Today, April 14th, marks the five year anniversary of three-time Women’s Champion and one-time Divas Champion, Melina in the WWE. Five years ago, Melina along with Johnny Nitro (now John Morrison) and Joey Mercury  made their debuts as the formidable team MNM, taking SmackDown by storm. It’s been a long road for Melina who has had many feuds, title reigns and memorable matches, but today she stands as one of the top Divas in the WWE.

To celebrate Melina’s five year anniversary, join Melanie and I as we look back at some of Melina’s most memorable moments over the past five years, plus we are also joined by a special guest.

  1. i’m so happy. i rember this day. watching smackdown for the first time a day before my b-day. seeing this beautiful diva do her entrance and talk on the mic. melina was an early birthday present to me. she is one of my favorite divas. along with candice, mickie, beth, michelle, gail kim, alicia, layla, natalya and of course eve. melina i thank you so much and i love you for everything you do.

  2. It was a good audio show.
I think you should do more but only on the divas that have been in the WWE for a long while e.g. Mickie, Michelle, Jillian as they have been in the WWE for more than 4 years.

  3. Not in years has there been a woman quite as honest, passionate and feisty about wrestling. Melina is more than Sexy, Smart and Powerful. She is what every female wrestler should aspire to be. She has a great wealth of knowledge, but still feels that she is learning everyday. She has a heart-warming respect for her peers male or female, young or old. She approaches her wrestling the way I want to approach life: with joy, love, skill and dedication. Thank you, Melina. Thank you for dazzling us with your grace and talent. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better person. We all miss you in the ring, but when you make your triumphant return we know that it would have been worth the wait. WE LOVE OUR PAPARAZZI PRINCESS!!!

  4. Melina didn’t win her first title in the Falls Count Anywhere match. She had won it two weeks earlier and had her first defense in the FCA match.

Other than that this was a great podcast! Great Job!

    Melanie Reply:

    charlierogue26 — Whoopsie. Bad memory, I guess.

  5. I’ve been waiting on this for a while, haha. Just about too start. I’m sure it’ll be great, because honestly, where you could you go wrong with this girl?

  6. I hope she turns heel again. She is a perfect heel. But I guess WWE has enough heels for now.

  7. that was so good.
Melina is a lovely person and has entertained me personally all these five years and hopefully lots of years to come :)

  8. I loved it! Melina is such an amazing wrestler is almost crazy. I never new you knew her, well I only started checking out Diva-Dirt in the last month so I didn’t acctually know you guys had the power to get ANY wrestler until I saw the video of Layla an then heard Kristal, then Maria an Now Melina its just great she had such a good run in WWE so far an I swear the day she gets released is the day the WWE Diva fans stop watching WWE all together!

  9. My favourite early Melina moment was the promo she cut on Torrie Wilson in their first encounter together. I remember that clip because, of course, they both looked amazing but also, because if you watch it, Torrie really towered over Melina, yet here Melina was talking her down. Completely flawless. She plays a real awesome bitch. That whole feud told alot because she went over Torrie twice in back to back matches and considering how SUPER over Torrie at the time, to have an unknown diva that realistically we couldn’t care for come out on top over her says ALOT.

Melina said exactly what I was think in that really she came in at the end of something. Trish and Lita were on their way out, Victoria as well..and it is really fun and sad at the same time to think what the Melina of today could’ve done with all three of those ladies.

Thank you DD. Melina sounded so touched. She’s just so awesome in how much she puts into everything. Her interaction with the fans on Twitter makes you wonder why she cares so much, because nobody has kept that dialogue with their fan base like her. Do this again DD please with other divas. It doesn’t even have to be for anniversaries of debuts. Homages here and there would be cool.

  10. congratulations on a amazing 5 years to melina cantw ait for her to return,

it is also Amy Dumas (LITA) 35th birthday today!

  11. I love Melina and i’m so proud of her accomplishments!
I can’t wait to see her back in the ring tearing it up!
Thank you Diva Dirt for everything you do for us fans.

  12. Great podcast!!! I really enjoyed this one. Melina seems like such a sweet person. Her feud with Mickie James was my favorite diva feud and I really started to like her cause during that. Their feud at Backlash is one of my all time favorite matches. I hope you will do the samething for Mickie James on October 10, it will be her 5th year anniversary too: )

  13. She’s just a genuinely sweet person and this was a nice treat for her 5th anniversary, thanks DD!

The audio quality gets a little too low sometimes, I couldn’t hear some of her answers :(

  14. Incredible. Honestly, the best thing I’ve seen/heard on this site so far (and there’s been some great stuff). I mean, the retrospective at the start was great, because I’m a pretty big fan and I can relate, but the interview at the end just sealed the deal. I’ve seen quite a few Melina interviews, but she’s always seemed quite reserved and shy. Super-sweet, but kinda held back. But here she just opened up, and you could feel every word. She’s just so passionate about what she does, and everything she said was incredibly well put. Haha, I think I started to well up at the end. :S

But yeah, incredible. Thanks so much DD, and thanks for all the memories Melina! Favourite wrestler ever.

  15. Oh, and I think this should get the top spot on the main page of the site. :P

  16. Melina is probably one of my favorite wrestlers in the WWE right now. I have a lot of favorite moments involving her.

The very first was actually a pretty obscure one. It was during a tag team match that I think involved Mickie, Victoria and Maria. This, I think, was during the time when she was starting to get pushed as the next contender to Mickie’s title. It was the time when she debut the Extreme Makeover. I liked this moment because it was the first time when she showed the uniqueness of her style–the odd blend of brawler moves matched with ones that show off her flexibility. I liked that.

I also liked her Backlash match with Mickie. That was actually the very first time I’ve ever seen anyone use a leg nelson and I have to say that until now, it is still one of my favorite submission holds.

    Thank you, Melina. ;)

  17. that was a great interview please do more interviews like this thanks erin and melanie

  18. Another amazing interview! What a week…Melina and Maria. Thanks!!! (Looking fwd to the Beth podcast so we can all celebrate the beautiful Glamarous Amazon and her special achievements)

  19. I love Melina! She is such an inspiration and such a beautiful person, so crazy talented too!

    Thank you for 5 years!

  20. I’m only right at the beginning, but already it’s such a trip down memory lane! She is so so talented; she can make you hate her, make you love her, honestly she’s such a great wrestler, thank you so much for doing this :)

  21. Fantastic lil interview, I’m so happy she agreed to do one with ya. She’s amazing and so sweet and humble, she definitely deserves her position in the company.

My personal fav moments of Melina are the I Quit match and her debut with MNM.

Congrats on 5 years Mel! x

  22. Another wonderful interview. Here are my favorite moments of Melina’s career.

2005: Melina vs. Trish Stratus feud.
2006: Managing Johnny Nitro; these two were amazing together.
2007: Melina vs. Mickie James feud & their match @ Backlash.
2008: Melina vs. Beth Phoenix @ One Night Stand.
2009: Melina vs. Michelle McCool @ Night of Champions

I loved the whole idea of this. I hope you guys do these topics for other divas who have been in the WWE for awhile.

  23. She has the sweetest voice ever omg :’) I love her so much! She’s so sweet, I hate it when people are like “Ugh, she’s such a bitch.” Listen to this and we’ll see what you think.

It would be cool if you did one for Michelle, she’s been with the WWE for a long time too and she’s improved hugely since she got signed. Definitely a good rise to the top to document :)

  24. This was amazing. I was praying at the start that Melina would be the guest but I wasn’t sure due to the whole “Kelly being removed” interview earlier on. It was so nice to hear her talk, and she’s seriously the nicest person I’ve ever heard. I can’t believe that someone this nice and this sincere could play a character that was so good at being the polar opposite. Melina is such an amazing person, and this podcast was one that is my favorite moment at Diva-Dirt. Thank you ladies for doing this and thank you to Melina for getting to speak.

  25. I really enjoyed this podcast. It was great! :D

Melina has had such an interesting time in WWE so far and it will only continue to grow when she comes back. Her best matches were with Mickie, Beth, & Michelle. A fatal four way between those four Divas would be epic!

July will be Jillian’s 5 year anniversary & October will be Mickie’s 5 year anniversary as well. I hope you guys will do this kind of audio with those two Divas, even though Jillian hasn’t had the best career in WWE. She still deserves the respect.

Anyway, the ending was great! I was so happy to hear Melina at the end. She sounds super sweet. It’s awesome that you know her personally, Erin! Maybe she will come back as a heel by the way she said it at the end? Who knows! ;)

  26. Extreme Makeover. Cat Fight With Jillian. L.A Sunset. Primal Scream. MNM. Splits Entrance. I Quit Match. NOC Match. Paparazzi. Glamour.

Just a few words that come to mind when I think of Melina. She is amazing and what a treat for us to hear that interview. Thanks so much.

It’s turning out to be Diva-Dirt’s best week ever, shame there’s no Kristin and Friends to cap it all off, but Happy Hour is going to be awesome so thats fine! :D

  27. Great, great, great, great, great podcast! I love, love, love, love, LOOOOOVE Melina! I feel like this was a friggin present to ME! :D Haha. I can’t believe you actually had her on, I nearly had a heart attack!Lol, I hope WWE isn’t all bitchy and makes you remove it again :/

Anyways, you said to give some feedback, so here goes:

The good: Everything. The retrospective-Melina mini-interview is enough to excite any Melina fan!

The bad: You guys initially had us all tell some of our favorite Melina moments, and there was a MASSIVE response to that, but incredibly unfortunately, it wasn’t included. I think it would’ve been so much mroe amazing if you included some of our favortie Melina moments, because for one- The post wouldn’t have been for nothing XD

And two- It would’ve been a great thing for Melina, to be quite honest.

So yeah, I would’ve liekd to see that, and if you choose to do it in the future, that’d be awesome.

You guys should most definitely do more of these, I suggest Jillian to be the next, followed of course by Mickie.

  28. I hope Jillian and Mickie James get the same treatment when they hit 5 years soon. Beth too xxx

  29. Melina, Jillian Hall, and Mickie James have been with WWE since 2003 – (including their years in developmental)

  30. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LO VE LOVE MELINA! I GOT SO EXCITIED WHEN I HEARD HER VOICE!

Melina is the best , from starting out as a manager until now…look at her now an all around 4x Champion Baby! Thats right Melina has came so far and Im gonna stick by her side for anotehr 5yrs or more….

  31. This was truly amazing!! Love, love, love.

  32. This was a great idea. We rag on the Divas a lot, but its nice to take the time and appreciate the Divas and review them in a positive light. I would love to see this with more Divas down the line.

  33. TrishMelinaFan – Melina read those fan comments, so they did serve a purpose, in a sense. :P We decided to consolidate the podcast a bit for the sake of time and those got lost in the shuffle, sadly.

  34. omg 2 divas in a week :D congrats to Melina

  35. great audio, wish it was longer as melina answerd all the questions brilliantly, hope you do it again in the future with more questions such as, there favourite match, ring attire, finisher, move, opponenet , brand and other qucikfire questions to get a better understanding of their careers,

hopefully jillian is next but ovbiously somone like lita and trish’s career review would be amazing to

  36. Great show guys (: I really like this idea of celebrating the divas in this way. I am really interested in seeing you do this with other divas. Like Mickie and Jillian.

My favorite Melina moments has to be when she debuted with MNM and when she had that falls count anywhere match with Mickie James. I always lol when she pulls the towl off of Candice (:

  37. This was really cool to listen to. Melina your an amazing wrestler!!!
As for the Divadirt team, I think it would be so cool to see something about Chyna since May 20th will be 9 years since Chyna had her last match with WWF/WWE. I know that would be something cool to listen to.

  38. This was awesome so I really hope you guys continue doing these for the divas who are lucky to make it 5 years. I think Michelle and Mickie are next although McCool may have already passed 5 years [I don't count tough enough I'm talking debut in wwe].

It was really well stated although one point that should be noted is that Melina won her first women’s title from Mickie in a regular match not a Fall Count Anywhere match. She had her first title defense [Mickie's Rematch Clause] against Mickie in the Falls Count Anywhere Match.

I agree with Melina that her best and most memorable matches have been with Trish, Mickie, Beth, and Michelle. I hope she comes back and has some great matches with others such as Gail and Natalya!

Thanks again for the effort you put into this.

By the way it is Lita’s 35th Birthday! Represent!

  39. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS!! so inspiring… this is the reason why i want to get into the wrestling business!!
Melina is amazing, i have gained so much respect for her!!

also i just wanted to say your website is really cool! I feel the same way you do, i mean… the WWE divas division has really lost a lot of its importance, especiallly, ever since Trish, Lita and Victoria left…
I used to be so pumped up, and ecxited about the division, because of all the amazing talent the divas had, and because of the incredible matches they could put together…those women really inspired me, they were really showing they truly were smart, sexy and powerful.
Of course i still love some of the divas WWE has right now, like Melina, Mickie James, Beth Pheonix, Michelle Mccool…i just think they should have been given more time while out there, and also should be aloud to show all their real talent, and how athletic they can be, i loved the physical and more technical matches they used to have, and i so want to see that again!!!

Thank you so much for putting together this wonderful site and keep up the great work!!! Bye, and by the way, greetings from Portugal!!!

  40. GREAT podcast =]

but uhmm i was just wondering who is the current Diva in the WWE thats been there the longest?
    is it Melina or Mickie?
    or is it someone else?

    Melanie Reply:

    Luis — Michelle McCool.

  41. Melina is one of my favorite divas so this was a real treat to us. Thank so much Melanie & Erin!

B.T.W – Does this sound like the voice/attitude of someone who is ‘bitchy’? I think not! Melina is one of the sweetest, emotionally sensitive people I have ever seen. WE LOVE YOU MELINA & WE CAN’T WAIT FOR YOU TO COME BACK! Keep the memories coming!

  42. Wow it has been 5 years already! I remember the night she debuted…that split entrance was freaking amazing lol I had to try it afterwards. Erin && Melanie, It was such an awesome idea to do this podcast! You guys are genius =]
I really enjoyed listening to it and Melina is just a spectacular person. What I really loved about it was that you could hear the passion in her voice and you can hear && feel just how much she loves wrestling and that is inspiring for me because I’m going to wrestling school in the fall and I wish she was a trainer that would be epic! I don’t really have a favorite Melina moment because it’s so hard to choose from all of the great things that she’s done lol. It makes me really excited for her return =]

  43. sorry to rain on this parade, but i can’t stand melina as a person. as a performer, she’s great.

maria made it clear in her interview that she wasn’t keen on melina. candice michelle and ashley have also dropped clear hints in past interviews that they don’t like melina. despite erin’s opinion of her of being amazing, the three girls above can’t all be wrong. and having just seen what melina has written on twitter about maria, she sounds really nasty.

  44. having had 30 seconds to think about it, my comments above were probably too harsh! i must say though, that i’ve always found it impossible to warm to her. her heel character definitely played a part in that, but even as a face she’s never come across as a warm or kind person. that’s not to say she isn’t. still not a fan of her outside the ring though.

  45. thanks Melanie.

  46. Thank you so much Diva Dirt for conducting this great, great interview with Melina, I knew that Erin knew Melina personally for quite some time but to be doing an interview with her is really gracious on Melina’s part. :)

So the interview in my opinion was really showcasing a side that Melina really doesn’t show a lot in interviews she had done in the past, So its kind of surreal to see Melina talking like this as if she had retired(I know she is talking about her career but it felt really touched upon(not that its a bad thing ;).). So i am really glad Melina showed this side to her in this interview, I keep reading her tweets about how much she loves her fans & how she wants to put the best show as possible when she is performing which i take as really grateful but sometimes i think she was overdoing it, But after hearing the podcast, I could feel the sincerity in Melina’s voice that she was serious about that & she does take a lot into consideration about how she wants to make a great showcase for the fans every time she steps out of that curtain and wants to deliver the best that she can do.

It really shows that with these in-depth interviews that Wrestlers like Melina are not just people that go out there to act out a character that’s it.It shows how much this means to them and how much they respect the business and how far they are willing to go for it. I have always seen Melina as just another veteran Diva that the WWE currently has who is just there to do her job & could care less about the majority of the fans. But after this podcast, It opened my eyes about her & how much of a sweet person she really is, I didn’t think she was a B**tch but just a little reserved, But this just shows how nice of a person she is in real life & how much she appreciates the fans.

Again thank you Diva-Dirt for this podcast on Melina’s career & interview, I really hope you girls do more stuff like this in the near future because all of the Interviews you had with former Divas, developmental & indie Wrestlers really showcases another side of the Performers life that fans rarely know of, They make you see them as another person than what you used to thinking of them. Again thank you so much for this Diva-Dirt. :)

  47. This was so great and such a great idea. I really hope to see one of Jillian on the 28th of July and one for Mickie on the 10th of October that would be amazing.

Also you mentioned the battle royal Melina won in 2005 and it wasn’t a #1 contender battle royal I am sure it was the Eddie Guerrero Tribute in which she eliminated Trish last to win the match. I’m sure you just forgot that lol xD

  48. i’ve now listed to the audio and thought that the whole concept of the show was perfect. the structure too. i’d love to see you guys do more of these in the future. and getting a current wwe diva on board was a huge coup…. congrats. the site is really going from strength to strength and you should be very proud of your hard work!

melina came across on the audio as a bit intense and so passionate about wrestling. i must admit, it is great to see that someone has as much passion for wrestling as she does because i don’t think it’s necessarily the case with every employee on the wwe roster.

    thanks again for the show.
    :)

  49. mr_socko- Not everyone can get along. Just because three former divas weren’t too keen on Melina doesn’t make her a mean, nasty person. Could be quite possible that those divas weren’t the nicest people backstage either.

  50. Melina is by far my favorite wrestler!!! Everything she does is amazing!!! Whether she is a heel or a face doesn’t matter because she’s great at what she does!!! It’s so cool how Melina is so appreciative of her fans!!! Thank-You, Diva Dirt this interview was so awesome!!!
