Last week we were caught a bit off guard when the WWE decided to hold a tag team match instead of the semi-finals of the Divas Championship Tournament. It seemed to me back then that it would suck out what little momentum the tournament already had, but did it? Let’s take a look at this week’s action–two semi-finals matches–and see if the tournament has any momentum left going into the finals.

First up we have Maryse and Eve Torres in their semi-final match. Maryse gets on the microphone, telling the other Divas in the tournament that they are “just wasting their time”, and that she is most certainly going to win the Divas Championship. The Divas could have known this weeks ago if they only read Diva Dirt, but I suppose the point is made clearer when spoken in French. She is interrupted by guest GM Dulé Hill (of “Psyche” fame) messing with the pyrotechnics. He blasts the entrance ramp with pyro, and Maryse has a few choice words for him. It’s funny, and Hill provides a good foil for Maryse’s bitchy anger (he was also a good foil for another Diva’s wrath, but we’ll get to that later). Finally, Eve makes her entrance and the match starts:

They start with a tie-up, Eve delivering a few blows to Maryse and backing her into the corner. She continues with this dominance until the ref separates them. Maryse then slaps her across the face and goes for another, but Eve ducks and hits a dropkick, going for the pin. Maryse kicks out, and Michael Cole remarks how Eve winning would be a “mild upset”. Try total upset, Cole, you and me both know there ain’t no way Maryse is losing.

Maryse whips Eve into the ropes, but Eve stops her own momentum and delivers a kick to the face. She bounces off the ropes once more and slams Maryse to the mat hair first (maybe head first, but Maryse’s weave is looking mighty long these days..). Eve hits her somersault splash and attempts a pin, Maryse kicking out at 2. Maryse seeks refuge in the corner, but Eve sandwiches her with a flying clothesline, planting her to the mat with a scoop slam. She climbs to the top rope (Maryse casually~ getting into position), going for a moonsault that doesn’t connect. Maryse rolls out of the way just in time, and Eve eats mat.

Maryse looks to take advantage of this by hitting the French Kiss right then and there, but Eve reverses it into a Northern Lights Suplex. It wasn’t Molly Holly-esque by any means (she couldn’t hold the bridge, for one), but she goes for the pin nonetheless, and Maryse kicks out.

Maryse holds onto the ropes as Eve tries to drag her away, and Maryse kicks her in the stomach, pulling her to the center of the ring and planting her with the French Kiss. One provocative~ pin later, and Maryse advances to the finals.

Another Raw, another rushed Divas match. Another Raw, another match where Eve focused on the flash instead of hte substance. Another Raw, another match where Maryse barely wrestles but squeaks out the win. See a pattern here? You know, besides my repetitive sentence structure. If you listened to the D3 earlier today you would know that Melanie and I didn’t have the higest expectations going into this match, but it failed to even meet them, as low as they were. Maybe if both Divas got out of their respective comfort zones, we might have seen something new or interesting. As it is, it was a lackluster match and one not worthy of a semi-finals match in what is supposed to be a high-stakes tournament.

Sandwiched between our two semi-finals matches was a cameo by Kelly Kelly, who was brought up on the “random match generator” to face Carlito. It was nothing special, most likely just an excuse to give her face time. The segment expanded into something involving Santino and Jack Swagger, but don’t ask me what happened. All I know is that Kelly didn’t step foot into the ring, so I won’t bother posting video of it. Just imagine her standing around looking confused, and you’re up to speed. But on to more entertaining things:

Later in the night, guest GM Dulé Hill (of “interrupting Maryse’s promo with pyro” fame) is approached by Alicia Fox, who asks him if he really is a psychic, like the one his partner portrays on TV. Maybe that question would’ve been better delivered by Maria circa her “ditzy” phase, but it set up a pretty entertaining exchange. Hill tells Alicia that he envisions her winning her semi-final match with Gail Kim tonight, and that he will be at ringside to be her “good luck charm”. She insinuates that bad things will happen if he’s wrong, and blows him off when he tries to be cutesy with her. Cena summarizes what will happen to him if Alicia loses, and needless to say he’s going to be pulling for her all the way. Overall it was a funny little segment, and showcased some of that charisma that Alicia’s been hiding as of late. If only they could find a permanent foil for her foul attitude–is there any wrestler, male or female, with Hill’s comedic talents? Probably not, because then they’d be acting instead of wrestling. Sigh..

Cut to the match, and Hill is on commentary, mentally summoning the gods to deliver Alicia a victory. Meanwhile, Gail is already in the ring, and Alicia makes a super fast entrance (short on time, are we WWE? maybe that DX promo could have stood to have a few minutes shaved off of it). The match is on:

They get things going quick with a tie-up, Alicia taking control and getting Gail in a side headlock, whipping her to the mat. She keeps the headlock latched on, transitioning from the mat to her feet quickly. Gail shoves Alicia off of her and into the ropes, only to get a shoulder blast from Alicia, sending her to the mat. Alicia runs the ropes, leaping over Gail once and then getting catapulted by Gail’s legs and sent flying across the ring.

Gail attempts what I can only assume was a frankensteiner, but she finds herself perched precariously on Alicia’s shoulders, unable to do anything but flip her backwards into an awkward half hurricanrana. They tried to salvage it admirably, but it just didn’t look good at all. I think Alicia’s tallness factored into it–she just couldn’t fold herself enough to sell what was left of the botched move. Hopefully she can learn to manage her height a bit better in the ring (as I’ve noticed that she’s struggled with that a bit in the past), especially with the babyfaces on Raw being so hurricanrana-happy.

Alicia slips through to the apron despite Gail trying to keep her in, so Gail tosses her back in over the top rope. Gail batters Alicia into the corner, but Alicia turns the tables, grabbing Gail and slamming her into the corner instead. She slams Gail into the corner once more before hitting a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker and going for the pin. Gail kicks out at 2.

Alicia whips Gail into the corner and goes for a kick, but misses her mark. She turns around into a scoop slam by Gail. She attempts a pin, but only gets a 2-count. Gail picks her up, but is hooked into a small package. Gail manages to kick out at 2. Gail kicks Alicia in the back of the leg, hitting her with a forearm. Alicia shoves her off before she can hit her again. Off the ropes, Gail is picked up by Alicia, but she squirms free of the hold, switching it into the Eat Defeat. She pins Alicia and advances to the finals. Gail is thrilled, Alicia is pissed, and Hill is terrified.

Alicia recovers rather quickly (you need to sell it the move, girl!) and approaches Dulé outside the ring, yelling, “What happened to my victory?!”. He tries to explain that he didn’t mean to promise her that she would win, but she doesn’t want to hear any of it. He tells her he likes her shoes. She slaps him in the face and departs.

I haven’t been too keen on this guest GM thing, but I have to say that Dulé Hill was probably the most entertaining GM I’ve seen so far. For once, a GM added to the Divas’ product rather than detracted from it (hello, stupid GM-themed gimmick matches!). He was hilarious and a perfect partner for Alicia in their segments. Even with her loss, it felt like Alicia was given the rub, her character on full display. I wish they would delve into the more, possibly giving her a partner to play off of. For now I’m just content that they gave a Diva something to do with a GM that didn’t involve linking arms with them and making awkward sexual advances.

The match, like the Maryse/Eve match, definitely suffered from its short time frame. It felt like Gail and Alicia were rushing to finish in time, and the botch early on (which I attribute to both Divas and crappy timing) totally took the wind out of their sails. From then on, their chemistry was out of whack and there was miscommunication all over the place. It certainly wasn’t a match befitting the tournament, but come on, have any of the matches been thus far? It, in its lackluster-ness, was just par for the course.

Both matches tonight failed to excite–from Maryse and Eve’s predictable match to Gail and Alicia’s messy one–it was just a night of mediocre (or less) matches. I hesitate to put most of the blame on the Divas, as it’s pitiful how little time the WWE is giving them for matches that are supposed to hold some importance. It feels as though the clock is ticking in their heads, and it’s psyching them out, causing them to not wrestle fluidly and even botch. Booking can make or break a tournament, and it’s been proven time and time again in this tournament that the WWE doesn’t really give two shits about it. From the blink-and-you-missed-it matches to the inconsistent placement of those matches, it seems like these shows are just placeholders until Maryse can finally hold that butterfly belt. But when we finally get there, is it really going to be any better?

  1. Shame about RAW, yet Alicia did do something with her character, so maybe we can see more than that in the coming weeks. Oh wait therethis is RAW so I doubt it.

  2. Alicia was RAW’s saving grace IMO. I have a feeling she’ll interrupt the title match or something. She still seemed pretty pissed and I’d like to see that continue into the actual title match.

  3. It seems as if every couple of years a Diva comes along who gets praised prematurely and ends up disappointing us all when her “talent” unravels before our very eyes. Most people on here have made it known that’s how they feel about Maryse, but I think Eve could be the newest contender to that title. She’s just a mess. She comes across so hesitant and uncomfortable in the ring. I honestly think she could be a liability to herself or one of the other Divas someday.

  4. Just checked out Gail Kim vs. Alicia Fox. Much better than I anticipated. I’ve got to admit, I’ve found Alicia to be overrated in the past, but she really impressed me here.

  5. I totally agree with B Fizzle.
After Survivor Series 08 Maryse was like the Golden girl that everyone had such high hopes for. IMO she was great on Smackdown and I loved the heel vs heel fued with Michelle and I still to this day have no idea why they didn’t just make a fued between her Michelle and Gail. All girls had great chemistry.
Ever since Maryse moved to Raw she went dud, but I have a feeling that Eve is on her way down Maryse’s pre-paved path.
It’s dissapointing to see a diva that has had so much success come to Raw in what was supposed to be a “promotion” (which turned into more of a demotion) completely lose her roll and is now turning into abit of a spot monkey.
I to place the blame on the shitty attempt of a “womens division” mostly on WWE managment. These girls do have talent but what can you do when you work with people who couldn’t care two shits about you or your division as a whole.
Really quite sad if you think about it.

  6. Im so glad that Gail Kim won that match. I doubt she will beat Maryse but Gail Kim deserves to be in the finals. As far as Eve and Alicia Fox goes, ive seen a couple things from them that impress me, but then again, ive seen alot that hasnt. The Diva’s Title match has the possibility to be a good one. Heres hopin.

  7. WOW, Alicia was good ! She made a great job, love the storyline with the GM.

  8. First off Gail Kim is already in the ring … the match was rushed as usual (under 2 minutes for a semi final) … both women made mistakes … a fleeting shot of Gail Kim with arm raised at the end … more important to get to Alicia slapping the guest host and its comedy angle. I can hardly wait to see what WWE does with the final for the championship, oh Yes it has Maryse in it (sorry forgot that). With her there it should last four minutes, five minutes … do I hear six?

  9. Wow. Just now seeing any of this. Wth was Maryse doing? Maryse is physically beautiful but she doesn’t come off as sexy TO ME at all. Still think she’s like a crazy woman; she’d be such an awesome psycho character! lol Dulé is a pretty good seller, himself. That slap looked fierce.

I could really see the WWE not caring here, and everything seemed a little tense/frantic to me, the matches. No wonder AJ Styles said he wouldn’t work for them; I wouldn’t if I was him either! I can’t imagine what it must feel like for the Divas.

  10. I think that when Dulé did those things with the sound was so funny. He also copy Maryse when she does her hands in a wired way. LOL Maryse was telling his a$$ off in French.

The backstage segment was awesome. Just because Alicia came out of no where. LOL @ when Dulé hung the phone up so fast. I was so shock that they had Alicia in a segment with the #1 babyface. She had GREAT chemistry with both guys it was kind of hot, imo.

I think that when Gail Kim did the reverse rana on Alicia she was to close to the ropes and everything with down the hill from there. But Gail did some nice moves.

At the end of the match Alicia looked like a crazy ex girlfriend. I think that Alicia and Dule took Gail spotlight because she was the 1 who won. But LOL @ him saying I got a plane to catch, and nice shoes. Last week they made Alicia looked weak; this week she looked strong, but she lost a match. So ,I don’t know why they did that, but I’m happy they did.

  11. Dulé Hill was the best host so far,IMO. He was so funny every segment he was in was funny. He worked well with all the wrestlers he was with.

  12. Outside the ring Alica was good, inside. She was TERRIBLE!

She tried to oversell everything and Gail look alittle bit pissed after the match because Alicia was botching everything.

  13. Eve/Maryse was not good save for a couple of decent spots from Eve. Both women showed so much promise on SmackDown, only to look really unprotected on RAW.

Gail/Alicia was a bit better. The real story was A Fox though. Girl’s got a really good natural charisma to her and her interactions with the guest host were funny. That smack in the face at the end was great.

Don’t know how the final will turn out, quality-wise. All I know is at this stage Maryse is gonna be the next champ. And I won’t hold my breath as to who of the current Divas will dethrone her, as they’re probably waiting for Melina to recover to do that. Just like they didn’t establish a new top heel when Mickie was champ and Maryse was injured (Jillian’s win was a fluke and it was on the heels of that Diva trade).

  14. The Good: Eat Defeat, Alicia’s “relationship” with Dule, the slap, Eve attempts the moonsault, Eve reverses French Kiss attempt, Maryse blasts Dule for the inpromptu explosion (which BTW, had me thinking Maryse would lose the match, silly me).

The Bad: Alicia’s overuse of the backbreaker (the crowd used to ooh when it happened, now they don’t care), no scissors kick.

The Ugly: The botch in the Gail match.

  15. The Ugly: Both were 2 min matches and semis should be at least double that, maybe if they used last week for one match we could’ve had longer ones.

  16. Raw Fails Again! Although Alicia lost she is still my gurl and her tyme will come sooner or later. I guess the Diva writers of Raw have no faith or talent to put effort into this diva segements nd matches, Yet we get DX who gets longer promos than 2 weeks worth of……screw it 1 month worth of Diva time in and outside ring time on raw…

I agree B Fizzle Eve was so much better on SD she could have stayed and Help Mickie…but nope wwe likes to ruin stars carrers and thats what they r doing 2 Eve.

  17. i didnt like both matches…slow, boring and expected
im afraid the final match wont be good either

  18. BTW Alicia & Gail botch what Diva hasnt on Raw…..Raw has a long History of Botched moves by Divas. The only one who was on raw that i didnt see botch was Beth

  19. Eve/Maryse

    Good:

    - Her conversation with Dulé
    - Eve trying to hit the moonsault
    - Eve countering the first French Kiss attempt

    Bad:

    - Predictalbe match ending
    - Way too short

    Gail/Alicia

    Good:

    - Eat Defeat (Love that move)

    - Alicia’s hard slap

    Bad:

    - No Gail entrance

    - Again way too short

    - Botched move

These were the semifinals? You’re joking, right?

  20. I finally got a chance to watch Raw. The overall show was disappointing to me, not just the Diva action. I thought it was a terrible way to build towards the Royal Rumble for everyone. I don’t like the fact they never said when the Diva Championship match will take place so I’m not expecting it to happen Sunday with Michelle vs. Mickie already booked, and with a ton of heat. The outcomes of the respective matches were predictable but I liked the fact Maryse got to cut a promo, and I loved Alicia’s segment! Raw needs more Alicia Fox, in my opinion, and I wish it was going to be Alicia vs. Eva for the title.

  21. I actually LOVED that Reverse Hurricanrana from Gail, it looked like a real fight., not perfect, which is how it should be.

  22. Forgot to add that Alicia slapping Dule was the best part of the entire… out of everything. =)

  23. @Cryssi, Alicia and Eve are just not ready to hold the title yet, they are not very reliable in my opinion.
Where as I feel it is Gail Kim’s calling, she should take the Title.

  24. That’s your opinion, and I respect that. My whole thing is it’s pointless to do a tournament when it’s so predictable that Maryse is going to be the one winning the Championship.

As far as green champions go… Sheamus anyone? I definitely would say he’s not ready to be a champion, but he’s the premiere star on Raw (or so we’re supposed to think). It wouldn’t have hurt to have a swerve with Alicia and Eve in the finals. No one would have expected it and we probably wouldn’t be moaning about how predictable this has been.

    Just sayin’. =)

  25. Maryse I think can put on good matches again just give her time….Hopefully the championship match between the two will prove that Maryse can get it done in the ring….Overall both matches were decent imo…I agree hope they build a Maryse and Gail feud until Elimination Chamber!

  26. I’m still going with Maryse not winning the title. I’ve said it before: why invest four weeks in a program with a predictable ending? Right from the beginning I thought it’s not clear-cut that Maryse is going to take it.

  27. Other than Eve’s moonsault & Maryse’s finish – I think the interaction between Maryse & Dulé Hill was the best part :) I really liked Dulé Hill’s version of Maryse’s taunt, and Maryse having her French rant at him xD. However; i did “lol” at
“I do not accept your apology, I do not accept it. You disrespectful… Looseeeerr” :)

Liked the reverse hurricanrana from Gail onto Alicia – she seemed a tad long though as suggested on the Post-Raw Show. Eat Defeat was very nicely done – shame Alicia felt that they didn’t have much time left and didn’t continue to sell the move. :(

  28. Overall I think – Rather Entertaining – glad that more Divas got chance to interact with the GM rather thn the typical Bella assistance thing that they seem to do just because their twins.
But; I’d have rathered one match in the space which both of them took place – and maybe the second one could have been well advertised for SuperStars so that it wouldnt loose too much importance in comparison.

  29. BFizz Eve’s not a mess lmao (I could think of others ones who are but…..;)! but yeah it seemed that they wanted Eve to outwrestle for the both of them and Eve isn’t ready to carry Maryse in the match which is what she was trying to do, it’s a shmae since they were both doing well on Smackdown

  30. If anything it looked like Maryse maybe hurt Eve witht he DDT, damn, the one move Maryse does, she ffffs up lol!

  31. Neither match was great but not too disappointed considerng my expectations were low.

The highlight was Alicia and Dule.

As for Gail, I don’t think there’s a chance of her winning the title which is a shame. She’s felt like a background player for much of the tournament. Her qualifying match wasn’t even on Raw, she didn’t get an entrance this week and the emphasis was more on Alicia/Dule than her win and this segment was late in the show and rushed compared to the earlier Maryse match. Maryse has been visible on Raw over the past few weeks, cut a promo last night and seems to have the favour of management. It’d be shocking to see Gail win the title after all this.

  32. “Eve focused on the flash instead of the substance”, Exactly Erin It seems like eve just want’s to get a huge rush from the fans and the only way she thinks she can get that is by doing missed drop kick, half Moonsault and Flips, she is so much better then that i guess that just something she has to learn. And Maryse well she is not even a wrestler in my opinion she is just a diva, she cant wrestle just shows off her body and that has really gotten old, Alicia did good with the guest host she has a little spark to her and I like it, a little fiesty girl flavor and Gail well my Gail just seems to be there for the opponent side of things, she is so much better then wwe allows her to be and thats a damn shame. At the beginig of this tournament we all knew it was going to be a Maryse v Gail Championship match so no shock there, but with the promos Maryse is getting and the lack there Gail is getting( she didn’t even get and Entrance last nite come on), I fell Maryse will win. Am i looking forward to this match hardly not I love Gail but with her opponent being Maryse I am hardly excited, I expect this match to be next week after RR and For it to last a mere 4 1/2 minutes with Gail hitting huge pops, putting her body on the line to give the fans what they want but for what because in the end when the bell rings Maryse will hold that divas title why because she is literally that a diva not a wrestler like Gail, Alicia or even Eve she is just a damn diva. I will pray that in a few months at the Draft we see Gail moved to Smackdown because honestly her talents are getting lost in the scrammble over there on Monday Nights, I see it now her feuding with Beth or even Michelle are possibly teaming up with Mickie oh that would be Awsome. With the way Smackdown is going i fell divas like Gail are praying also to be moved.

“As far as green champions go… Sheamus anyone?”

Sheamus has 8+ years experience in wrestling and held several titles in his career already before moving to RAW. He might not be a ‘big name’ wrestler yet, but sofar his inring work and his promos were very solid. So he isnt really a good example to compare to Eve and Alicia ;-)

  34. I know Sheamus’ history, Mikas. I’m actually a fan of his. But compare him to the WWE standard of a champion (i.e. Cena, Orton, ect.) he is green in that respect. He’s not a so-called established or a big name. And it was shocking to see him win the title having only been on the roster for such a short time ;)

  35. Once again, foccusing on Maryse…she’s not that good. But anyways, that doesn’t make me angry. What makes me angry is that the chick barely wrestles. She just hits a kick or a punch and then she does the finisher. I’m sure she can do more moves, and it would be good for her to expand the number of used moves in her matches. Or, she will always be a stupidly overrated wrestler, and well…boring. Sorry Maryse fans, but its not her fault. Its fault of the guy who scripted this.

Anyways, I liked Alicia’s segment, and even though I’m sure that Maryse is going to win this tournament, I wished Gail did it instead. She’s a way better performer.

  36. this is just crap like raw totally messed up tonight. i alwys try to say maybe one day ra will get better. but i’m just setting my self up for failur. i remeber when i use to not have cable and couldn’t watch raw. and i would be so happy when i would be lucky to watch it. ( that was like in 2003-2005, i still watched it on the computer) but now i can’t stand it. it’s a comedy act. the divas matches use to be better on raw. like who seriously runs raw. us fans should start a petition. no more dx( because they take up to much time). no more short divas matches. they have to be as long as the guys. no more guest hosts. no more comedy act. this is why tna is kicking raws but in the wrestling field. sd! and sadfuly ecw is doing better. btw alicia did great loved the segment. maryse funny as hell on the mic and kelly, eve and gail looked hot.

  37. ”Just imagine her standing around looking confused, and you’re up to speed”. –

I LOL’d right there haha. I agree with the fact that when a diva gets moved from SD to RAW it’s more like a demotion. I loved the Maryse vs. Michelle McCool storyline & to be honest i didn’t want it to end! Maryse was alot more interesting on SD & then when she went to RAW it was like DUD, the end. It’s a shame RAW is the show that has the bigger audience & more exposure. I just wish more people could see SD & see what’s going on over there. As much as i love Maryse (check the name if you had any doubt) she is so much more interesting when she is chasing the belt rather then holding it.

  38. When Alicia an Gail botched that move, I literially closed my eyes because I was afraid of how much of a trainwreck it would be and BOY WAS IT.

i’m glad Gail is no longer a jobber but we all know she won’t win the title. just like Gails and Maryses last match together, I think Gail will do all her high flying moves ending with Maryse catching Gail off gaurd for the win

IDK why but I felt the Alicia/Dule segment was a LITTLE racist because they only used Alicia because she was Black like the guest host

  39. I think wat really makes the matches seem so bad is the crowd. i mean if they where a little more live the divas can get more excited and bust out some great moves.and with a dull crowd that makes you focus more on the match and then you know what the divas did bad. like last week some of us would have never even known that EVE missed that drop kick we would have been looking at the YOU SCREWED BRET signs or something.

  40. Geeze Louise, I hate the way how Gail loses a couple of matches via roll ups/cheating and automatically she’s a ‘jobber’, every match she’s been in have been ones of a decent length, not squashes, its not like a Kong open challenge. Also what about the Michelle and Maryse storyline? Was there even one? As far as I’m aware, Maryse did her usual ‘sexy of the sexy, better than you’ routine against Michelle, who was the Divas champion – it was hardly a thrilling arc – even after that Maryse was injured and what was left of the storyline was put on hold as they focused on turning Michelle. The match was way too short with the usual routine of Maryse being all mouth and no action in the beginning as it was with her Brie, before turning the tables at the last moment. I suppose this shows her as an opportunist, I just wish her matches would end any other way than hitting the French Kiss, because its just the same routine and a different opponent, it makes the whole thing ten times more predictable than it already is. Secondly, I hate simple DDT finishers, especially when like Maryse as a whole, most of the impact relies on her selling it through theatrics.

I feel for Eve, she is on the road to ruin over at Raw, demoted to some valet she has next to no chemistry with, notice how different she is with Masters compared to Cryme Tyme where she had a more active role in segments etc and could actually stand by the ring. I like the fact she attempted the moonsault instead of the altered cartwheel senton she usually does. Its been said a thousand times, the match was too short and of course too predictable. Hopefully Eve will be drafted back to SD as soon as possible, she’s getting lost in the Maryse show and deserves more than what she’s getting. I mean WWE managed to elevate Candice, I could see Eve becoming similiar to this, perhpas even more believable in a high profiled role?

Alicia and Gail was nice with the side plot going on with Alicia, but I don’t see why people are weeping about Gail’s entrance, she did use one, but WWE cut out entrances to cram in as many Hornswoggle segments as possible in between 2 minute Diva matches, which means sacrificing entrances etc. The match was okay, I’d prefer to see Gail be more aerial in her victories, rather than Eat Defeat, but that’s just me. Its funny how WWE seem to have devoted more of its time to the opening round than the semi-finals, maybe they were running out of ideas to ram Maryse down our throats and thought it was best to just hurry along with it? The result- predictable, much like a lot of things going on with the Raw Divas…

I actually pray that WWE realise that the ‘universe’ see they’re being taken for idiots and do the swerve idea. I mean its actually insulting to have this paraded around on television, when we’ve known months in advance what will happen. Surely, WWE look for audience feedback, surely they should know what we’re thinking? Can’t they just rip a few pages out of their Maryse bible?

  41. okay, i’ll give my two cents: communication was not at its best in the ring in EITHER match. but alicia is turning into one of the stronger all-around performers. she showed really good athleticism in the match, where it seems all gail has is a believable finisher. she also connected her moves more fluidly than the others, and gave [obviously] the best mic of the night.

  42. im so glad that Maryse won and she will be the Divas Champion again.
can someone translate what Maryse said in French, pleeeeease

  43. @ Looking Glass —

Maryse & Michelle McCool had a storyline spanning from about August 2008 until Maryse was drafted! Did you miss about 7 months of WWE television? Yea it was nothing to leap for joy over but it kept us interested. From Maryse chasing the title than actually winning the title to McCool turning heel & McCool thinking she was more worthy of the title than Maryse & attacking her thus setting up a match between the two (ect, ect, ect). The whole time they showed they didnt like each other (in real life & the storyline) and wanted to prove who was the top diva on SD. It was great but of course you wouldn’t think so. I’ve come to the conclusion that anything Maryse does or accomplishes you dislike it. Which is okay if your not a Maryse fan but you don’t have to consistently bash her. It gets a bit repetitive & boring, dontyathink?

  44. Maryse is the epitome of what critics deride the WWE’s women’s division and yet because she can flip her hair and act like she’s huffed a bag of glue whenever she cuts a promo, is also currently the most overrated female performer. I would like Maryse a lot more if the WWE executed her charisma in other avenues besides wrestling — because she stinks, quite frankly. Putting the title on someone whose injury is yet to fully rehabilitate or limited her confidence is a piss poor idea when you have people able to provide a lot more in the ring. Like her opponent, Gail Kim, whose progress to the finals has been curiously understated. For Maryse to look strong, the competition must seem irrelevant. Again, it’s very much true to what this show does best — insulting the viewer’s intelligence.

RAW is, as they say in French, a pile of merd.

  45. Oh dear, I see someone’s become a little sensitive just because I dislike a certain favourite of there’s. If my critique of Maryse is boring after what a month? Imagine how I must feel of seeing over a years worth of her doing the same old thing, I mean its not like I haven’t said anything that will leave Ms. Ouellet crying herself to sleep at night. I don’t like her finisher because like her portrayal and general wrestling career, I find it over dramaticised and the match itself WAS predictable. C’mon were you rooting for Eve? Course you weren’t otherwise you wouldn’t be ILUVMARYSE. I understand you like her, I just find it hard to like her for any other reason that she’s attractive.

And no, I don’t remember the storyline, who knows maybe I was comatosed by the endless loop that seems to be Maryse’s move-set. I mean, yeah she can wrestle to a degree, all I’m saying is keep things fresh every once in a while. I mean the French Kiss is hardly the Rock Bottom or the Stone Cold Stunner, most people see it as a DDT. Then again, my opinion doesn’t count as I’m not bowing down to my Maryse shrine does it? I’ve said in the past I think she’s talented in other aspects of wrestling and she’s very clever at how she can get by with such limited wrestling ability, I mean yeah she’s more useful than she was welcoming back the viewers in French. However am I her fan just because she’s made the transition? No.

I don’t know why I’m not allowed to state an opinion without you accusing me of just going against her. Do I tell you that you can’t have an opinion because you like her? Seriously, its nothing to lose sleep over.

  46. Decent matches considering my expectations were quite low.Maryse is most likely going to win,but a swreve with Gail winning owuld be awesome.Or maybe neither win?Someone could interrupt their match, laying them both out.

  47. Ummm, I actually value your opinion of Maryse & the whole ”I have a Maryse-shrine” was clever as well i LOL’d for that. I totally understand why your upset with her push & her successes but that’s not going to stop WWE from backing her. Just like they pushed Hogan to the blue skies even though he couldn’t wrestle a lick when he started. People like Cena, Batista & Trish are ALL pushed for the ”look & charisma” of a champion. Yes, they are all decent in the ring but it was their charm, charisma & look. All those things worked for them. If you haven’t known this by know WWE isn’t only interested in abilities to wrestle. Yes in a WRESTLING business WWE has to look for the ability to wrestle but it is also ENTERTAINMENT. You need to know how to connect & entertain with your audience & that’s something Maryse can do & sadly someone like Gail Kim struggles with. Maryse is popular like it or not & many people love her for her swagger & confidence. So maybe you should consider what program you are watching (depends if you really like RAW or not). If you want wrestling abilities & all these different things your preaching about you try SD or Impact (I’ve heard they are pretty good).

P.S — I’ll remember your routing for Maryse to WOW your mind next time i lose a night of sleep and/or bow down to my Maryse shrine ;)

  48. Its nice to know, but like I said just do something with her thats a bit different other than random segments with the Miz that just seem to put them on screen without any real purpose. Like I said, she’s come a long way from what she’s been use to in the company, if I were in her position I’d be milking it for all I can get, I just feel sometimes she’s force fed to us, in order to fill the Trish or Lita void, Maryse is charismatic enough to let her own personality to shine without having to repeat herself. For Maryse to wow me, it wouldn’t be a hard task, just do something different. I understand what you say about Raw, its slowly dwindling and I doubt we’ll ever see the days of the first Womens steel cage match, the Diva street fights etc. However at the same time, I’ll go against your advice of watching Impact, because its vast becoming Raw Jr.

As far as the tournament goes, I’d love by some miracle for somehow Kong to turn up on Raw and just destroy Gail and Maryse, It’d never happen, but it’d definitely be a WTF moment and possibly a new era for the Divas. Just a wild dream, I’m not deluding myself into thinking it will happen-point blank, it won’t.

  49. Alicia has more charisma than Maryse.

    Just sayin’.

  50. Humm, it seems like your blaming Maryse for something the writers are telling her to do. She’s has no control of what she’s going to be doing week-to-week. We all know RAW is heading down a path to no-where-ville. It’s not just Maryse that has no direction, it’s the entire show! It’s so sporadic you never know what’s going to happen! If it were up to me I would put SD on monday night’s & move RAW to friday night’s because the WWE franchise need’s a fresh, new overhaul! It’s so stale & unpredictably bad that it’s starting to get pathetic! I think this is the best time for Impact to step up & challenge the WWE like because I think that’s the only way WWE will get better & back to what we ALL use to love. It just recently started to go downhill but it’s defintely not to late to salvage.

BTW — i don’t really have a Maryse shrine or anything overly-obsessive like that. I’m just a fan not a stalker! LOL.
