Before this Sunday’s big Women’s Championship bout between Michelle McCool and Beth Phoenix, McCool and her Simply Flawless teammates literally ironed out the details for the match on SmackDown this week. Also, who knew that this would end up being Mickie James’ final appearance on WWE television? It’s a very interesting week for the blue brand. Watch below:
First comes the announcement of an ‘Extreme Makeover’ match between Michelle and Beth for this Sunday. What is an ‘Extreme Makeover’ match? Beats me. But I guess we’ll find out Sunday. Just as long as there’s no vanity mirror with light bulbs around it and the Divas aren’t forced to dress in feathered robes like this, I’m good.
So after months of waiting for this tag team match, it’s finally here — Beth and Mickie James versus Michelle and Layla with Vickie on the outside. It seems like this match itself has been months in the making, let alone the Women’s Championship bout. I was really looking forward to seeing a relationship develop between Phoenix and James so it’s weird to think this will be their one and only appearance together as a team.
The match begins with Layla and Phoenix, Layla smartly runs around Beth and applies a side headlock on the Glamazon but is then hoisted in the air and twirled around by the forceful #1 Contender. Layla begins to find her ground, reapplying the headlock but is picked up again and dropped by Beth Phoenix. Beth runs at Layla, who kicks her in the leg, followed by a kick. Layla then irish whips herself off the ropes, as McCool blind tags herself in, and runs at Beth who catches her by the legs. Layla is locked into a giant swing by Beth but in comes Michelle who for some reason, jumps over Layla and then gets hit with a back elbow by Beth. Not even sure what’s going on here. Beth then picks up Layla in a lateral press position, hoisting her above her head but is kicked in the back of the leg by Michelle and ends up falling to her knees. McCool then works over the leg and goes for a pin but to no avail.
Michelle then continues to work over Beth’s leg before tagging out to Layla. Layla also begins working over the leg, stretching it over the bottom rope, applying pressure. She then distracts the referee while from the outside, Michelle begins choking Beth with her foot. Layla drags Beth to the center of the ring, and applies a leglock but is kicked away by Beth. She then throws Layla into the corner and tags out to Mickie who hits a shoulder block on Layla and then slides into the ring under the bottom rope. Mickie hits some clotheslines on Layla, knocks Michelle off the apron but is then caught with a kick by Layla. Mickie manages to reverse an irish whip attempt into a neckbreaker. Mickie signals to the crowd that she is going up top, to a big pop, and hits a Thesz Press on Layla. She goes for a cover but it’s broken up by Michelle who kicks her in the head.
Beth now gets involved, attacking Michelle from behind and the two end up outside the ring. In the ring meanwhile, Layla hits her Layout on Mickie for a surprising win. Layla herself is shocked afterwards that she either A) actually won a match or B) pinned the five time Women’s Champion.
After the match, Beth Phoenix gets in the ring and sets her eyes on Layla but from behind, Michelle chop-blocks her bad leg and takes her down. Lay-Cool now work over Beth as Layla goes to the outside to get an ironing board of all things. Why the hell is there an ironing board under the ring?! Layla props it up in the corner and they both irish whip Beth into the ironing board, back first, in a pretty sick move. Beth however, manages to slowly get back on her feet but is met with a huge big boot from McCool. Vickie then gets into the ring, handing them both lipsticks, as they smear it all over Beth’s face adding further insult to injury. I don’t know about you, but Beth looked severely sunburnt to me — I don’t know if that’s the look they were going for.
The match was decent as well with McCool and Layla isolating Beth’s leg. It’s crazy to think that this was Mickie’s last match, you could hear the pops when she was tagged in and went up to the turnbuckle — how do you just release your most over Diva? It baffles me.
I have to wonder if WWE knew on Tuesday that they’d be releasing Mickie this week, because I was extremely surprised to see her lose clean to Layla who seemingly loses all the time unless Michelle picks up the win in tag matches. It’s a nice rub for Layla but extremely surprising nonetheless. I do think they knew they would be releasing Mickie at the time, it’s a hell of a coincidence.
In all, it was a strong build to Sunday’s match even if it came at the last minute. I thought the post-match beatdown was incredibly effective and made you look forward to the PPV to see if Beth can get her revenge. Great stuff. Considering that this supposedly got terrible reviews in the spoilers, I guess they did a decent editing job to make it look good — it came across great to me.

It was a good match, Mickie sold Layla’s neck breaker really well! I wonder what we will see at Extreme Rules.. whatever it is, i just hope we’re glued to our screens…. for once.
It was hard to watch this match knowing that this would be Mickie James last match. But I am not going to get into that :/
The match was good. I honestly expected it to be a disaster. But it wasn’t. It was a pretty good build up to Sunday’s match. I am interested to see what exactly will happen in this kind of match. But we will see.
The match was boring and the fans seem like they couldn’t care less. But I love how Mickie sold Lalya neckbreaker.
Also, Matt Striker is so freaking funny.
I hope it mean something for Layla that she pinned Mickie.

Michelle Mccool looked like a sexy clown with that dark bound make up and for what it’s worth as i previously stated im sorry for ms.James release but a silver lining is a foot and i see this as a perfect oportunity to give Natalya Mickie’s spot since Natalya is slowly going face or even give Tiffany a chance to shine more.
and Congrats to Ms.El first she pinned Melina in a 6 diva tag now Mickie James in her last match

Melanie I’m not sure this is the first time this match took place, I’m sure the week after the royal rumble we had this match with Michelle being pinned if I can remember correctly.
As for the match, I was worried because of how the spoilers described it as a mess, but I really enjoyed it. It was so weird thinking this is Mickies last match, really saddened by that. But I guess things move on, and with Beth Vs Michelle on sunday, I think they are starting life without Mickie pretty well.
Awww, I wanted the crowd to chant ‘You can’t find it!’, I would have lol’d to see that. xP Nonetheless nice sweet little tag match, great hype for PPV this sunday, will Beth get her revenge? Well If McCool will end up going to Raw then I hope so. =P
Shame this was Mickie’s last match in WWE … FOR NOW! But you never know, she could do a Gail Kim and possibly return to WWE in a few years time, and whats stopping her? Gail is 33 where Mickie is 30, Layla might be the same age as Mickie or a bit over even! I say the time you stop wrestling is when you can’t physcically do it anymore, and Mickie has a lot more fight in her to do the thing she loves to do, and thats wrestle. She should have a bit of aa break though, get a nice stress free 3 months and then do whatever after that. =P

The stupid thing about SD! (and is the only thing I have to point) is that they do the same matches over and over again. They need more Divas, while RAW has to many (especially considering that they only get 1 minute, which means they don’t need so many girls).

This match was great on TV, who cares if they screwed it live. I’m scared of the draft now, that was a fricking high profile match, 3 divas with 11 championships between them. I heard somewhere that they’re revamping the women’s division centered around Eve, notice the new promo shots. I think now if Michelle loses the title to Beth she is fairly likely to head to Raw and Maryse will come to Smackdown.Though I think they could also shock us all, split Laycool up and send Layla to Raw.. imagine that… Layla as number one heel on the red brand.
The news update on F4WOnline.com today says the Extreme Makeover match means a no-DQ match with, for lack of a better term, girl things as weapons. Clothes, make up, etc. Basically, a hardcore/comedy match.
I’m going to make a bold prediction and say Vickie Guerrero will get a bunch of crap dumped onto her during the segment.
that was a great match, but for Mickie’s last match it sure as hell could’ve been better :/ Something akin’ to Victoria’s last match perhaps? (Which by the way, was awesome).
I love the fact that Layla got the win, but not the fact she got the win on Mickie in her last friggin’ match :/ It’s so plainly obvious WWE set it up that way it hurts!
Michelle looked a hot mess in this match, especially with that bright red lipstick, and I wasn’t feeling Beth’s new hairdo’. The post-match beatdown was magnificent, and it’s obvious the newer Divas have taken note of the past Divas, because Trish threw Victoria into an ironing board back in 02′ where Vicky became champ. Haha :)
The only thing I didn’t like. for obvious reasons, was the dead crowd! If this was last week’s crowd they’d damn near be going crazy!

Really? I don’t really remember it, but a lot of fans online were complaining at the lack of crowd noise on both the Raw and Smackdown shows in England last week.
I think it would be awesome for Layla to really start bragging about how she retired Mickie James (since Lay did hit a “nasty” neckbreaker and threw her out of the ring, making her land funny, the writing crew could claim that due to the spinal and leg injuries suffered, Mickie had to go) and that be the impetus for the break up of Laycool. Make some lemonade of the lemons WWE has given fans (Mickie and Katie getting the axe).
If Layla acts like that just because she finally pinned someone this year, can you imagine her reaction to winning a title?
The match was what it was. I do love that they are booking Layla as a stronger wrestler. Not because she finally uses a finisher and pins someone this year, but her actions. Sure, she still knows dang well Beth is stronger than her, but she also knows she’s so close to beating Beth. Just look at her in the beginning of this match compared to the first and the other times she’s faced off against Beth. Layla wasn’t scared to run at her and Layla kept running almost everytime Layla got knocked out.

Layla is great.
To me she is the Miz/Morrison of the Diva Search. She’s moved on, come on strong, didn’t get the opportunites someone like Eve has got but is actually a lot lot better for it.
She’s doing it the hard way and looking good.
My predictions:
1. (not me) but Diva Dirt Steve finally gets to see beth win a title from the stands on Sunday.
2. For once no diva titles jump shows at the draft- beth & eve stay put
3. It’s the 20th anniversary of Twin Peaks and you want to rewatch it again
(for our younger readers- it was lost & x-files before lost & x files-some say better)
and there’s a girl on a boys wrestling team storyline in season 2
4. gail kim will realize that there are things more important than money and will not resign with vince. I predict she gets back to tna as soon as all no compete clauses expire.
5. Smackdown on syfy will get less viewers than Impact on Mondays
6. By this time next year tiffany will have more heat than layla, eve & tennis shoes kelly combined.
I’m a real Layla mark these days, I wanna see her go far.
So this is it, Mickie’s last match, getting pinned by Layla. I can’t believe her career ended like this. It’s a damn shame. The match although was good, but the crowd killed it by being so dead!
@ daemonicwanderer317 – That would be a good way for WWE to “write” Mickie off of TV, but once someone is released, WWE usually doesn’t mention them anymore. They act like that person never existed. So I doubt WWE would do that.
I still have a strong gut feeling that once Mickie’s ablum is released, and after several months (or maybe even a year) have passed, WWE is going to want to resign Mickie back to a contract. This will give time for any heat Mickie had backstage to cool down while Mickie can focus on releasing her album. Around September, after her album dies out and her 90-day no compete clause is up, WWE is going to want her back – that’s if, she doesn’t sign with TNA. Which I doubt she will.
i think it was a good match, it wasn’t the match that was the problem tho, it was that Layla couldn’t find the ironing board, because it hadn’t been put under the ring

It was a decent match. Love the Lay-Out, hate Striker on commentary. Gah he’s annoying, it really makes me miss J.R.
Sad that this was Mickie’s last match. :’( I would have liked to see her go out against the winner of Sunday’s match in a Title vs Career at the next Pay Per View. That would have been a better send off for Mickie James. I’ll miss seeing her compete, especially against Michelle, Melina and Beth.
Farewell Ms. James you will be mised.

I do sincerely hope Mickie does come back, but I’ve gotten my hopes up in the past, only to have them destroyed (I’m looking at you Trish!). Imagine the shock value if Mickie returns looking better than ever, I know I would go crazy. If she did come back, I would definitely want her to equal or surpass Trish’s reigns, but only if she isn’t sloppy and has the same passion she once had. A break could do her good.
It’s terrible to see Mickie James go out, atleast see her get Michelle one more time after the torment she’d been put through. My heart sank when Mickie James had been released and it makes me anger and nervous to know that any diva could go at any moment, for any reason what so ever. I dont want too feel like that, I want to watch each week thinking wow.. not, shit – hope she does not go this week she is so good. WWE, use your brains.. get rid of the Bella Twins. Anyhoo. Well done Layla, fantastic work in this match, and I cant wait for Sunday.

I thought the match was good but sad since it was Mickie’s last. I loved that Layla was so excited because she pinned Mickie. I liked the Layout but I don’t think it should be a finisher. Michelle’s Big Boot is just Flawless. It always looks nice. Beth spinning Layla around was really funny. I just hope the match is really good Sunday.

even though i love team lay-cool especially the lay of it im still very saddened by mickies release and how she was sent off but anywho its way better on tv than in the spoilers for shure and we might actually get a kick out of this match at Extreme Rules. and congrats to layla if they break up lay-cool they may need a good feud or let Layla go to raw and feud with Eve for the divas title or send them both to raw and cause some hell there. but im really looking forward to lay being a top heel on raw with a title cuz she’s earned it far past eve in my opinion.

I don’t know if the crowd isn’t into her as a face or isn’t into Michelle and Layla as heels, but the complete no-sell of the angle by the crowd really stood out to me as Beth getting beat down like that should be considered a big deal.
This better mean Beth is winning Sunday. I like Michelle and all, but she’s had the belt way too long, while relinquishing it way too short. Of course, Michelle could easily get drafted to Raw and keep the Divas belt forever and eternity. I want to see a believable top face champ, which Beth is and Eve isn’t.

The match was pretty decent, It showed a lot of aggression in all 4 girls, Layla winning the match for her team was really awesome to see, I just wished it wasn’t on Mickie’s last match :(. Overall the match was pretty good & a nice follow-up from Last weeks Great bout between Mickie & Michelle. I really hope Mickie does indeed get to be signed again by the WWE when her whole album thing cools down a little, I’m so excited for Extreme Rules as Michelle vs Beth is a dream math for many, Hopefully Beth does win the title this Sunday. :D
Nice match this week. I thought, judging by the spoilers, that Beth was sent head first into the Ironing Boaard, yet she still sold it great. I loved the Lipstick thing at the end aswell and Michelle’s kick, wow, I bloody love it!
Oh and onto Matt Striker, I agree that is completely annoying. He’s good in some ways with his descriptive presentations of the superstars, but when he shouts daft things like OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, that really annoys me!
I think some of you guys failed to see the point of the beatdown segment. That was literally an ‘Extreme Makeover’. Now I was afraid before I saw the segment that the match would end up having Beth and McCool throwing make-up at each other or stuff like that, but if that ironing board was anything much of a hint, I think we have ourselves an Extreme Rules match – with make-up! Probably the most brutal kind of match the Divas are limited into these days… but that doesn’t make me any less grateful that we’re not getting another Hog Pen Match.
Oh, and who was that that said he/she hated Matt Striker? He may be annoying, but he damn sure is brilliant… :D

at 5:38 Layla was going to take out Mickie James of the ring on the second rope, but then she takes her out by the first rope xd
for what i see i´m the only that i didn´t like the ending….sure that Laycool would have to get the upperhand,the advantage sometime,but seeing Beth being beated like that,in such an easy way,for a Diva that was/is portrayed as dominant,even after her face turn…it sounded crappy to me.
i´m expecting Beth to win the title on sunday but with Vickie and Layla outside it will be mostly a 3 on 1 fight,and that will be maybe too much for Beth.
