They ended 2009 with an excellent pay per view match and now tonight, Michelle McCool and Mickie James have the dubious task of getting 2010 off on the right foot. Can they do it again? And who will walk away with the Women’s Championship at the Royal Rumble tonight? The Diva Dirt writers weigh in:

Cryssi: There seems to be only one logical outcome for this match and it’s one I don’t really care for. This entire storyline has been all about Michelle McCool and Layla, so it pains me to say that I think Mickie will be winning come Sunday. I don’t want her to be champion again but I find it hard to believe Michelle will retain. I sincerely hope the ‘E swerves us and Beth gets involved, costing Mickie the victory and pummeling Michelle afterward. Wouldn’t it be cool to see the Glamazon just take the Women’s Championship and walk off with it?

Erin: Michelle vs. Mickie – With how badly they have been ragging on Mickie these past weeks (hell, the whole feud RESTS on humiliating her), I can’t help but think there’s an endgame in it for her, specifically winning the Women’s Title. I don’t see why (other than company loyalty) she would agree to participate in such a degrading storyline if there was nothing for her to gain in the end. I also think of this in the old fashioned “who had the last laugh?” theory in predicting the PPV winner. Using this, Mickie hasn’t had the last laugh in… ever? So I suppose that brings her odds of winning to astronomical levels. Her not being o nthe last SmackDown almost had me doubting her odds of winning, but there’s too much weighing in the other direction. I’m going with Mickie, and hoping that with the title switch the fat jokes can magically disappear.

Melanie: I honestly can see this going either way. On the one hand, after all that she’s endured at the hands of Michelle and Lalya [and management], it seems now is the time to put it right by giving Mickie the belt. But on the other hand, Mickie has yet to gain the upperhand in this rivalry or even show any semblance of fighting back — this has been extremely one-sided and it seems the newly found effort into the Divas booking is due to finding new ways to humiliate Mickie. I could see WWE not giving Mickie the pay-off and just having Michelle retain, quite frankly. It’s a tough one to call but I think we’ll see Mickie become the new Women’s Champion tonight, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t either. Whatever happens here, I’d like to see Beth Phoenix involved to set up a three-way hopefully at WrestleMania. After the great match at TLC, I really hope Mickie and Michelle can make it two-for-two and with all the emotion surrounding this match, they have plenty to draw from.

Steven: This rivalry between Michelle and Mickie has been going on for quite some time now and has had it’s it’s fair share of twists and turns, including the addition of Beth Phoenix. However, I think we can all agree that Mickie has yet to have the upper hand on McCool and co. For this reason I see Mickie picking up her fifth Women’s Championship tonight at the Royal Rumble. And after all she’s endured these past months, she definitely deserves it.

  1. I hope not! There always seems to be a payoff and it would be a cool swerve to not do that and have Beth turn face after the match to keep Mickie in the WWE!

I think this would help the feud and give it new life into a diva match at WM!

  2. i think it will be Mickie as well, Michelle has held the tile for a wile and sadly it seems she is wrestling less and less, maybe she needs an operation it’s what they did with maryse so she could go have one

  3. Mickie should win it, or else this entire storyline is wasted. But there are too many uncertain factors. Does Michelle need time off to heal her injury? Is Mickie going to retire soon? Is Beth getting involved? We just dont know, so its really unpredictable. But normally a face always wins after a storyline like this.

Btw, if Mickie wins, then Beth’s record will be broken within a week. Beth held the Womens title 351 days and Mickie 344 days (combined title reigns), those 2 are the highest of the divas that are still active. If Mickie holds the title for 3 months, then she will also break the records of Sherri/Robin/Wendi.

  4. I dont believe what i am going to say, but KILL HER MICKIE! you need to win this ..

  5. by the way, am i the only one who is excited for The Divas Championship Match Tomorrow?

  6. My thoughts are a combination of Erin and Melanie’s prediction. I think Mickie will win just out of the logic that she’s been beaten down this whole angle, she needs one victory to send the “bullying’s not cool, kids” message and what better than winning the title to do that. At the same time, I can see Mickie not winning just so they can press this on to ‘Mania, where Mickie does get her grand victory. Any way you slice it, for me Mickie’s going to have to win the title, it just may not be tonight (I think she will though).

  7. I honestly can’t understand what the drawback of Mickie getting another title run would be. With McCool having the belt, it seems that because of her nagging injuries or Company politics, the only times we see Championship matches are on the PPVs. Yes, we hear of matches at house shows, but we all know how reluctant the WWE is to having a title change at a house show.

At least with Mickie having the belt, we know that there will be more Championship matches occurring. Especially since the WWE seems to be having a lot of fun at her expense right now.

And since the first single from her album is debuting in a little over 2 weeks and the Company has finally deigned to acknowlege her “outside venture”, it would make a little sense for them to finally show her some support.

And it would be REALLY nice to see them drop the fat jokes..

  8. I would like to see Mickie win, but the only problem is what will we have after this? Mickie vs Beth, seen that before. Mickie vs Michelle, again? Mickie vs Beth vs Michelle, still doesn’t seem to fresh. And I feel like Mickie vs Natalya is a slim to none chance. If Michelle wins and they continue this feud it’s not going to be very exciting. And, if Michelle wins the only face left would be. . .Maria. . .and we all know how GREAT that’d be! I’d like to see Michelle pick up the win tonight, but almost lose because of Layla. Next week have McCool attack Layla, wait a few weeks, then have Layla come back and attack McCool and there we go we’re all set up for a fresh feud. It’s time to see a new string of champions and I think Layla has what it takes.

  9. IDK whos gonna win because they normally give one diva all the hype on the Televised shows then when it comes down to the ppv that one dosent win. but thats not the case here LAY-COOL’S been getting beat up alot and MICKIE’S been getting humiliated alot so either way its a surprise to me.

  10. GO MICHELLE!! (:
She has really grown on me over the past year and a half.
Her role as a heel is phenominal, and she actualy reminds
me a bit of Trish Stratus. She can play heel or face, make the
fans love her or hate her, and to me she is the only one in WWE
    really showing that capability.

I really want to see her win this so that they can involve Beth and
have a triple threat at Wrestle Mania. && Think about it, if Michelle does
win, the whole Piggie James storyline will have to die out, and maybe they
can finally let Mickie show something out of this storyline, other than
that she is the joke of it all. If Mickie wins on the other hand, Michelle
and Layla will only continue there pranks I think for some time.

But if Michelle wins like I said, I really see them including Beth into the
storyline as a bit of a tweener, not caring who she has to side with or
go through to get the title, and in the end, hopefully at Wrestle Mania
she could win it, this starting a rivalry with the well deserving Natalya!

    Agree or Disagree (:

  11. Mickie should take this. She’s easily the premier woman of the WWE, and I pray to god that they aren’t using her as a ploy to get McCool over, like they did with Melina. It isn’t gonna happen, people. >_>

But yes, Mickie should win, and hopefully she’ll have a good run with the belt this time. WWE have pushed Melina ahead of her during all of her women’s title reigns (think about it…Melina/Trish and Melina/Beth were featured heavily when Mickie was champion in 2006 and 2008 respectively, they had her lose to Melina so as to get Melina on the WM as opposed to Mickie in early 2007, and she lost her third to Melina a few hours after winning it). But Melina’s injured now, so perhaps Mickie will get her chance. :)

  12. I’m sorry, but I don’t see anything about Michelle that is similar to Trish…sorry..But I’m going to say Mickie is going to because Michelle has put her through so much over these past couple of months and on top of that I’m tired of Michelle being champion. She has done nothing as champion but sit and do commentary. I’d be shocked if they have Michelle wins and theycarry this feud on until Wrestlemania. There is only so much you can do with this feud.

  13. Ya, I’d say Mickie will, and should win tonight. I’d love to see her, for the first time in her career, carry a championship into Wrestlemania instead of being placed on the backburner for a newly pushed diva (or silly playboy angle). And with her album soon to hit, I don’t see the WWE “punishing her” as some have suggested, but rewarding her. These days the WWE loves outside ventures by their talent, and always looks at it as an opportunity for more mainstream exposure.

Not to mention, Mickie is as popular now as she has been in years. A win by her would be good for the division.

  14. Mickie is my top favorite of course , but im not ready to see her champion again. I would like for this to end up in a DQ tbh….do a classic Lita vs Trish SS 04.
    That wont happen so…whatevers.

Although if Mickie James does b come a 5x Womens Champion 2nite. Then Hell Yeah Im gonna support her and b happy….

  15. i see mickie walking away with the title tonight….it will be her “revenge” for all the torment she has recieved from, Beautiful People wannabes, team lay-cool(I must admit I have grown fond of team lay-cool. They have been too funny as of late!)

  16. Michelle needs time off to rehab her injuries, and while I like when pro-wrestling does swerves, I think some people are just ready for this feud to end (or rather, not be based on what it’s based on). I agree that it will seem like “what was it all for?” if they continue as they have been. I think a serious beatdown from Mickie (and Beth?) could give Michelle a good excuse to leave for a while. I really don’t care if Beth goes good because faces are so boring to me. Tweening’s best to me–knock ‘em all over!

  17. This has to end. I’m so sick and tired of Mickie & Michelle and this ridiculous storyline. I’m praying Mickie gets the win and we can move on to something better. Michelle has been champion for a while and she hasn’t really done… anything. She doesn’t even wrestle half the time. She stands outside the ring and yells at people, more than she wrestles. I just think it’s time for a new champion and with a face champion, there’s more people to feud with (Beth, Layla, Nattie, Serena), while if we maintain a heel champion, the only active face we really have is Mickie, unless they want to put the strap on Maria.

  18. I no longer want Michelle to win,but Mickie either.I just want something cool to happen tonight.I wanna see a swerve.I think the coolest hitng ever would be to have a swerve, not with Beth, but with Layla.I wanna see Michelle’s worshiper-cronie turn on her bestie. They could build the storyline by saying Layla realized Michelle was just watching her own back a few weeks ago when Michelle fed Layla to Beth like nothing,so now she’s gonna watch her’s.That,my friends, would make my day. :)

  19. Go TEAM LAYCOOL!!! yeah I wanna see Layla take a huge push and get in the title running!!! XD

  20. WELL I JUST WATCH THE RUMBLE AND I AM HAPPY MICKIE JAMES BEAT MICHELLE
