Women’s Champion Mickie James‘ debut single has premiered. The track ‘Are You With Me?’ hits radio today and will be succeeded by James’ debut album, ‘Strangers & Angels’ on March 23rd. Click here for the full cover art for the single.

The track is almost country-rock, a big difference from the Taylor Swift pop-country route I expected Mickie to go. I’m getting a Miley Cyrus vibe from Mickie’s voice — loud, shouty and garish. I can’t say this is working for me, in fact I got second hand embarassment listening to it. Thumbs down from me, I’m afraid but good luck to her.

i like the chorus, but the verses aren’t great, the writing kinda sucks, i think the chorus should be her new theme
The melody isnt bad. Far from original, but not bad. Kinda reminds me to late 80′s rock by female-fronted bands (Lita Ford etc), but with some country influences.
The main problem in this song is not the melody though, it’s her voice. First of all, the volume of the music is annoyingly high compared to the volume of her voice, and i don’t really think her voice fits this music, but i am not a country fan, so what do i know…
I also have doubts if she will be able to perform this song live without playbacking.
i actually enjoyed it, i don’t like a lot of country but this i like.

It’s actually a lot better than I thought it would be, especially after hearing Maria. It’s not my type of music at all & I won’t be buying her album but good luck to her.
I did find the parts where she was almost talking kind of weird because I was recognizing her voice from promos lol

It wasn’t what I was expecting AT AL!. Country-rock to be sure. I like it, actually! :) I feel something like this more than something like Taylor Swift (which is hardly country at all to me). Because the song’s lyrics aren’t strong, she would need a really good music video to make it better. Sometimes I don’t get into a song until I see the video. I love 80s rock, particularly women’s 80s rock, so I enjoy this type of singing. Liking it regardless of whether it’s Mickie James or not, because I’m actually not a particular fan of hers.
I like maria’s more even tho I like Mickie more.

Nowdays, everyone can ‘sing’ if they want to record a song… I’d rather listen to Maria’s one…
Her voice doesn’t really shine on this one does it? With the backing vocals and loud guitars and drums, it all really drowns her out.
As cold as it may sound, country is not my cup of tea so I’m not going to try fool myself into liking it.

I was pleasantly surprised. I am not a fan of country music, but I like her voice for whatever reason. I’ll probably get the album just to support her because she’s a diva and I like to add to my 6000+ song collection, lol.
Maria’s music is more my style though.
I’m also getting Miley Cyrus vibes from her music, aswel as a bit of P!nk (in the way her voice sounds when shes more so talking)

It sounds like a mix between Miley, Taylor Swift and Bon Jovi, so its weird to me. I kinda dislike country music, so I wasn’t expecting much from this.

It was decent. I’m hoping to hear something that really showcases her voice though. Because I still can’t tell whether she can sing or not. LOL

Really though, it wasn’t that bad; her voice is a bit too shouty but it was ok.
Come on people, listen to this with an unbiased ear. She can’t sing at all. Why do you think her voice is so drowned out by the music and effects? Good luck to her. But she will not appeal to anybody outside of her hardcore fans, who have proably already convinced themselves this is better than it really is. Just like her wrestling :)
My mum thought it was a guy singing at first :L woops! But I like it, usually don’t like country music but this is’nt too bad. Not realy my type of music but it’s ok. Good Luck to Mickie with this! I realy do hope it does well! :D
S’alright. Not something I’d buy, but that’s no reflection on the track, country music just ain’t my cuppa tea. Still, it sounds just as good as most of the radio friendly country stuff that crosses over to the mainstream and Mickie’s got a solid voice that comes through well. It’s certainly a lot better than Maria’s Evanescence-Lite Wannabemo track!
I like it! It kind of reminds me of Shania Twain in a weird way. I really like her voice too. Maybe I’m in the minority here, but that must be on account of all those years of listening to country with my grandparents
God bless Mickie. She doesn’t have a “cool” bone in her body. To say this is a misstep is an understatement. Expect LayCool to have more ammunition. I really hope the rest of the album is less gaudy than this song.
She should stick to her day job. That was not very good, the lyrics are way too cliche for a country song.

Sounds like a filler track Miley Cyrus passed on, which is a good and bad thing. Luckily for Mickie you don’t have to be a great singer to succeed in country. All she has to do is come off relatable to country fans and be that farm girl next door. They love that crap. Just by the cover art alone though, I can already tell you that her music endeavor won’t be much of a big production seeing how cheap and home photo shopped looking the cover art is. But I digress, others have become huge stars just by singing on youtube. Lets face it though neither her nor Maria have amazing singing voices. Still, If it’s any consolation. her and Maria sound a heck of a lot better than Lita does. Overall all I give Mickie 2 outta 5 for this.

Why are people talking about maria.This has nothing to so with her.Maria has been talking about her music for sometime now.We dont even know what marias hole song is like.She could sound worst then what mickie is we dont know.

Kind of reminds me of what Miley Cyrus would sound like in about 15 years. It’s not my cup of tea, but I’m sure it’s someone elses. Kudos to her, and I hope she does well from it, if it’s what she really wants to do.

I kind of get a ‘Redneck Woman’ by Gretchen Wilson vibe from this song. I think it’s pretty good. I like it better than Maria’s, because you can actually tell this is Mickie singing, whereas in Maria’s song, it sounds nothing like her.
I think she did good for her first single, I mean sure there are parts where it doesn’t go well. But i really like the song. Good luck Mickie on your Country Music career. :D
@divafan23 I agree the song does remind me of Gretchen Wilson. I wasn’t really crazy about the song, and still on the fence about Mickie’s voice because we don’t really get to hear it here, she’s kind of just yelling to the music. I’ll have to hear more before I can say I like it or not.
I like Mickie. Unfortunately, I don’t like this. The lyrics are so contrived. It’s like it was written by someone who wanted a crowd-pleaser… not an actual song. Her voice is not bad but those back up vocals are not there for a reason. And, something feels greatly unnatural about the way that accent is being used.
I’m willing to bet if people were told this was Snooki or a Tiger Woods mistress singing, they’d say the song sucks. But come to find out it’s Mickie James, all of a sudden it’s “good.”
I thinks its awful and I really wanted to like it, but everyone has different tastes. I wish her luck anyways.
