The Glamazon, Beth Phoenix inched ever closer to the coveted Women’s Championship on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown as she delivered an all-mighty Glam Slam on the current champ, Michelle McCool. The Glamazon’s mega momentum was overshadowed, however, by a post-match announcement for next week’s show. Watch below:
This week’s Divas action saw the aforementioned Phoenix and McCool in tag team action; Phoenix teamed with the newcomer Tiffany and McCool with her Simply Flawless team mate, Layla. ‘Flawless’, known for subjecting Mickie James to rather painful ‘Piggie James’ jibes, unveiled their latest campaign this week against Beth Phoenix with t-shirts reading ‘Glam-a-Man?’ Stay classy, WWE.
We kick off the match with Phoenix and Layla. Layla attempts to fight the powerful Glamazon with some kicks to the legs but Beth picks her up with great ease, hoisting her in the air for an airplane spin and drops her back down to the canvas. This leads to a really funny moment with Layla, who is easily the best comedienne among the Divas, trying to make a tag to her tag team partner ["Ohhhh Michellllllllle"] only to find out that she’s in the wrong corner. As she gathers her surroundings, she walks right into a clothesline from Phoenix who then tags out to Tiffany.
Tiffany hits a really nice crossbody from the middle turnbuckle and goes for a pin but Layla kicks out. She then hits Lay with a rather weak elbow but then hits another one which looks much better. Tiffany then goes for a suplex which to me, looked a little slow and Layla landed awkwardly rather than nice and flat. Another near fall.
Tiffany hits a few forearms, throws Layla into the corner and runs at her but ends up being ‘thrown’ over the top rope by Layla, though honestly it looks more like she just jumped over the top rope. Layla then hits a really beautiful kick which connects to Tiffany’s head. Layla runs at Tiffany but she blocks a forearm and instead hits a hangman on Layla over the top rope. As the referee tends to Lay, on the outside McCool runs and jumps Tiffany from behind. Layla then climbs out of the ring and hits Tiffany’s head against the side of the apron before rolling her back in.
In comes McCool now and Layla throws Tiffany in the champ’s direction and she goes for a clothesline into a spin. McCool grabs Tiffany by the head and begins hitting her with knee strikes before slamming her down to the canvas and smashing her head against it. McCool then goes for a leg drop but Tiffany rolls out of the way and crawls to her corner to tag in Beth, Michelle however grabs her foot but Tiff breaks free and gets the tag.
Beth gets the hot tag with a great crowd reaction and runs right into McCool. She then hits her with an overhead toss and double axe handles. The Glamazon then sets up McCool for a beautiful stalling suplex, then uses the ropes as a slingshot before hitting the suplex. Beth seemingly has the win as she goes for a cover but in comes Layla to break up the count and she again gets hoisted high above Beth’s head in a gorilla press slam position. However, McCool — now up — kicks her.
McCool goes for the Faith Breaker but can’t pick up Beth, instead Beth manages to pick up Beth on her back, hooking her under the arms. McCool then wriggles free and applies a waist lock to Beth. Beth runs at the ropes, ducking between the middle rope as McCool’s throat hits the top rope.
This allows Beth to go for the Glam Slam, with the Women’s Champion screaming ‘no’, the slam is hit to perfection and Beth picks up a win over the champ.
After the match however, before Tiffany and Beth can celebrate out comes Vickie who tells Tiffany to ‘take her cute little skirt’ and hit the bricks. Liking the skirt mockery from Michelle last week and now Vickie.
Vickie comes to the ring and tells Beth she wants an apology. Beth says she apologised to her in her office already, this prompts Vickie to say she wants an apology in front of the crowd. Beth apologises, saying she realises that she shouldn’t have put her hands on an authority figure but Vickie isn’t pleased. Vickie says Beth will regret putting her hands on her and says she’s superior to Beth. She then announces that Beth will face her next week on SmackDown as the segment ends.
All in all, it was another strong week for SmackDown with plenty of ground covered that should pose new questions and storyline progression for next week.
The match was great. with Beth particularly shining, coming into her own as a babyface and something of an anarchist. She comes across as a no nonsense, Stone Cold-like babyface and I think the fans are really responding to that and she got a decent pop when she got the hot tag. Tiffany had a good showing also, as with last week but there’s definitely room for improvement. Seeing her in the ring with Layla was somewhat strange, we’re so used to thinking of Layla as being less experienced in comparison to the likes of Beth and Michelle but then here comes Tiffany, who is less experienced than her. I think Layla has become such a solid, dependable worker who deserves all the success that comes her way. I don’t consider her to be ‘less experienced’ anymore, I see her as being on someone that can be relied upon to have great matches with everyone just as I do the likes of Beth, McCool etc. No one in the Divas division does comedy like her, most are concerned with being ‘sexy’ but she’s not afraid to be fun and goofy and I love it. She’s become such a well rounded worker and character.
Beth picking up a victory over McCool, pinning the champion, is definitely a step in the right direction and can easily be drawn upon should they announce a match between them for the title in the future. Obviously, it looks as though a WrestleMania match which I would have loved to have seen, is off the cards. That’s okay, I tried not to get my hopes too high up and the nature of ‘Mania is so that as many girls can get a payday as possible — quantity over quality. Even then, there was no progression on what happened on Raw on Monday save for a little bit of commentary. Nowhere were the Raw Divas to get their revenge, nowhere was there evidence of Beth maybe backstage on the phone with Eve and/or Gail to hint the obvious six-Diva WrestleMania match. I think we all know now it will be Beth, Eve & Gail vs Layla, Maryse & Michelle but there was no progression on that angle which is a huge waste considering there’s only a week till the show.
I felt the Vickie announcement of Beth versus her for next week overshadowed the fact that Beth had gotten a huge win over the Women’s Champion, which I feel is far more important. Nonetheless, Beth vs Vickie, I’m assuming, is a sort of replacement for what should have been Mickie vs Vickie. If we think about it, Mickie has a whole hell of a lot more to be pissed about with Vickie and I think doing Vickie vs Beth now will stagnate what could be a big match between Mickie and Vickie upon her return. Vickie shouldn’t get in the ring with everyone and it should have been saved for Mickie’s return, after all she was the one who was cost the title at Vickie’s hands.
I’m going to hazard a guess and suggest that Vickie will probably change it to a handicap match next week, with Layla & Michelle teaming with her against Beth, resulting in a beatdown. We may get a save from Eve and Gail if they have Beth come into the mix of that angle on Monday’s Raw and announce the WrestleMania match between Raw and SmackDown next week.

I was thinking the same thing next will be a handicap match of some sort where either Michelle or Layla with the pin or michelle and Layla beat down Beth and let Vickie pin Beth (ugh sick to my stomach with that thought) and i kinda was hoping the Raw Diva’s will get involved im 20 percent banking on it and 80 percent not really sure but i don’t think we will get a WM match either and in away i rather there be no match then see someone of the likes of Bellas ( i love them but they dont belong) Tiffany (loved her promo with Serena on FCW but still doesnt belong) and K2 at wrestlemania.

Smackdown was good this week. I liked seeing Beth woman handle Michelle. Their shirts at the beginning was alittle much but like I did with the Piggie James stuff I’ll deal with it. So far Beth being face is kind of fun. Tiffany and Layla also played their parts very well this week. I like Vickie’s little Excuse Me stuff but shouldn’t she have an entrance theme by now?
The shirts were all right for me, it’s kinda set up a gimmick for Michelle and Layla. I bet they’ll have shirts for all the divas they have rivalries with in the future… would be interesting to see what the WWE can come up with. >.>
I was a bit weirded out by the fact that there was no build up from the past RAW, but I guess that shows that this Beth vs Simply Flawless is more important. Maybe next Friday we’ll have Vickie vs Beth with Maryse running in followed by an all out brawl. Maryse, whether or not she’s a lone star could be part of simply flawless >.> Divas faction?
The match was good. I loved that McCool got Glamslammed and there is heaps of potential for a great match between the two. I think it’s what we’ve all been waiting for. And I say this week “Yay Tiffany.” :)

SD was awesome! Im actually happy to see Beth face Vickie nxt week. I would think Michelle vs Beth would be too soon. Although I think it should b a WM!

Yay! Finally, Beth is face! I love it! The crowd really responds to her well, and we haven’t seen the whole ‘power face’ angle since Victoria, which was back in 05, so I’m psyched!
The match was great, aside from the crooked selling here and there. Beth and Michelle’s exchange is much improved form the last time they faced off. I’m not thrilled with the whole Vickie vs Beth thing, but I think that next week is going to be a nice, long segment, where Beth is basically screwed into losing until Mickie returns for the save or the Raw divas.
All in all, a great Smackdown as usual.

didnt they give vicky kristal marshalls feeling me theme to her dunno why they didnt continue it lOl,the fans reacted well to beth which is good since they wherent booing her so this is a good change & tiffany was sloppy wit that suplex but overall she was awesome & getting better then maria ever was,layla is hilarious i think shes one of the better diva search girls with Michelle mccool but i think all 5 divas where good here…
Raw and Smackdown are both taping Monday night in San Jose so the whole Diva roster will be available.
Beth/Vickie doesnt happen Monday night, it will happen at WM in a LumberJill match.
All the Divas get a PPV check……..Vickie gets Glam-Slammed to a HUGE pop.
Okay some of you may have seen this (Mr. Glamazon) in another post but here are my plans for the week before WM. Tell me what you think (I really want feedback!!!)
RAW (March 22):
Michelle McCool, Layla & Maryse defeat Eve Torres, Gail Kim & Kelly Kelly. After the match, the 3 heels attack the faces until Beth Phoenix makes the save chasing the heels out of the ring!
SmackDown (3/26):
Beth’s out first. Vickie then comes out and stops at the ramp and says “This match is now a Lumberjill Match!” Out come all the heels: Michelle McCool, Layla, Maryse, Alicia Fox, Jillian, Katie Lea, Natalya & Rosa Mendes. Vickie and Beth don’t even fight as Vickie calls in the Divas to beat down Beth. They do, until Tiffany, Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, The Bella Twins, Savannah, and a returning Mickie James make the save and eliminate the heels from the ring much to disgust of Vickie Guerrero who announces the most likely ‘Faces vs. Heels Diva Tag Match’ at WM.
WrestleMania XXVI:
Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Tiffany, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, Kelly Kelly, The Bella Twins & Savannah defeat Michelle McCool, Vickie Guerrero, Layla, Maryse, Alicia Fox, Jillian, Katie Lea, Natalya & Rosa Mendes.

After the match, Vickie gets in Beth’s face and slaps her. She gets scared and turns only to be stopped by the faces. From behind, Beth sets up Vickie for the ‘Glam Slam’ and executes. With the crowd cheering the faces celebrate their win as the heels pull Vickie out of the ring.
I like McCool’s hair, it looks messy but still sexy. lol
I never thought i’d say this but i’m loving Beth at the moment! She pulls off being ‘face’ well, after such a flat and quite frankly boring run as a heel i’m pleasantly surprised! Crowd is into it too, WWE would be foolish not to utilize this at Wrestlemania!

Maybe Mickie comes back next week and we get Mickie/Beth vs. Simply Flawless at Mania?? Great segment tonight…but I’m about ready to chew my arm off if Beth doesn’t get a title shot soon!! :-)

the cause of the delay of the divas’ match card on mania (if ever there would be) seems like to be the condition of mickie james now. i think the officials are still hopeful that she might join and have beth, mickie and a raw diva. vs the simple flawless and maryse. or they could have the another rumored match of 15 diva battle royale
Robert J. – At first i was hoping for a DIAVS tag winner take all lumberjill match with MICHELLE & MARYSE vs BETH & EVE . but since the MARYSE and EVE feud is still lukewarm i would love to see your ideas happen next week and at WRESTLEMANIA.
OMG today my geometry teacher kept saying “EXCUSE ME!!” and i just could not stop laughing because she sounded just like VICKIE GUERRERO lol. anyhoo…i liked SMACKDOWN this week. i think the writers on SMACKDOWN should give the RAW writers a hand. i mean neither show is perfect but to me RAW just doesnt let a rivalry (especially the DIVAS) show its full potential they just rush into the next one. like this BETH and MICHELLE feud will probably last for another month or 2. but that MARYSE and EVE feud (if that’s what you wanna call it).. ill give it another 2 weeks then they’ll move onto KELLY KELLY.
Does Beth & Tiffany remind anyone else of Xena and Gabrielle? xD
if there going with face vs heel at wrestlmania i hop they both the woman’s and diva title on the line to give the match a bigger draw if not is going to be a some old divas match
I think with a little work, Beth Phoenix could be “the one” that they build the entire women’s division around. For WM, I’d like to see Beth vs. Michelle for the women’s title. Screw the “get all the women on the card” philosophy.
the match was very good,Beth and Tiffany are making a good team,Tiffany is really having a good in ring presence.Beth was awesome as usual and she´s making a great babyface role,a little alike Stone Cold,and that´s fits a lot better in her character than the usual face role.
the segment between her and Vickie was a little lame,but i guess it served to get the crowd even more against Vickie and supporting Beth.
of course next week Beth won´t even touch Vickie,probably she will suffer a beatdown until probably Gail,Eve come out and make the save,even because SD will be taped after Raw ends.
Robert J´s idea is very good only with one problem:most likely Mickie won´t return for WM.

Even so, all the women performed well. I hope WWE see that Layla is one of the most well-rounded divas in the WWE at the moment, and that she should get her push at some point in the future. As usual, Michelle and Beth were great in the ring, and Tiffany appears promising. A good week for the Smackdown divas.
What does this mean for Wrestlemania? I’d have liked to see Michelle and Layla cut a promo about why they did what they did on Raw.
I think this Diva segement on SD was a very good idea.The fact that Beth got to counter Michelle’s faith breaker was nice.Tiffany has proved she’s no wall flower the
way she went after layla.And Beth pinning Michelle was a step towards a Women’s title match which I think is not far off.After all minus the time That goes from RR where
mickie had the Women’s title until Michelle got it back,Michelle’s had the title ever
since June 2009 and it’s just a matter of time before Michelle has to put the title on the line again.And since it doesn’t appear we are gonna have a WM 26 Diva’s match
which to me is a great disappointment we ‘ve now got a Vickie vs Beth in a main event
match for next weeks SmackDown which in itself is very good.That gives WWE creative some time to make this next weeks match really awesome.And can have some interference by heel and faces diva’s from both brands .As regard’s to Mickie being involved in this ,it’s gonna be a while before Mickie is well enough to climb back in the ring and most likely support Beth in what ever storyline is going at the present time.I’m just hopping that they give this Beth Tiffany some time to build as she has
proved to be an execelent in ring worker.I do believe that WWE must really be high up one Beth to give her the main event on SmackDown.Some good times I must think are in store for Beth who has proved to be an in-ring worker.Who knows where this well lead Beth.She is now a Dominate Face Diva On SmackDown which is something all us Beth fans have been waiting for for some time.I do though think in some way Vickie is gonna cost Michelle the title by her own actions.The last time Michelle had a title defense was the Royal Rumble Jan31 so soon Michelle is due to have to put her title on the line soon and by Beth pinning Michelle Beth is very close to getting her wish.Just a matter of time.But for now I’ll just take that Beth is a face and in the Main Event for Next week’s SmackDown.Friday March 26th 1 day before WM 26.Maybe just maybe WWE creative will find a way to get more Diva’s on SmackDown from both Raw and SmackDown.

Onto Smackdown!, it was definetly hit and miss this week.
Hits:
- Beth pinned Michelle.
- Storyline progression between Beth and Vickie has been made (which no doubt will be a handicap with Mickie saving the day)
- Laycool’s shirts were funny, I like them and the fact Layla makes them herself, kind of made her character even more goofy, but any character progression is good.
Misses:
- WTH are they now going to do for Mania? I’m lost once again in terms of I haven’t a clue where the booking is going.
- Where were the RAW Divas? Odd that they didn’t appear at all.
- With us knowing about Mickie’s staph infection, we all sort of feel like were getting a 2nd best plan of action right now, let’s hope Mickie returns soon so she can fued with Vickie while Beth can fued with Michelle, instead of Beth fueding with them both.
i’m still shaken over the fact that mickie could’ve DIED or lost her leg so I don’t want her to come back anytime soon, she needs to rest and think about her health. She dodged a huge bullet and i’m surprised no one even cares

Uhhhh, Beth vs Vickie sounds a whole helluva lot more entertaining then a ”Pajama Pillow Fight”. Hopefully it will be an actual wrestling match even if Vickie does no work & it turns into a 3-on-1.
RKOyou you’ve about got it right as to Mickie’s health..She was very very close to losing her right leg even close to losing her life..MRSA is a lot more serious then Staph infection.So mickie needs to take her time.As for Beth a nd Vickie’s match.Just be glad that theirs is an announced match for SmackDown.I think it will be interesting.As to what wil happen that’s anybody’s guess.It’s been a long time since I think Vickie has been in the ring .But Vickie made the match .So she’s gotta live wtih what ever happens…
RKOyou – umm i’ve been out of action for a while what happend to MICKIE???
my mom had the same thing she went to have a boil removed it burst and found out she had MRSA that was the worst week cause also my papa who was battling cancer last his battle not 3 days later and she wasn’t even able to go to his funeral she was in the hospital for 2 wks then when she got out she had to wear a pump pack that pump medicine into her body for like 6 months that was one of the worst times in my life so i can see the danger if mickie comes back to early no need to put your health behind your career.
Sorry if I may sound a bit ”over the top”, but I think Beth Phoenix is probably the most gifted woman’s wrestler in WWE history. Correct me if I’m wrong but it is just my opinion. She’s has all the skill in the world & it shows! She is very well-rounded (submissions,power,speed). Has an ametuer background which is always a plus & is so beautiful in person. She’s really come into her own as of late & it’s made me notice her even more then I already did. Does anyone else agree when I say she doesnt get the proper recognition she deserves? (please don’t chew me out over this).
iLUVMARYSE – I completely agree…but I am a little biased. :-) I have met Beth a couple times and she is so gracious, beautiful, and kind to everybody…truly a class act and a role model. I am really happy she has been so successful in her WWE career and hope it continues…plus I think she can really help some of the young Divas learn technique in the ring, like Eve and Layla who show real promise.
iLUVMARYSE ~ i kinda agree with you with the whole proper recognition thing. i think BETH will be the next MELINA (recognition wise). MELINA was at the top for a long time and then when CANDICE took the title she just fizzled out and was bumped to HEAT matches and losing to MICKIE most of the time. but then when she started became face we seen her in a new light and the people who didn’t really know or liked her loved her and im sure when she goes back to heel she’s gonna be a better one than her first time around as heel. and i think the same will happen to BETH just give it 2 or 3 more weeks until people can realize that shes a full blooded face they’re gonna love her and shes gonna build a bigger fan base so to me i think that shes gonna get that recognition that she deserves very soon. :)
I agree with ILUVMARYSE i would rather see Beth vs Vickie than a pillow fight lol but i would really want Michelle to be involved in mania somehow :/ maybe Vickie & Lay-Cool vs Beth, Mickie, Gail Kim….
btw Tiffany needs to change her attire it makes her look all weak and cutesy! that’s a raw divas attire!
Smackdown divas never fail to entertain. Great match, all the girls worked very well together. Layla has really grown with her character. Love this comedy gimmick she’s got. Loved the pop Beth got when she got the tag. Nice finish with Beth pinning the champion setting up for a title feud in the future.
I don’t see Michelle vs. Beth happening at WrestleMania sadly. I see a big divas tag team match. Probably this…

Very excited for next week. I see Vickie turning the match into a handicap match with it being Lay-Cool & Vickie vs. Beth Phoenix. Hopefully it gives us some build up to WrestleMania.
i agree with all that was said by iLUVMARYSE and Mr.Glamazon regarding Beth Phoenix.it´s not by mistake that Mickie,Melina,Candice,Maria,Kelly…almost all the Divas lockeroom praised Beth´s work and her personality outside the ring….
and one thing more,next week´s Beth vs Vickie is on the Smackdown promo,and that is something that we haven´t seen for the Divas for a long,long time…and tells that the WWE is really betting on Beth and in her face turn,maybe preparing to make her the top face Diva in the company.
