It’s nearly time for the 2010 Royal Rumble and it’s got the Diva Dirt team feeling all resminiscent! Over the next day or so, we’re going to be rewinding the clock and reliving our favourite Rumble moments.
Melanie: My most memorable Rumble moment would be the 1999 event. I had just gotten into watching WWE a year prior so this was my first Rumble PPV complete with build-up on Raw etc. I had seen Rumble matches before but I’d never really watched the storylines grow to the event before this one. Anyway, as I started to watch WWE, I was immediately taken by Sable. As I mentioned on D3 yesterday, yes I realise now that she wasn’t the best wrestler but back then when I hadn’t seen ‘good’ women’s wrestling before, it was just cool to see a woman get in the ring and wrestle. I had become a big fan of Sable and she was the first woman I ever really followed in the industry. I particularly loved this match because it was a strap match and allowed a degree of physicality that I never expected from the women, using the strap seemed ‘hardcore’. It’s even more memorable now knowing that Sable wasn’t an experienced wrestler and was willing to work a match like this.

haha awesome stuff, I remember I watched a number of Sable vs Luna match’s and every time my dad came in and turned it off.. ‘You aint watching that you’ll get idea’s’ LOL.
Great match which played to their strengths. They should be in the HOF and it is a CRIME that Luna never was a champ.
P.S. Someone should send Luna Lacey’s way for training!
Are you kidding me?Sable should not be in the HOF just for her nasty attitude backstage.And Luna never winning the title is just sad,she deserved it way more than a lot of other women (Stephanie McMahon).
Luna was in an interview where she said that at first Sable was great,but when she started learning her star was rising she didn’t want to take any bumps at all anymore,and Vince agreed!I went back and checked matches where Sable was just starting out,and she took bumps.But when she started getting cheered like crazy?Hell no she didn’t take no bumps!Vince also told Luna to keep her hands off of Sable when Sable didn’t wanna take bumps.
Ever since learning all that info,Sable has been a bitch in my eyes,and deservedly so.

I didn’t really get into wrestling until about 2001/2002, so can anyone tell me who the plant was? I think I recognised her, but her face wasn’t very clear.
Luna and sable feud was one of the greatest womens feud in wrestling.
This feud was so great as the two women had such different looks and personalities. No other woman in WWE history has ever gotten the sort of reaction from fans that Sable did, she used to get cheers as big as the top guys did.
This one one of the first women’s matches I ever saw. I remember thinking Luna was the coolest thing ever.
Why is it that “hardcore” matches like these, always have the face win the match and not take any hard bumps??
Luna was on the receiving end of all the strap slaps, Sable wasn’t.
I noticed this same scenario with Taylor Wilde and Daffney, and their hardcore matches last year. Daffney took all of the big bumps, and I believe she lost all of the matches.
Like Sable, Taylor came out looking strong with the victories. It’s unfortunate that the women who are truly putting their bodies through more pain, do not get some sort of recognition, via winning at least a match or two.
@flytoadream I’m pretty sure that was Tori from DX, since they called her the stalker. I remember that she faced Sable at WM that year for the title, and lost, of course.
Although, it looked a lot like Nicole Bass.

great match, it feels weird remembering something soo long ago. doesn’t half make you feeld old, ha.
it’s also weird how, like you say with sable, i have a “special” place in my heart for the likes of terri, debra, sunny, the kat etc. they were nowhere near good in the ring, but i still loved them and like them to this day. the weird part is i can’t stand seeing the likes of the bellas, maria and rosa trying to wrestle when they’re actually a lot better than the “oldies” i just mentioned. make sense?
Its funny how in 1999/early 2000 and it was CHYNA,LITA,LUNA,JACQUELINE, and IVORY(back in her Right to Censor days). and then !!BOOM!! one woman and a set of puppies :) would change the look of womens wrestling.
p.s. CHYNA was looking like a Kardashian sister in the beginning.
Sable wasn’t the best wrestler, but I never understood why when she came back for her Torrie Wilson stuff she didn’t wrestle like this. I don’t think by any means she was bad! Also, her mic skills were pretty good too. I think Sable might have been the original Diva package.
Back then i hated Sable because i was used to better wrestling. But in the meantime 10 years have passed and i’ve seen so many bad diva+knockout matches that i must admit that Sable wasnt THAT bad. She also had character and the bookers didnt suck back then, that really helped her matches. This match even told a story with the action in the ring, you dont see that anymore.

Wow, this really is a blast from the past. Sable was super over back in the day wasn’t she? 1999-2000 is a cool time period to revisit every now and then: Sable, Luna, Ivory, PMS…I know I have a huge crush on Tori from this time haha.
Classic Match. I dont know much about Luna & Sable expect for there matches together.
TrishMelinaFan-Yeah Sable did have nasty attidude backstage I heard alot about that but what do you expect. She is HOTT as Hell vince was gonna do everything for her. Plus what Diva/Superstar dosent get Nasty and rude when there name gets out there and fans know who they really are. Up untill this day superstars/Divas still act that way…..I dont wanna say anyname but….you know LOL
Sable was IT back in the day, loved this match. Lita is probably the only female who has come close to the popularity that Sable had, she was one of the companies top draws and Vince knew it. The fact that she didnt want to bump comes down to the fact that she never wanted to be the BEST wrestler and said so in her interviews she did what she did to get by which is fine as she still put on a good match, also for her size she pulled of powermoves including a powerbomb on Marc Mero quite well.

This was the firts time I saw this match,or at least I was too young in 99…I was 7 xD However Sable is one of my favourite past Divas :)
I don’t much bout this fued yet the match was relly entertaining, and makes me think of when I was bout 6 playing WWF Attitude, I remember I liked Sable’s theme and it was cool her finisher was a Powerbomb.
@Goodvibes Lita never came close to Sables popularity – and Sable wasn’t even a seasoned wrestler or had the “different look” all the Lita marks go on about – and she was STILL more popular. No other Diva is even in the same league as Sable popularity wise.
The “fan” was Tori. She debuted as Sable’s stalker. She went on to fued with Sable, then had a relationship with Kane, turned heel joined DX, was Raven’s ninja woman, and was fired for failure to work off ring rust.
I miss Sable…I wish wwe could actually do storylines like this for raw again…WWE Could have someone like Maryse(Face) go against Katie Lea(heel) in a similar feud to this one…wwe could do so much with their talent, but they refuse too and it’s to the point where it’s pathetic.

I think Trish, Lita, and maybe Mickie might rival Sable’s popularity, hell even Torrie was pretty over for most of her WWE career. I do agree that Sable is the original Diva, yeah Sunny was popular and pretty but to be honest, I never heard of her before that time Trish won Diva of the Decade and Sunny was one of the nominees. Is that bad? All that said, this was a fun little match, I don’t like the Luna character too much but I liked the contrasting styles and looks in this match up. Sable was damn hot when she was in the WWF, almost Pamela Anderson hot lol. I wouldn’t make her take bumps either!
I don’t like Luna or Sable to be honest. But I did like this time period in Sable’s career because she wasn’t so much of a sexpot.
