Awesome Kong, one half of the Knockouts Tag Team Champions just posted the following tweet:

I’d like to thank Dixie Carter and all of the employees at TNA for wishing me the very best in my future endeavors.

We hope to have confirmation on this soon but it’s been no secret that relations between TNA and Kong have been tenuous since the incident with Bubba the Love Sponge in January. Last week, Kong filed a lawsuit against the radio shock jock.

EDIT: TNA’s Associate Director of Public Relations responding in an email to Diva Dirt, denied comment on Kong’s release. We are still working on an update.

  1. Not really surprised TNA is becoming just like WWE it should be renamed The WWE Retirement home show.

  2. What the shiiiz?! >=( . . . Oh well, it’s TNA’s loss.
Hope Kong continues to k&ck @ss wherever she goes now. >=)
But hang on, where does leave the TNA KO Tag Titles? Looks like they might drop the belts or something, I dunno. =-\

  3. Good job for the dumbass poser who called Kong in early morning, he did it so Bubba gets fired, but if backfired really bad…

Well there goes the tag team titles…

  4. knowing tna, i think they might copy wwe, why not have a 2 month tournament?!!!! :O
haha wwe hires a gladiator… tna hires one, wwe hires yoshi tna hires hamada. the ony difference was the gender. i hope awesome kong goes to wwe going to smackdown, she can be dominate and i think wwe wont make her lose against like bellas, as if they can beat her :p

  5. the TNA knockouts are dropping like flys. Whats going to happen to the tag titles, will TNA drop them or will they give them to the beautiful people. Will they set up a tournment to crown new champions

well it’s not TNA’s fault she’s going, it was her decision and honestly, it all started with her backstage fight with Bubba. Kong shouldn’t have hit him, they’re a lot of assholes in this world but what can you do, just let them live their pathetic lives

  6. If she has been released, then it’s TNA’s loss. She clearly doesn’t wanna be in this Hogan-run freakshow anymore. Knowing what he’s been doing to TNA of late she’s probably saving herself the embarrassment.

Thanks a lot Dixie Carter. You build a great women’s division, only to sign the two biggest egos in wrestling (Hogan and Bischoff) who drastically change the product. She f-ing LET him invite all those douches he calls friends onto the roster instead of working with the talent TNA has. Carter is a sad, weak coward who can’t stand up to Hogan. He’s the one who got that complete waste of oxygen Bubba the Love Sponge into TNA (though he might gone now).

She might as well sign TNA over to him.

If Kong has gone, then I say thank you to her for over two years of awesomeness and entertaining matches.

  7. I’m happy for Kong. We know that she wasn’t very happy lately and she even asked for her release. No one should be forced to stay at a job were they aren’t happy anymore.

But I’m sure we’ll still see Kong in other promotions.

Btw, wikipedia say that she was released today, but that affirmation comes from the twit Melanie mentioned.

  8. im so sure wwe would to get to awesome kong

  9. Like its been said it’s TNA’s loss and to be honest I was at the point where I wanted to see her go, because of the unhappiness she mentioned towards the end of it all. It’s not like Kong is going to be one of those failed girls who fade into oblivion i.e. Joy Giovanni.

I expect ANOTHER tournament now to work out Hamada’s new partner. But good luck to Kong, I’m sensing she’s more likely to do Shimmer and Japan, though WWE would be a major move, but that’s a dream world to be honest.

  10. Probably the best for both herself and TNA.

I’m curious where she is going to end up. WWE is a possibility, they were already interested in her in the past. For Wrestlicious she would also be perfect. And even Japan could be possible, the Joshi companies have lots of talent, but they lack big starpower right now. So i’m sure she will end up fine, no matter where she goes.

  11. WWE would pull a real shocker if they signed Kong. If they break tradition with their Diva hiring policy, she could potentially be a great asset to the division.

And like Dixie said, if wrestlers aren’t with her 100% they have the choice to leave TNA. I’m glad Kong can now spread her wings.

  12. I’m really torn over this news. I love and respect Awesome Kong, however I disagree with the way she handled the situation with Bubba. I was even more disappointed when she pulled out of the UK tour, yes she may have been upset but she took it out on the wrong people, this being the fans. I’m sure WWE will step in and offer her a contract, however I am not style Awesome Kong’s style fits into WWE. I wish her all the best, and hopefully she returns to TNA sometime down the line.

  13. You guys forget that in the past there were ladies in the WWE with a physical appearence and weight similar to Kong. Ex: Bertha.

Even Nattie isn’t the model type. So it wouldn’t be a shock to see Kong there. Actually, it would be a wise move. Kong is very important to a lot of the TNA fans and she’s a good wrestler. If they hired her, they would get the attention of some of the TNA fanbase and they would also loose some of their reputation of caring more about looks than talent.

  14. RIP Knockouts division..

  15. i don’t think WWE will offer kong a contract. I remember when angelina was released and EVERYONE was saying ” WWE will definitely offer her a contract ” and then month after month passed and still no contract offer. I see this as the same situation

as for the natayla no model look comment, I think Natayla was only hired because her last name is Neidhart and her family was a big part of WWE. I mean natayla is a great wrestler and all but if her father wasn’t Jimmy the anvil neidhart and her uncle wasn’t bret hart, I doubt WWE would’ve hired her. I mean they fired taylor wilde and angelina love who have more the model look than natayla. Just my thoughts

i hope everything works out for kong though

  16. Kong has seemed to be in an unhappy place as of late. I think this is best for her.

  17. The only way I think Kong would be offered a WWE contract would be because we’re about to be in the midst of a new Monday night war and that would be a jab at TNA. However, WWE has their favorites and I don’t see her taking Michelle, Maryse, Mickie or Melina’s spots. I would hate to see what kind of comedy shtick she would ultimately be stuck with.

  18. RKOyou: Well, you got a point in there. I love Nattie and I think dad she deserves to be in WWE, because unlike LVE she is really talented. But yeah, it would have been very hard for her if she wasn’t from the Hart family.

  19. I could see Kong as Maryse’s bodyguard, perhaps. They’re building Maryse as the kind of Diva who doesn’t want to get her hands dirty (look at the tag match with Gail against McCool and Layla at the EC PPV recently!). Maryse could basically get away with anything, as with a click of a finger she could have Kong come out and wipe the floor with some Divas.

    Just imaginary booking ;)

  20. Rofl, Kong would go insane if she was the bodyguard of someone who doesn’t have 5% of her ability.

Now that i think about it, if they hired Kong, they would need a better female roster to make it credible when Kong lost.

  21. She wanted out of there in the first place so good for her. I don’t see why her look would stop WWE from hiring her. It’s not like they never hired women that dont have that standard “diva look” before. Jillian, Chyna, Jazz, Jaqueline, Beth, Cherry, Jacqueline, Serena, Nat. Just to name a few, All beautiful in their own way but didnt exactly fit the diva mold. Most of them prosper as divas. Just because they have a lot of model in their roster doesnt mean they would cancel out girls that doesnt have that look. Kong made a name for herself and already the most recognizable woman (not counting) in their roster. That alone should get her a meeting with John Laurinaitis.

  22. This TNA / AWESOME KONG thing is really gettin out of hand.

  23. I think if WWE wants to make an impact, they should signed Awesome Kong, and have her debut next Monday, when TNA goes live on Mondays against WWE, now that would get people talking

however, i dont see wwe signed her, but she was in talks with WWE, before she signed with TNA since they offered her a contract first, ithink all us Women Wrestling Fans need to email WWE and tell them to sign her or at least giver her a try out

  24. “Now that i think about it, if they hired Kong, they would need a better female roster to make it credible when Kong lost.”

If WWE hires Kong it wouldnt be to job, because that would make -both- women look silly. So she would become a big monster heel. And to make it credible, she would probably squash most divas, except a few select favorites (Mickie James and Melina). Mickie James already did something similair in WEW. And in TNA we’ve seen Taylor and Gail do it. So it’s possible to do it in a credible way.

  25. “I could see Kong as Maryse’s bodyguard, perhaps. They’re building Maryse as the kind of Diva who doesn’t want to get her hands dirty (look at the tag match with Gail against McCool and Layla at the EC PPV recently!). Maryse could basically get away with anything, as with a click of a finger she could have Kong come out and wipe the floor with some Divas.”

That’s exactly what I was thinking, and more than a few people brought up this exact idea on message boards when it came out that Kong had asked for her release.

  26. If this is true then it really is a big loss from the knockouts division.
I’ve become so uninterested in knockouts recently, and the fact that awesome kong wont be there to put on great matches like she usally does anymore, doesn’t help much.

  27. bur again wwe was interested in her in 2007 and then again in 2008, so there is a small and i mean very small chance she will get signed

  28. She left…..TNA has been on a Crap down heel since Hulk took over he is cursed now there moving to mondays give me a break ITS TO SOON, They are going to crumble in wwe shadow and get axed from spike i can forsee the future.

  29. Now reports are stating that Awesome Kong has not been granted her relaese, nor has she left TNA Wrestling. Interesting 48 hours ahead of us. (Maybe Awesome Kong jumped the gun, and she will be appearing on the March 8th live Impact to drop the Knockout’s Tag Team Championship).

  30. whether she’s still there or not, for her to announce that on twitter it goes to show just how unhappy she really is.

i almost feel like saying “screw you tna! i’ll never watch you again!” but i’m reminded by how annoying i find it when i see others say the same thing.

  31. can anyone clear up to me the whole drama thing with Kong and Bubba? Thanks.

  32. i know everyone is upset right now but who knows, maybe in time TNA will fix up. You will not believe how many times I felt like pulling my hair out when it came to the WWE divas( santino winning miss wrestlemania, playboy pushes, maryse winning the divas title again) but things get better in time. TNA may not be perfect but i’m not going to stop watching just because it’s exactly the way it use to be

maybe kong leaving will open doors for the knockouts that never got a chance or spotlight like daffney, madison rayne, sarita, and taylor wilde. I would love for these girls to break out finally and become household TNA names(except daffney who obviously started in WCW)

  33. *because it’s NOT exactly the way it use to be

  34. Everyone is saying the same thing. If WWE signs Awesome Kong. Well, who knows whether or not Kia wants to even sign with them? She’s never hinted that she wanted to be a WWE Diva.

  35. RKOyou – I’m with you. I enjoyed watching Awesome Kong. However, the character was so dominant that it out-shined all of the other Knockouts. I think that with Kong gone, we’ll finally see Knockouts, such as Daffney receive the push that they rightfully deserve.

  36. oh wow now kong. Well Im not as surprised. But you would think that they would fire Bubba , watever Kong dosent need TNA ne ways. She is known world wide

  37. Big loss for TNA. Kong will bounce back though. Between the indys and possibly a return to Japan, she should have no problem finding work. I would love to see her in WWE though, if only to work a program with Beth Phoenix at least once.

  38. I know i’m going to get it for this comment, but from what I always have heard, some guys just cant handle it when women perform better than they do and then they become the ‘divas’ and get the girls fired…typical…just male wrestlers showing their ‘feminine’ side…LOL wink

  39. Is WWE interested in Kong? I think if they really tired they could make her a baby ass babyface and have her fued with McCool or Beth.

But, is Kong really PG tv?

  40. this is sad. not shocking though. hulk and eric have really screwed up the KO’s division. its so sad to see. Kong would do fine in WWE. back in the mid 90′s they had Bertha Faye, Bull Nakano, Aja Kong, more recently they had Jazz and Beth. It would be nice to see Kong and Alissa go to do something together, WWE perhaps. Kong vs. Gail round 2? Alissa vs. Mickie? there could be some fun matches. Dixie should really step up and put the KO’s back where they belong and thrived, in the spotlight.

  41. If this is true, it’s sad news. I love watching Kong. She is one of those women who really know how to do it in the ring. I cannot say that I am 100% behind her on the whole Bubba situation but if the rumors about her not being paid enough is true, then I am backing her up there (not that my support matters, of course.)

As for TNA, the only thing not disappointing since this whole Hogan era came to play is Daffney getting some screen time. Apart from that, it’s been down hill. They were doing so much better before that man came in. Now, instead of giving us an alternative to the WWE, they are giving us a poor substitute.

I will, however, agree with RKOyou, I think that this may be a chance for the other Knockouts to shine. And by shine, I mean at least they will be given 2minute matches.

Anyway, I hope they start using Sarita, Daffney and Hamada again. These women are so talented and they can show it if only TNA gives them at least HALF of the backing WWE gives the all holy Michelle McCool.

Yes. I said something negative about McCool, again. And yet, there is nothing entirely consequential that can be done about it. ;)

  42. I won’t even get into the whole Hogan/Bishcoff/current state of TNA stuff. About the Bubba stuff, no you’re not supposed to hit someone, but given the way that people flame each other on the internet just because they disagree, it’s no wonder that if someone said something that actually MEANT something it could come to blows, especially if it’s about a tragedy (given she was already experiencing her own). Smh.

Reading Kong’s tweets, there were other things that was going on during that time and that whole UK stuff. She was dealing with the funeral of her mentor and as she said, they wouldn’t even give her five minutes to decide. The death of a loved one takes precedent over a career. Kong had an impressive indy career around the world so I think it’s good she moves on from TNA if they’re not going to appreciate her (or any other Knockouts). Her and Cheerleader Melissa are well known and are great wrestlers. They’ll do fine.

  43. I’ll say it again: Kong is too good for WWE, at least at their current standing in regards to Divas.

And I agree that at the very least it’s good that they’ve been doing stuff w/Daffney recently. There are so many great Knockouts (they’re ALL great in their special ways) that it’d be SO ridiculous to waste them. Just make the doggone separate show for Knockouts and/or X-Division already!

  44. The WWE should sign Kong immediately.
Have her squash every diva willing to take a powerbomb… and then let Beth Phoenix slam her at Wrestlemania. (That would get Beth over as a face, like they’ve been trying to do.)

Kong wanted out for a long time.. so a release is long overdue. My only problem is that she kind of screwed Hamada. Pardon the bad pun, but the Knockouts division is not so awesome anymore. Alissa Flash, Kong and Hamada were my favorites. At least Bischoff likes Daffney.
