Welcome to the third annual edition of our Diva Draft feature here at Diva Dirt! If you haven’t been with us over the last couple of years, the premise is simple — each year, I make six predictions/suggestions over six consecutive days in the lead up to the WWE Draft which this year falls on Monday, April 26th. In previous years, I have successfully managed to predict some of the movies; in 2008, I predicted both draft picks and in 2009, four of my six predictions came true with a fifth later being realised in the Diva Trade of October 2009. So, let’s hope this year will be just as fruitful. Check back for all six of my picks over the coming week!
Note: Due to Katie Lea’s release, this year’s Diva Draft has been cut down to just five predictions/suggestions as Katie was one of my six original picks.
Welcome to this year’s wildcard pick! For those of you who haven’t followed the Diva Draft feature in previous years, each year I make one pick that I think is slightly more out there and perhaps not likely to happen. Usually, this ‘honour’ [if you can call it that] goes to one of the newer girls who are still trying to establish themselves. And the best part? Each year, my wildcard pick has come true. In 2008, I predicted that Layla, who was on ECW at the time, would move to Raw — she did. And last year, I predicted that The Bella Twins would make an unlikely move to Raw also — they did. This year, I feel that Rosa Mendes could/should find her way onto the blue brand and here’s why…
Quite frankly, every brand needs a jobber. Sure, it’s not a glamorous position to be in, but not everyone can be the top Diva in a title feud. Often times, being in the role of ‘jobber girl’ can help a wrestler develop and get better and better — just look at Layla. In the past year on SmackDown, losing matches to the likes of Melina, Mickie James and Beth Phoenix, Layla has grown as a performer to the point where she has become a consistently great worker herself. Layla has managed to hone her craft and is now bubbling under as a potential top Diva. Having paid her dues now, it’s high time that Layla was given a more prominent role — enter Rosa to take her old spot.
With Jillian having the jobbing market cornered on Raw, moving Rosa to SmackDown would put her in that ‘lesser role’ which would be a great way for her to wrestle more and hone her skills against girls like Beth Phoenix or well, I would have said Mickie James, but that’s not the case anymore. There’s also opportunities to work with and learn from Layla, Michelle, Natalya and Serena. I think this could be a beneficial opportunity for Rosa to up her game in the ring. Who knows, with time, she could even reach the level of Layla. Travelling on the road and working house shows with these Divas is just what Rosa needs, meanwhile on TV she could be used to lose to the likes of Beth and company.
Is it the ideal job? Obviously not. But it’s a step up from being lost in the shuffle as she currently is. Rosa takes breathtaking photoshoots and seems to have some character just waiting to come out, judging by her time as the Glamazon’s understudy — SmackDown could be what she needs to become more well rounded.

Agreed. Zack Ryder might as well become a full-time WWE Superstars roster member, so I can definitely see him moving to Smackdown – or future endevours – so I guess Rosa will follow. She’s beautiful, and I can see her being a great Layla-substitute.
I’ve agreed with all of your picks so far (Michelle to Raw, Gail to SD).
I think moving Rosa to smackdown would be a good idea. No matter where Zack Ryder goes, I am sure Rosa will follow. It is better if they mix it up. They can’t have all the stronger diva’s on one brand and the weaker diva’s on the other.
When I first read Rosa to Smackdown, I instantly went eww, Having the actual worst wrestler on the dominant brand? Nah. But after reading your thoughts, you make a very valid point, that I agree with – to an extent – The thing about Layla is, since late 07, when she started wrestling she was always so-so, didn’t really botch, there was just nothing great about her, However Rosa is a different story she’s a mess!
I say start her off wrestling at Houseshows though to a decent level before she wrestles on TV.
Also with Mickie being released I am looking forward to Gail on Smackdown, Which I presume is pretty accurate seeing as they only have 2 faces at the moment, and Tiffany doesn’t have that star-power yet so it’s more like 1 1/2.

In an ideal world, I’d like to see A.Fox to move to Smackdown, where she gets a heavy push – her and Beth could put on a great match I reckon, seeing how well she took that Glam-Slam at Mania. I’d also like a heel Melina on Smackdown <3

I agree with Christina. I know its kinda bad to wish someone to be unemployed, but since she’s probably a low payed Diva, she would probably make more money in other areas, such as modeling.
I would prefer that Katie or Mickie had stayed. Rosa is, in my opinion the more worthless Diva on the WWE. Her wrestling skills are poor and she doesn’t get any reaction from the crowd. Her acting skills are kinda blah to. People talk about the Bellas, but I like them. They aren’t bad wrestlers, actually they are rather okey and they connect with the crowd. I love the “twins” battle strategy. Always had. And they are the ones who do it the best. Even more than the Bashams, who didn’t pulled of this act because they weren’t similar to each other.
Jillian is a good worker and her gimmick brings a lot of heat from the crowd. Tiffany is a good wrestler. Maryse for whatever reason I don’t understand has a large fanbase. Kelly is probably the Diva with most reaction and she, like the Bellas, isn’t has bad as everyone says she is, even though she still needs a lot of improvement. Eve and Alicia are still green, but they can be good to. Layla improved has hell and she has great mic skills. Michelle, Beth, Melina, Gail, Natalya and Serena are great, even though the last three ones don’t get the opportunities they deserve. Even Savannah, who is only used as a announcer is more worthy and useful than Rosa, since she is a good wrestler. But hey, this is my opinion.
I’m not a Rosa hater. I just think that compared to women who have been released are way better than her. And wrestling, to me, isn’t Rosa’s, or Milena’s if you wish, playground. She is BEAUTIFUL, and I’m sure she could find great opportunities outside wrestling.
xxChristinaxx, couldn’t agree more. Rosa already had the jobber role with Jillian in her previous stint with Raw, and she didn’t really develop her in-ring abilities at all even though she worked with the likes of Mickie James. I say bring a girl from FCW up, maybe Aj Lee cause Smackdown could do with a fresh face.
WHY wasn’t she released?
People are so rude wishing others to be released, Rosa has had 2 singles matches on tv and only a handful of tag matches. She has only been on the main roster for a year and a half. She is beautiful and no worse than fricken maryse who just kicks and slaps.
I haven’t really thought about where Rosa would go, i was hoping she would get drafted back to FCW or just get drafted out.
I guess smackdown would be the better place for her, I have seen some fcw stuff she has done and she not half as bad as she is when i’ve watched her live on raw. The fact that smackdown is taped may be better for her.
I don’t know…….my perdictions are a lot diffrent to yours, you perdict Michelle will loose the title this sunday and move to raw, where as i see he heeping it and taking it to raw, while eve moves the divas title to smackdown.
With the wrestlers i have perdicted being in raw, i think Rosa would be better to stay there if where talking about experience.

whether she moves or not, i just hope she gets to be used more in an wrestling role. there’s just something about her i like.. even if she is at current a bit crap in the ring.
Rosa stinks in the WWE but she is only been there for 2 years but there is no excuse because her and alicia went everywhere together first OVW, Then FCW and Now WWE she just doesnt have much potential in wrestling and is just there to loook pretty while alicia on the other hand is someone i hope to take the title from Eve Like In A Month or So.
I think Rosa should be a valet and only a valet.
They cannot release someone like Katie who is one of the best female wrestlers around right now, and have Rosa in a wrestling spot and be able to justify it.

Rosa would be the perfect heel jobber on the blue brand. While, unfortunately, Jillian will probably continue to be the heel jobber on Raw – if she’s not moved to SD.

I’m like so lost, what are they doing with her? She’s clearly not a great wrestler, but I reckon she has a lotta confidence and personality on the mic. For some reason though, she doesn’t connect with the crowd, I don’t know why since I think she’s one of the most beautiful and exotic divas they have. I wonder how she’s gonna keep up with the others..

Shes my fave and I agree with this pick. She has been on RAW/Superstars since being called up and only involved in quick tag matches/battle royals and maybe 2 singles matches. A SD! move could really benefit her in getting experience and maybe a match more then 2 minutes long.
Didn’t any of you read Melina’s recent blog? Rosa is the girl ready to learn and take any bump, anytime, from anyone.. so give her a break!
It’s not hate. If Rosa was getting hate then she’d be a good heel. It’s more annoyance that she is on our TV screens while girls like Katie-Lea are being released.
Lets face it, there are 2 reasons for Vince to hire Diva’s.
1. They can wrestle well
or
2. They are really good looking (albeit plastic and fake) women
Rosa really doesn’t fit into either category. I’m really suprised they kept her and released some of the better Divas.
I can see this happening, I’m not too fond of it because I actually love SD and she isn’t that great of a wrestler, but it’s possible.
Ryder hasn’t been on RAW lately nor is he on nearly as he was on ECW, so I doubt they will keep the whole couple duo going.
Rosa sure needs a new character or something, she just does not stick out to me in any way. All her moves are boring and non effective, and clearly she needs more training.

WWE is like any other company and about saving money. If you’re “surprised” they let go Mickie, go back to school! She would have been the highest paying diva on the roster and they didn’t want to invest in her anymore.
Actually no Randy, I would say I’m better looking than Rosa Mendez. And thats the problem. I’m an average/above average looking girl, and I’m better looking than someone that they hired purely for people to look at. She’s got big fake boobs and fake bits that guys would like, but facially and everything, she really isn’t very striking.
And no, I’m not surprised they let go of Mickie, and I think you’ll find they let her go because of disciplinary reasons rather than financial ones.
I was talking about Katie Lea, who is a far superior athlete, wrestler and a better looking more natural woman than Rosa Mendez.
I know you have a crush and all but you cannot tell me the girl is a good wrestler, because she clearly isn’t.
Nope, no crush, I’m gay!! But I can spot a hotty when I see one, male or female.
I’m not denying Katie Lea wasn’t a good wrestler, but Rosa has much more charisma. And that’s something you can’t teach. Her wrestling isn’t the best thats for sure, but its called World Wrestling Entertainment and she is VERY entertaining! She’s on RAW for goodness sakes, and none of the girls on that show have been able to show what they can really do.
She’s also won “Piel Dorada”, the biggest modeling contest in Latin America, and has been the only North American to ever do so.
Anyway, doesn’t matta what you say, Rosa is here to stay :) :)
Yeah, Rosa shoulda been pink slipped a long time ago. She’s horrible in the ring and gets zero reaction from the crowd.

Actually in all fairness, I didn’t watch ECW much. Personally I haven’t seen so much of her that I liked, but I am sure you are right, they wouldn’t hire her if she didn’t have something a bit more.
Personally, I’m an aspiring wrestler, and I just hate the model/popstar culture (fake tans, fake boobs etc etc) which WWE has gotten into so I’m perhaps overly harsh.
If she gets a move then perhaps she will be able to shine more on Smackdown. It’s a much more DIVA orientated show :-)

I agree they have too many models, I hope they sign Kong (after JR mentioned he met and talked with her maybe it’s not that far fetched??) and would love to see something different like the Sherri Martel/Luna days.
rosa is goodlooking but other then that i think their are 2 reasons she not that good
1 ring confidence i dont think she has it & with 20,000 people nerves get her..
2 writing team her moves are soooo lame but wwe has her as a learner/fan who wants too wrestle,the writers aint gonna have her bust out the moves shes learnt no cause they dont want divas being better then the men,the last part goes for all divas…
but i think what else can u give her to do then valet really i just dont think she fits anywhere besides standing at ring-side & the occasional slap/choke & thats it…
oh & of course shes not gonna be popular i mean her theme music is just sooo awful like eves as well & some other divas their themes dont make u wanna cheer them…
