Trish Stratus Tops WWE.com’s ‘Most Impactful Women’ List

In honour of Women’s History Month, WWE.com has unveiled the 25 Divas they believe to be the ‘Most Impactful Women’ in WWE history and perhaps of little surprise, a certain 7-time Women’s Champion tops the list. Trish Stratus beats competition such as The Fabulous Moolah, Sable and Lita to take the crown.

The list is as follows:

1) Trish Stratus
2) The Fabulous Moolah
3) Chyna
4) Sensational Sherri
5) Stephanie McMahon
6) Sable
7) Mickie James
8 ) Lita
9) Sunny
10) Michelle McCool
11) Wendi Richter
12) Mae Young
13) Alundra Blayze
14) Melina
15) Miss Elizabeth
16) Luna Vachon
17) Beth Phoenix
18) Stacy Keibler
19) Molly Holly
20) Vickie Guerrero
21) Jacqueline
22) Kelly Kelly
23) Ivory
24) Bull Nakano
25) Torrie Wilson

Read all the descriptions by clicking here.

Obviously a list of this nature will be subject to opinion. Personally, I wonder if Stacy Keibler was really more impactful than a Molly Holly or Torrie Wilson who were around at the same time as her. Of the several current girls on the list, I’m a little surprised that Michelle McCool is so high in comparison to Melina or Beth Phoenix. I know Lita’s avid fans may not be pleased with her being listed one behind Mickie James. I was [pleasantly] taken aback at Chyna placing so high, I guess WWE is thawing when it comes to her? Good for her!

Also, WWE has obviously left off the current TNA Knockouts Champion, Tara aka Victoria. That move is more strategic in not promoting TNA rather than a personal slight towards Tara, I’d assume. It is the nature of the business unfortunately and I’m see once Tara’s TNA career ends, whenever that may be, WWE will once again embrace her down the line.

As for the #1 spot, it’s become customary for Trish to take the lead and while I can’t argue with her place in history, I’d like to see things mixed up one of these days. Perhaps Moolah as #1.

I like the list, i think all the major women where in in some form, good job wwe, Lita and sable could have been in the top 5 but o well at least they made the top 10

However, the thing that i am happiest about is that Sable beat Sunny haha know i wonder what sunny will have to say about this, She wont be happy for sure. :)

The fact that Kelly made that list and got ranked above Ivory, Torrie, and even Bull Nakano makes this list a fail.

^ It’s WWE not like PWI or something like that.. what did you expect? =/

When you read the descriptions, you kind of agree with some of the rankings but w/e.. like these list are really that big of a deal. We’ll forget all about it in a few days lol

Not only Kelly managed to be in the list but she’s also leading the poll as the most impactfull diva. That’s living proof that most human beings are indeed stupid.

She stripped in ECW, how impactfull.

I would swap Jacqueline and Ivory (with Ivory ahead). Beyond that, with the exception of the wtf inclusion of kelly kelly, the list is pretty spot on.

I like the effort of this list and I agree with a lot of the spots. Personally, I wouldn’t have minded if Lita and Torrie Wilson had been placed a little higher, but I think all the women included were deserving. I was also surprised at Chyna being placed so highly. I’m so used to them giving her the cold shoulder I wasn’t even considering her making the list, much less coming in at #3. As for Kelly, she’s popular as hell and she’s come a very long way both as a wrestler and a character. She’s made a nice little niche for herself in Divas history in under four years. I don’t find coming in at #22 that much of a stretch.

They weren’t going to add Victoria since she’s in TNA. Kelly shouldn’t have been on that list. Michelle shouldn’t have been that high nor Stacy (Even though she’s one of my favorite divas). Lita should have been a bit higher and Torrie should have been in the top 20 at least. I was really shocked when i clicked the next button to see the list and come across and see Torrie as 25 and Kelly as 22. Instead of Kelly, Candice would have been a better choice.

Kelly Kelly and Torrie Wilson should not be on this list at all. Mickie James deserves to be ahead of Lita, her run in the company has been longer, she has had more title reigns and she has spent less time on the shelf or as a valet. Her feud with Trish was AMAZING. Much better than Lita’s IMO.

I was a bit surprised that Candice Michelle didn’t make the list. Being the first Diva Search contest to win the Women’s Championship was pretty impactful.

Who here thinks Maria would have made the list of she hadn’t been released (which i have finally come to terms with), Trish was always going to be number 1 on this list

Usually top lists (in any field) are, at best, questionable; if nothing else, because they are very hard to make. Most of the time though, they are simply downright awful, ridiculously biased, if not laughable. We can safely put this one in one of the latter categories (for the most blatent cases, see the side to side comparaison between #7 and #8, #10 and #11, #22 and #23, not to speak of putting Miss Elizabeth randomly at #15. So much for being a model of class and being featured in one of the greatest Wrestlemania moments ever.)

  • MickieFan226
    March 8, 2010 at 11:26 pm

I was shocked to see that Maryse (WWE’s favorite Diva) didn’t make the list. Gail Kim should have been on the last and as it0mmy said, I thought Candice would have been better fit on the list than Kelly! What has she done?

I’m glad Mickie was ranked at #7! She deserves it in my opinion.
Out of all the current WWE Divas, Mickie is the highest! :)

  • MickieFan226
    March 8, 2010 at 11:29 pm

Gail Kim should have been on the list*
Sorry I said last before! :P

  • Mikas
    March 8, 2010 at 11:31 pm

Miss Elizabeth should’ve been much higher. She wasn’t a wrestler, but she was THE woman for many years in the late 80s, early 90s.

And people forget that this list isn’t about who was the best wrestler, or the hardest worker, or who deserves it the most. It’s just who had the most impact. Bull Nakano, Luna Vachon and Alundra Blayze were great wrestlers, but they were around when the female wrestlers had no promos, no backstage segments and no storylines, it was just random matchups. So it makes sense that people like Kelly had a much bigger impact than they.

Gail was in WWE for 14 months of which she was sidelined 5 months due to injury. Then she was released. So she didnt really make an impact in her first WWE run.

I guess the leist is okay but i have some thoiughts on it. I thought Lita should;ve been top 5. I thought Torrie, Jazz, and ivory should’ve been at least top 15. Melian top and 10. I really can’t believe Candice Michelle didn’t make the list at all. She was the first DS woman to win a championship so I thought that would be considered impactful.
And on a side note Mikas I took your advice and watched a few Portia Perez matches and I have to say I really like her. I like that Daizee Haze woman as well.

Mickie #7?Ha!hat’s funny…..NONE of the current Divas should even break the top ten list.Tor-Tor should’ve been a bit higher,as well as Beth.Michelle should be like 24 or something.Kelly ranking is sad,and Candice so had that spot plastered with her name on it.Melina’s place,I think,is spot on.Basically, the list kinda sucks, but it has some great spots on there.

I personally think that from 15 and down all of the women from the Golden Era should’ve been listed.I liked the fact that they sort of broke kayfabe and talked about things such as the independants, and especially that thing about Bret sayng Melina
was the best in some ways :D

I REEEEEALLY loced that Chyna was listed, and I think she deserves her spot in the top three.

this is shit wwe playing favourites and not being realistic as usual….lita as no.8 is a joke i belive this woman made a bigger change than trish
and mccool…they made her a legend while she doesnt got it all
kelly and stacy above torrie…as a torrie fan i feel bitter when i remember she never won the title and now when i saw this list…and the videos i feel even worse….this woman was why many ppl watched SD! for years and crowd reacted very well with her
much more than many of higher ranked divas on the list…all in all i hate wwe more and more everyday and where the hell is victoria????

    i think its pretty good,
now this isnt just based on wrestling,
its also based on how popular the wrestlers are,
i dont know why ppl make a big deal about it, its a list.
Even tho Victoria is with Tna, i think she made a huge impact in the division
and should have been included, but i dont blame em. Yay to kelly kelly.
i have a feeling they have faith in her to be the top babyface on raw :]

Kelly on “The Top 25 Most Impactful Women” list is a total head scratcher. What has she done in the 4 years that shes been in the WWE that is so “impactful”? LOL. Well other than that obvious goof the lists is quite respectable. The top five is almost perfect, only I’d put Sable ahead of Steph and switch Mickie with Lita. But thats just me. The rest of the list is really interchangeable.

  • bonepile
    March 9, 2010 at 12:58 am

Gail Kim on that list … hardly … Gail Kim was given the belt her first night of her first run, and has done nothing to earn herself this honor on her second run with the WWE to date.

I don’t know what wwe was smoking when they put Kelly on this list. She is a joke to women’s wrestling. At first I thought Moolah would be #1 and Trish would be second. Thats how I would’ve done it. Lita should’ve been a little bit higher and Bull Nakano should be at least in the top ten.

  • Jamal
    March 9, 2010 at 1:14 am

This list is bogus. Before Bull Nakano, the WWE had never seen a female monster heel before. I’d put that above many of the women ranked higher than her.

  • mojodoom
    March 9, 2010 at 1:23 am

Bull Nakano is a monster heel and arguably the best woman to ever step in the WWE/F ring. I dare say the most effective heel in the history of the womens division…but she was only in the WWF for about a year and only wrestled a few televised matches to leave a lasting impact to a regular fan. I would agree though that she should be higher on that list than McCool, Mae, Melina and Beth. Also Jackie and Alundra should be much closer to the top ten than where they are on that list.

  • rodneyclint
    March 9, 2010 at 1:57 am

I don’t agree with Kelly and McCool being placed so high and Torrie, Molly, and Lita not being placed higher, but other than that the list is pretty good. At least they got the #1 spot right lol Trish is/was the most impactful Diva ever and I’m glad no one is really arguing that point.

    March 9, 2010 at 4:57 am

Ivory and Molly Holly should be in the top ten and Stephanie shouldn’t be on the list at all.

Mae Young at #12 over 13 other women. LOL!!!

  • ashleyjeanCT
    March 9, 2010 at 4:58 am

So, this list is pretty eclectic to say the least. First off, Michelle McCool is my favorite diva but Beth deserves to be higher on this list. Secondly, Lita. C’mon. Amy Dumas is one of the most innovative and respected females that has ever been on the circuit. Granted Trish has probably gained the most followers and Lita ruined her reputation with the Edge storyline in the last years, BUT Lita is just like…words cannot trukly describe what she brought to the women’s division.

  • SereneAndTranquil
    March 9, 2010 at 5:07 am

I love Miss Elizabeth and I’m so happy to see her on here. The list was good. But they should’ve removed Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler, Vickie Guerrero, Kelly Kelly, and Michelle McCool. Most of them minus Vickie Guerrero are good but they didn’t make enough impact to be on the list.

  • XBlade999
    March 9, 2010 at 5:57 am

I do agree with Trish being #1 and Moolah being #2. I do think Lita should have been higher than 8, she and Trish still has the greatest women’s feud ever to date. Torrie should have switched places with Stacy. Torrie did alot more for the company than Stacy did. Kelly Kelly should have been off of this list. She hasnt did much yet as a wrestler or a performer. I do think Molly and Jacqueline should have been higher on the list.

I also think that Mae Young and especially Stephanie McMahon were ranked to high. Don’t get me wrong, those two did alot for the women’s division, but I dont think they made as much of an impact as some of the other divas. I think Sunny could have dropped a couple spots two, she shouldnt be in the Top 10.

  • GK1
    March 9, 2010 at 7:40 am

Well Gail Kim won the title on her DEBUT!
    THAT is impactful!
At least Gail held a title and her feuds with Trish and Molly Holly were great, she should be top 20, if not 15. And even then her talent vs the top 25, she’s definately top 3 or 5..

  • ebmich
    March 9, 2010 at 7:55 am

If this list is based off impact, then it wouldn’t be 25. Maybe 10.. And that is really pushing it. The business is based around fan support. I really don’t see how even the most “over” Diva right will be considered memorable. I mean what good as Mickie done since Trish left? Her fans still want her to go back to a gimmick that was 4 years ago.

IN THE WWE POLL, LITA IS LEADING WITH 51.31 %, NEXT IS CHYNA WITH 13.96 %, THEN TRISH WITH 8.11%, NEXT IS KELLY KELLY (DUMB FANS. SORRY) WITH 7.70 %. OTHERS HAVE 3 % AND LESS.

“It’s hard to believe that Lita was once one of the most popular competitors in WWE.”
-IMO, this statement somehow discriminates Lita. They should have just written, “Lita was arguably one of the most popular competitors in WWE.”

If I were to rank the divas the set foot in WWE. Well it should have been like this.

    1. The Fabulous Moolah (The true pioneer of women’s wrestling)
    2. Trish Stratus (Although I’m an AVID LITA FAN, let’s admit it that Trish had the fairytale princess run in WWE, given the most awards, and no. of championship. So it’s hard to argue her being on top in this list)
    3. Lita (Lita was really the one who brought back the high wrestling standards of women’s wrestling when it was becoming stale. So I guess, even though she was treated the villain and had the worst exit a diva could have, she should be placed somewhere along the top 5.)
    4. Sensational Sherri (Built the image of a strong diva that can outwit men)
    5. Miss Elizabeth (Best valet)
    6. Chyna (Arguably, the toughest wrestler WWE has built.)
    7. Sable (Much like Trish, but no that successful in terms of championship)
    8. Mae Young (Longevity sake)
    9. Mickie James (most popular and most successful diva of the present era and became part of the golden era)
    10. Sunny (First Diva)
    11. Wendi Richter
    12. Alundra Blayze
    13. Melina (Best innovator)
    14. Bull Nakano (Monster Heel and Best wrestler)
    15. Victoria (Part of the golden era and the a really vicious diva)
    16. Molly Holly (Most technical)
    17. Luna Vachon
    18. Jazz (Great heel)
    19. Ivory (Arguably, a great wrestler although she wasnt much popular)
    20. Jacqueline (Won the cruiserweight and hardcore?)
    21. Michelle Mccool (The potential of WWE now although she lacks the charisma)
    22. Torrie Wilson (Hottest WWE diva)
    23. Stacey Keibler (Part of the Golden Era and a competitor in the babe of the year)
    24. Beth Phoenix (Chyna of the New Era)
    25. Candice Michelle (Was the hope of WWE during its decline and first diva search champion)

As for gail kim, i believe that she may really be a technical and agile wrestler, but her run in WWE now is kind of boring. and winning a championship during her debut was not much impactful.

As for maria and lilian garcia, i do believe that they might be included here, but there are only 25 spots.

  • delosts
    March 9, 2010 at 8:29 am

So glad Jacqueline, Molly and Chyna made the list. Chyna was #3!!! Honestly i think that would be a toss up between her and Lita. Kelly Kelly doesnt make sense, pretty decent list otherwise.

I haven’t read them all as I’m running late for college so was simply looking for Lita ….. I gave hers a read and apparently she retired in 2007?
I swear it was the SS PPV in 2006 ….. lol. Obviously, someone hasn’t done their homework. I think the top 5 should have been Moolah, Trish Stratus, Lita, Chyna & then Stephanie McMahon.

This is a very good opinion from the forum in wwe universe

“First of all, I think there is a lot of misconception happening. I don’t totally disagree with this list, but I think this list is made in typical, current WWE fashion, “Let’s cram as many Divas into this as possible.” I think the mere fact that there are 25 impactful women is an overstatement. I don’t want to detract from any one woman’s accomplishments or in-ring abilities, but I must say, I will take issue before I post what I think.

Michelle McCool and Kelly Kelly are hardly revolutionary or impactful to women’s wrestling. Kelly Kelly has done nothing worth noting and McCool is sloppy and only really has the claim of being the first woman to hold the Diva’s and Women’s Championship, which on paper looks good. But here’s the thing, the Diva’s Championship was a title created for the lesser experience group, which is where McCool belongs, as it should be. Diva Search contestants, unless they’re really good in the ring, should be regulated to participating for the championship that was designed for them, if they must have positions in the WWE at all.

I’ve also been reading a lot that Gail Kim should be included in the list. What exactly has she done other than win the Women’s Championship in her initial WWE debut? Her impact is hardly relevant as far as it goes to enhancing the Women’s Division. And “Where is Natalya on this list?” The fact is, Natalya hasn’t done anything noteworthy of impact either. It would be absurd to throw her on this list for the simple fact that her last name is Neidhart. I am a huge fan of Natalya, but currently, she doesn’t belong on this list – she definitely will in the future, but right now, absolutely not.

I would argue that women like Jazz and Victoria, should in fact be on this list, if it absolutely has to be comprised of 25 women. But the fact is, I don’t think there have been 25 impactful women. I think there have been several milestone women and that is what this list should really be about, they are:

    1. The Fabulous Moolah – Moolah, inspired by Mildred Burke, opened the doors for the women of today. She pioneered women’s wrestling when it wasn’t fashionable to do so and she succeeded in a male dominated industry before, during, and after the women’s suffrage movement.

    2. Trish Stratus – Trish deserves a spot near the top of the list, not because of her “record setting” number of championships or the other titles and accolades. Trish deserves her spot because she transitioned from valet to wrestler before our very eyes. This transformation allowed Trish to connect with global audiences and inspire everyone, from indy wrestlers to little girls with big dreams. Trish Stratus redefined women’s roles in wrestling, evident through her match history (initially lingerie pillow fights and strap matches to ultimately hardcore matches). Trish’s success was based on these connections to the audiences and through the homage she paid to her predecessors. Trish knew she didn’t invent women’s wrestling and she knew she didn’t revolutionize it alone, but she spearheaded it and was a key player in legitimizing women’s wrestling in a modern “puppy loving” era – she made people care about it.

    3. Lita – Her luchadore style and unique offense catapulted Lita to the top of the division upon her arrival. Fans connected instantly with Lita’s personality and defying persona. She was unique and refreshing, something we had not really witnessed before. She was responsible for depicting that women could perform top-rope manuevers and not be regulated to hair pulling, ddts, or snapmares and she showed that women other than Chyna could fend for themselves against the men.

    4. Chyna – “The Ninth Wonder of the World” was revolutionary in respect to women competing on an even playing field as men. Capturing two Intercontinental Championships, being the first woman to participate in the Royal Rumble, and being the first woman to become the WWE Championship’s number one contender, Chyna was a woman ahead of her time and perhaps an unexpected and potentially unwelcomed competitor because of it. She opened the doors for female-male competition, unfortunately, the only women I think are capable of such competition are Beth Phoenix and Natalya Neidhart, and their arrival came nearly a decade later.

    5. Sable – Responsible for the creation of “Divas,” Sable can be attributed with adding a little bit of beauty to the world of wrestling and being a crossover star connecting professional wrestling to the mainstream world, via Playboy.

    6. Stephanie McMahon – Stephanie’s impact will extend only as far as she lets it. She’s been potrayed as a wrestler and as a woman in positions of power. Sadly, Stephanie ranks where she does because she enables women to be degraded and actual female wrestlers to job to Diva Search alumni. Her lack of attention and emphasis on women’s wrestling could arguably single-handedly jeopardize what all the other women have worked for, but the fact that she is a significant corporate figure in WWE speaks volumes to the possibilities of where women could go.

    7. Wendi Richter – Wendi came into the wrestling world intent on ending Moolah’s stronghold on a division. She can not only be attributed with ending Moolah’s extensive championship reign, but she can also be attributed, through her alliance with Cyndi Lauper, to linking professional wrestling to the world of pop culture. This “rock and wrestling” connection can arguably be attributed to making professional wrestling an integral part of pop culture with Wendi being one of the most recognizable associations of the time.

    8. Lillian Garcia – Lillian took what was traditionally a man’s job and made it workable for women, announcing. She also proved that women didn’t have to grapple or simply carry signs to become successful or recognizable to the fans. What Lillian did was provide another potential position for women to occupy within the world of professional wrestling (much like Jacqueline did by flirting with the idea of becomming a WWE referee).

    9. Mae Young – Along similar lines as The Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young can be attributed with helping pioneer the movement for women in professional wrestling. Her milestone mark is that she is the only professional wrestler to appear in nine decades – this shows that the longevity of a female wrestler may equal and exceed that of their male counterparts.

    10. “Sensational” Sherri Martel – She was a successful valet and in-ring competitor and is regarded highly by those who followed in her path. Sherri is impactful because of her lasting impression and influence on current women’s wrestlers.

I cut the list down to 10 and even this is generous, in my opinion. I know, I have left out women like Miss Elizabeth, Alundra Blayze, Bull Nakano, Bertha Faye, Molly Holly, Victoria, Jazz, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler, Mickie James, Beth Phoenix, Sunny, Luna Vachon, Melina, Jacqueline, Ivory, Natalya Neidhart, Jillian Hall, Gail Kim and so many others. As I mentioned before, I am not trying to detract from their accomplishments or their in-ring abilities. In their own ways they each mean a lot to the business and I am not taking that away from them. But in terms of impact, the women I have listed, in my opinion are the ones who have shaped and modified stereotypes on women and professional wrestling.

If this were a list the ranked women technically (based on their in-ring skills), it would be different. If this were a list that ranked women by popularity, it would be different. If the list ranked women by championship reigns, championship reign lengths, etc., it would be different, but the list is based on impact and these women have had the greatest.

Some parts of the list make me laugh really hard. However I’m pleased to see how they’re being good to Chyna. I don’t know why Mickie is so high in this list, even above Lita. Sure she had more titles than her, but titles are not everything and Mickie’s storylines has a diva were not a big deal (with the exception of being obsessed with Trish and Piggie crap). I’m not going to put down any divas, but there’s just one that I can’t keep my mouth shut…Kelly Kelly.

Why the hell is she in this list? She was never a champion, a great part of her initial career was stripping and her storylines were most of the times dropped. Even Maria (who sucks as a wrestler) is more deserving to be there. At least she actually won a Diva of the Year title xD.

I think Lita should’ve been placed higher, maybe at no 5. Apparently, she retired in 2007, hmm, you’d think with the Women’s title history a click of a button away on WWE.com, the person who wrote that article would give it a look, just to check their facts as Lita retired at Survivor Series 2006.
Same thing goes for Chyna, who held the IC title three times, not two.
I’m glad Mickie James came in higher than Michelle McCool.
Trish Stratus was always going rank the highest, she was WWE’s no1 golden girl and most probably always will be.

As Soon as I heard about this list I knew there was some kind of Screw up on it…also controversy. Is very ignorant that WWE didn’t even bother to put Victoria in this list due to the fact that she is with the “competition”. Also is very shoking the Ranking of Lita and and of the Models. I am also annoy with Kelly being in the list because I don’t think someone who was a exibitionist and started developing as a wrestler recently should be on it. Lilian Garcia should have been somewhere in the list and some one who in my opinion deserves to be in this list is Candice Michelle, because she really work hard to get a name in the bussiness and she became a top diva and received awards on 2007 ect. I just don’t understand the point that WWE is trying to prove.
I think this site should come with a list with more accuracy and consideration.
