After humiliating Michelle McCool and Layla at the Royal Rumble and snaring the coveted Women’s Championship on the same night, you’d think the jibes and taunts at Mickie James‘ expense would be over by now. Wrong. It’s evident that SmackDown has hit a creative roadblock as we seem to be going around in circles with little to no new storyline progressio — same old story. Watch this week’s action below:
McCool and Layla once again tease Mickie over her weight at the crafts table where a bowl of fruit is laid next to a bowl of cottage cheese. [Seriously, what crafts table has a bowl of cottage cheese anyway?] Mickie says that ‘this between us’ is over but Lay-Cool have other plans. Mickie smacks the bowl of cottage cheese out of Michelle’s hand and one obviously inserted sound effect later, we’re led to be believe that it was dumped all over a bystanding Vickie Guerrero.
In the ring then, we’re ready for Mickie vs Layla with James getting in a few forearms and a low dropkick before the match is stopped by Guerrero. Looks like Mickie is set to catch hell from Vickie. Guerrero makes the match a handicap match and as if by magic, Michelle is already taking off her hoodie, belt and shoes. As McCool gets in the ring, she’s attacked by Mickie who then fights back with a kick to the stomach as Layla gets her licks in. Mickie is thrown against the ropes but comes back with a kick to Michelle and slams her face first to the canvas. She then follows through with a Thesz Press on Layla. Michelle comes at her, Mickie sweeps her off her feet and goes for a bridged pin but Layla hits her with a low dropkick, breaking up the pin.
Mickie tries to fight back against Lay-Cool but is overpowered by McCool who hits her with a spinning backbreaker. Mickie is thrown into a corner and McCool hits a high knee. Layla then has her turn but is thrown over the top ropes by Mickie who then hits her with a forearm. She hits McCool with an elbow and goes for her patented headscissors from the corner but Layla grabs her hair. Mickie is forced to let go of the hold on Michelle and then kicks Layla off the apron.
Michelle comes charging at her with a huge [barefoot] big boot and a Faith Breaker for the win.
Honestly, there wasn’t much to write home about with SmackDown this week and it doesn’t seem as though the writers know where to go next other than setting up an obvious rematch for Michelle McCool. The inconsistencies that much plague Raw are creeping through to SmackDown with ADD-like booking, not following through on what happened last week. Where the hell was Beth Phoenix? After playing such a huge role last week, taking out both Mickie and Michelle, it served no purpose to drop her this week and not pick up on that. It seems like their priority changed between last week’s taping and this one, with Beth now being dropped in favour of a straight rematch between Mickie and McCool. No doubt that will probably change again soon next week.
I do however like the inclusion of Vickie Guerrero, who now seems to be gunning for Mickie just as much as Lay-Cool. It is about time her evil, villainous character was extended to the Divas division — I mean she is a woman herself. Who better to add heat to a storyline than Vickie Guerrero? I’d love to see her fully align herself with Michelle and Layla, hopefully rubbing some of that heel heat onto those two. There are again inconsistencies here as Vickie is often teased on WWE over her own weight, why would she be siding with Lay-Cool? I guess it’s the old Diva mentality that all babyfaces are BFFs and all heels are BFFs. I’d like to see McCool and Layla sort of ‘butter up’ Vickie to get what they want i.e. to get the Women’s Title back around Michelle’s waist.
In all though, it was an okay effort but it really does seem like we’re going around in circles at this point. The problem is there are no payoffs on the books for the Divas, so they don’t know what they’re gearing towards and they end up throwing away weeks of programming with filler, which is what I think this is storyline wise. If they had a clear end date i.e. WrestleMania, they could plan backwards and know what they want to do every week to build up the storyline. There’s no telling what the Divas match will be at ‘Mania at the moment, so there’s nothing to really plan for.
I’m not holding my breath for any new storyline development until after the Elimination Chamber pay per view when they begin firming up plans for ‘Mania at which point we’ll finally some development or as the case be, the end of this storyline in favour of a new one going into the event. Until then, it’s a waiting game and we’ll likely see more of the same next week.

This weeks SD! was alright. We have to take into consideration that Michelle has a rematch although they still could have built towards that and included Beth. However what we got wasn’t bad. A backstage segment is always a plus and with Vickie involved, it made the whole thnig more interesting. I guess we’ll be seeing Michelle vs Mickie in a rematch the SD! before Elimination Chamber, so Mickie can defend her title and Maryse wins the Divas Title thus creating the likely Champ vs Champ match at Mania. I’d rather not see this, yet it’s probably going to happen.
i wouldn’t be surprised if Mickies title reign is short, usually when someone holds a title for a long time(like michelle), the next 2 champions only hold it from a 1-3 months
I’m guessing the wrestlemania match with either be a battle royal(PLEASE NO) or a champion vs. champion match( I DON’T WANNA SEE MARYSE VS. MICKIE AGAIN, I’m still recovering from their last fued). But then again I could be wrong, I could also see a triple threat match between Beth, Michelle and Mickie and If that match did happen, I know for sure Mickie would win since she always gets 1 PPV win with every title reign she has
This weeks smackdown was a big fail, poorly booked and just boring.
I liked this weeks Smackdown! I actually loled at Vickie’s involvement. The dropping of the Beth angle was indeed strange but I guess they’re trying to throw Vickie more into the picture. I would’ve liked to see Beth Phoenix challenge McCool for the No 1 contendership. A one on one match up between the two is the only thing we haven’t seen yet.

I liked the Vickie involvement. The rest was kinda boring. At least they could have put Beth in this, to make more sense.
I like Vickie and love hearing her say Excuse Me. I liked the promo backstage. I still wish they would bring somebody in to help Mickie cause her getting beatdown by everyone every week is starting to get boring. The match was passable though.
Yeah this week was pretty boring. It seems they dont know where to go anymore. I would say still use Beth in the storyline , have Michelle get her rematch. Then add Natalya to it. So it can be a fatal 4 way fued set up for wrestlemania. Then after that its the draft so there will b new divas to fued with.
regardless of how repetitive this storyline is, at least there is one. RAW could learn something.
i wonder if this will turn into the old GM taking out they’re anger on a superstar or Diva story line, it is always kinda funny seeing Vikki get food or slop thrown on her, she just plays a p*ssed off character well. yet again maria doesnt bother to help mickie…i thought they were meant to be BFF’s? lol
Why are people convinced that Wrestlemania will have a title for title match? That makes zero sense. Dave Meltzer has a pretty spotty track record in recent year. So don’t assume he’s correct.
I think they will drag this storyline out to Wrestlemania. I just hope Beth gets a strong push going into the show. She’s the only interesting woman in the company right now. Michelle and Layla are alright, but Mickie is so boring nowadays. Her promo backstage was brutal. She honestly looks like she doesn’t care anymore. Music is obviously her priority now.
That was GREAT, IMO. Love Lay-Cool especially Layla! I wish the RAW divas have a storyline besides Maryse and her speaking french:(.
I think at Wrestlemania it’s going to be Raw divas vs. Smackdown divas.
i’ve seen a few rumours around about them unifying the women’s belts at WM – i hope it’s not true, but if it is, i think there’s a good chance mccool will be the one to win that.. wouldn’t be too surprised if mickie loses the belt at the eventual rematch.

This was a LOT better than the spoilers led me to believe it would be. Mickie was funny backstage. I like that they added Vickie Guerrero.
It’s weird that Beth wasn’t involved, but they really have written themselves into a corner with that storyline. I want to see Maria more. She’s not great in the ring, but her personality adds to any storyline.
Smackdown started off too good this year. They had nowhere to go but down.
I think they should’ve had it as a handicap match from the beginning and then when LayCool started the cottage cheese thing Mickie should’ve literally shoved it in their faces. There now see how easy it is to fix this whole thing?
I agree with the ADD booking comment. I think the matches themselves are pretty good but because there is no serious storyline progression anywhere it hard to find meaning in them. I like it when they have something to work towards at least. Michelle Mccool is now my fav diva. She has really been growing on me and I know she hasn’t been that present in the ring as of late but everytime she does make it in she does NOT dissapoint.
Is a Maria/Natalya angle brewing? Maybe. Maybe not. But it’s at least different.

I thought SmackDown was just alright this week. Not brilliant, but not bad. Glad Michelle got the win.
I know there wasn’t much story progression here and The Glamazon was mysteriously (and stupidly) absent from Smackdown but I realy enjoyed this weeks show. It entertained me and even though I realize that this fued between Lay-Cool and Mickie isn’t going anywhere fast I find it hard to criticize these girls this week. All four of them (Vickie included) did a great job.
I mean compare this to Raw this week? there is realy no comparison at all… On saying all that I think even though I did like this weeks Smackdown we need Lay-Cool to find someone else to torment and have Beth realy go crazy for the title! :D
I personally like the slow burn build of this storyline. Certainly the most interesting women’s related thing compared with RAW or TNA.
it can mean nothing but Beth acted as a face in her defeat against McCool and have a good reaction in the house show at Quito,Ecuador….they usually try things in the house shows to see if it´s worth using it on TV,i hope it´s a good sign for the SD show itself.
