Exclusive: Preview Maria Kanellis’ Debut Single, ‘Fantasy’

With her debut EP due on April 13th, WWE’s Maria Kanellis has given Diva Dirt a short preview clip of the record’s first single, ‘Fantasy’.

As we expected, the teaser suggests that the EP will feature pop-rock with enough angst to fill a Twilight soundtrack — and given the Diva’s love of the series, perhaps that’s her ultimate goal?

Listen to the 30 second preview below:

‘Fantasy’ is expected to premiere in full later this month and will be followed by EP album, ‘Sevin Sins’ in April.

Her voice is better than I expected for sure, yet what she was saying couldn’t reallly be heard over the loud music. Sounds more Emo/Rock than Pop/Rock yet good luck to her, that snippet wasn’t too bad.

Not too bad, im gettin a serious Evanesence vibe mixed with a bit of Hilary Duff and thats a good thing. Im very interested to hear the rest of the album.

I was expecting to cover my ears for a second, but its really catchy. Now I’m excited. Though regardless of how bad it could be I’ll probably buy it anyways just to show my support.

Even if I don’t like Maria; that’s not so bad ! Better than what I was expected

I heard her doing karaoke once and she was way worse than that…Still, she hasn’t an impressive voice…However not bad ;)

People…voice’s can be EDITED. If the cd voices were the real ones, we wouldn’t have that much people doing lip singing.

I kinda disliked it. It sounds like Paramore with corny lyrics and to popish voice. But I’ll wait for the whole song, to do a better judgment.

However, I admit I was expecting an avril lavigne vibe, so she gets a point in that. She actually surpassed my very low expectations, but is still not my time of songs. Guess the only WWE singer/band I will heard is Fozzy and…Fozzy.

It’s okay, better then I expected, but I just don’t like it. Her voice sounds overly autotuned and messed with way to much effects, and I could barley hear her. The music seemed to be louder then her voice.

Her voice was obviously edited, but still, even that can’t save some people. (Can it, Brooke Hogan?) I can’t speak for everyone, but I know I was expected bad and ended up being pleasantly surprised.

Better than her karaoke, but still awful.

@Ana_Nattie_rules sorry but if you think that sounds like paramore you must be tone death or thinking of someone else, the lead singer in paramore has a powerful voice unlike maria

it sounded ok, it was hard to hear her

    February 3, 2010 at 1:48 pm

If you had read correctly, you’ll see that i wrote that it sounded like Paramore but with a POPISH voice. So I wasn’t comparing Maria with Haley, I was talking about the music itself, not the voices.

So don’t put words in my text, or in this case don’t ignore great part of what I wrote.

  • theregoeskitty
    February 3, 2010 at 1:54 pm

um i didn’t put “words in your text” as you put it, i simply said that it doesn’t sound like paramore at all, no need to get stressy

  • Ana_Nattie_rules
    February 3, 2010 at 2:00 pm

I hasn’t stressed, I just has making my opinion even more understandable. Its not like I’m having a discussion, don’t worry xD. I usually don’t do that. At least not in the internet. I don’t like to have dramas over nothing.

oh no problem, after reading my first comment it sounded rude so i apologies for that

I apologize to. Sometimes I sound kinda harsh unintentionally xD

yeah i have a habit of doing the same thing XD

    February 3, 2010 at 2:24 pm

this was definitely auto-tuned (meaning her pitch was tweaked)… and she kind of swallows her sound… I don’t know… just some criticisms from somebody who has studied music for most of his life

still… definitely better than what i was expecting. good for her

It’s not half-bad. It will be interesting to see if this translates into musical success.

I’m pleasantly surprised. It sounds like the type of music I listen too. You go Maria!

    February 3, 2010 at 3:38 pm

She’s my least favorite diva but I have to admit this is pretty good she sounds kinda like Evanescence.

  • Lady Sheamus
    February 3, 2010 at 3:40 pm

It’s so 80s to me, in a way (the strains of the chorus), though I love the 80s! If she puts her music on a Twilight soundtrack she’s set. This in particular, though (not necessarily the genre), is not my cup of tea BUT I’m all for a person living their dream! :)

  • Lady Sheamus
    February 3, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Saying it’s 80s is not a bad thing, though. :)

    February 3, 2010 at 4:34 pm

@ Resi and Johnny: I was going to mention Evanescence too, yet didn’t want to compare Maria with Amy Lee, but I suppose it’s the music that sounds like Evanescence and not the vocal.

  • Lady Sheamus
    February 3, 2010 at 4:52 pm

@Zephyr5326 – Agreed, in regards to the music. I wanted to say “not the voice” but didn’t. I love Amy Lee’s voice. :)

    February 3, 2010 at 5:15 pm

Not bad. I really can’t judge much from a thirty second clip, and her voice isn’t really my cup of tea, but it at least sounds catchy.

  • JuicyJuiceBox
    February 3, 2010 at 5:33 pm

    Sounds overproduced to me.

  • Ingrid
    February 3, 2010 at 5:46 pm

Well… at least her voice isn’t her bubbly pitchy voice she gets when she is playing “dumb downed” maria.. better than I expected. A lot of auto tune though.. which is a shame.. I’ll have to hear more to judge if it’s “good” or not lol, or my “taste”

  • Ana_Nattie_rules
    February 3, 2010 at 5:49 pm

Omg, I really can’t see the comparisons you guys are making with Evanescence. I respect your opinions, but sorry, I dont see similarities at all.

Evanescence has a completely different type of sound, since the use of piano’s to violins, and way better guitar riffs. And the lyrics are so not Evanescence also. This sample of the songs, shows really basic lyrics. Amy’s lyrics are way more complicated, with amazing metaphors and words that some people might need a dictionary to understand. This as nothing to do with Evanescence: not in the musical composition and not even in the lyrics. Not going to mention the voices, because fortunately no one said that Maria singed like Amy.

i like her voice, it’s really good. it may not be like mariah carey or kelly clarkson or taylor swift, but it’s good.

Is not bad..but it seens over produced to me..overdone in the studio if I was to say..I dont see any resemblance with Evanescence´s Amy Lee..her voice is more natural..and clearer than Maria´s and the music doesnt hold similarities at all..As much as I would like to support Maria I cant seen to like this..the lyrics are far to generic..they scream disney type audience to me..is not something I would listen to..I enyoy meaningful songs with some good words…is just the type of words that will fit perfectly in some Disney Princess´s movie..but I think they will fail to capture a more mature audience…though I guess is a great replacement for the Jonas Brothers..lol.

What I heard wasn’t that bad,it was decent.I think the lyrics were corny as hell, though! XD
