April 14th marks the 5 year anniversary of Melina‘s WWE debut, and we here at Diva Dirt want to commemorate that with an audio special akin to what we recently did for Maria, but this time we’ll be looking at Melina’s career through your eyes. What are your favorite Melina moments? They can extend back to her days before the WWE or be as recent as last year. In the comments below, share your favorite moments of Melina’s career (thus far) and we’ll be sure to include them in our tribute.
Why are we doing this for Melina, as opposed to any other Diva? Well, this is a special personal project for me, as I have known Melina personally for almost 8 years now. I used to run her official website and have known her from her early indy days, so I know fully well that this career milestone is a big deal for her. Thus, I would love to honor her with some special fan appreciation. It’s an “anniversary gift”, if you will. Idk i feel like she fits a Heel better. So my Highlight is her whole heel career. Also her match at one night stand and her match at night of champions.
mickie vs melina in a falls count anywhere match, the backstage bit was so funny,
and the Halloween battle royal on raw. when she gave Mickie a running face buster on the apron eliminating them both (i think it was the one when Victoria was dressed as a sumo)
I really can’t believe it’s been 5 yrs already. One moment I actually liked from Melina was her first night on Smackdown. Her entrance alone made her stand out from the other women and she was just great on the mic. Another moment i liked was the first time she did the Primal Scream. I have never seen that moved performed by anyone before so i thought it was pretty cool. As for matches I really think her best one was the I quit match with Beth. That was one of if not the best women’s matches put on by the divas. I liked her match with Mickie James at Backlash. Another match I liked of her was her Bra and Panties match with Torrie at the Bash. For a B &P match it was pretty physical and very entertaining. I almost forgot it was a B & P match cause it was so much wrestling done instead of just pulling off clothes. It was also big because Torrie lost and Torrie never really lost those types of matches.
melina is honeslty better at face because when she was a heel she was most known as a bitch and a slut. But now she is known as one of the bestest wwe diva’s to step into the ring. i hope before melina leaves the WWE that she gets as much reigns as champion to be tied with Trish and Mickie. to be with trish she needs 4 more reigns as womens champion and 2 more to be up to mickie. and i hope she achieves that goal.
Melina is one of my favourite divas in the WWE past & present. I prefer Melina heel and my favourite moment in her career would be facing Trish at Survivor Series (?) when she got her first ever title shot. She may not have won the womens championship but they both worked really well together. From 2007 onwards she definately improved and became a top heel on Raw and she kept the division going. Her innovative moves never fail to suprise me again and again.
Damn I didn’t know she debuted on Lita’s birthday! She sure is the new Lita! :D
I really enjoy Melina. I met her the day after she lost the belt to McCool [I was also there live] and she was really nice and said she would win it back.
Well that didn’t happen but she did get the Diva’s title! As far as my favorite Melina moments or matches I think these come to mind:
Extreme Rules I Quit Match Beth Phoenix v Melina – Totally awesome match. Love the submissions by both ladies and they really should use them more!
Backlash 2007 Women’s Title Melina v Mickie – Great match and they both looked good. I just wish she would have debuted her Reverse Legdrop DDT thing for the win instead of the Reverse DDT..
Survivor Series 2005 Women’s Title Trish v Melina – Her first title match and it was pretty good. Took them a long time to let her win the belt but this was proof that she could have great matches.
Practically all of her matches with McCool have been awesome. I would say the best of the bunch were The Bash where she lost belt, NOC champ where she got rolled up, and a SD match where she got the Last Call for the win!
Favorite moments were when she gave Maria the best b*tch slap ever on Raw in Jan 2007! :o
i love melina she is one of my favorite diva. i got a little connection with her for some reason. plus she debuted a day before my birthday. i remeber when she came to sd! and did that split. i was like woah. the next day on my b-day all i thought about was her and my gifts lol. i just kept thinking who is that beautiful girl who did that split and was all bitchy on the mic. love you melina. you rock.
My fave Melina moment was when she won the Battle Royal on The Raw Eddie Guerrero tribute show. The win was pretty un-expected and really showed that Melina was not to be a diva to under-estimate, especially after she eliminated the Womens Champ Trish at the end for the win
I think Melina’s best moment was when she confronted Trish after her match after her shoulder injury and talked about The torch being passed because it kinda was. Trish was on top and Melina was given a chance to shine and lead the division today! I also think the following match was also great!
Her run in with John Cena during his feud with Kevin Federline, when she kidnapped Trish, the time she won the battle royal on the Eddie Guerrero tribute show, when Michelle McCool lowblowed her during her entrance at Night of Champions, when she got kisses then pinned by Mickie James at Survivor Series. So many wonderful Melina memories.
Oh Melina. She’s far and away my favourite wrestler ever. I don’t care what people say, Melina > Rock and Austin combined. B)
I’ve got quite a few favourite Melina moments, haha, but I’ll try to narrow it down.
1. The night she fired Mick Foley. The end result wasn’t as good as it could have been (and as Mick wanted it to be), but they pulled this one angle off perfectly. After being involved with Foley for the previous few months – particularly at SummerSlam in ‘I Quit’ – you could feel the emotion. This proved that she could potentially play a strong, sympathetic face character who the fans could get behind. ‘Course, she did revert back to her bitchy self and low blow her mentor, but still, this segment showed her range of abilities as an actress and as a character. Seeing her with Vince and Shane kinda made it clear that they really wanted to give this girl the reigns once Trish and Lita left.
2. The sexual harrassment Press Conference. You forget how prominent a figure Melina was on SmackDown 2005…she was by far the key member of MNM, and I really doubt that Morrison would be around today had Melina not been involved. This angle in particular was pretty monumental for her, and yeah, I know that some people criticised it, but she was terrific here. The crowd were SUPER into it, and she just went all out with the crying and the dialogue. It demonstrated that if given the chance Melina could easily be the next top diva.
3. Melina vs. Mickie James, Backlash 2007. The best match of both women, IMO, and the best women’s match in years. A lot of people tend to forget about it, weirdly. I felt that this match (and this feud in general) proved that the division could survive without Trish given the right amount of time and effort. The two girls went all out, and really cemented their positions as the ‘new’ top divas.
4. Melina & Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix & Katie Lea on the RAW following the I Quit match @ ONS 2008. Firstly, it was weird seeing Melina and Mickie team up, and it was cool that they played this up. Secondly, seeing Melina go absolutely crazy on Beth was awesome. The crowd were so f-ing into it that it was unreal. That entire storyline was terrific…Melina literally went from being the most over heel diva to the most over face diva in the space of about a week. I kinda wish she’d kept this sort of tweener, bitchy-face character, but oh well.
5. The breakdown of MNM, Judgement Day 2006. Awesome, but heartbreaking because MNM were so great. From Melina’s attack on Mercury to Melina slapping Teddy Long, this was pretty immense. Ms. Perez at her bitchy best, haha.
6. MNM interrupting the Heidenreich/Michelle McCool/Joy Giovanni etc celebration thing on SmackDown in mid-2005. Melina was hilarious here. I’ve got some quotes, lol.
“Chocolate Hershey Kisses? Give me a break. Doesn’t everyone know that there’s nothing sweeter than MNM?”
“Actually Michelle, all you’re doing is getting fat. So why don’t you and the dumplings get out the ring and let MNM take their proper spotlight?”
“Oh, are you going to ask me to be your friend? Let me save you the trouble. I will never be your friend. My friends are MNM, the tag team champions. My friends are important…They’re not some pathetic loser who runs around the ring acting like a kindergartener. On crack!”
Oh God, I miss the bitch. :/ Still love her though.
Oh, and I love that she’s taken on the role of Queen of the Slap, as it were. Teddy Long, John Cena, Maria, Maryse, Alicia Fox…who am I missing?
And Mickie James & Melina vs. Jillian Hall & Layla on RAW in December 2008…the show where Trish returned. Melina was wearing the cool blue attire with the flames on it, and she and Mickie did a piggy back/leap frog entrance. The ending was totally weird, because both women randomly broke down and started crying. :S
Oh, and her run-in with Mickie James (and Super Crazy) a week or so before she won the Women’s title for the first time. She called Super Crazy ‘este cabrón’, and Super Crazy slapped Melina with Mickie’s hand. Then Melina went crazy on Mickie, and they had to be pulled apart. Naturally, Melina ends the scene perfectly, shouting “I’m the true champion you whore! You KNOW IT!”. :D
Wow.So many moments,so little time…..Ok,here goes.
1.Her FEUD with Beth Phoenix in 2008-This was by far the best Diva feud of 2008.And I’m talking the BEGINNING of 2008,not the end.People tend to forget it,because of Melina’s unfortunate injury,but this FEUD was definitely great and should be recognized.
2.Melina’s passing the torch promo with Trish-This promo was so on point it was crazy!Melina may not be seen as the ‘it’ girl by anyone,but to me she most definitely is.She was the top heel for years.and now she’s my top face.
3.Her SS with Trish-This was a great match.The moves and the emotion was ALL there.You can’t deny that this match proved why Melina was and is a top Diva.I especially enjoyed the early flashes of her feud with Mickie when they had a catfight on the outside.
4.Her catfight-promo with Mickie backstage-You know,the one where Mickie slapped her and Melina called Mickie a cheap whore.Gotta’ love that Melina! ;)
5.Melina’s mini-feud with Jillian on Smackdown-This feud is SOOOO underrated.Everyone went wild when Melina and Jillian kicked each other’s asses like nobody’s business!It was a nice treat seeing Jillian prove her could-be top Diva spot.
6.Melina’s first feud with Mickie-C’mon.C’moooooon. ;)
7.Her debut-I was astounded and highly offended by her bitchiness.This was the beginning of my,”Wait,I’m not supposed to like her…..but I do anyways phase.
8.Melina’s feud with Michelle McCool-These two pushed the boundaries to the limit and barely had any promo time at all!It was the beginning of Smackdown’s Diva supremacy,no doubt.
9.Bitchslap to Maria-Hahahaha.
10.Firing Mick Foley-I LOVVVVVVED THIS!!!!!!She OWNED the segment,and it was HIGHLY entertaining.I especially felt for Mick when he was low-blowed.

My favorite moments of Melina is when she ran to Beth Phoenix and hit her with her boot, whipping that thing like a real HELL-CAT.
I ROLLED ON THE FLOOR when she botched her own entrance at Survivor Series in 2007, but handled it like a pro!
Fav matches, obviously her I Quit match with Beth, the NOC match with Michelle, and the Tag Matches she had with Gail against Alicia Fierce and Michelle. Also her match with Trish at SS of 05, getting into a future legends’ face.
She’s and innovator and is on the rise in her career, GET WELL SONE, MELINA!
The reason why I have so much respect for this women is because of her passion for this industry.
My favourite Melina moment would have to be when she and Trish had a bit of a small fued. There was one battle royal where it came down to the two of them with Melina coming out on top.
First women of Mexican heritage to win the WWE Womens Championship, one of the most innovative, intelligent and beautiful women in wrestling.
gmotso-I just saw it,and the match you’re talking about is the one MNM had with Batista and Rey after Melina tried to seduce Batista.LOL She was PISSSSSED.
Melina is amazing. She is my favorite WWE Diva. She is someone who I am proud to call my role model. I am proud of Melina and what she accomplished these past 5 years she has been with WWE.
The Melina Moments that stood out to me was when she won the Womens Title, for the first time at Raw and for the 3rd time at the 2009 Royal Rumble. When she won a championship, she proved to me that hard work and dedication pays off. She deserved every one of her championships. She has Earned them. I think Her Victory at the 2009 Royal Rumble stood out the most to me. I feel this victory stood out becasue of the fact she came back from her heel injury. This comeback proved to me how truely dedicated to the bussiness she is. She worked hard to come back and it payed off. :)

My favorite Melina feud was her feud with Beth Phoenix. Their matches never dissapointed me. They worked very well together. I think their feud told a story. I think their feud is one of the best WWE Women’s feuds in recent history. It will be a feud I will remember.

OMG i have sooo many fav MELINA moments hmm let me see…
First~ has to be her debut into the WWE.
Second~ Is that falls count anywhere match with MICKIE JAMES i LUUUVVVED that match especially when she ripped the towl off of CANDICE MICHELLE and then put it over MICKIE’S head lol.
Third~ All of her heat matches with MICKIE. those were some of their best matches.
Fourth~ definitely when she won her first WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIP.
Fifth~ Her and MICHELLE McCOOL’S fued.
Sixth~ Is when she got drafted to SMACKDOWN…now im not gonna lie when she first got drafted i was like WFT and damn near broke the t.v. but to me when she got there i luved her even more.
Seventh~ is when she came back to raw and won the DIVAS CHAMPIONSHIP! i didnt even go to school that next day because my throat was killing me from screaming that whole night lol.
Eighth~ Her SUMMERSLAM match with my first ever fav diva TRISH STRATUS.
Ninth~ idk if anybody remembers this match but it was on heat it was MELINA and JILLIAN vs ASHLEY and MARIA. this match lasted almost 10 min. it wasnt the best match ( considering who was on the other team ) but for some reason it still remains one of my fav melina matches. she was just so bitchy in that match and i luved every minute of it.
Tenth~ All the Great memories that she brought to us that i 4got to name. all the Great ones she’ll bring in 4 months…4 LOOOONG months.
Melina has had my attention since day ONE, without a doubt you could tell this girl was going to be a major star, she had a quality and swagger NO diva has been able to match, from her entrance to her promo’s and in ring work, she’s one of a kind.
Favourite Melina moments
1- Melina’s promo before the Candice vs Melina bra and panties match on Raw, Candice came out and absolutely butchered everyone with her terrible mic work (she sounded drunk as a skunk) and Melina came out and absolutely OWNED her and even mocked her with that ridiculous go daddy spin thing she does, PRICELESS.
2- Melina’s kindnapping and Match with Trish at Survivor Series, Melina was just coming into her own as a wrestler and her and Trish put on a hell of a match.
3- Anything she did with MNM
I Have a ton of my favorite Melina moment… Let’s see there was her debut (which she did her entrance for the first time)… Her fueds with Torrie Wilson, Christy Hemme and Michelle Mccool (her debut match) hmmm the time she won that Eddie G. Tribute battle royal (eliminating Trish)… Her first title match against Trish(SS) That short fued she had with Jillian and Trish in 2006…Her fued with Mickie in 2007 (it was pretty clear that those two took trish and litas place after they retired) her segments with mic foley and Vince and last but not least her fueds with Michelle Mccool and Beth… All that stands out in my head
Actually, from the new divas generation, it’s not Michelle who first started making history; it was Melina. So, I’d definitely include the “I Quit” & “Falls Count Anywhere” match. And the next thing that is a must is when she fired Mick Foley. Epic!
“Ummmm,when did she slap Maryse?”
In their champion vs. champion match. Maryse did her pose, but Melina wasn’t having any of it and just slapped her across the face, lol.
I forgot to mention the Melina/Jillian relationship. Forget McCool and Layla, forget TBP, these two were the trend-setters. Special mention to all of their little WWE.com After the Bell segments, especially their one with Ashley.
Oh, just one more. When Nitro and Melina were backstage after they’d beaten Mickie and Super Crazy in a tag match, and Melina said this:
“This is really weird…where is everyone? … Yeah, they said there was gonna be an interviewer here…they promised ME a coverage. Yeah, I have an important announcement to make: I’m facing Mickie James for the Women’s Championship next week. Nitro…who’s more important than *me*?”
Aw I think that is a great idea to do a tribute.
Now let’s see favourite Melina moments well from recently it would have to be NOC match with MMcool. Winning the divas championship. Fued with Beth Phoenix. Fued with Mickie. The time she and MNM kidnapped trish at survivor series i think. FLUFFY BOOTS! Her whole time as heel. When she and beth were best friends.
and a more personal one for me was seeing her at my first ever live house show and screaming my heart out and she pointed at me because i had a massive sign saying i mark for melina. i went crazy when she did that.

I just love how she changed my mind about her. I hated her in mnm, thought she was useless, and then I saw exactly what she can do, and I was like, wow…I’ve wasted a lot of time hating her, she’s amazing! She is really the epitome of a diva to me, so so underrated compared to Mickie and Maria et al.
My favorite Melina moment? There’s so many! I would have to say when she won her first women’s championship or well her entire feud with Mickie James. Congrats on 5 years Melina, can’t wait to see you back in the ring doing what you do best.
I’ve always noticed Melina. How could you not? She’s gorgeous,unique & has skills in the ring. I really didn’t get into her as much as I am now until she returned from injury in late 2008. Probably because I realized how much I missed her doing the splits on my T.V screen every monday night ;) lol. Now she’s pretty much my favorite diva. Thanks for an awesome 5 years Melina! and final when Melina came on the palace of wisdom with John Morrison

My favorite Melina moment has to be the I Quit match with Beth Phoenix. I’m sure it’s a popular moment for many, but it really proved to me that she could give everything she had. It was her best match to date imo, with Night of Champions trailing a close second, but it was just overall brilliant. The time given, the pace, the moves, the workers. It proved to me that she could do more than she’s shown in the past, and I actually was even feeling sorry for her at the end when she was in the submission and I rarely ever get THAT involved into a match so it was huge for me.
My Melina moment when you recaptured the wwe womans championship at the 2009 royal rumble
My favorite match was Melina vs. Mickie James for the WWE Women’s Championship. The reason why, I pick this match because this was on my birthday February 19 of 2007. I will never forget that night on RAW, when she won her first WWE Women’s Championship. I was so happy that night. To this day, I still remember that match when my birthday come up. =)

This girl is my QUEEN. and the wow Erin I used to be a member of fhe forums on that shit, so how awesome is it to celebrate Melina’s 5 years. For me I gotta take it back to her Kyra days mainly when her and Shelly Martinez were in masks and Shelly got a little punch happy and well Melina knocked her out lol, Her audition on tough enough, and actually making it to the episode they choose the 8 they wanted. Her OVW debut, her original debut on Raw when Randy Orton was Gm for the day, her re-debut in the WWE on Smackdown with MNM also taken Eddie’s Frogsplash to her back, her feuds with Michelle, Torrie, Trish, Christy, Jillian, they were preparing her for where she is now. Her and Nitro’s debut on Raw again, her fued with Trish, Mickie, Candice, Maria, Mick Foley, Beth mainly their I quit Match, and Royal Rumble match, where you see she’s so bendable lol, her and Mickie finally showing they are best friends and started teaming up I miss their leapfrog entrance, sadly she was injured but came back and re won the womens title for a third time. Her trade to Smackdown and upping the Womens division on Smackdown, her coming back to Raw winning the divas title. Ahhh that woman has just been the best..
My favorite moments of Melina was her 08 I Quit Match with Beth Phoenix, & Her Falls Count Anywhere match with Mickie James.
Those 2 Matches were really unique moments for The Divas Division.
