The music theme continues this week as not only did we get to hear Mickie’s debut single, a longer clip of Maria Kanellis’ first single ‘Fantasy’ also aired on radio. Earlier in the month, Maria sent us a 30 second snippet of the song which received some positive feedback from our readers, so here’s a little more!
I’m going to stand by my initial assessment, it sounds perfect for a Twilight Saga soundtrack with the same angsty guitar strings and dramatic drum beats echoing behind the vocals. Maria is in full-rock out mode as she ascends from the subtle verse into the thumping chorus, again not dissimilar from a track you’d expect on a Twilight movie soundtrack. If that’s the sound she’s going for, then I think she succeeded and it’s no secret she’s a fan of those books/movies.
On second [and third, and fourth] listen, I wouldn’t say it’s groundbreaking but it’s a decent effort. I think the transition into the chorus is pretty cool and I could definitely see it catching on with people finding themselves singing along.
The song is due to premiere in full next month followed by Maria’s debut EP, ‘Sevin Sins’ on April 13th.
Having heard a little more — what do you think?

Its still not my type of songs, but I think she can succeed. There’s a large market to this type of music now. I mean, If something like Kesha’s Tik Tok succeeds, there’s a high chance for Maria’s album to be well sold.
the song is pretty twilight-y. i really like it. once that cd comes out, i’m definitely going to get it.(:
I think it sounds pretty good! The chorus is catchy. The only problem is that I can’t hear her that much in the beginning. The background music is playing to loud. The producers should have lowered it before it got released but other than that I really like it. Not sure if I’ll get her album but I’ll buy the single if it’s available on iTunes! :)
Maria was singing a few lyrics of this on smackdown down after the bell a few months ago with ricky ortiz and she told him she was taking singing lessons
That sounds smexxii, but the hard part will be singing it good live…..that’s when I’ll really judge her. :)
better than wht i thought actually
Ditto on the live show sentiments TMF. If she can recreate that in front of an audience and have that ever needed stage presence (somehow I dont think at least that will be a problem) then we’ll know she’s made it.
But as for the song, it was really cool to hear that edgy intro, somehow I was expecting something more watered down, so I’m glad my Doubting Thomas ways were dispelled (haha). I wonder who the guitarist is and what he’s (or she, never rule that out) done. But overall, it’s not anything I haven’t heard before or something I’d rush to put on my iPod, but it didn’t want to make me turn it off right away either.
That guy sounds exactly like Bubba The Love Sponge… is it him? Ha
Yes, very Twilight-y, and teen angsty, but I prefer it to Mickie’s new song.
I have to give it a thumbs down. She doesn’t have much of a voice, and it’s generic as can be. Not something I would ever want to listen too, but I’m sure she’ll find an audience.
It’s Twilight-y, she’s not the best singer in the world, but it still sounds way better than Mickie James’.
I kind of like the song now since i heard a longer clip & it shows a little bit more of her voice, Not a fan of this type of music but i think she can do well.
Okay, you can actually tell it’s Maria in this one. The last preview clip, I didn’t think it sounded like her at all.
I love the deep voice Maria does sometimes. Like in that backstage segment she did with Maryse in 2008. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR8LyxkCzeU
I love the chorus to this song. I already have it stuck in my head. (As if I wasn’t going to by the CD even if I hated it)
i like it more then Mickie’s song, i think it could definitely appear on the soundtrack of the next twilight film
It’s ok but she is no Lizzy Hale (thanks for the hook up Diva Dirt!)
