hart were each on right around that time.

  22. Sexualseduction08

wow just saw the jillian and gail match and it was amazing you guys

  23. wwe proved thier point…maryse could beat tna’s KOs!!
i sound mean sayin this but im happy….im 100% with wwe althoug they underrate our divas

  24. Sexualseduction08

thanks someone who thinks like me, mah im glad someone other than me who thinks that

I really don’t think any ratings change had anything to do with Maryse, seeing as too many people who watch RAW only care about the men and lastly gazing at “some hot chicks”. They couldn’t care less about women’s wrestling, and so if it wasn’t Maryse, just enter some other diva in the slot and there you go. Over time, reading what some people put on here too, they like the divas over the Knockouts for the same reason, while continually complaining about their matches. It’s confusing. Personally I feel that if you have a complaint with something then you seek an alternative. Some people want WWE to “win” just because, and there’s nothing wrong with that per se because they like it better. But I can’t be sold on the idea that WWE’s women’s division is over TNA’s. They are in NO way better to me, because I couldn’t care less what the wrestler looks like. I’d rather see some normal looking/pretty women wrestling than some valet-level chicks that do a few moves in a few minutes and are then quickly rushed off screen. I like Divas (love Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, Gail Kim), but I’m going to stay rational. It just proves that some Divas fans are ONLY Divas fans, but even so there’s nothing wrong with it. It just doesn’t make any sense to me if the argument is based on looks and not (we’ll say) what they’re allowed to do (rather than saying “talent”, since there’s that excuse floating around). Maybe one should talk to WWE about underrating the Divas. Honestly, with some of them they only need 3 minute matches. My opinion. Put Maryse in a match vs a Knockout and see what would happen. lol
