In Video: Epiphany vs Josie (OVW Women’s Title Match)

OVW, once a developmental territory to WWE, has been a breeding ground to such Diva greats as Victoria, Mickie James and Melina but in the past couple of years since dropping its association with the company, has had to re-invent itself.

The new OVW women’s division features the likes of The Blossom Twins and Epiphany, young wrestlers honing their craft in a well established promotion/training facility, with hopes of making it to the big leagues like the women before them. One woman, an OVW mainstay from the early days, Josie you may recognise though as former TNA Knockout, Sojo Bolt. Josie, soon to be seen in Wrestlicious, returned to OVW after leaving TNA and as discussed in our exclusive interview with her, has been something of a mentor to these young girls.

On TV however, it’s another story — Josie has been embattled in a feud with Epiphany for some time now with this being billed as a match ‘two years in the making’. The decorated 5-time OVW Women’s Champ, Josie finally gets into the ring with Epiphany with the title on the line.

First of all, for those of you unaware of Epiphany, you can hit up her Wikipedia and/or follow her on Twitter. Epiphany is basically OVW’s HBIC. Think Kong. Josie, I guess is the veteran babyface ala Mickie or Trish. We ready to watch?

Right from the bat, Epiphany attacks Josie throwing her off the ring apron as she makes her entrance before slamming her into the side of the ring. Great way to start the match and tell a story, obviously Epiphany is meant to be bad ass and aggressive and she got that over with the attack.

Epiphany pretty much controlled most of the match and was compelling to watch, I felt. She plays the heel role well; arguing with the referee, gloating to the crowd etc. She certainly has the charisma down.

Not a bad match. This is the first time I’ve gotten to see Epiphany and I think she has a certain swagger.

What are your thoughts on the extra added OVW?

These Two Women Are Great Diva’s Espicially Epiphany and I Never Seen Diva-Dirt Do An OVW Topic

omg it’s funny you posted a OVW match i had been checking out they’re division via youtube last week XD, so far i had only seen 6 females there, and Josie and epiphany seem to be the best they have right now,

from what i have seen they have the blossom twins that are worse then the Bella’s (and they let them hold the championship XD), and cj lane and Taryn shay seem to do nothing but kick in they’re matches and do rest holds

I thought she was doing MMA nowadays, but i dont know if that means she stopped wrestling. Maybe she is doing both.

It’s nice to see OVW managed to ‘rebuild’ their womens division after WWE pulled out, but they dont really have the level of the old division yet. At 1 time you had Katie, Beth, Serena, Melody, ODB and Josie all working there at the same time, its hard to rebuild from that. At least they have Josie back and the Blossom Twins (when is WWE, TNA or Shimmer going to sign them?). Epiphany though hasnt impressed me yet, other than being “big and strong”, i prefer Athena from Texas who is also strong, but much more athletic.

And nice to see Diva-dirt spend some time on indy wrestling ;-)

“from what i have seen”, does that mean 1 match only? The Blossom twins are miles ahead of the Bellas. They know how to sell moves, arent afraid to take bumps, show much more moves than the bellas, and they play the twin-game much better than the bellas (blossoms are true heels). Sure, they arent very technical wrestlers, you have to see the blossoms more like Amber O’Neal/Krissy Vaine in their early Shimmer period. 2 (very) cute heels who bring a dose of comedy to the wrestling.

@mikas well ok not worse then the Bella’s but of the 3 matches i have seen them in they didn’t do much

  • Mikas

theregoeskitty: They definately had a few bad matches, like their debut match in OVW against Epiphany (which was terrible, they were booked as bella-clones). They only really have 1 experienced opponent in OVW, that naturally contributes to the matches not being that special. But they had lots of good matches outside of OVW in the UK against people like Jetta and Wesna.

Wow! That was a great match, and I definitely like this Epiphany girl’s swagger. ;)

    A+

so if we are going to see ovw matches does that mean when ever mach1 has a diva division set up we will seem them to

I love the blossom twins. I say them at an all star show and met them after they’re really nice. I quite like epiphany she seems interesting. Josie did a good job.
    Thanks for posting.

I’m really glad Josie landed back on her feet and found her way back to OVW, albeit as a face, which I really don’t like but I don’t see how this is a 2 years in the making feud seeing as Josie’s only come back at the end of last year and Epiphany only debuted last year- the match itself was alright, would’ve preferred to see more before Taryn Shay and CJ Lane interfered, I guess the Blossoms are faces now, they seemed to loiter awkwardly at the end which was off putting.

The thing about OVW is its commentators, who are almost on Wrestlicious terms and its camera work which is reminiscent of TNA’s 70′s shots, I know its a local channel but everything look like its filmed from last millennium.

I’d like to see more of Epiphany and Josie, for me they’re the front runners of the division. Taryn Shay is pretty much a valet with occasional ring work and CJ Lane just performs missile drop kicks that often miss. I’d like to see more women round there in general, OVW seems to be the only company that are pushing legitimate female atheletes, I mean I’m all for FCW training models and TNA using indy talents, but at the end of the day someone needs to keep the levels up.

As for Melody she was moved to Vyper Fight League, a MMA company of OVW’s, she’s technically not released from OVW but appears there.

Good to see OVW here. I wish more African-American women were interested in wrestling. Of course race doesn’t matter but from a personal perspective I wish it was so and at times I wonder why it’s not.

Great seeing Diva-Dirt aknowleging the OVW girls. BTW, there called Femme-Fatales now, not Divas, cuz WWE doesn’t own them anymore.

As for the match, it was good, until the other girls got involved. I cool to see two black chicks headline a women’s division, cuz you rarely see that in wrestling. Epiphany has swag, but the girl still needs more training. Taryn Shay is more of a submissionist, and CJ LAME is just bland IMO. The Blossom Twins are still new on the roster, they still need time to grow.

One thing I hate about OVW is the commentary. Those guys need to go.

It’s fantastic to see that OVW didn’t give up it’s women’s division after the WWE pulled out from them. I thought this was a good match. You can tell Epiphany is still new but her charisma and ring-presence is great and she pulled off this match rather well.

I think it’d be great for DivaDirt to cover OVW’s women’s division when it’s able to! (As if you all aren’t busy enough that is. ;)
